HP/Compaq :: Vertical Lines- Pavillion DV9000

May 13, 2009

My friend brought his laptop over and I'm trying to help him sort everything out. I think the problem might be due do a dying graphics card or bad memory.

Basically on the load up screen for Windows, there are groups of white dotted vertical lines spread evenly across the screen. This also happens when in CMOS. Everything seems fine on the desktop in safe mode, so I'm not sure whats wrong.

Here's an example... I used MS paint to make a picture to emulate the problem.

the lines go through the windows logo..

HP/Compaq :: Pavillion Dv9000 Optical Drive

May 10, 2010

when I was replacing my optical drive, I managed to tilt it upside down and several springs fell out. I have no clue where they came from specifically, other than knowing they have something to do with the sliding brackets on the sides.

I've searched frantically for a service manual on my optical drive to fix this problem, but I can't seem to find anything.

The drive in question is:
DVDRW/R and CD-RW Double-Layer Combo Drive with LightScribe

Part number (from the dv9000 service manual):
432973-001

HP/Compaq :: HP Pavillion DV9000 Fried Card

May 12, 2010

I know the DV9000 has problems. I've had the laptop for 3.5yrs and at the end of last yr it died on me. I tried to find out the problem and eventually figured it was the overheating and badly manufactured design as so many other people with this laptop found. Even took it in for a fault assessment and they told me that the integrated graphics card was probably fried.

Thing is, the other day I bought a screwdriver set and decided to open up the laptop and take a look around and boot it up again and now I'm having second thoughts.

Firstly, if it was the graphic card that was fried, surely the hdd would still boot into windows? When I turn on the laptop, the screen goes grey / lights up (as it normally did when the laptop was working) but nothing much happens after that. I dont hear the hdd booting up and nothing really happens. All I hear is the fan working and eventually after 20min of nothing happening I just pulled the power cable out.

So I tried taking out the hdd and booting up. Nothing comes up on the display and nothing happens. Even if the hdd is out, should any sort of display come up? like surely the BIOS or even a screen saying "no hdd detected" should come up?

If it is the graphics card that is fried, does that mean that if I plug a secondary monitor into the monitor port on the laptop, it shouldnt display anything should it? or does the extra monitor port on the laptop run through a different circuit system than the main LCD screen on the laptop?

HP/Compaq :: Dv6 Faint Vertical Lines

May 23, 2010

I just bought a dv6-2190us and I love the laptop but the screen quality is horrible.

In white areas of the screen, instead of the display being pure white, it is grainy instead, with very faint vertical lines running up and down the screen, becoming more noticable as the viewing angle changes vertically. This drives me crazy as I work with text for a living and screen quality is critical to me.

The screen quality of $399 Compaq CQ60 is head and shoulders above this.

I've tried calibrating the screen, verifying that it's in native resolution, etc, etc to no avail.

I dont think the problem is isolated to my laptop because I checked some other dv6's at bestbuy and saw the same problem.

HP/Compaq :: Vertical Lines On My Presario V6000

Jan 8, 2010

I have a Presario V6000 and i love it, but just recently ive started to get vertical lines on my LCD. so far there are 4 groups, maybe 3-4 pixles wide that run the length of the monitor. I've priced out new monitors at around $100, but my concern is: is it the LCD going bad or is it the signal cable?

what there extremely fine lines are, they show in the bios boot screen so it is not a software fault.

Is there anyway to minimize them.

I have plugged in an 19" external monitor and the lines do not show.

HP Compaq Nx6330 Display :: Gray Vertical Lines On External Monitor

Dec 14, 2014

I have an hp compaq nx6330 (ex856av) using windows xp. last may, the screen turned black (i was told i need to replace the lcd), so i decided to use a generic external monitor. a couple of months ago, i had to have it repaired and the repair guy said he'll upgrade the OS to windows 7. things were working fine for about a month then the screen (external monitor, since the laptop screen is dead) starting having vertical gey lines (the entire screen). i played with the resolution and i was able to get rid ofthe lines a couple of times. are the lines due to using windows7? can this particular model handle any OS besides the one (windows xp) it came with?

HP/Compaq :: HP Pavillion Dv9000-wireless Has Been Cutting In And Out And Sometimes Takes About A Half Hour To An Hour To Be Able To Connect Again

Mar 9, 2009

For a while now, my wireless has been cutting in and out and sometimes takes about a half hour to an hour to be able to connect again. Other laptops in the house connect to the same internet connection just fine. I met a girl last night who was saying how her internet wont connect anymore and she had the same laptop as me so I'm assuming its the computer and not the internet.

even before this issue though, the wireless networks window, when you click on the two computers to see the different connections, it always freezes to a white window to begin with and will take up til an hour to actually show the different connections.

This problem is incredibly annoying and i just want a solid internet connection without it cutting out .

