i own a compaq cq50 laptop, i was woundering if i would call hp up and ask if i could order a new keyboard for my laptop and they would install it fo me, i dont want a different one, i would just want a new one, would this be possible?
View 3 RepliesThis Compaq CQ50-NR215 has continued to get slower over time. It was bought at BestBuy, and came with (2) "GeekSquad" recovery CD's- as opposed to a Microsoft OS disk? Upon backing up my data, I proceded with Disk1- which it said successfully did something with the partition. Stage two was installing original software. It stalled during this stage & gave ERROR 1005. After removing the CD, the laptop failed to boot, stating that some device in the boot sector was not present.

It so happened that I had a Vista OS CD from some other computer, so I inserted the CD & tried reboot. After asking whether to repair/install windows (which I selected install), it appeared to going well. The greeting message appears & says "Prepearing your DESKTOP for initial use". It booted fine, the UI appears intact. The problem-

The WLAN light on the laptop which is red when turned off/blue when on- remains red & will not activate. In the device manager I find no network adapter. A section named "Other Devices" is highlighted in yellow indicating an issue- when selecting Other Devices, a submenu appears & the following list is present (see photo also)

From the HP driver download section, I downloaded what I thought may be the appropriate chipset to a flash drive, then moved to the laptop & installed. Still nothing.

It was suggested that I may be able to plug an ethernet cable directly from my router to the laptop & gain internet access that way- which failed, no access. The CD I installed from was designed for an older desktop, not having the software to make use of the internal wifi.
my laptop runs extraordinarily hot (I believe it was a faulty fan/heatsink assembly.) So I purchased a replacement, opened up the laptop and replaced it.
Now I get underload temps Up to 94C on GPU (and around 80 on CPU -
i purchased a compaq presario cq50 model, and i already upgraded my ram to 3gb, and the hp site says i should be able to upgrade to 4gb. also i have a hdmi port blocked up, so can i add a hdmi port? what can i do to upgrade it more?
because i plan to have this laptop for 3-5 years but i also plan on buying a desktop replacement laptop this summer.
I got my laptop about one month ago.
I'm kinda worried about it's temperatures. Just surfing internet, I get 75-88ºC (or even 91ºC) on the CPU, and 55ºC on the harddrive. Is that normal? If I run a game, the temperature goes even higher. For example, I was at 77ºC and I opened a video in youtube and it went to 81ºC! Right now I'm just talking on Skype and I have 85ºC.
The computer is not on my lap, it is on a table, so i am not blocking any of the air vents, and the room temperature is not high at all.
Are those temps normal? Should I worry?
how to start up this laptop so it will bring up an external monitor so I can transfer my data to another machine?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario CQ50-108NR and my computer needed a recovery, but I had accidentally formatted that part of the hard drive. So I used my Vista Ultimate disk and fresh installed it on my laptop. Because of this, I have to reinstall all of my drivers on my Laptop.
So, I went to HP's site for the drivers which was here. My priority is to get my wifi/internet working as soon as possible because I can download the rest of the drivers later. So, I download both the Atheros and Broadcom drivers for my laptop. I've installed both of them, but my Laptop still doesn't detect any wifi spots despite there being plenty around me. Also, I keep getting a notification that windows must now install drivers for hardware, yet it when I click auto detect and folder detect (folder where my drivers are), it says unable to find any. Also, here is my wifi card.

Recently I've started to hear some odd sounds coming from my DV2. I've been hearing pops, clicks, clacks, something that sounds something is constantly being turned on and off, and a very faint sound that sounds almost like a fan, but is coming from more near the middle or right side of the laptop than where the fan is.
Just wondering how bad these sounds are, or if they're natural laptop sounds that for some reason I just never heard.
I have found a "fix" for my laptop's fans not going fast when needed (Putting in Stand-by/Sleep Mode and Waking it up), But is it normal to be having these temps at regular usage?

With that being said, I still don't want a crappy laptop that isn't stable (As far as graphics). I'm going to be using it for basically word processing, viewing movies, music editing, light video editing, and web browsing of course. I just need to know if it's a good machine, if anyone with the laptop care to let me know their experience, that was would be dope. If it's not any good I could just send it back for an exchange or get my money back. I paid around 625.00, that was with my student discount, but it came up to 700.00 before that.

Many forum members also have said that HP seems to be steering people to the more expensive HDX series for gaming.
This consensus has been re-enforced by HP itself. You will notice in their online store that the category once called "Versatile Performance" is now "Everyday Computing." This is pretty transparent...
I've seen lots of posts about laptops that won't start but none with the exact same problem as me. When I press the power button it lights up and it sounds like it's going to turn on but nothing happens. There's nothing on the screen. It sounds like it used to if you closed the lid while it was on.

atm the only real "load" i have running is firefox, digsby (IM client), and itunes. only real cpu usage (through task manager) is firefox. when i exit everything and have nothing running, it use to idle at around 70C but after undervolt i can get it to around 60C

if your laptop is freezing, u can still move the mouse (using touchpad) but u cant click on anything, it's a complete freeze except for the mouse, alt ctrl delete will not work eitherb. most of the time i get this when i sign in to msn, sometimes i sign in without freezing sometimes it freezes right when i sign in, at that exact moment, sometimes it freezes when i use firefox, it neer freezed before when i worked on a non internet related application

Anyway to cut a long story short I want to get XP back on my HP Compaq 6710b, but I get the following message during install

The other day I was shutting down my laptop and it paused as normal to install the latest Windows updates. Later that evening I went to power it on and nothing happened. I immediately check the power brick and it's power light was on. Then I swithched to batter and stll nothing would come on. It's as if no power is gettng to the laptop.
I remember a similar thing happened when my hard drive connector failed, so I swapped them out, but changing that had no effect.

always loose signal at home and sometimes Id just let my laptop stay off for a while and then it would catch the signal again. yesterday I had problems with conecting to the network. then I checked my ip address on the laptop and it was all zeros... today I tried to check it again, typed in ipconfig command to see the address but there's a message comes out which says that Media is disconnected... I tried to press this wifi button on the laptop but it wont light on. now the wireless network option isn't even in the Network connections folder...
