I have a Envy Spectre 14" with Win 8.0. For the last month or so I have sound disappearing (totally) at random times. Rebooting has generally solved the problem...but that can be a pain if I'm in the middle of a lot of projects. It was working this morn....closed the lid...opened it 30 min later and NO sound.
View 1 RepliesMy 3 month old t430s has a major issue with the audio/sound. At completely random times, I will have no sound for a matter of minutes or hours. This is primarily with web software and persists across multiple browsers.
- The speakers all test and the troubleshooting tests say they are working just fine. Occasionally, when testing the speakers, the control panel will give an error stating that they are in use by another program and that program needs to be shut down before they can be tested.
- all drivers are up to date and have recently been uninstalled and reinstalled
- the default audio device is set to the appropriate speakers
- I have had this problem with and without the Dolby Advanced Equalizer driver that comes as an optional sound update
- I have had sporadic luck with plugging in headphones, but often this does not give me any audio either.
I have the HP Spectre 13-3010ea and I cannot get any sound from my hdmi. Only picture!
When I plug in the hdmi going to my tv i still get "Not plugged in" in sound settings...
I've been having an annoying problem with my notebook's audio. Quite often, when I turn on my pc, my audio disappears after a couple of minutes. Sometimes there's no sound right from the start. The mute button stops working, because normally there's an orange light when you turn off the pc sound, well that doesn't happen anymore. Windows Media Player can only play such formats as mp4, avi etc with no sound in the background.
However, it can't open mp3 files at all (error message shows up). Videos on websites such as youtube stop playing after a few seconds (although the buffer is still running, and of course there is no sound). So basically, there's no type of audio coming from the speaker (like error sound, message sound, command sounds etc...) I tried connecting headphones and external speakers, but no luck. I updated my audio driver, but it didn't work.
Furthermore, when I launch audio test from Control Panel, an error message shows up which says "Device currently used by another application. Please close all the applications that are using the device, and retry."
My notebook is quite new. It's an "HP Pavilion 15 - e070sl"....
I have an HP Pavilion Sleekbook Touchsmart 14-B132TX. My sound disappeared while I was working using it about a month ago. I phoned HP Hotline and the Tech Support told me to just uninstall it from Device Manager and upon restart, the driver will install automatically. Which I did.
The sound did come back but again it disappeared after about 15 minutes of use, so I called tech support again and they gave me links to HP Support for drivers to download and install which I did and restarted the computer and the sound came back again. BUT AGAIN, the sound disappeared. I phoned tech support and they told me to just do a system restore which I did and the sound came back again. But it again disappeared after about just 7 minutes of use.
These are the drivers I installed from HP's website: sp60642, sp64082, sp60464 and sp64031. After so many reinstallation of drivers. I cleaned my notebook with CCleaner and went to HP Support Assistant in the hope of getting a solution, there was an instruction there to download the QUALCOMM Atheros driver, and I installed again the said driver..The sound reappeared after restarting. AND AGAIN, it disappeared after just using the laptop for just about 3 minutes. This laptop is quite new, just bought it 10 months ago. I'm using the Windows 8 OS.
it happened two times today, the screen went totally black, the fans stop working and the "sleep lights" turned on and off. Soon after the disc drive made the sound that id usually makes when turning the computer on.

I use my laptop almost everyday, and it has been fine up until today. I have an HP Envy dv4. I rarely shut it down--I usually just close the lid and leave it like that until I'm ready to use it again. Today, when I opened it and logged in, I went to Youtube. However, no sound will play. I didn't have this problem the last time I used the PC, and can't figure out what's wrong. I don't have any sound with headphones plugged in, and I don't have any sound when I try to use just the PC speakers.
I've already made sure the sound is definitely on--I have muted it and unmuted it several times, raised and lowered the volume by using the f9 and f10 keys, and nothing happens. I've tried playing media that is stored on my PC, and no sound there either. I've also tried using Rosetta Stone, and it won't open because it says it can't find any sound output.
I have restarted the computer several times, scanned for viruses, and scanned for updates. Nothing has worked.
I have a problem with my HP ENVY m6 laptop (Running Windows 8) regarding sound on my headphones. Just as recent as today, when I plugged in my headphones no sound came through. I tried another pair, but got the same result. This laptop is only about 4 and a half months old (Got it in mid-January), and this is a real bummer.

