is there any possibility to make it dual boot with Windows server 2003 standard edition or Win XP 64 bit? If possible then what are features i won't be able use for above both notebooks.
I got problem with dell laptop, its 2 year old laptop which got stuck on Starting Windows screen ,not able to proceed further.
After checking several posts I tried all the options but it dint work. I tried running diagnostic , I got error message

I run the custom Test and I got this same message .in the custom window where is shows Result I checked the Help tab where I got this message

Disk Drive stores large quantities of computer software and data. The contents of disk drive is preserved when computer is powered off.
Is there any problem with hard disk ?? Is it corrupted ?? Do I need to Replace it ??
I'm thinking of upgrading to windows 8 directly from vista home edition and since the drivers aren't available. So how do I go about it?
View 3 Replies View RelatedAny views on the differences (and value) between HP Envy 15 and HP dv6t Quad Edition?
As far as I can see, with the maximum upgrade options selected below, for an additional ~US$1,300 all the Envy 15 gives you over the dv6t Quad is: 16GB DDR3 RAM instead of 8GB (valued as $500 difference on the Envy 15 customisation page) 1GB ATI Radeon HD 4830 instead of 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M external vs internal optical drive (query whether this is an advantage, weight vs convenience) 1920x1080 instead of 1366x768 display extra 9 cell battery (valued as $125 difference on the Envy 15 customisation page) it's a bit thinner, lighter and 'prettier' What do you think? Is all this really worth $1,300? (Or if you accept the values given by HP of the extra RAM and battery, is $675 a fair price differential for the HD4830, higher display resolution and overall build?)
As a follow-up question, what do you think of these specs generally - or is it worth waiting for further customisation options for the Envy 15 (eg, the dual SSDs in RAID 0 promised by all the HP marketing) and for eventual price drop (when will either of these occur)?
The following specs / upgrade options were used for the above comparison, all from HP Direct, major differences are starred...
Not that I think it makes a big difference but how do you go about installing the sb audigy software that I bought with my XPS?
I have the disc that came with the laptop but when I go to install it says "no drivers found, please install drivers then run this setup program again"
Right before I used my recovery partition on the Envy 6 i bought less than a month ago, I tried setting group policy in order to take control of my Administrator account. I got an error message: "Group Policy is not a feature of this edition of Windows 8.1."
I have experienced security issues My Envy 6 (in my opinion, nothing to envy about it...) since I got it.
What happens, first and foremost, is that someone other than I hijacks my computer and starts using my machine as a distributed resource. When I look at the resource monitor, memory usage stays at a steady level around 30%; the Window for the disk (Disk 0, I presume) stays at about 100%, for many minutes after I start working. There is evidence that copies of the countless Apps are being pushed through that channel to someone unknown to me.
In other words, it is as if I were working in a large company where administrators are able to share my computers memory and storage (and also, copies of programs on my machine) with others.
Yesterday, the fourth time I used my security partition, (after I had looked in the Task Manager and seen more than 50 tasks scheduled to run only when the machine was idle and it was on AC power) I decided to see what would happen if I let the fully charged battery work.
What I saw was a machine freaking out. I saw a sequence of screen shots first four, then a flash of a task checklist, then a series what looked like screen shots again--this time fourteen of them. I watched this happen three different times. Then, the machine prompted me for a "Capital A Administrator" password, which I did not have.
I looked around at resources here and at Windows, and discovered that I could access boot options by turning on the machine and pressing the Escape key. I ran through the list of options there, and finally chose EFI, where I eventually dsicovered two different ways to boot to an unknown internet address. That's when decided another tip to Geek Squad was in order (I bought their service contact when i bought the machine, what the heck). This time there was pretty much incontrovertible evidence that something was wrong at the Internet security level.
I realized this is way to much information. I will simply once again ask the question: Is it possible that my brand new machine really does have an edition of Windows 8.1 that doesn't include the capability for group Policy management?
should i just install it, and then use the drivers from the drivers disc and then update, and this it?
any programs that dell has that it is recommended to NOT install?

