View 3 Repliesmy laptop's lcd screen died 1 month after guarantee expiry. Since original LCD replacement screens are crazy expensive, I bought physically compatible lcd screen, that supports same resolution.
But I cannot get any higher resolution as 1024x768 (I've used 1400x1050 on original). I suspect there is a problem with drivers - my screen is recognized as plug and play monitor, but settings won't offer me any higher screen resolution.
my laptop runs extraordinarily hot (I believe it was a faulty fan/heatsink assembly.) So I purchased a replacement, opened up the laptop and replaced it.
Now I get underload temps Up to 94C on GPU (and around 80 on CPU -
i purchased a compaq presario cq50 model, and i already upgraded my ram to 3gb, and the hp site says i should be able to upgrade to 4gb. also i have a hdmi port blocked up, so can i add a hdmi port? what can i do to upgrade it more?
because i plan to have this laptop for 3-5 years but i also plan on buying a desktop replacement laptop this summer.
I got my laptop about one month ago.
I'm kinda worried about it's temperatures. Just surfing internet, I get 75-88ºC (or even 91ºC) on the CPU, and 55ºC on the harddrive. Is that normal? If I run a game, the temperature goes even higher. For example, I was at 77ºC and I opened a video in youtube and it went to 81ºC! Right now I'm just talking on Skype and I have 85ºC.
The computer is not on my lap, it is on a table, so i am not blocking any of the air vents, and the room temperature is not high at all.
Are those temps normal? Should I worry?
when i charge my battery not only does my fan speed up, heat up, and so does my charger, the brick heats up or w.e it feals like it could set something on fire if left for a long time, should i worry? or is this normal in all laptops? (this is for the charger)

I'm not a really big fan of this processor it seems really slow, so I was wondering what other processors this computer supports. it has a socket p 478 so it must support some of the mobile core duos,
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a Compaq Presario CQ50-108NR and my computer needed a recovery, but I had accidentally formatted that part of the hard drive. So I used my Vista Ultimate disk and fresh installed it on my laptop. Because of this, I have to reinstall all of my drivers on my Laptop.
So, I went to HP's site for the drivers which was here. My priority is to get my wifi/internet working as soon as possible because I can download the rest of the drivers later. So, I download both the Atheros and Broadcom drivers for my laptop. I've installed both of them, but my Laptop still doesn't detect any wifi spots despite there being plenty around me. Also, I keep getting a notification that windows must now install drivers for hardware, yet it when I click auto detect and folder detect (folder where my drivers are), it says unable to find any. Also, here is my wifi card.
if this hard drive would fit in and be compatible with my laptop:

I'm not sure if this 12mm, 2.5 inch drive would fit in it or be compatible with it. I plan to purchase this one if it is indeed compatible and will fit.
Otherwise, if not, then can someone recommend another internal 750 GB SATA 3 Gb/s 8 MB Cache 5200 or 5400 hard drive for me that is just as good quality as Western Digital? Must be compatible and fit.
This Compaq CQ50-NR215 has continued to get slower over time. It was bought at BestBuy, and came with (2) "GeekSquad" recovery CD's- as opposed to a Microsoft OS disk? Upon backing up my data, I proceded with Disk1- which it said successfully did something with the partition. Stage two was installing original software. It stalled during this stage & gave ERROR 1005. After removing the CD, the laptop failed to boot, stating that some device in the boot sector was not present.
Â
It so happened that I had a Vista OS CD from some other computer, so I inserted the CD & tried reboot. After asking whether to repair/install windows (which I selected install), it appeared to going well. The greeting message appears & says "Prepearing your DESKTOP for initial use". It booted fine, the UI appears intact. The problem-
Â
The WLAN light on the laptop which is red when turned off/blue when on- remains red & will not activate. In the device manager I find no network adapter. A section named "Other Devices" is highlighted in yellow indicating an issue- when selecting Other Devices, a submenu appears & the following list is present (see photo also)
Coprocessor
Ethernet Controller
SM Bus Controller
Unknown Device.
