Problem: After logging in, the screen flashes the Start Screen on and off in random fashion, and is unresponsive to any input.
Effort: We followed the instructions on the HP web site for this symptom (Desktop Screen Flashes Between a Blue Screen with a Blank Taskbar and a Desktop Screen on Startup (Windows 8)), but it failed at step 8 - the Start Screen flashes in Safe Mode with no way to find or enter the "Control Panel" step.
We have also rolled back the system to the last restore point, reseated the memory, and reset the BIOS - all HP recommended processes for video problems.
Current Status: We always look to resolve any problems via the HP web site first; this one had us stumped.

Oct 22, 2014I have the Pavilion g7-2235dx with Windows 8.1 operating system. Nearly every automatic update messes up my ability to get on the internet. The only way I can connect is to uninstall all of the updates. The icons on my desktop also stopped working. When I click on them, it goes right back to desktop. Can't pin them to the taskbar either. The ones on the taskbar won't open by clicking on them either. Have to right click and tell it to open. Also problem getting my Norton anti-virus to open. Says it working but can't open it.

Oct 28, 2009I have been looking and saving to build a $2000 desktop and then I ran into this beast of a machine the Envy15. Now I will be using it mainly for school whihc is 3d apps, CAD, works, everything and anything I can get my hands one including playing some WoW and the new COD here or there. I mainly work at school so I figured lugging a desktop around wouldnt work.
My question to you all is this Envy really a desktop replacement? How well will it perform with that Radeon 4830 1GB card? Without factoring in my traveling to school, would it be wiser to spend the money on a desktop or the Envy?

HP/Compaq :: Fitting Desktop On TV With HDMI
Apr 5, 2009I had nvidias latest driver, but it made my DV9774 fan run erratic most times. It came on for a second and off for 30 seconds, just while I was browsing the net. It was odd. It also ran full speed for a few minutes after boot, when it was clap cold.
So I went back to the older driver for now and the fan is fine.
The issue is, with nvidias latest driver that I removed there was a handy feature in the nvidia GeForce control panel in Display Properties that had big arrows on screen on my TV and sliders to resize the desktop so you can see the taskbars and start button, and nothing went off the edge.
Now with the older driver package that feature is gone....of course now when watching stuff via HDMI on my widecreen HDTV stuff goes off the edges and can't click on anything at the bottom, etc.
Is there an app or even anything from nvidia I can get to do the same thing, without installing the latest driver that caused my fan to do what it liked? If it was the driver at fault, it might have been anything in that whole latest pack I got from nvidia before, that made the fan act up.

May 3, 2010I have just bought my G62 laptop and have pretty much no complaint except the backspace's bounce seems to be a bit off and a little loud. However, I seem to notice this weird dimming issue when I set my laptop to either Power Saver or HP Recommended mode. When I go from the internet browser to the desktop and wait like 3 seconds, the screen seem to dim just a tiny bit. Sometimes it dims twice. Most noticeable when using the lowest brightness level. It's really bothering me, does anybody know what it is? It's not the auto-dim feature, because it dims in like 3 second. It just flickers a little bit.
Also, when I move a browser or window up and down, I can see this fuzziness on the outline of the window, including the outline of the search bar. I updated the display adapters, I have Intel HD Graphics display adapters.
My specs are:

4GB

Feb 13, 2009I just got my new hp pavillion dv7-1000, it loaded up and i did all the registration stuff before you actually get to using the laptop but as the vista desktop loads up i closed to lid and it put the laptop on standby.
Now when i try to turn the laptop on i get to the log on screen, put in my password, it loads up and then i get a blue screen with my mouse cursor but no desktop icons or anything. I can still do control-alt-delete but i just cant see any of the other stuff.
I then booted in safe mode and i could then see everything but it looked like windows 98 not vista,

Jan 7, 2010I have a HP Pavilion dv9500 notebook and yesterday after more than two years of pretty much running smoothly it wouldn't boot. First it actually booted into windows but the whole desktop screen was frozen with mouse cursor. So I turned it off, turned it back on and it booted into blue screen and restarted itself. After couple of tries I booted into safe mode which was running fine.
I wasn't sure what the problem was but I was thinking it must be software related, so I loaded an image of my system which I've used before and knew was ok. But even after putting a brand new OS it was doing the same thing.
One time I was actually able to boot into normal mode so I thought maybe the issue got resolved magically. But, I have my external monitor plugged in and even when in normal mode the signal wouldn't go through, so I had to use my laptop monitor. I kept trying to switch the signal and even though it was showing the icon like it's transferring nothing happened. So I checked my video card properties and the card all of the sudden had no drivers and was basically unrecognized by the OS.

Jan 27, 2009I have an HP DV 6000T. I just bought a HP Elite M9510f Desktop from HP.com, and I don't have a monitor yet, so I am trying to connect my Desktop VGA to my Laptop VGA in and use my DV6000T as a monitor.
I also have a Sharp TV which I tried using as a monitor but the thing keeps flashing the Power and OPC lights and won't let me see anything.

However, I was wondering if heat management and battery life has improved with driver- and BIOS updates over time.

May 28, 2010I'm shopping for laptops right now and I'm pretty much stuck between these two. My main question for the 14 is will it be able to do full hd? I know 1920x1080 is a bit much to ask for on a 14.5" screen but I haven't been able to find a solid answer for this question. The 14 has more features and the internal cd drive is a plus, but not a dealbreaker for the 15 since the cd drive isn't used too much. Taking out price, which one would be a better buy?

Feb 13, 2010I have a couple of questions about the Envy v2. I'm certain the answers are somewhere in the massive owner's thread but it's way too long to want to go through at this point.
My questions are:
1) Audio quality of external speakers. Is there enough bass in them? Do they sound "tin-y"?
2) Noise from the fan when the GPU is in high use. How loud is the fan? Has anyone put a decibel meter to it?
3) Temp of the GPU. My Studio 15 is hitting a high of 70c when running and was wondering how the newer ATI is.

Apr 11, 2010The first I heard about the Envy line was that it was a gorgeous laptop with a great display and above-average speakers. However, it was fundamentally flawed with a horrible trackpad and overheating issues(present in the 13, but further aggravated in the 15). After the spectacular fail of a release, I dropped the Envy out of consideration.
To the present, I've recently started looking at a huge array of laptops and have taken the Envy into consideration again. From what I've heard, the Envy 15 is in its second generation(I need a full-HD laptop and won't be considering the Envy 13). It now comes equipped with a i5 processor and the HD5830.............

May 15, 2010I came across an Envy, and it looked really light and cool.
The Envy 15 seems to have good specs, with the 5830 and i5's or i7's, 4 sodimms (right?) 1080p screen.
The Envy 14, however, seems to be a bit weak..
Is there a special feature in the Envy 14 that I better wait for? or, is the Envy 15 still a reasonable machine that I could aim for in my trade?
I can't really find the part that explains the refreshes of the Envy 15..
I really want to know if the Envy 14 is a different league than the Envy 15, or if they are in the similar league so that I should wait for the 14 model.