I have an HP ENVY dv6t-7200 CTO Quad Edition Notebook. I recently had a complete system failure and had to reinstall the Windows 8.1 operating system. Naturally, I lost most of my programs (which I have reinstalled). However, I can't seem to get mt fingerprint scanner to work. I've re-installed the SimplePass software as well as the divers. I tried a hard reset and reinstalled the current validity sensor drive. I still can't seem to get the fingerprint reader to come alive.

I tried to downgrade my OS to Windows 7 Pro. I prefer in UEFI installation, so create a OS installation USB in UEFI mode in GPT partition and enabled legacy in BIOS. Then the installer is booting from the USB device and everything is going well till it reaches to the HDD partition window. I can't see my HDD on the installer window. I already have a HDD with 4 visible partition, C (OS), D (Data), E (Recovery) and 100 MB system in FAT 32. i want to format only my C, because D contains all my data backup. I tried to browse intel Storage driver, still it is not detecting my HDD.
I really want to switch back to Windows 7 Pro.
When I downgraded from win 8.1 to win 7 I noticed there were about 11 items with problems being displayed in Device Manager. These ranged form network and ethernet to PCI , USB and various others. NVIDIA indicated it could not load until the Intel stuff had loaded first. That wasn't in DM, it cropped up when I attempted to load some of the drivers manually.
I really don't want to guess at what's gone wrong here but could if have something to do with hardware set up for win 8 being used with win 7 drivers etc?
Would it be straight forward to clean install windows 7 on to my HP ENVY m6-1205sa? Will all the drivers be found easily and will all the HP software be easy to install like HP Advisor, fn key control, simple pass, cool sense, drive guard and the like?

Currently the HDD partitioned as:
110MB (EISA Config), FAT16 Pri
10GB, RECOVERY (D:), NTFS Pri
136GB, OS (C:), NTFS Pri Act
2.5GB MEDIADIRECT, FAT32
Discs supplied with laptop: Vista Reinstall DVD, Dell Drivers & Utilities, Roxio, Dell MediaDirect
What I want is to do a clean Vista install to the OS (C:) partition (formatting it), but still keep the other partitions in case I have to resell my notebook. My main concern is not being able to restore the factory image back to C .....
why is my installation of vista freezing on the last step? its either freezing or taking a very long time. its been at the last step for about 20 minutes so far. It did this last time i tried to do a clean install with a dell disc without knowing about installing vista on hp machine with a dell disc. but now i have used vlite and made a anytime upgrade disc and took out the tell stuff according to this tut. the green progress bar isn't moving either. at the bottom of the screen where it says the upgrade may take several hours to complete, my screen doesn't have that.

I have ran all windows updates and tried several different drivers. I put the old HD in with W8 and it works so it isn't a hardware issue. I originally looked at this post before doing the downgrade and it gave me the confidence to move forward with putting Win7 on. I have until Friday to take this back to the store if I can't get it working. I have also checked the region/language settings.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased a brand new HP 15-d035dx laptop as a Bundle from BestBuy. Pre-installed with Windows8.1 OS (my first time using it) and i immediately rejected it and decided to install my copy of Windows 7 Pro. I took all the necessary steps into successfully installing Windows 7. Disabling Secure Boot and Enabling Legacy Mode. I cleaned my partitions through Clean Diskpart. I had all the drivers i needed for Windows 7 saved onto a CD knowing my USB and WiFI drives won't work. I have only been able to install the Drivers for the sound, mouse and internet. Everything else fails, so I entered BIOS and I have very limited options to mess around with and I noticed something. It shows default OS is Win8.1 and my heart dropped. This meant that everything I just did was for absolutely nothing. But I am not taking no for an answer. There must be a way to override this issue and get Windows 7 working perfectly with no problems.

I had a problem with my old windows vista, and cannot restart windows. I put in a brand new 500hd. The windows 7 goes through the whole install procedure, but the last step "completing installation", it does not complete, but locks up. I have tried several times, and even removed the cd before the final restart, to have it search the HD for start-up soft ware, as I have read, but nothing works.
