HP/Compaq :: HP Dv9700 Rebooting Even Before Booting BIOS
May 31, 2010
I have a problem with my dv9700. When I try to turn it on, it lights up in the small blue LED's, but then reboots even before I see the BIOS booting, this it keeps on doing again and again.
I've come to the conclusion that it's some kind of hardware failure, but exactly which one it is, I don't know. I tried switching out the RAM but with no luck.
Anyone here have a suggestion to what to do?
I have A LOT of very important data on the PC and I off cause have taken backups, but not recently.

There was an update for F.58 bios on hp's driver site. It was F.59.A
Well I used the win flash utility and the program verified my bios and went with the update. All good until the pc shut off. The quick lauch row of buttons along with the power button were on, the fan going full speed and the little light next to the caps lock button was flashing on and off. I gave it about 5 min and noticed nothing was progressing. So I tried holding down the power button to force it off and all it did was reset the lights and came right back on. I couldn't even get it to shut down without removing the battery.
So I tried the suggestion of pulling the battery out, holding the power button down for 30 sec and plug everything back it....nope. soon as I put the battery in it automatically turns the pc on, don't even have to push the start button.
I'm guessing this had something to do with a bad bios update and if so is there another way to get it back to default bios. I talked to HP chat.....what a nightmare....and it took me 30 min to tell who ever that i couldnt shut down the pc or get into setup when the guy kept repeating "Once you see hp logo hit F10...." um ....I can't get to that rtard that's what i've been telling you as you read you card in front of you. Then told me it would be 400 bucks to have it picked up and fixed...ya right for a bad update caused by hp in the first place.

I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC and after updating my bios from F.22 to F.24 the computer wont boot into Vista. It was completed successfully using the winflash, but the computer restarted it just stays at a black screen, and wont go any further. (I hope bios is not corrupted.)
The computer is on but its not booting the operating system.
Is there any way I can revert to the old bios?
Also is there any key combination that can get it to load BIOS from a USB flash drive?

I have an HP Pavillion DV9700 that for some reason will shut itself down for no reason and reboot, sometimes it may run for 2-3 minutes and sometimes 20 minutes but it doesnt give you any error except on bootup it has the windows wasnt shutdown properly. Sad but Funny I have an HP ZE4325US and it started doing the same thing last year, what the crap is the chance of buying two HP's and both end up with the same issue? Checked everything and my only thought now is the MB,

if a dv7 keyboard would be interchangable with a dv9700? I like the look of the dv7 and think the keyboard would look great in my dv9700.

I have a dv9700 that I have owned for over a year and recently upgraded to Windows 7 (about a month ago.) I was happy with how everything was working until suddenly today when I went to turn on my laptop it appeared the screen was dead...upon looking closer I realized that the backlight was off. I could barely make out anything on the screen but it did have an error message stating that Windows failed to boot and gave the option of repairing the system. I went through this "startup repair" utility (still no working backlight) and got my computer to boot up. Everything seems to run normally now except the backlight is still not functioning most of the time (at the moment I have the screen balanced just right so that it is on.) I had a similar problem with my screen about half a year ago but the laptop was still under warranty at the time so HP replaced the screen for free...not the case this time unfortunately I seem to remember reading that flashing the BIOS can solve a problem like this, however there is apparently no support for Windows 7 through HP Support's software and drivers page (I tried installing the latest version of winflash for my laptop...vista 64 bit but got an error message saying it was not compatible with my system)

So My DV9700 has died. I've read MANY threads across the internet about this issue as well as there being a suit against nvidia for bad chips.
Of course my laptop is out of warranty which leaves me with an interesting option. Rather than paying HP to fix it and waiting weeks for the laptop to be returned I'm doing it myself. Not a problem except for needing the parts.
I spent most of the afternoon searching google with no luck but maybe someone here has a parts catalog with the answer. Other than crossing my fingers that an oem replacement board will survive is there an aftermarket option or a company that sells a modified board with extra heat sinks or something?