Dell :: Vertical Lines On Screen

Jan 16, 2009

I have 4 vertical lines almost equal distance apart on about 1/5 of the left of my screen on my Dell Inspiron 9300.

My assumption is the video card. I believe a soda got on it and that the previous owner tore it down and attempted to allow it to dry.

I have an old Dell Inspiron 8100 and wanted to ask if there was anyway that video card might fit the 9300? That would be a quick fix where it could be used immediately.

If not, I would really like to mod it out, but have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. Any ideas or proper parts to look into would be greatly appreciated. Add speed, get better video, etc. Can I purchase a different motherboard that would fit inside?

I bought a Dell Studio 15 last week. It arrived yesterday and the first thing I noticed when I turned it on was that there are tiny vertical lines all over the screen. They're not always visible, mainly just on brighter colours.

They're not colourful lines, they're almost transparent. It's definatly not the same lines caused by the overheating problem in the XPS series. These look a lot different .....

Dell :: Small Series Of Vertical Lines

Jun 17, 2009

I have vertical lines on my m1330 but not the same kind that I keep finding in my searches.

My computer doesn't crash, it just has a few lines up and down the screen when I boot and they stay there.

A bit of history, the computer was dropped by the previous owner (one of my coworkers) and the screen was broken so I bought a replacement LCD for it and swapped it out.

Worked great for two weeks until I got the lines. Its still functional, the lines are just annoying and I'm worried about a burn in. I tried taking the screen apart again and checking my connections but the lines are still there

Acer :: Aspire 9304 Vertical Lines On Screen

Nov 19, 2009

I have had my Acer since new (about 2 years), not having any problems with it whatsoever, until recently, when it decided that upon displaying dark (black, grey etc) background it will intermittently flash white vertical lines across the screen.

Since it is out of warranty I have had it looked up by a repair company, which have said it was the screen connection cables that were at fault. That helped the problem for about a month, after which it reappered.

I have repeated the process then - the company replaced the connections, but this time it didn't help at all.

As this is happeneing randomly I am now asking, what could be the casue of such a fault,, if anyone has any idea. If there are any questions I will respond to the best of my knowledge.

I have made a short video that shows exactly what happens

Dell :: Inspiron 1501... White Screen W/ Vertical Lines

Oct 29, 2007

it's running WinXP, AMD dual core, 1 gig ram, 120 gb hd...

seems to happen when i'm in any application. it'll kick me out and i'll have a white screen with blue or purple vertical lines. bought new in June of this year and it's been happening almost daily for the past 3 months.

2 days ago, i finally decided to reinstall windows XP. i did this and i still have the problem and it seems to have gotten worse. just today i got the error 4 times! and the last time i just got a solid blue screen. it's never happened this often before.

i called dell tech support. they seem to think it's bad ram so they're sending me new ram to try out. it's not the BSOD... it just mostly the white w/ stripes screen or, like the last time, a solid blue screen... no text.

Dell :: Cold Shoulder From On NVidia/crash/vertical Lines

Feb 19, 2010

getting Dell to change its tune?

I bought a refurbished XPS 1330 in mid-2008 from the Dell Outlet and a few days ago started experiencing what so many others have.

I was told my a supervisor today that my machine shipped with a motherboard that was updated to address the NVidia issue, and the extended warranty wouldn't help me. I have a fried machine that's less than two years old, and Dell says I'm on my own.

From reading other posts here, it looks like this problem is deeper and more widespread than they're letting on now.

Dell Latitude E4300 :: Vertical Lines Appeared On Screen

Apr 22, 2013

I have a Dell E4300.A few days ago 2 vertical lines appeared on my screen, now there are around 10, different colors and sizes. When i press on the bottom of my display, where is the Dell logo, they disappear.I removed the display cover and, i think, the problem is the band in the middle, not the flex band connected to the motherboard.

Can the bottom of the display be changed? Is something like an inverter, but my screen is LED, so i belive that is a different mechanism. Is there any way to fix this without replacing the display?I checked with an external monitor, it works fine.

Sony :: Green And Orange Vertical Lines Down Vaio VGN-CR220E Screen

Feb 9, 2009

I'm pretty sure that my LCD screen is shot, and unfortunately, the warranty on this notebook expired in october, so sending it to SONY for repair is completely out of the question (They want $500 when I paid $900 for this notebook, it's absolutely not worth it)

That leaves me with the option of replacing the screen on my own.

Ordering a screen through Sony Parts Direct would cost me around $250, while getting a cheap third party replacement off of ebay for around $75 dollars. I don't really care either way as long as the computer works for at least another year.

So my questions would be,

1) Has anyone ordered a replacement screen off of ebay before, and what was the quality like?

and

2) Where can I find the disassembly, repair instructions for this computer on the Sony website?
