HP Pavilion Dv9700 :: Won't Power On - 3 Blinks From Battery LED
Nov 19, 2009
My HP Pavilion dv9700 laptop died suddenly while I was using it, and I have been unable to get it to power on since. I've tried everything I can think of to bring it back to life. With the battery seated, whether or not the laptop is connected to AC power, pressing the power button causes the Battery LED (lightning bolt) to blink 3 times, and then nothing. Pressing either of the QuickPlay buttons (which would normally power it up) causes the same 3-blink result. If the laptop is connected to AC power, the ring around the power connector lights up. This is the only other response the machine shows to any action.
I've tried a Hard Reset (removing AC and battery, then holding the power button for 30+ seconds), unfortunately nothing changed. I've also reseated the hard drives and memory modules, and tried booting with each of the memory modules alone, in turn. No change. Thinking the problem might be a faulty power adapter (as reported by another dv9700 owner with this problem), I purchased a brand new "HP NOTEBOOK 90W SMART AC ADAPTER" (p/n KG298AA#ABA) and tried using it to power the laptop. No change, still the same 3-blink response when I attempt to turn it on.When I remove the battery completely and attempt to turn the laptop on (connected to AC power), nothing happens at all -- not even the 3-blink response from the Battery LED.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5010 laptop, the power light (light on the power button) and the left front LED white light blinks every 5 seconds. It doesn't power on at all.
I have a g7 1113eo. that wont start up. the battery has been dead for a while, but its been working fine with just the adapter. But yesterday it wouldnt start up anymore, i tried doing the hardware reset (remove battery and hold power button for 15/30secs) but that didnt work, then i started disassembling it but stopped when I found out I didn't have a fitting screwdriver. then pressed the power button again just to check, and the pc started. was a fluke though cause i tried rebooting and it didnt start again. Whenever i press the power button, the small led next to the power plug, blinks 3 times. no sound or other led´s blinking. (The warranty is no longer valid)....
My Dell Inspiron 15 will not boot up. Started randomly shutting down over a week period. Would also display a plaid screen which would require a hard shut down by me. I was trying to run Dell diagnostics on it and noted that the video card failed, but it could not complete the diagnostic without shutting down. Now the power supply light blinks on and off in a 10 second interval. It acts like it has no power, but I know the battery was charged.
The laptop is just over a year old, and does not power up at all. This started a couple of weeks ago. At first the LED light would blink orange a few times when the laptop was switched on, but nothing else happened. Then it might just start up, and while booting up the battery light would blink and it would switch off .
I did try removing the battery etc. to discharge of the mainboard as advised, but no difference. I have tried other sockets, same result. I have now left it unplugged for a few days and there is not even the orange light any more.
I have recently bought a T400. At the moment, it is running on Windows XP, Service Pack 3.
After installation of Windows XP, I have installed all the relevant drivers and no yellow question marks appear in the Device Manager panel. However, during the process of installing these drivers, now whenever I plug in our take out the AC Power Plug, the screen goes blank for about a second and then comes back.
This problem was NOT there immediately after installing Windows XP and Service Pack 3, i.e. before installing the drivers. I think that it is one particular driver which may have caused this.
I have already tried re-installing the Graphic Driver.
My envy 15 1060ea notebook recently turned itself off when i was 1-0 up against Real Madrid on Football Manager with Hearts (true!) and will not power back up.
I performed a hard reset, now when I press the power button the charging light next to the AC power input blinks 3 times (which according to HP customer support webpages indicates a problem with the RAM)...
SO...I opened her up and replaced both RAM modules with brand new ones, done another hard reset and IM STILL GETTING 3 BLINKING LIGHTS and no start u.
I have an Acer Aspire V3 551 8469. It is out of warranty. The indicator power light blinks 4 to 5 times and nothing happens after. I got adventurous and opened it up. I replaces the cord that receives the power coupling from the ac. Still not working. I was told it could be the motherboard but there is no guarantee that is the issue. If it is the mother board I will just have to get one and put it in.
I bought a new lenovo Z50-70 this month. Is is having i5 processor, 1tb hdd, 4gb ram. I really like this lappy but i am dissatisfied with the display. It is having a full hd display but it is blinking only when running on battery.I also dont know whether others facing the same issue or not.
When I turn my laptop on, the blue light on the power on button lights for 6 seconds, meanwhile the led near the power plug on right side rapidly blinks 13 times. Always exactly 13 times, so it must be some kind of error code. Then laptop shuts down. Nothing is heard, neither fan, neither hard disk.