I am having some strange problems with the backlight on my dv9700...I started a thread about this maybe 2 months ago but the backlight for whatever reason started working again and I didn't have too many issues with it until recently. Lately the backlight has only been working when it is plugged in...If I unplug it but leave the lid open it still works but as soon as I close the lid and open it again its out until I plug it back in and open and close the lid. Now I can't get the backlight to work at all except it lights up for 2 seconds or so upon closing and opening the lid. I removed the display bezel to access the display inverter and check for any loose or damaged connectors but they all appear to be fine...unplugging and plugging the display panel cable connector back in also causes the backlight to work for 2 seconds and then go out again. Besides the backlight issue the laptop seems to be working perfectly fine...can anyone help me figure this out? I should mention that I upgraded this laptop to Windows 7 right away when it was released.

Why Do I Keep Hearing This Loud Bell
I keep hearing this loud bell at 8 am and 8 pm.
I am running WindowsVista on an HP Pavillion DV9700
laptop.
Is this a software or hardware issue and how do I turn the darn thing off? It's so loud that if I'm concentrating on something else it's startles the heck out of everyone in the room.

how to get an external monitor working with a HP DV9700 laptop? The screen is cracked and it's totally white, so I'm unable to do anything through the BIOS, desktop, etc.
I've tried Fn-f4 and every other f button combination.
The laptop is plugged into the mains, so there should be sufficient power for an external monitor.
I've also re-booted the laptop with the monitor connected and switched on.
There is no option to switch on the laptop with the lid closed, due to the position of the on-off switch.
The laptop is not networked, so I can't access the hard drive any other way.
I try it without the battery (not sure why?), but that didn't work either.

I have an HP DV9700 notbook and water got spilled on the keyboard. I turned the notebook off immediately and unplugged it. Then let it dry for a day. The next day I turned it on and now when I press some keys the wrong thing happens such as when I press backspace Internet Explorer will switch to full screen or when I press the spacebar it will do a space and put a period in the spelling.

I have a HP DV9700 laptop that I bought about 1 and half year ago. The RAMS need to be replaced, and what's the maximum RAM speed (The Mhz, not the amount of GB) can I use in this laptop?
The old one was PC5300 667 Mhz 2 x 2GB RAM
Can I use PC6400 RAM? because It's more easily available than the old PC5300.

I have a hp laptop 9843cl with 64 bit vista. it crashes randomly quite often. It says "IRQL less than or equal to" and near the end writes NETw5v64.sys and some other numbers. This is related to Intel wireless driver link 4965AGN.
I tried many things, memory check, hard drive check, drivee update check.

I recently caught a virus after accidentally typing faceboo k. cm instead of faceboo k. com in IE but Avast was able to take care of it. However, after restarting my HP laptop, I was unable to go into windows and it says there's a problem with startup or winload(I forgot). I used the repair startup 5 times, but to no avail. (I'm not sure if the virus is the cause of my problem).
So, I decided to use the Vista recovery DVDs and reformatted the C drive. I put the CD and HP automatically reformatted the windows partition of my drive. After it's done, the laptop was restarted and a dialog box that says "Software is being installed" appeared and there was a progress bar. But, it restarted again before the progress bar has a chance to complete. And after the laptop is restarted, the system says "BootMGR" is missing please restart using ctr alt del. After I restarted it again, a dialog box saying the recovery has failed appear. I tried this twice and failed both. The details of the error say something about QFE is missing or something.
FYI, the last time I used the Recovery cd I was brought to a blue screen (if I'm not wrong) where I can repartition, delete, or create partitions before formatting the drives. This time, I was unable to repartition or delete the drive, I was brought straight to reformating. And I was unable to use the Recovery Disk in the system; I pressed F11 and nothing happened.

I've had my Dell XPS M1530 for over a year now and it has been working fine ever since. I've had my laptop hibernated for about a few days now and I haven't really used it until I tried to start it up today to no avail. On pressing the power button, media button lights whirl through, power light comes on and fan comes on but my screen remains absolutely blank.
I've tried restarting and removing the battery.. Not sure what else to try..