From the HP driver download section, I downloaded what I thought may be the appropriate chipset to a flash drive, then moved to the laptop & installed. Still nothing.
Â
It was suggested that I may be able to plug an ethernet cable directly from my router to the laptop & gain internet access that way- which failed, no access. The CD I installed from was designed for an older desktop, not having the software to make use of the internal wifi.
I would like to thank The realfireblade for answering my post in a different forum. It has been impossible for me to answer him directly. The dell forum refuses my password.
I worked on that all day today, changing my account three or four times. I thought I had finally managed to create a new one that worked, but no, when I tried to answer Therealfireblade, the forum refused my password. I am not stupid, I had written the right password.
I have spent three days now trying to get in touch with somebody at Dell's to know where I can have my little laptop repaired. It is awful
I dropped my studio 15 onto the floor and cracked the LCD display all the way across.
The display is totally dead.
Ive been in touch with dell direct and they are quoting £200 for a replacement screen, and i have to fit it myself at that price.
I was given a dell d620 with a broken screen. Looked like it was cracked down the middle. I replaced the screen (not the lid or hinges). It makes a clicking/cracking type noise when I open the lid. No visible cracks. Now, sometimes when it boots, i get vertical lines and sometimes dollar signs before Windows boots. Windows DOES boot fine with no lines whatsoever. I have researched and found the symptoms are the same for a bad vid card. (I know this has Integrated graphics). If my card was bad, would Windows still boot and look normal? Why would it only affect the boot screen?
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy screen is broken (long story... lent laptop to a friend, came back all screwed up).
my question is: a) with a replacement screen, do I need a new inverter as well, or no and b) if so, would most replacement screens come with one???
i got a dell1525 which all worked fine kids broke the screen, it has a hdmi lead out on it so i connected it to my tv which has a pc channel but when i go to hdmi 1 it just stays black screen
on the tv i have also tryed a vga lead with the same effect even pressing the fn key and
f8 is there a way i can get some picture or test as the laptop seems to boot up fine and id like to just buy a new screen rather then bin it
many thanks
I received my Studio 1555 this evening (was away at class, mother signed for package) and upon opening up the box and booting up the laptop, the screen has a small 1 inch crack at the top of it, on the left side of the camera. I don't see any damage on the lid where the crack is on the screen. I have already tried calling the technical support line with no help from the indian speaking fools there. Does anybody know if I'm going to have to send it back to Dell to have it repaired or will they send a tech out with it? I only have the basic 1 year warranty on it since I had to keep the price to a certain minimum.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI recently dropped my acer 5315 and now the screen is broken. There are a lot of black blotches and a little color and some lines when I start up and it stays that way.
Would anybody know approximately what it would cost to replace the screen or know where I could purchase one.
How big of a job would it be to replace as I have never worked on a laptop.
I broke the screen of my sony vaio sr19vn. (part number LTD133EWZX) I tried several screen selling companies, but they don't seem to have the one I need...
So I was wondering if it is possible to just buy another screen of the same size?
My husband dropped his Aspire 3680-2682 the other day and the screen went wonky. I booted it off a VGA monitor and it seems to be fine running from there, BUT I could not get it to boot to VGA except in safe mode, and when I choose to boot in regular mode it goes to the LCD screen and doesn't allow switching the display to the external monitor.
This is the only thing that concerns me that it might not be just the screen that sustained damage.
I was eventually able to get th bezel off (it doesn't come 100% off on this model but doesn't need to) and remove the lcd panel for inspection. The thin board taped to the back of the panel doesn't seem to be visibly broken or strained and the connectors to it were taped so firmly in place they didn't budge on impact. The small board that rests at the bottom of the top case under the bezel (the inverter?) can't be inspected well and I don't want to damage it by trying. In any case nothing appears damaged to the naked eye on or around the screen.