I have a acer 1414 notebook, when i plug it in and try to get it to post the battery light blinks orange around 8 times, and then stops. i get no beeps, other other lights,.
When I pull the power cord to switch to battery power while in Windows my lcd goes to black. The only way I get my video back is a hard reset and reboot. Later on I tried this and everything was back to normal. Why is this happening? Is this some weird standby?
Acer 5253 - Will not power on, battery or on AC power. Have tried all the suggested solutions but none have worked. Is it possible to get maintenace instructions (disassembly, where certain items are located, etc)?
After replacing the fan, I have a power up issue with the laptop. Basically, the laptop will only power on with the power cable disconnected at the motherboard. It was by mistake that after the fan was replaced and everything was put back together, that I noticed that the battery was not charging.
I then reopened the machine and reconnected the power cable to the motherboard and nothing - no power.
When plugging in the power source with the battery in place, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE then stays ORANGE and will not power up. No other lights, no fan noise, nothing.
If I remove the battery, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE and stays white however will not power up either. Same agin, no other LEDs, not fan noise, nothing.
I have now opened the machine back up and disconnected the power from the motherboard. Put it all back together and the laptop powers up as normal with the battery and it works fine. (Well until the battery runs out anyway).
I have an HP Pavillion DV9700 that for some reason will shut itself down for no reason and reboot, sometimes it may run for 2-3 minutes and sometimes 20 minutes but it doesnt give you any error except on bootup it has the windows wasnt shutdown properly. Sad but Funny I have an HP ZE4325US and it started doing the same thing last year, what the crap is the chance of buying two HP's and both end up with the same issue? Checked everything and my only thought now is the MB,
I have a dv9700 that I have owned for over a year and recently upgraded to Windows 7 (about a month ago.) I was happy with how everything was working until suddenly today when I went to turn on my laptop it appeared the screen was dead...upon looking closer I realized that the backlight was off. I could barely make out anything on the screen but it did have an error message stating that Windows failed to boot and gave the option of repairing the system. I went through this "startup repair" utility (still no working backlight) and got my computer to boot up. Everything seems to run normally now except the backlight is still not functioning most of the time (at the moment I have the screen balanced just right so that it is on.) I had a similar problem with my screen about half a year ago but the laptop was still under warranty at the time so HP replaced the screen for free...not the case this time unfortunately I seem to remember reading that flashing the BIOS can solve a problem like this, however there is apparently no support for Windows 7 through HP Support's software and drivers page (I tried installing the latest version of winflash for my laptop...vista 64 bit but got an error message saying it was not compatible with my system)
So My DV9700 has died. I've read MANY threads across the internet about this issue as well as there being a suit against nvidia for bad chips. Of course my laptop is out of warranty which leaves me with an interesting option. Rather than paying HP to fix it and waiting weeks for the laptop to be returned I'm doing it myself. Not a problem except for needing the parts.
I spent most of the afternoon searching google with no luck but maybe someone here has a parts catalog with the answer. Other than crossing my fingers that an oem replacement board will survive is there an aftermarket option or a company that sells a modified board with extra heat sinks or something?
I am having some strange problems with the backlight on my dv9700...I started a thread about this maybe 2 months ago but the backlight for whatever reason started working again and I didn't have too many issues with it until recently. Lately the backlight has only been working when it is plugged in...If I unplug it but leave the lid open it still works but as soon as I close the lid and open it again its out until I plug it back in and open and close the lid. Now I can't get the backlight to work at all except it lights up for 2 seconds or so upon closing and opening the lid. I removed the display bezel to access the display inverter and check for any loose or damaged connectors but they all appear to be fine...unplugging and plugging the display panel cable connector back in also causes the backlight to work for 2 seconds and then go out again. Besides the backlight issue the laptop seems to be working perfectly fine...can anyone help me figure this out? I should mention that I upgraded this laptop to Windows 7 right away when it was released.
There was an update for F.58 bios on hp's driver site. It was F.59.A Well I used the win flash utility and the program verified my bios and went with the update. All good until the pc shut off. The quick lauch row of buttons along with the power button were on, the fan going full speed and the little light next to the caps lock button was flashing on and off. I gave it about 5 min and noticed nothing was progressing. So I tried holding down the power button to force it off and all it did was reset the lights and came right back on. I couldn't even get it to shut down without removing the battery.
