View 1 Replies View Relatedmy hp webcam. Whenever i open the hp webcam mediasmart software, a window pops up and says that the webcam either isn't connected, or is being used by another program. I've restarted my computer and it's not being used by anything else, but it still says this.
View 4 Replies View Relatedi got an HP Pavillion Artist's Edition laptop (HP Pavillion dv2700) with a built-in webcam, running Vista. even more recently i decided to try to get a program i could use to record my desktop, just for fun. i tried a program called ManyCam (since it was free). however, it didn't seem to work with Youcam, and when i tried using Youcam, that wouldn't work either. ManyCam froze when i tried to select the webcam as the source, and Youcam simply showed a black screen where i should've been able to see myself. in the end i uninstalled Youcam (i also no longer have quickplay because i was sick of it starting every time i accidentally brushed the button).
after searching for a solution i tried downloading and installing a non-HP driver (Chicony--now the driver shows up as Acer Crystal Eye webcam). this didn't help any. i even tried a different program, Debut Video Capture Software. still no luck (when i select "device" as the source i just get a black screen). i've looked everywhere i could think for a solution but have yet to find one. any help would be greatly appreciated. just ask if any additional information is needed.
ok, here's what i did: i uninstalled the chicony driver, as well as ManyCam and the other program i had installed. i also got skype, on a friend's recommendation. i restarted my computer to install updates. the hp webcam driver seemed to be installed and running fine. skype detected my webcam. however i still got no picture, just a blank/black screen. even on msn. i found a torrent of youcam and installed it, but it keeps telling me there's no video device detected. my webcam is turning on, but beyond that it's still not working.
I own an hp dv9260us and I cannot get the webcam to operate.

View 4 Replies View RelatedAnyone know a workaround for the HP webcams and facebook or other flash applications? I have no problem accessing my webcam through the supplied software, but any online flash software seems to access the camera for a second (light turns blue), then the light turns off and it fails to connect.
View 5 Replies View Relatedon my old laptop, a lenovo, if i wanted to change the settings of the webcam to lets say black and white, or low light mode, all i would have to do was go into the properties and change it ... then for whatever webcam application i used whether it was facebook video, ooVoo, skype, the webcam would be black and white in low light mode.
but with this HP webcam ... everytime i open up a webcam application the HP mediasmart webcam opens up, and then all my settings from the last time are gone. and when i try to leave a facebook video the mediasmart webcam application doesnt even open up.
BASICALLY, what i am asking is... is there any way to save the webcam preferences on this HP webcam so it is the same for whatever application i use ?
i have a weird problem with my webcam , sometimes when i wanna use it , i open youcam it give me that it cant connect to the device so i need to close all applications that use this webcam while i have no softwares running so i have to restart in order to make it work one day i restarted and the same error occured again so i had to restart a second time :s also , to save threads i will ask here a question about my geforce 9600mgt performance it's good with games and i like it , though it was less than expected if u ask me when i play call of duty 5 and there's a scene where there's lots of smoke or fire from the fl;amethrower it the game becomes ridicously slow untill the smoke disappears and i will be able to play smoothly again anyway my question is not about this , i noticed that the performance of the card isn't always the same sometimes it works great and sometimes i notice that games barely run , even less demanding games like nba 2007 for example for example call of duty 4 , sometimes it works incredibly and some other times don't , isn't it weird ?

