I have a HP Envy M6-1158ca, and recently my Built-in display stopped working. I plugged it into an external display via HDMI and it showed no input. It seems as though the laptop is not booting into Windows either, as usually whenever my laptop boots into windows, the fingerprint scanner blinks letting me know I can now sign in using it. I am extremely frustrated with this, and have an unbelievable amount of stress because this was my only PC.

I am looking to purchase a HP 15 f003dx and I would like to add memory to it immediately. Â I just want to verify that I can add memory to this laptop. Â It comes with 4GB and I would like to kickit up to 8 by adding 4GB in the 2nd DIMM slot. Â I have read several reviews that stated that the memory could not be updated. Â Can I add to the already existing 4GB or memory on this latpop?

I was hoping the nice people here could help me. I was wondering how many fans are in an M1730? Is it more than just what's on the GPU? I was also looking for those little rubber screw covers on the LCD front bezel.
Does anyone know where to buy them? I currently own an M1710 and I know there are also 2 plastic screw covers on the LCD. Is it the same with the M1730?

I just bought a Macbook Pro (8 days ago) with iLife 2008 on it. I contacted Apple and they said an email with a link to download the update file would be sent. Anyone have similar experiences regarding updates ?

I have been looking for a device that functions both as a NAS and a print server for a USB printer. My printer (and NAS-to-be) are in a different room than my current wireless router. I have a Windows 7 - based PC.
So...
I would like to be able to connect the Time Capsule to my existing wireless network.
I would like to be able to back up files over the wireless network (probably using Windows 7's included backup software).
I would like to be able to print over the wireless network. My printer is a Samsung ML-2510 printer.
Can I do this with a Time Capsule?

System - HP Envy14-1200 Beats Edition Notebook PC Series - Product # XQ103AV. Â It came pre-installed Windows 7.
Â
Error message "We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. Â See the setup log file" appears during fresh installation of Windows 8.0.
Â
MS Windows 8 installation DVD detects the hard drive OK.
Mini Tool Partition software (3rd party) detects the hard drive OK.
Â
Both Windows 8 DVD and MiniTool software detects the disk partition and its formated OK, but the error message appears to prevent it from installation.
Â
These are steps that I tried to resolve the problem, but it won't work.
Â
1. Used Microsoft Windows 8 DVD diskpart to clean HD, partition and format........still get the same error message.
2. Used Microsoft Windows 8 DVD diskpart to clean HD and partition....................still get the same error message.
3. Used MiniTool Partition software to clean HD, partition and format........still get the same error message.
4. Used MiniTool Partition software to clean HD and partition....................still get the same error message.
5. Purchased a new hard drive repeat step 1 - 4 and I got the ......same error message.
Â
Background
I upgraded to Windows 8 from Windows 7 and it worked for a 2 month, then I upgraded to Windows 8.1. After the system is upgraded and rebooted, the screen turn black. Â So I decided to re-install Windows 8.0. There is no SIM/SD card in the laptop.

beats edition as compared to the envy 15 version.
1. What reason is there for the 800 dollar difference in price other than the beats headphones?
2.Does the back of the case only have the beats logo on it or is there any type of laser etching like on the original envy.

I want to see specifically what people think about the two laptops. How is the sound card built into the z

I am considering to buy either a Dell Studio XPS 16 or a HP Envy 15, and I have a question about the HP Envy 15.
I noticed there are two versions of the HP Envy 15, one is HP Envy 15-1190eo and the other one is 15-1195eo. Is there any significant difference (or any difference at all?) between these two except that the 1195 have more RAM and a SSD? The price difference in my country is almost 1000 euro.

I've got a great offer for buying a used 1st generation Envy 15, dirt cheap.
However, I was wondering if heat management and battery life has improved with driver- and BIOS updates over time.
In short, has any of the points of criticism that the Envy originally received been improved with driver and BIOS updates?

I'm shopping for laptops right now and I'm pretty much stuck between these two. My main question for the 14 is will it be able to do full hd? I know 1920x1080 is a bit much to ask for on a 14.5" screen but I haven't been able to find a solid answer for this question. The 14 has more features and the internal cd drive is a plus, but not a dealbreaker for the 15 since the cd drive isn't used too much. Taking out price, which one would be a better buy?