The first pic is how the screen looks when booted; it also (visibly) flickers and redraws continuously. The second shows that applying pressure allows a clearer view of the console and stops the flickering.

I have found a replacement screen online for 50.00 and feel comfortable enough trying to replace it rather than spend the cost of a new laptop on sending it for repairs.
However, if it's not just the screen I don't want to throw more money at this.
In your experienced opinions, does it look like the damage is typical of a broken LCD screen and not something in the motherboard? (no clue on how to get a closer look at that stuff. took every screw out of it last night and couldn't get the bottom case to reveal its secrets.)
Restarted my Ideapad last night (following a virus scanner update), and after the restart the screen came back with multicoloured vertical stripes. Fortunately I still have my old desktop monitor in the house, so I plugged it into that and managed to get the screen displaying on there. Â Having run the Lenovo support tool, it hasn't managed to find any hardware issues. The image below is set so the same image should be displayed on both monitors.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAspire S3. The PC is perfectly fine, except the fact the the screen is broken. It already broke twice (just by opening...), so we are not spending money on a third one.So, what I want to do is to connect it to an external monitor through HDMI (and possibly remove the broken screen, since it has no use). I can do it in Windows, but not outside Windows (BIOS) and I'd like install Windows 8.1 or 10. So my question is: can I force output from boot into HDMI? If so how, if not, what alternatives do I have to install a new version of Windows without spending a small fortune?

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy mom's HP dv6000 will not connect to any wireless networks. I thought the network adapter might be fried but last night for no reason after weeks or months of not working the light for the wireless switch was on and turned blue. Wifi card worked flawlessly until I left it off the charger for a few hours and it turned off. Upon rebooting its again broken. The wireless switch indicator led stays red in both the on and off poisition.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a DV9000, 17inch. A number (that I think is significant) 439112-001 is on the bottom of the laptop.
I need to buy a refurbished/spare part motherboard to replace the one that died in my other computer, but I can't figure out which one to buy. At first I thought it was as simple as buying a used DV9000 laptop or motherboard, but apparently not only does the screen size (13 vs 19 inch) matter, but also a number.
I see numbers on ebay with stuff like "447983-001"--that's why I thought that one number on the bottom of mine was important. But I can't find that number on any motherboard on ebay, and it only turns up 300 pages on google, which leads me to believe it isn't the right number.
i have on my HP TX2000 laptop is that the wifi switch stays in the amber color , and no matter how much i play with the switch , doesn't change . i tried to initiate the " diagnose & repair " on it , but it keeps saying that a " plug is disconnected ".
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe LCD on my DV2000 broke last month and since I dont have the money to replaced right away I decided to use it with my 17" lcd monitor for the mean time. After a few days of using it with the external monitor one day I turn it on and got nothing on my external monitor. Since then I having trying to figure out why I am not getting video signal through my VGA or s video.
Now I am afraid there is something worst than just the broken lcd so I am trying to see if there any way I can test it or find out if it still works before I get the replacement LCD. I at least know the there is signal going to the broken lcd since when it turns on the screens light up and turns white.
Is it possible to use a different size lcd from another hp? I have 15.4 lcd from my sister's old compaq will the dv2000 mother board run a bigger screen or will it kill the motherboard?
If you have an Phoenix BIOS (there should be a small logo at the right lower corner..)
And with a broken/desoldered/loose GPU (black screen with blue bars)
Can you press Help Win+B (or ctrl-b, alt-b) then turn on the laptop. Does it make beeps?, if you put in a USB floppy disk, with a disk inside, does it try to read it?
If so it might be possible to rewrite the BIOS so that it will initialize the "Vidock/hwtools.net" pci-express adapter FIRST.
Just like how in BIOS you can "set it" (via setup) to initialize the AGP or PCI video card FIRST, or PCI-E or PCI video card FIRST.
