my laptop is restarting itself after a few hours randomly.its been happening since yesterday.cpu temp is 59-63celcius.it started after i installed ubuntu dual boot with win 7 on it.the fan is running really slow.i just updated my bios to latest version but still problem remains.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a dell inspiron N5050 core i5, 8GB RAM but when I run applications like GNS3, the cpu usage runs up to 100% and freezes whereas the RAM usage is only about 2.7GB (that is, about 33%). How can I get the RAM to function optimally?
I even had to upgrade to Windows 8 thinking it would solve the problem but here I am stuck with the same problem.
before microsoft rated it at 6 hours now they have knocked it down to 4.4

I have the following set-up on my DM3T that is getting 4.5-5 hours of battery life at a maximum with light use, ie: lowest screen brightness, wifi off, word processing. I am not running any background programs (anti-virus) or anything else that is resource intensive.

Why am I getting less than 5 hours of battery life on a unit with low specs that is supposed to get "up to" 10 hours?? Is this consistent with what everyone else is getting? Battery bar currently says that my battery's 'full lifetime' is 4:58. I just returned an Acer timeline that had the same processor and 3gb of ram instead of 4, and that thing was getting 8-10 hours easily.
I resumed computer from hibernation and found that digital persona, finger print identification isn't working... I cannot go past the login screen - I put in password and continue to vista. But here everything is slowed down, I check system resources and find that 95% of the ram is used, paging file on disk is totally used. Even cpu is maxed out and i cannot do anything! culprit seems to be digital persona... anyone how to proceed, how to diagnose the problem?

Did refresh, it said to uptdate, 95 updates! said configuring then failed to configure, says confiruring and again failed - keeps repeating itself. took battery our pressed power 20 seconds - restarted. keeps happening. managed to get to repair again but would not - refresh in in progress AGAIN!

I'm looking at a Studio 1557 laptop as a desktop replacement with a 1080p (1920 X 1080) screen which I think will make the text and icons quite small.
I can easily change the DPI to 120 (125%) or 144 (150%) and make everything readable which is great however when it's at a desk it's going to be connected to two 20 inch plus monitors and these require the normal 96dpi (100%).
The problem is the machine will be frequently connected and disconnected and having to close and reopen all applications to restart the machine properly is a real pain.
Windows XP used to warn you about having to restart but if you didn't things were still resized. With Win 7 nothing happens until you do.
I've tried to search as best I can for an answer to my problem, but haven't been able to find an answer as of yet.
I'm running a Dell XPS M1530 with Intel T9300 dual processors and 4GB RAM. My system is a dual-boot: I use Vista Enterprise 32-bit for general activities such as schoolwork and internet, and I also have a very bare-bones Windows x64 that I use for some intensive MATLAB computation and music recording/processing. This system is about 9 months old.
I first started having problems after I'd only had this computer for about a month. I was at a conference and had my laptop in its sleeve and in my backpack. I took it out sometime in the afternoon after having used it in the morning and it was extremely, extremely hot .....
Most of the time when restarting laptop gets stuck at restarting. i have to pull out the battery and put it again n then on the laptop. sometimes the same goes for shutting down....the circle moves endlessly. And always restarting taking too much time almost 1---2 minutes.

1)tried tapping f8 to boot via safemode but unsuccesful(also tried fn+f8 and shift+f8)
2)i have run diagnostics no error is encountered
3)i have entered bios menu and made changes to sata interface to ahci and other alternate options but to no avail
4)removed battery and pressed power button with power off for 15s but no result on giving power
I actually have grub bootloader through which i can open 3 operating systems i have-win7,and 2 unix based os's however as my laptop isnt going beyond the logo screen i cannot even enter my other operating systems to make any changes.
I have a dell inspiron 3521 and lately it has been restarting whenever I close the lid. It has suffered no impacts and it is relatively new.

