I just wanted to ask that can I use my laptop when it is charging i.e. connected to AC mains? Some people say that doing so reduces the battery life. Whenever u have to use it on main line, remove the battery and then use. But its too cumbersome 4 me coz most of the times, I use it at home where ac line is available.

I have window 8 the laptop is 8 months old and yesterday 14/12/14 my battery stop charging from main supply to laptop battery, I am unsure why because the power to battery fine as working to supply the laptop, but don't have second battery check if battery issue, I have noticed that been recall in power supplies but that fine because not part the recall.
My laptop is at 4% battery and says pluggred in not charging. I have a HP Envy with windows 8.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop that I have been using for a year now. I was working perfectly fine until today when I saw that the laptop has stopped charging the battery after 48%.
I checked the battery power options and nothings seems amiss.
I ran the dell diagnostics on the battery and it shows that the battery is fine.
I keep on trying to switch it on but the power button doesn't work but it shows only the single blue light that indicates its charging each time i plug it. I really don't know what could be wrong but its really sad because i have lots of important things on that PC,.....

My AC power adapter has a small led light on it, and it is green. Before this, my laptop used to get very very hot, to the point that I could not even put it on my lap for too long. I would also sometimes put it on my bed where there is fabric. Also, there is a break on the AC adapter at the very top near where it gets plugged in. I also ran a diagnostic test and it gave me back a code, 2000-0142 .....
Also, my laptop is significantly slower and I am using an Inspiron 1521
Last Friday i received my new Studio 1749 with i3. As told by the documentation I put in the battery, put the power cable in the ac-adapter, pluged the AC-cable into the laptop and then pluged the ac-adapter into the wall outlet. I booted the laptop and once I was on the windows desktop had a look at the battery symbol. It showed that the laptop was connected to external power and that the battery was being charged.
I wen't away from the laptop to let it charge the battery for 12 hours as told by the documentation. After two hours i came back to have a look at the laptop and it was off. Curious I turned it on again. After booting up it showed the battery at 60% and the laptop running from battery. Yet the ac-adapter was connected to the laptop. I hadn't changed anything. I pluged the adapter cable in and out, but it wouldn't recognize that the was external power available. Turning the laptop off an on again didn't work either.
Now I feared for the battery. My guess is that at one point it started to run on battery power even though it was not charged for 12 hours. Then when the battery was depleted the laptop shut down. This might have permanently damaged the battery!
I guess as soon as the laptop was off the ac-adapter charged the battery again, and when I came in it was just at 60%.
So I turned it off removed the ac-adapter, removed the battery, put the battery back into the laptop pluged the ac-adapter back in and booted up again. Now it showed it was running from external power again. All fine. It charged the battery as well. Actually it charged the battery up to 99% and then out of nowhere the battery symbol changed and it was running from battery AGAIN! Even though it was still connected to the ac-adapter. This happens all the time. It is reproducable.
So I thought something might be wrong with the ac-adapter.
I powered down the laptop and removed the battery. Now with only the ac-adapter connected ,I tried to start the laptop. The control lights above the keyboard came on for 2 or 3 seconds and then the laptop turned off again. Trying to hit the power button again after that didn't give another reaction.
Conclusion: The laptop won't run just on external power with no battery in the battery bay.
I put in the battery again. AC-adapter still connected. Hit power. Laptop starts to boot. Then while booting I removed the battery. Laptop keeps on booting - finishes booting - runs nice and well at full speed not missing the battery - FOREVER.
So it won't boot with the battery removed, but it will run without it flawlessly??? Strange isn't it?
Next test: I put in the battery again while the laptop is running from mains. And now it charges the battery again until the point... you already know... it "forgets" that it is connected to the ac-adapter and starts running on battery power. So now I boldly removed the battery while the laptop was running. After all it was still connected to mains/ac-power.
On mostly when my charge is 96% the charging light starts blinking red continuously , some thimes it does not charge the laptop too , but after some time it starts again.

