View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently sold my Aspire 5002 WLMi notebook to a friend who changed too many settings and mussed up the BIOS in record time.... 10 days. I got most back by using a restore point but noticed he had a BIOS password requirement for booting up. I went to change that and set the new password with blank fields....save and quit....reboot....
...and whoops. Neither does a blank field nor his old password work now. in hindsight, I recall it was odd how some of his BIOS options had been greyd out and realized he must have a supervisor and another BIOS password. Swears he doesnt remember what he did. Now, we're locked out with 3 tries and error code 00000.
I removed the CMOS battery but unlike desktops I've messed with, I cant find any jumpers or marked pads to short out. Read somewhere that Acer now uses some form of flash memory. I cant find any documentation on this and Acer hasnt answered my email. Most of their sites dont even list this version of laptop. I bought it in Amsterdam at the end of 2005 but their Netherlands site is only in Dutch, a language I cant begin to decipher.
Anyone have ideas on this or possibly a motherboard schematic with lables? I looked at lists for Acer MB's and theres not a single number printed on here that resembles those lists I found.
My Dell Vostro 1710 screen Still flickering.. Dell Just Replaced the motherboard for me last week. What Should I do... Is it caused by the 8600m gs....
View 4 Replies View RelatedIf i get the vostro 1710 from dell. Can't I just pull the 8600M GS card and upgrade to the 8600M GT or higher video card. I don't think the are welded on the motherboard?
Has anyone even tried this? Asking cause I saw on ebay that the are selling the 8600M GS and 8600M GT for laptops and was wondering.
I would like to know how to disable the touchpad on the Vostro 1710 running Vista Business.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought a Dell Vostro 1710 because I needed a Windows XP notebook with a matte 17 inch screen. Only Dell and HP have such notebooks. The Dell Vostro 1710 is exactly what I need. But I got blue screens (BSOD). It happens complete randomly, sometimes after 1 hour, sometimes after 10 days. Dell’s solution was that I had to reinstall Windows XP and the drivers, which cost me three hours work. After some days the blue screen appears again. Than I had to install Windows update, and new drivers from internet. Two hours work. No result. Than I had to remove the memory modules one by one and test again. No result. Each time I used the Vostro for one or two days before the blue screen appears again. Then Dell replaced the complete motherboard. After some days the blue screen appears again. Then I had to reinstall Windows XP and the drivers again, no result.
Three hours work. This al together cost me many days of work. Then I received another new Vostro 1710. I used it without problems for 10 days. Than the blue screen appears again. So there are already 6 weeks gone but I don’t have a functioning Dell Vostro 1710 yet. I’m a programmer and have 20 years experience with PC’s. I never had blue screens on my other PC’s or notebooks. Who has the same problem with a new Dell Vostro 1710?
I have a Dell Vostro 1710 laptop that was purchased in December 2008.
I am currently having problems however with the battery/charger. The battery does not charge except when I first plug it in. The Power Meter icon shows that it is charging but only for up to 10 seconds, then the message then goes to "On AC Power"
I first noticed that the battery icon on the taskbar in Windows XP PRo SP3 was saying "ONn AC Power" but not charging. Sure enough, it wasn't charging. My colleague who has the same laptop purchased at the same order but does not have an issue.
I have done all the things you normally do to troubleshoot a battery including reboot, check for software updates, swap the battery with my colleague, swap AC adapter, even replace the battery with a new one yet I still have that issue.Â
I have now noticed that it doesn't appear to be anything to do with Windows at all as when I power it down, plugging the charger in brings the charging light on for approximately 10 seconds, then the light goes out and the laptop doesn't charge.
This morning I tried a different battery that does charge into my laptop and had the same issue, which discounts it being a battery issue I think. I also tried downloading updated drivers from this website but again no joy.
My dell inspiron N5110 has  stopped to work. It even does't start at all.  BIOS has not recognize HDD. I push from laptop and connect other PC's. But still not answer. I think HDD's noise is normal some chip is crashed . I need restore some data from this HDD.Â
My HDD is Toshiba, 500GB, 7200RPM
I have been looking at a Studio 1737 laptop for a friend. Iniitally it wasn't booting, and it looked like a hard disk failure. I removed the disk and tried it on an external USB to SATA connector, and couldn't access it from there either.
I ordered a new SATA drive and installed it. Tried to install Vista back from the recovery disks, but it couldn't detect a drive. Checked in BIOS and it wasn't listed. Changed the BIOS setting to IDE, but still not found. I returned that one and purchased another, but the same problem. That disk was also returned and has been tested OK.
I'm suspecting that there may another issue, but i'm not sure where to look.
I now have a grey screen on booting and it is trying to reboot itself. It started with lines then dots. I managed to boot OK once after this but now just a grey screen. I believe I have managed to start diagnostics pressing Fn while starting as I heard beeps which kept repeating until I pressed Y, yes, I heard the sounds, I guess. But I can only see a grey screen so do not know the results of the tests. There are no beeps or diagnostic lights staying on or flashing to tell me anything. I had this problem before but cannot remember what I did if anything to remedy it.