I have a Dv3500 laptop, the copper colored model, and I recently reinstalled Windows Vista on this laptop. Everything installs and works fine, except the intergrated usb webcam on the monitor.
It's showing up in Device Manager as a USB Webcam, driver details state it is using a driver by Microsoft and that it is working properly.
When I try to use the webcam, I get an error stating that the usb device is in use.
I have already deleted and reinstalled the usb cam, the usb drivers in device manager.
Anyone have a solution? driver? anything?
I no longer own an Envy15, but I did for about 23 days.
I found this article on engadget: HP Envy 15 said to be suffering from blank screen issues, lousy webcam -- Engadget
Cliffnotes: Fluorescent light produces nice images, incandescent and sunlight produce blue-shifted images.
This might have to do with the camera detecting more into the IR spectrum than a normal camera. We know this because it uses IR LEDs for low-light "night vision." Direct sunlight and incandescent put out a lot of IR light and the camera probably interprets infrared light as bluish. Fluorescent lights produce much less IR light than incandescent and sunlight, so that's probably the issue.
From wiki:
"Many light sources, such as the fluorescent lamp, high-intensity discharge lamps and LED lamps offer higher efficiency, and some have been designed to be retrofitted in existing fixtures. These devices produce light by luminescence, instead of heating a filament to incandescence. These mechanisms produce discrete spectral lines and so don't have the broad "tail" of wasted invisible infrared emissions produced by incandescent emitters." - Incandescent light article
"The heated filament emits light that approximates a continuous spectrum. The useful part of the emitted energy is visible light, but most energy is given off as heat in the near-infrared wavelengths.'' - Incandescent light article
I'm about 90% sure this is the problem. If you have an Envy15 and don't mind spending a few bucks to test this, try purchase an infrared cut-off filter and put it over your web cam.
my webcam won't launch so i downloaded the latest update from hp software and drivers website..
it auto extracted then did some things in cmd, then just went blank, no confirmation and certainly no installation...it's not installing and i do not know why!
i used recovery manager to restore original software but no luck,...

I tied looking elsewhere seems many people have this issue?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy HP built in notebook webcam was at 640 x 480 resolution normally, but all of a sudden, it changed ti 176 x 144!
how the heck this could have been possible? not to mention that the quality is very very Low
and i don't see any way to change it!
maybe i can reinstall the drivers for hp webcam but i find no specific one for my model anywhere!
Bought this laptop brand new from Bestbuy 2 weeks ago, brought it home, tested everything and all was fine, first time I tested the webcam using the HP Mediasmart webcam software all was well, this laptop has 2 lights in the webcam location, to the left of the circular webcam has 4 small dots of light and the webcam itself, the webcam light came on the first time I tested it briefly. We had to do a full recovery [reformat] after a few days and now after the recovery was done, next time I tried the webcam, the webcam works fine, I can see anything but only the webcam light now does not come on, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software and then updating the driver from hp's site but the light still does not come on, only the 4 small dot lights to the left stays on but these lights stay on whether the webcam is on or not,
View 3 Replies View Relateda new 6730b and the one serious remaining problem I have is that the battery, even though plugged in on AC, displays as 'plugged in not charging'.
I've discovered - by endless hours of hard slog - that the webcam driver is actually the issue here. I've uninstalled the chicony software and, on the few occasions that I've succeeded in uninstalling the driver & kept it uninstalled for the next start-up, the battery recommences charging. But in recent days it's reverted to reinstalling the driver on start-up, and stopping the battery recharging.
I can't seem to permanently remove the driver, no matter how hard I try. And I really, really want to!
The driver uninstall or disable in Device Manager only gets rid of it until the next start up (and unless I can restart without it reinstalling, the battery doesn't get kicked into recharge).
I've even tried deleting the driver from WindowsSystem32drivers - I changed all the permissions to enable me to delete and... deleted it! Even double checked that it had gone to the recycle bin. Yes, it's there.
But I restart after all this and the damn thing has magically put itself back in the same file.
how to use the built-in webcam on the dv7 to take still pictures?
Or I must install additional software?
Is there any to download from hp site?
Or any freeware programs available?
I'm In the process of successfully downgrading to XP Pro on this AMD machine
I've got all the drivers accounted for in the device manager section, took a while to do but got there in the end!
Now I want to find a way of:

A few days before I was going to shipping my Studio 15 off. I looked in the box and low and behold I found the Dell Webcam Center disk that I originally thought that Dell had forgotten to include.
Upon installation I found that the specific version of Dell WC that came with my Studio 15 is not the same one that you find at the downloads center on support.dell.com.
I could never get the downloaded Dell WC to work, even after numerous chats with technical support. No matter how many times I contacted Dell about this, they claimed there is only one version of Dell Webcam Center. Clearly that isn't true .....