It happens with every song. I downloaded the new sound drivers but the problem is still there. I read about this problem in other types of envy laptops but I did not see anything regarding my particular laptop.

My Windows 8.1 Envy m6 is not playing sound through either the internal or external speakers.
I have tried the following fixes with the following results:
1) run troubleshooter - audio services not running. Unable to start it; error states endpoint is duplicate
2) update drivers - no fix (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC - 6.10.6433.0)
3) Change System Sounds - fails to play test tone
4) Device Manager - shows the system is running
5) Restore - no fix
I've recently noticed a problem with my PC's speakers not working. I'm not entirely sure what causes them to stop working, but if I remember correctly, the first time I remember it happening was after I had my computer plugged into the TV via an HDMI cable. Since then, the speakers seem to come and go. I think restarting my computer usually brings them back, but I was curious if there was another way to fix them other than that and if I could do something to keep this from happening in the future. Also, I'm interested in finding out why this is happening to my PC.

I'm currently using an HP Spectre XT 13-2201tu Ultrabook (purchased in Indonesia), it came with Windows8 operating system. But due to my company policy, I've to down graded the O/S to Windows7 Professional.
I just realized that one of the PCI-to-PCI Bridge device was not working properly, the PCI device driver not installed.
I've tried to search the driver in HP support and download for Indonesia, but cannot find any Windows7 Drivers.
My tv tuner INTEX IT-TV 150 FM plays only audio. The screen turns totaly white with no video signal. When calling the supporting staff at INTEX, they told me to install HP Pavilion dv4 video driver. Could this be the solution? If so, where could I find the video driver?

I have uninstalled/re-installed the driver, rebooted, and still no sound. When I right-click Speakers/HP, and Test - the pop-up says Device in Use. There are no legit applications using the device. I have been running Windows Defender since I used the official HP Recovery Discs I ordered. I have not visited questionable websites, yet, it looks like I have malware?
I use an HP ENVY M6 notebook running Windows 8.1, 64 bit. I was seeing a lot of unwanted popups telling me I needed Java or other add ons which I don't. The computer is less than a month old. I went to that day's downloads and deleted everything I found from that day. Since then, I have no sound. I probably deleted something but I thought I was pretty careful. Can I download a sound card?

There is no sound working on my HP and when I try to test it there is a window that shows up saying there is another program running even though I just started up the laptop. The icon on the computer for volume also will not "mute" when I push the button to mute it.
A few days ago I updated from the Windows 8.1 evaluation to the full 8.1 release and since then my audio has not been working. In the control panel, "Digital Display Audio (AMD High Definition Audio Device)" is listed as unplugged. The audio icon on the taskbar is Xed out and clicking it runs the error finder in vain. Speakers no longer show up in the device listing although now that nothing is working I'm not sure if they ever did or if audio just came through Digital Display Audio. Headphones do not show up as playback devices and the volume controls on the keyboard and taskbar are inaccessible.
I have never used external speakers. The Windows 8.1 update seemed to wipe all of my HP and AMD software that came with the laptop so I reinstalled the HP Support Center and searched for driver updates and all that jive but everything shows as up to date. I don't know what else to look for as most of the forums I've seen seem to be talking about their HDMI out sound not working when plugged into a TV and I'm just trying to have sound, period.

My notebook restarted itself to make updates, once i logged on i found that the sound is not working on music files, web pages etc. other than the windows sound. The other thing i noticed is that the mute button will not go off or on? i tried to troubleshoot but nothing..I found that left clicking my sound icon and clicking on playback devices and then left clicking speakers and headphones and clicking 'Test' led to a pop up; "Device in Use.The device is being used by another application. any devices that are playing audio to this device and try again." I have checked everywhere but i can't find the device being used anywhere? I'm not willing to lose by Beats Audio.