Vista starts loading as evidenced by the scrolling bar, but then instead of going to a logon screen,
I just get a black screen with a moveable mouse pointer, nothing else. Hard disk activity comes to a halt.
I have dell vostro 3350 i7, 8GB RAM, 750 GB Hard Laptop. No additional software. But booting time and speed very slow.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI've had my Dell XPS M1530 for over a year now and it has been working fine ever since. I've had my laptop hibernated for about a few days now and I haven't really used it until I tried to start it up today to no avail. On pressing the power button, media button lights whirl through, power light comes on and fan comes on but my screen remains absolutely blank.
I've tried restarting and removing the battery.. Not sure what else to try..
Updated Bios to A12 today, the system stated the updated was successful but after it's auto reboot it longer boots.Â
When you turn the system on the screen stays powered off (nothing on the screen, and no back light). The HD and WiFi lights stay on, the battery light flashes.
I've tried removing the battery and powering with just the mains adapter, I get the same problem.
I just want to confirm that the BIOS does not allow direct booting of the msata ssd card since the legacy boot options only show the hard drive.
What if the hard drive is removed?
I have a problem with my dv9700. When I try to turn it on, it lights up in the small blue LED's, but then reboots even before I see the BIOS booting, this it keeps on doing again and again.
I've come to the conclusion that it's some kind of hardware failure, but exactly which one it is, I don't know. I tried switching out the RAM but with no luck.
Anyone here have a suggestion to what to do?
I have A LOT of very important data on the PC and I off cause have taken backups, but not recently.
For my E6500, I've irrevocably lost my TPM Owner's Password, and I've lost my System password.
The good news: I still have the Hard Drive Password, and the Windows admin password.
The fingerprint reader is still working, still allowing me to login to the machine on startup. The bad news: if the fingerprint reader stops working, I won't be able to login anymore...
I have a HP Pavilion dv4t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC and after updating my bios from F.22 to F.24 the computer wont boot into Vista. It was completed successfully using the winflash, but the computer restarted it just stays at a black screen, and wont go any further. (I hope bios is not corrupted.)
The computer is on but its not booting the operating system.
Is there any way I can revert to the old bios?
Also is there any key combination that can get it to load BIOS from a USB flash drive?
My keyboard works great except when I try to enter passwords. Â It appears to lockup and I have to hit the same key over and over before I get a response

I have the option to remember web site logins turned off:

I could ignore it, but SimplePass is blocking IE from proceeding until I reply.

I am running Windows 8.1 on a brand new Envy Touchsmart 15 15-j151nr laptop.
Â
I like using the fingerprint sensor to log in to windows, but I am going to have to disable SimplePass if I can't get this fixed.
I have just bought the above laptop and gone through the setup. I've only input 2 passwords, both of which I've written down and it appeared to have set up okay. Unfortunately, the laptop lid got shut down and it won't accept either of the passwords I've written down.

When i want to clear the bios password , i take it blank (dont enter any password)...and save it.
When i restart labtop i see again the password box , but i cant access my computer becuse it dos not accept my password and blank password......
I made a previous fan about the issue I had with Dell's managment of the fan settings. In an attempt to combat this, I thought I'd try installing a previous BIOS to see if it fixes the problem (perhaps there was an alternative fan managment setup).