I searched and did a hard reset..BUT when i shut it down or hibernate . again its like dead and i have to plug in the power cord for 20 min and do a hard reset to turn it on . It also happens that if i shut down while the power cord is plugged and i take it out and again plug it , it stops charging..(again need a hard reset).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an older Inspiron 6400 (looks like the 1505) that isn't charging the battery. The bios indicates that the battery is charging, and that it is performing normally. There isn't a red flashing battery indicator, but when the laptop is powered on there isn't any "green light" indication of the battery, either. The AC adapter performs normally ( Charger is a PA10 (90watt) and it works fine on my D800, and charges that battery normally).
What I don't understand is why the BIOS indicates the battery is charging and that the battery is performing normally. However, when I have the system up and running there isn't a green battery indicator light on the button strip. Let me clarify that statement. During the initial boot phase of start-up there is the green indicator light on the button strip, but as the OS finishes loading this light goes out and the battery doesn't charge.
Could this be caused by a faulty Bios update, or is it something with the battery charging circuit of the motherboard? The laptop operates normally when using the AC adapter, just no indication of the battery charging when the OS is fully loaded. OS is Windows XP Pro (SP3).
My Laptop is 1 year and 5 months old. There are 2 problems I am facing with my battery:
1) When it is charging, at around 86% level, it stops charging and I see an orange light blinking at the battery icon and it continues to blink unless I turn the power off and allow the battery to discharge for a while.
2) at around 45% to 50% level, the battery level suddenly drops to 7% level and then I have to charge again.
Because of these issues I now use my laptop as a desktop. It is always plugged in and I use the option of "Stop Charging" in the windows power settings. how to solve the problem.
I have had my Dell Inspiron 1525 for around two years. For the past month, when my power supply is plugged in, the battery does not charge. It has been stuck on 3% and will automatically shut down when unplugged.
I have seen that this is a very common problem, however, when hovering over the battery icon it says: plugged in, CHARGING, where as all of the other posts that I have seen say: plugged in, NOT charging.
I have tried taking the battery out and restarting but this did not work. I also drained my battery and tried to recharge but again, this did not work. My initial thought is that I may need a new battery but I just wanted to check first.
i did the undervolt and it works awesome when running on battery however when you plug it in and use it, it gets hot as hell.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI plug in my adapter and it turns on and all is well once I put it in the charging port to charge the battery of my computer the adapter shuts off immediately. The charging port on the computer is slightly cracked from a fall about a year ago but it recharged perfectly fine until now. I've had 2 other adapters go out on me the original and an aftermarket and now this one is acting up on me. After a bajillion trys if I get the charging prong at the exact right spot it'll charge the battery if I push it in too far it shuts off etc.... Is this a circuitry connection problem? Does it have something to do with the cracked charging port? Is it an electrical short? Is it another bad adapter? Is it a bad battery? Is it a bad "charging board"? Which of these is most likely the case?

My original 6-Cell battery fails to charge anymore so my laptop would not power up just on battery power.
I'd like to know more on how to take better care for my new battery, and so my question is; does HP laptop, cuts off charging when battery is already full? Because i noticed that the "charge/lightning LED" does not stay ON anymore when battery is full. Is this a correct indicator? Or should i remove my battery when running on external power?
I made an impulse buy while i was there a new HDX9494NR . Anyway ive come back to Ireland to discover that the battery refuses to charge .
Ive installed 7 on it to see if an os change would help but its the same as the factory os .

i have a pavilion 2400 which i had sent in a week ago because there was no video. i guess they changed the motherboard, but they fixed that issue.
however, ever since getting the laptop back, the battery doesn't fully charge. only goes up to 66%.
When I use my DV5t off the charger I typically put it in power saving mode which downclocks my CPU to 0.80 GHz. However, when I plug it back in and change the power plan back to high performance, the CPU remains locked at 0.80 GHz while my battery is charging. The CPU remains locked at 0.80 GHz until my battery reaches roughly 85-90% charge, and then the CPU kicks back up to the full 2.40 GHz.
This can be quite annoying when I want to play a game or watch something in HD because I have to wait for the battery to charge if I don't want stuttering.
I figured it was an advanced power plan setting under the Processor Power Management tab, but everything I have tried has not fixed the problem. I have also tried searching through the forums, but have found nothing relating to this problem.
