It's been 24 hours since I ordered a laptop at Dell and I still haven't received an order confirmation, is that normal? I did get the receipt that my order has been received, but no confirmation mail, when I log in to see the status, the system finds nothing.
Is this normal after 24 hours?

I know the usual drill, disable bluetooth, reduce brightness and etc.. but since i bought my mac (October) my battery life have decreased from 4:30 hours to about over 3 hours. Does anyone have anytips? Use black wallpapers? Use safari instead of firefox? View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I desperately need to vent. On January 6th, I ordered a new 1645 with a Core i7 720 and an RGBLED. It was set to be delivered on the 28th, but it was then pushed back, then cancelled, then Dell re-opened a new identical order, set to be delivered on the 24th of February. I found a really nice Dell Outlet 1645 with a i7 820 in it for 80 bucks less than what I would have paid for the i720. Ordered it, waited a week, nothing. Turns out there was some sort of glitch on my address. (I moved in July, changed all my addresses, but it still hadn't gotten through apparently.) So, I call their silly phone number, and they tell me I have to call them with a PIN number they're going to mail me, fine, whatever. A week has passed and still no mail, nothing. I look at my order status tonight and Dell has now CANCELED this order without TELLING me. I am about to lose my mind. Meanwhile the 15% off Dell outlet coupon is now expired, and there are no longer any XPS 16's in the Outlet... *sigh*... I'm trying to give this company my hard-earned money and they are just making this entire process BEYOND frustrating. I've hoped and hoped that I'd see my laptop shipped since the beginning of January to no avail... Has anyone else had trouble with this sort of thing? I'm THIS close to never ordering another Dell again, I'm so fed up with this entire broken system.

I talked to a nice gentleman from Dell on Friday and am going to "seal the deal". I decided against an Outlet model to avoid any potential problems and my Mom, who is the one really buying it agrees.
The Dell rep recommended the standard Dell 1510 a/g/n card. He said the Intel wasn't really going to give me better performance just cost more for the Intel name.
I did notice the Intel 5300 has more data throughput. In real world, does it make much of a difference? I don't think the laptop will be used to watch streaming video or gaming over the WiFi connection, but what would be a reason to pay the extra for the Intel 5300 over the Dell 1510?

I use laptop for some browsing, listen music and edit text and my battery last around 2 hours. I turn off bluetooth. On official page of the product Dell says that battery should last for 6 hours. My OS is Ubuntu 11.10.

View 9 Replies View RelatedJust got 2.5hrs usage on battery from my M6400 (QX9300, FX2700m, 16GB RAM, 500GB RAID 0 disk array). I was pleasantly suprised by this, as previously I've only managed 1.5hrs.
I was working on a virtual PC hosted by the M6400 - developing C++ code - (connected via RDP), included lots of builds and test runs etc to the (also hosted as a VPC on the M6400) sql server.
Dell have released a new Bios for the M1730. The notes say it adds support for a new GPU!
You may wish to delay pulling the trigger!
I am playing around with configuring a Dell Precision M6400 online and I'm confused about a couple of things. In the ad copy on the website it says that laptop can have up to 16GB of RAM, but when you try to configure the laptop on Dell's website it only shows up to 4GB. Also, I see no option for Vista 64-bit to take advantage of more RAM.
Do you have to call about these features, or am I just stupid and missing it on the website?
Also, I assume adding your own RAM is easy on these machines? Does it void the warranty? Because I assume the thing to do is buy it with the least amount of RAM and add your own aftermarket, correct?
I had a dell inspiron that was changed to a precision system and i tried going to the online tech support but they do not give tech support to precision systems which i kind of find annoying as my landline is my cell phone and going thru tech support during the day kills my minutes.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUntil last week this lappy had the old 80Gb HD and Win XP Pro SP3. I play several online games (Silkroad Online, Battlefield Europe, Steam games) and they all played great.
After 4yrs it had some major issue last week that I couldn't recover from, so I picked up a WD Blue 250GB HD and had Win 7 Home Premuim (bought 4 copies for all the PC's here)
After much driver searching, everything works awesome on it except my games. The keep doing a Pause - Pause - Pause. I have been digging into everything, all sorts of video drivers, etc and nothing has helped. Wonder if its something with the Dell 1350 or Broadcom 440x controller. I've looked for the latest drivers from all over but nothing has helped. Surfing, Videos, Office 2007 all work great. It never crashes.
Any ideas? I tend to think its something in the network part of it. Note, my much older and less powerful desktop is running Win 7 RC and has no issues with games. (I race in several rFactor Leagues)
Also the network here is very solid, a Buffalo 54G and all the laptops connect great, and like I said - no issues gaming with Win XP before.
Should I place the order for SXPS16 online or through a Dell agent ?
I had a chat with a agent today and asked, If he can give some discount on my online config ? He was ready to give discount of $50 on $1250 config and $75 on $1394 config ! Is it worth (means should I bargain more with him :-) ) and safe to place the order through the agent ?
Unfortunately till now there is no substantial discount offered from Dell for black Friday or holiday season

I am currently experimenting on seeing how far beyond the manufacturer's specifications I can take my machine. I'm keeping track of the steps I've taken, and will update this post when I feel I've reached the limits of what this machine is capable of doing, along with exact steps on how to reproduce my setup. Here's what I've currently achieved:
- A maximum of 9 hours of battery life on a 6 cell battery using 6.5 watts
- 6.5 hours of typical battery life while browsing using 8.5 watts
- No audio stuttering/crackling and perfectly green DPC latency
- Super quiet operation with no fan noise (fan stays off and doesn't spin)
- CPU temperatures around 33 degrees, rest of computer around 40 celcius
- Roughly 25 seconds to reboot to a working desktop (not just login screen)
- Only about 0.37 gigs of ram being used when idle
Machine specs are Dell Latitude E6500, Intel P8400 CPU, Intel X4500MHD Graphics, 1440x900 WXGA+ LED Screen, Corsair 128 Gigs SSD, 1.5 Gigs RAM, Dell 1397 Wireless, Dell 370 Bluetooth, DVD RW Drive, Webcam, Backlit Keyboard, 6 Cell Battery, Windows 7 Beta Build 7000.

i have a dell studio 1747 notebook. now i am facing a problem . while playing games (Hot pursuit, call of duty etc) after 5 to 10 minutes it Shuts Down but i can do normal works like browsing , office , or some simple softwares etc. then heat increases normally and Shuts Down after 3-4 hours.

So i decided to format it and start over, issue is it still did the same thing, it kept shutting down at will and making my work process very slow, 4 days it froze while i was trying to browse the internet on Mozilla it was frozen for about 30 mins b4 i decided to restart it, i pressed down the on button and it has refused load up properly since then, it takes hours to boot and even when i get to the password page and see my files my laptop still freezes up and i have to start the whole process again.

In the last couple of months I've noticed my laptop is getting pretty hot, well actually REALLY . Right now after turning it on for 45min and turning on a game, not a really intense game and I'm not doing anything on it yet, for 10 minutes the temperature reading is already 92 degrees Celsius for the gpu, 23 for the cpu, and 44 for the hdd.
My laptop didn't heat up before only within the last 2 months or so, even though I don't use it that often since I'm mainly on my computer now.
