View 8 RepliesPurchased from Amazon 2 months ago and worked perfectly without a hitch until a few days ago when I got on the receiving end of the win8 equivalent of the BSOD with the . From them on I ended up with slow boots random pauses etc. I opted to refresh the PC without affecting any files but toward the end of the reinstall the BSOD appears and now all I had was a black background with only a white cursor.
Left that for over a hour, nothing happened so held down the power button to force shutdown. Found that Z500 no longer boots into win8 so eventually decided to do a clean reinstall with the onekeyrecovery via NOVO button. This should have been the end of all the problem I was having but unbelievably the problem is still there.
Research what I could about this and found that the slow boot is caused by hard disk constantly being thrashed about by a system file ntoskrnl.exe. I tried updating the wifi driver and it appeared to have done the trick until the next day when I booted up the system again. It appear that the constant hd activity goes away after a few hours of leaving the PC on.
Anyway I have drawn a blank as to what's going on especially as everything was working perfectly until up to that point with no signs of system conflict.
Recently I began having problems upon starting up my HP Pavilion g6 series laptop. I would get a disc error that would require me to restart with "control, alt, delete." It has now gone to giving me Hard Disk errors 303 and 305. I've been looking around on these forums and it appears that I'm looking at a harddrive getting ready to fail.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium with an Intel i7-2620M CPU @ 2.70GHz with 6GB of RAM and it's a 64 bit operating system.
Am I correct in assuming that the hard drive is getting ready to fail? If so, how do I replace it and what do I replace it with?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy hp pavilion g7 froze yesterday after saying it couldn't connect to internet. I have tried to reboot. The hp logo comes on and then dot circle for about three min. Then the screen goes blank, but it is still on, you can see bluish light on screen. Any way I hit escape during on and got the screen with options. I ran the run in test and start up test. Both came back with hard disk short DST. Failure. The smart check passed anyway the failure I'd is 64x950-6h9783-mfpx0k-60uc03.

Fortunately all his documents and photos have been copied to an external drive, but unfortunately he has no system image or restore disk or Windows 8 intallation disk.
Is there anywhere on the net where I can get an ISO image to burn a Windows 8 insallation disk or can HP supply a restore disk preferably to restore the laptop back to factory settings.

I have a Pavilion dv7 1245dx with Windows Vista 64 Bit bought 2009 at Best Buy. It slid off the arm of the couch onto a carpeted floor while shut down. Next day started ok, got into yahoo, facebook, then kind of froze up. Eventually, would not do anything, manually shut it down, started it back up. Black screen, 'No Bootable Device-Insert Boot Disc And Press Any Key'. It will not accept recovery discs that I made after purchase. Start up test ok, memory test ok, hard disk failed 'Boot Drive Not Found'. Caps lock light is blinking. I saw something in a forum about resetting or reseating the hard drive but no explanantion how to do it.

I inicially thought it was just Google Chrome as it seemed fine until opening that up, but then everything was slower, so I restarted the computer and ran the start up diagnostic and the hard disk short DST failed giving me the failure ID of 9U0K9R-66X77D-QFPK1G-60QL03. View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a HP 15 Notebook PC with no dvd drive recently I was sent the system recovery cds from HP. I dont have an external dvd drive. What i do have is a Toshiba Satelight laptop with Widows 7 and a good dvd drive. Also I have a 500 GB external hard drive. I was thinking maybe I could copy the disks onto the external harddrive with the Toshiba dvd drive. Then attach the external hard drive to my HP 15 Notebook by usb port and install Hp recovey disks from the external hard drive.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have the Dell XPS L501x and am now getting a failed message when the SMART Short Self Test is run. The message says:
"Your drive indicates that a failure may be imminent. Backup all important files and replace drive."
The hard drive is SAMSUNG HM640JJ.
A couple of questiions please:
1. I take if that this is a legitimate error message as opposed to some system glitch.
2. If I buy another SAMSUNG HM640JJ drive how can transfer the data from the old to the new.
I have a Dell Inspiron N5110. The Warranty ran out in July of last year so for some reason I cannot email technical support directly.I ran the Dell PC Diagnostic test earlier today, all of which passed with the exception of the SMART Short Self Test which failed. Apparently my hard drive is "operating outside of normal parameters and should be replaced". I tried this twice, once with the Dell diagnostic software installed on my laptop and once using the downloadable diagnostics from the Dell website, both had the same outcome.
I then tried the system diagnostics accessed via the F12 key on system startup. Again all passed but the hard drive test which would not run and provided the following message:
Error code 2000-0142
validation 12985
Msg Hard Drive 0 s/n (omitted), self test unsuccessful status = 7
I have read around on the support forums that the next step to try is removing and replacing the hard drive then re-running the diagnostics. If this does not solve the issue and I have to replace the hard drive does that mean I will need to buy a new copy of windows to install on the hard drive, as my laptop came with no disks? I have backed up all my important files but obviously not any programs.
what my next steps would be and what the process is should I have to replace my hard drive? I am a "noob" in this area and don't want to spending uneccassary money on parts that don't need to be replaced or buying software I don't need to replace as it is already available if you see what I mean?
When I open Windows media center all the photos that are installed on computer are still there. They do not come up and display on the HP media smart program. When I go to a space that is to have a photo but is blank, I can press "ctrl and enter" button and that picture and file opens up in windows media center.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am so tired of receiving Low Disk Space on recovery (D). I have done everything it asked. Empty Recycle Bin which is EMPTY. I am not a computer wizard but it seems unfair that I have pay over $150.00 year to correct this problem once a year. I have checked a lot of places and it just keeps telling me the same thing. That doesn't work.
I did just install a HP wireless printer 3052A

i own an acer aspire 5630, which i bought in 2007. never had a problem with it, apart from cleaning the fan and heat sink from dust which i've done two or three times.
in the last week i've had a new overheating problem, which is that my hard disk has started getting extremely hot. now the fan is defiitely working, because i can hear it.
so i'm a bit confused about what to do. i thought perhaps the fan maybe isn't working as well as it has in the past, and that maybe i should just buy a new fan for it.
why the hard disk would be getting so hot all of a sudden,
I have Aspire 5112WLMi (conf. in the signature) for 4 years now, and my HDD is almost done!
I want to buy a new one with much biger capacity (thinking about WD 320GB), how can I know will my system support this HDD?
Has anybody installed this big HDD on 5112WLMi?
I just bought Vaio Fw590 with 320 Gb, do you guys know how to do disk partition without deleting the current factory recovery system/ file?
is it recommended to have disk partition?
my laptop, hp pavillion g60-120us has been slowing down and crashing lately, so i ran hd tune to check it's temperature and found out it's running at around 62c with several programs running - firefox with multiple tabs, majic jack, hd tune, and the usual security-antiivirus and spyware.
when i first turn the laptop on, it starts at around 40c and quickly goes up to the 60's within 20-30 minutes.
when i run a scan of antivirus or ultimate defrag it tops out at around 70c.
the hd tuner hits critical hard disk temperature at 55c and pop ups a message every few seconds.
i've also run speedfan, and it tells me the same temperature.
is it normal for a laptop to run a temperature in the high 60's...should i put it on a block of dry ice, or move to the north pole?
I am thinking buying a 500GB 2.5" WD HD for my macbook and taking out the original HD. Can I swap the macbook HD with the PS3 120G HD? so I can download more contents from PSN.