I have a couple of questions about the Envy v2. I'm certain the answers are somewhere in the massive owner's thread but it's way too long to want to go through at this point.
My questions are:
1) Audio quality of external speakers. Is there enough bass in them? Do they sound "tin-y"?
2) Noise from the fan when the GPU is in high use. How loud is the fan? Has anyone put a decibel meter to it?
3) Temp of the GPU. My Studio 15 is hitting a high of 70c when running and was wondering how the newer ATI is.

The first I heard about the Envy line was that it was a gorgeous laptop with a great display and above-average speakers. However, it was fundamentally flawed with a horrible trackpad and overheating issues(present in the 13, but further aggravated in the 15). After the spectacular fail of a release, I dropped the Envy out of consideration.
To the present, I've recently started looking at a huge array of laptops and have taken the Envy into consideration again. From what I've heard, the Envy 15 is in its second generation(I need a full-HD laptop and won't be considering the Envy 13). It now comes equipped with a i5 processor and the HD5830.............

The palms with fingers do not show up and now afer disabling all the options I attempted to enable windows logon again but it says tha the passord is wrong an it is not. On top of this under biometric devices it says I do not have a finger print reader.

I have a two week old HP Envy 15 laptop running Windows 8.1. Today I plugged my cell phone into the laptop to sync my music and the phone was NOT recognized as a device. Then my logitech mouse and keyboard immediately stopped working. They work via a mini usb bluetooth. I tried rebooting and that didn't fix the problem. I checked the device manager and some usb devices were showing yellow. They were

I rebooted into diagnostics and tested each USB port and it said the USB ports were fine. Rebooted again and still nothing was working. I followed the steps to uninstall the devices and then reboot, and nothing happened except now the bad devices are listed as "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" and "Unknown Device". I've tried reinstalling the driver to no avail. The HP and Intel sites don't have a driver package for Windows 8.1 that works. The HP Intel Chipset Installation Utility does not install properly - "An unknown error occurred. Setup will exit"I checked the event logs and they had a few events about the "pointer device". "A pointer device reported a bad angular logical range", "A pointer device reported a bad angular physical range", and "A pointer device did not report a valid unit of angular measurement".At this point, the ports allow power though, but still won't connect anything plugged into them. Is this just a plain hardware failure or is there something more I can do to get this working without having to send the laptop back?

as im sure some of you are aware i ordered the laptop in my sig, and t has been stuck in pre-production for too long now, im getting conflicting answers from Dell about my order and i sick of it.
So im thinking of ordering a HP Envy 15 from amazon (ill have it 2-3 days after ordering!!!!) not 2-3 weeks!!
It has a better graphics card 4830 vs 4670, it also has the i7-720qm rather than the i5 i ordered however it doesnt have a full HD screen...
So i have a few questions before i decide to cancel my dell order and get the envy!
1. Are there any issues with the Envy laptops i should now about (eg. throttling with the XPS16s!)
2. When do Dell charge for ordering? I ordered through work and will have more trouble cancelling if they have already taken payment...
3. How much hassle is cancelling with Dell?
4. How much better is the ATI 4830 rather than the 4670?
5. Is 1366x768 resolution high enough?! For gaming and/or general use?

How does the 1/6 GHz processor stack up against the more traditional core duo? Is it roughly equal to a 2.53 GHz processor? I love windows 7 and might trade my Macbook Pro for one.

I have been reading about the Envy 15 (as I'm getting closer to buying it). However, one thing that concerns me is regarding the temperatures.
So, how hot does it get?
Most likely, I'll be getting the dual SSD rig. For anyone who owns that, how hot does it get for you?
My setup is looking like the i7-820, 8GB RAM, 5830, dual-SSD. I have thought about going to the 16GB RAM option as well, though I doubt I need it.

I need to connect my HP Envy 15 to my TV`s VGA port, and I'm looking for the best alternative. This is because I only get a stretched picture when I connect it to the DVI port through a HDMI > DVI-adapter.
HP has an official HDMI -> VGA adapter. What's people experience with that? Perfect? Problems? I see that Envy 15 is not listed as a supported model for it, but does that matter?