So I tried the suggestion of pulling the battery out, holding the power button down for 30 sec and plug everything back it....nope. soon as I put the battery in it automatically turns the pc on, don't even have to push the start button.
I'm guessing this had something to do with a bad bios update and if so is there another way to get it back to default bios. I talked to HP chat.....what a nightmare....and it took me 30 min to tell who ever that i couldnt shut down the pc or get into setup when the guy kept repeating "Once you see hp logo hit F10...." um ....I can't get to that rtard that's what i've been telling you as you read you card in front of you. Then told me it would be 400 bucks to have it picked up and fixed...ya right for a bad update caused by hp in the first place.
I have a problem with my dv9700. When I try to turn it on, it lights up in the small blue LED's, but then reboots even before I see the BIOS booting, this it keeps on doing again and again.
I've come to the conclusion that it's some kind of hardware failure, but exactly which one it is, I don't know. I tried switching out the RAM but with no luck. Anyone here have a suggestion to what to do?
I have A LOT of very important data on the PC and I off cause have taken backups, but not recently.
I am running WindowsVista on an HP Pavillion DV9700 laptop.
Is this a software or hardware issue and how do I turn the darn thing off? It's so loud that if I'm concentrating on something else it's startles the heck out of everyone in the room.
how to get an external monitor working with a HP DV9700 laptop? The screen is cracked and it's totally white, so I'm unable to do anything through the BIOS, desktop, etc.
I've tried Fn-f4 and every other f button combination.
The laptop is plugged into the mains, so there should be sufficient power for an external monitor.
I've also re-booted the laptop with the monitor connected and switched on.
There is no option to switch on the laptop with the lid closed, due to the position of the on-off switch.
The laptop is not networked, so I can't access the hard drive any other way.
I try it without the battery (not sure why?), but that didn't work either.
I have an HP DV9700 notbook and water got spilled on the keyboard. I turned the notebook off immediately and unplugged it. Then let it dry for a day. The next day I turned it on and now when I press some keys the wrong thing happens such as when I press backspace Internet Explorer will switch to full screen or when I press the spacebar it will do a space and put a period in the spelling.
I have a HP DV9700 laptop that I bought about 1 and half year ago. The RAMS need to be replaced, and what's the maximum RAM speed (The Mhz, not the amount of GB) can I use in this laptop?
The old one was PC5300 667 Mhz 2 x 2GB RAM
Can I use PC6400 RAM? because It's more easily available than the old PC5300.
I have a hp laptop 9843cl with 64 bit vista. it crashes randomly quite often. It says "IRQL less than or equal to" and near the end writes NETw5v64.sys and some other numbers. This is related to Intel wireless driver link 4965AGN.
I tried many things, memory check, hard drive check, drivee update check.
the volume button, next to the volume slider on my laptop stopped working. After checking postings that I found, was able to resolve the volume on/off issue, by shutting down the PC,unplug and take the battery out and put it back in. I still cannot get the volume slider to work! I can go into the sound mixer and control the volume, but it would be nice to make it work again. I had this problem with the original OS (Vista) and have upgraded to 7 Ultimate and it still continues.
I recently caught a virus after accidentally typing faceboo k. cm instead of faceboo k. com in IE but Avast was able to take care of it. However, after restarting my HP laptop, I was unable to go into windows and it says there's a problem with startup or winload(I forgot). I used the repair startup 5 times, but to no avail. (I'm not sure if the virus is the cause of my problem).
So, I decided to use the Vista recovery DVDs and reformatted the C drive. I put the CD and HP automatically reformatted the windows partition of my drive. After it's done, the laptop was restarted and a dialog box that says "Software is being installed" appeared and there was a progress bar. But, it restarted again before the progress bar has a chance to complete. And after the laptop is restarted, the system says "BootMGR" is missing please restart using ctr alt del. After I restarted it again, a dialog box saying the recovery has failed appear. I tried this twice and failed both. The details of the error say something about QFE is missing or something.
FYI, the last time I used the Recovery cd I was brought to a blue screen (if I'm not wrong) where I can repartition, delete, or create partitions before formatting the drives. This time, I was unable to repartition or delete the drive, I was brought straight to reformating. And I was unable to use the Recovery Disk in the system; I pressed F11 and nothing happened.
My dell xps L502x turned off suddenly and now wont start at all. On pressing the power button, its light blinks once so does the light of the CD rom blinks just once thats it, no display, no keyboard lights, just the blinking of the power button and cd rom! is it about the hard disk or my motherboard or the memory modules, or the graphic card???
