I do not see how much time is left on my battery, It just shows the percentage...

I just bought the laptop 2 weeks back
I have a Inspiron 15 (3521, Late 2012) and my battery has failed 7 days after the warranty was up-Murphy's Law.
I keep my laptop plugged in all the time and therefore do not run it off the battery.
I don't see how the battery could fail, when I don't run (use it) the computer from it, especially after only 1 years usage?
We have some older hp zd8000 laptops, where the battery stopped charging at one point.. granted, they were pretty old, but in one case, we ordered a replacement battery, its been "ok".. in another, the replacement stopped working (stopped charging or holding a charge) after 3 months..
Now i'm about to get a new hp dv7t.. I'm wondering if i should avoid leaving it plugged in (and charging) all the time, or has the tech changed so that this wont hurt the unit..
I own an HP Pavilion dv6000.
I am constantly losing my time and sometimes date. I have checked that I have selected the correct time zone many times. The clock always jumps backwards, not forward and it is never a set amount of time. However it is usually between 30-45 minutes back. Very rarely the date will randomly jump back several years. I'm not sure what the problem is.
Some friends have told me it could be:
1)Virus or such, but i have done several scans already.
2) Dying CMOS battery
3) Or something about BIOS time being off, I'm not sure what it meant.
I guess if it is the CMOS battery, is there anything i should know before replacing it (like saving some settings or something?) or can i just unscrew the back of my laptop pop out the battery and pop in a new one?
to get the windows battery indicator to show the time remaining in Windows 7? It seems like an HP issue but its worth a shot

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a dv4-1275mx special edition, and would like to calibrate the battery. The battery is suppose to last up to 6 hours (I'm expecting about 4-4.5). Does it screw up the calibration if I am using it while letting the battery run down. I have the screen turn off disabled and the sleep disabled, but I am using a screen saver.

If i plug adapter in like Iam charging it (not turning power on ) the light in front lights up just briefly then nothing. I also can't power laptop on. If i run the adapter with no battery in laptop everything works fine. What causes that? Just a bad battery? motherboard is new and so is the cord.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Compaq 2230S business laptop, but this question could be put to any HP laptop. The fan is constantly running when the laptop is plugged into the power outlet, but as soon as I pull the plug to run on battery power the fan powers down and stops. I re-plug the laptop back in and the fan kicks up again.
This is not good as I almost burned myself when I picked up the laptop after an hour sitting on the table on battery power. The hard drive is right beside the processor, so the laptop gets really hot.
Vista x64 Ultimate is what I'm using at the moment and my power scheme calls for 1% minimum and 100% maximum CPU on battery power.
I updated the bios which fixed other issues. I updated the drivers and did all the win7 updates to rule any of that out. When teh laptop gets down to 18% it just powers off instantly. It does not go through a normal shutdown process or hibernate. I can power it back on and it shows 18% battery left. Is the battery going bad? I dont think this machine is barely a year old yet. I have no problems on wall power. Could it be a Win7 power setting? Just surprised win7 would slam the power off like that.

HP tech is trying to help my by telling me to test the battery life and resetting the bios, however this laptop is only 2 months old and I had the problem since the begining.

I have an HP DV6560 and I have a problem with my battery. She discharge when the laptop is shutdown (no stanby).
All drivers are installed and updated.. bios, chipset, etc..
For information when the laptop is shutdown no alimentation is activ, I have tryed with un mouse USB.
Juste again, the battery discharge only when is plugged in the laptop. But when is plugged off, the battery no discharging.
Maybe is the remote control option who discharge ma battery when my laptop is shutdown, but I don't disabled this option in the BIOS..
My mother was having some trouble with her laptop, and I was wondering if you guys had an idea of what the problem could be. Basically, it won't turn on, even with the battery plugged into the wall. It is completely unresponsive. The last time she used it was last night, and she said that when she was done, she left it on with the screen down and the battery plugged in.

I just came across a free app (actually a Vista toolbar) that does its own estimate of battery time remaining, based on its monitoring of the power dropping as the battery is used. It works GREAT on my FZ190 and should work on ANY machine that does not natively support this feature.
I did a search on here and and google and I came to the conclusion that if you dont know the specs of the computer you can't "accurately" guess the life of the battery so I'm hoping you guys can give me an estimate with my computer specs.
I'll post the things I think would matter most with the battery life.

Two questions:
1) Is it normal for the battery to take several hours, i.e. 4+, to fully charge after being mostly depleted? For example, my battery says it's like 95% charged, yet has 40 minutes to go.
2) Is it normal for the battery time-left indicator to jump all over? When I run it on battery, the amount of time remaining constantly changes. It goes from 5 hours to 3 hours to 4 hours, etc, etc.
The first time I ever used the computer when I got it in December I charged it up fully, kept it plugged in for several hours, then let it completely die out overnight and fully charged it again.
My laptop is Dell ultrabook XPS 13. I've been used it for about 6 months. I don't know when it started to be like this but I've just noticed recently that the battery shown on desktop is never full charged even when it's plugged in for long hours. Last week it's at 41-42% at maximum but now it never reached more than 39% and it seems to be less and less even though I keep it plugged in every time I use it. I'm worried there's something wrong with battery but it said my battery is still fine, but obviously it's not fine.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just bought this and when i first got it it said 5 to 6 hrs remaining but now it shows 2 or 3 hrs after a full charge (it says up to 7 hrs on website). I have updated the BIOS and drivers which worked for a while but its back to 2-3 hrs again. In the BIOS it says the battery is running normally.

Anyone got any words on how to use it as an external harddrive freely? By the way, I use it on my Windows 7.

Hence, I am going to ask 2 basic questions but I have not been able to find precise answers to them:
1. what's the impact on battery life of having a 7200rpm HD in the new 17" MBP? Will I still have my around 7hrs of juice?
2. what's the impact on boot time? I have just tested the 5400rpm version, and I didn't find it exceedingly quick, i.e. it took him around 47 seconds to boot. Would the 7200rpm decrease this?
One possibility would be to buy the standard version, and then, in a few months, upgrade with a 256 Go SSD...
Recently my battery 'time remaining' meter have been showing outrageous time left (e.g. 55 hr 35mins). I have looked on the internet for solutions but I couldn't find any.

I bought laptop in January 2013 and its started giving this kind of error.
When i am using it continuously its working fine , when i go away from system(kept ideal for sometime) it gets shutdown.
so i need to re-login and it closes all the application which i was using before shutdown.
I already did some initial checks like Scaning entire system for virus(i hardly have any data on system) and
Dell online PC Check which passes all the test.
The battery light on my XPS is blinking all the time (orange 4 times, white 1 time).
I have updated BIOS, run PSA Diagnostics and Dell PC Diagnostics and nothing appears to be bad. But the problem is still here.
My electricity power went out and I wad working on battery and when the power came back I was connecting the adapter but the battery led started to flash 4 times orange and 1 times white.

where my laptop would shutdown randomly and give me a real time clock error. I googled around and found that replacing the cmos battery would fix the problem. I tried it out but still i am getting this problem.