Whenever a windows update runs, and my computer begins the restart process to finish the update, it will turn off, but will not turn back on automatically. The screen will go black, and the power light is still on, but nothing else will work on the computer unless you force shutdown the computer and then turn it back on. I've waited overnight to see if it would restart and it would not. I've updated all my drivers and run numerous virus and malware programs to make sure it wasn't a bug causing it, and now I'm stuck.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I turn the laptop on it gets to the Dell logo screen then screen goes black with a cursor in top left corner but then it restarts again.Regardless if the F2 or F12 keys are selected or not, the systems restarts again. This cycle continues indefinately until I turn it off.
I have replaced the memory stick (brand new), the hard drive (brand new), the motherboard (used from ebay), and the processor (used from ebay) and still the same thing. I have tried it without the cd drive installed and same thing. I have tried it without the battery installed but with the power supply and same thing. I have tried turning it on with the windows disk in the cd rom drive and same thing.
My wife and daughter both have Dell Inspiron 1525's. My daughter's works flawlessly while my wife's has one irritating glitch. When the lid is closed, instead of going into sleep mode, it reboots itself. It doesn't complete itself though it always stops at the "windows shutdown improperly how do you want to restart" or something like that screen...it's the dos screen that says do you want to start windows normally or in safe mode, etc.
When it does this it never shuts off so I'll get home from work or I'll get up in the morning to find the fan has run all night...It was purchased in august and I'd hate for my wife to prematurely burn this thing up.
I've gone into ms config and one by one tried to isolate what the problem could be. Sometimes I have it narrowed down or actually got the culprit because once in awhile it'll do what it's supposed to do....then next time the lid gets closed it goes back to the existing problem.
I've Probook 4540s notebook , I tried installing watchdogs , after restarting windows doesn't start up correctly , a black screen with blinkin cursor and wifi Icon. I'm using safe mode now :/

Half the times I try to sign into my favourite sites with log-ins I type in my details ,pres enter, press NO for do I want simple pass to add to list and then nothing happens. If I press sign in again then simplepass pops up again and nothing happens until I restart my laptop then its usully OK again.
Can I safely just uninstall simplepass without creating future problems as I don't want to use it anyway.

It's been 24 hours since I ordered a laptop at Dell and I still haven't received an order confirmation, is that normal? I did get the receipt that my order has been received, but no confirmation mail, when I log in to see the status, the system finds nothing.
Is this normal after 24 hours?
I have an Acer Aspire 8930G.
In the last couple of months I've noticed my laptop is getting pretty hot, well actually REALLY . Right now after turning it on for 45min and turning on a game, not a really intense game and I'm not doing anything on it yet, for 10 minutes the temperature reading is already 92 degrees Celsius for the gpu, 23 for the cpu, and 44 for the hdd.
My laptop didn't heat up before only within the last 2 months or so, even though I don't use it that often since I'm mainly on my computer now.

I use laptop for some browsing, listen music and edit text and my battery last around 2 hours. I turn off bluetooth. On official page of the product Dell says that battery should last for 6 hours. My OS is Ubuntu 11.10.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was able to install a new: PNY Optima SSD7SC240GOPT-RB 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) in my ThinkPad X220 model 4287. I installed the latest BIOS before the upgrade and did a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro. The installed went smooth with no issues. I proceeded in installing all Drivers and utilities. Then I noticed that when I restart Windows, the BIOS does not recognize the drive and proceeds to try to boot from the Network, Intel Boot Agent. It does not seem to recognize the SSD drive.
The only way I can get it to boot from windows again is to TURN OFF using the power button and then turning it back ON. I tried the Lenovo SSD firmware update utility to see if my drive needed an update but it did not find any update for my drive. I also tried to the PNY support site and downloaded the firmware update to see if it found any updates for my drive and none where available. I hope LENOVO can release an update to their SSD firmware update tool to fix my problem. I am also not sure if any of the utilities that I installed may be the root of the problem. So right now the only way I can get Windows to load is to turn off and turn back on the laptop. Windows restarts will not work.
Looking at this model right now, I see the battery option has up to 8 hrs and 42 min with the 9-cell. Is this true?
Are Dell Studios really superior on battery life, or is this over-exaggerated?
Do I have to charge the battery for 12 hours like before when I first get my laptop?
View 9 Replies View RelatedJust got 2.5hrs usage on battery from my M6400 (QX9300, FX2700m, 16GB RAM, 500GB RAID 0 disk array). I was pleasantly suprised by this, as previously I've only managed 1.5hrs.
I was working on a virtual PC hosted by the M6400 - developing C++ code - (connected via RDP), included lots of builds and test runs etc to the (also hosted as a VPC on the M6400) sql server.
I just purchased a 4810T laptop, formatted it, and loaded windows 7. Now on power saving Mode it says i only have 4 hours of battery left.. what happened to the selling point of 8 hours?
I'm thinking it might be because I don't have the empowering technology and power smart applications installed, but i can't install it anyway as it doesnt work on windows 7. So whats the problem here? my laptop, windows 7, or acer software?