Updated Bios to A12 today, the system stated the updated was successful but after it's auto reboot it longer boots.
When you turn the system on the screen stays powered off (nothing on the screen, and no back light). The HD and WiFi lights stay on, the battery light flashes.
I've tried removing the battery and powering with just the mains adapter, I get the same problem.

My friend has mess up his Acer Aspire 5520G. And I'm supposed to help him fix it. His laptop has a nVidia 8400 graphics card.
When the laptop is powered it keeps rebooting itselve evry 3-4 seconds, and nothing is displayed on the screen. I don't know what's wrong with my friend's laptop but I think it might be related to the BIOS been correpted in his laptop. He tried to flash the BIOS from VISTA.
Anyways, I got Crisis recovery disk, and the latest BIOS for his laptop, and I got also a USB floppy drive. I removed the harddrive and the optical drive to force the laptop to boot from the USB floppy drive. I removed the battery too.
I pushed Fn+Esc, plugged the charger in the laptop and powered the laptop. The laptop know doesn't reboot itself but doesn't detect the floppy drive either.
I used the floppy to make a boot CD and tried to flash the bios again using the DVD drive this time. Pushed Fn+Esc again. The laptop turns ON and try to read the CD for about 5 seconds and then nothing else happens.
1- Is it a BAD BIOS.
2- How to make a boot CD to use with Crisis Recovery.

I have never had problems before with my Dell Inspiron 1525 since I bought it in 2008, but 3 days ago I used it for a while and then shut it down to have lunch. When I wanted to turn it on again later it just didn't start my system, and rebooted infinitely. So I tried pressing F12 at startup to boot from my Windows 7 install DVD, but nothing happens, and the same with F2 and F8 to restore my backup. It only shows the Dell startup screen and reboots again and again.
What can I do? I am using the x64 version of Windows 7 and 4GB of RAM.

I have an aspire V5-572 notebook with win 8.1 and the only partition. I made 2 more partitions using AOMEI partitioning tool. after rebooting it shows the usual win 8 loading screen but no display comes then. complete blank screen and no desktop.
1. I assume the partitioning was done perfectly as there was no error message
2. OS loading accordingly without any warning or error message
3. At the black screen the mouse movement showing and sometimes the wifi symbol flashing up at the almost middle-bottom of the screen.

I own an Acer Aspire 5742, model no. PEW71. It is running on Windows 7. I included a vid for you to see what the problem is: [URL] ....
So, as you can see, the computer can be turned on, but it doesn't get through the acer screen on to the windows picture, and it automatically reboots and shuts itself down again over and over again. This has happened in the past, but the repairers have reset the operating system and BIOS. They also switched the hard disk for a new one, but this could be because of some other problems I was having (USB channels weren't working).
Everything worked fine for a month or so, and then it happened again. I myself am thinking about the motherboard being damaged. When this happened in the past however, I was still able to turn on my PC sometimes, so I was also able to save my files. Now on the other hand, I can't get the computer on anymore. The most important thing to me is saving the files. After that, I'll take it away for reparation again, where they will probably delete everything again (I can't commicate with the repairers myself, so I can't discuss terms or anything).
At the end of the vid you can see me turning off the computer by pulling out the adapter. Removing both the adapter and accu is the only way the computer can be turned off. Even shutting it down by pushing the on/off button for 5 seconds will not prevent the auto re-boot.

i just recently posted a disscussion on this model and i recently took it to a repair shop, at first they wanted $180 to fix it, which was ok, then they told us it needed a new harddrive, so it would another $100 more, so we went and got it from them without any work being done... now i have no idea what to do i just spent $200 to buy the thing and now its broke.
Symptoms:
Turns on to the windows recovery failure screen, push enter to continue to start windows and it trys to start up, it goes to the windows screen attemps to load for a second, then flashes a blue and shuts off and repeats the process.

I just got my new DV4t yesterday with a blu ray drive and it's pretty awesome. However, I was hoping I could use the quickplay function so I could use less battery life and use my CPU's power only for watching blu rays without vista wasting resources in the background. But it always boots straight into Windows first and then loads quickplay second.
