I have recently updated Lenovo Z500 to windows 8.1 but I have to reset and get back to windows 8 , not updated properly.
How to update windows 8 to 8.1. Do I need to uninstall some programs also before updating or have to install windows 8.1 drivers before updating windows 8 to 8.1 ..

View 3 Replies View RelatedI open this post to report a brightness problem on Lenovo Z500 Ideapad. Yesterday I've upgraded to OS Windows 8.1 and when I adjusted the screen brightness it goes off, and brightness adjust function doesn't works. I've solved my problem reinstalling the Intel video drivers, downloaded from Lenovo Driver Support.
It seems that Windows 8.1 upgrade disables video drivers.
All was fine until I pressed F12. Now even on maximum brightness it's really dim.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have z500. I start playing some medium grapic games. After a 1 hour gameplay my graphics start to glitch so i checked my cpu and gpu temp. I saw that CPU temp has reached 99 Celcius but still the fans were dead.
Few minutes later, after what ever reason, fans start to spin and now its cooled downed to 60 C. and keeps spinning in low speed still.
Since i can see the temp, i assume there is no problem in thermometer so i assume its kind of a software deficiency. I am not using any overcload or cooling app, my power settings are set to high performance.
I want to use F1-F12 as standard keys but I can't find any way to do so. I looked in BIOS but theres nothing useful. How do I turn off the FN button?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it. When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network. I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot. I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.
I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook. I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career.
I even downloaded the file efiootBOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....
Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks? How can I boot from USB?
I recently got the Z500, working under Windows 8.I got a question regarding the battery charge. I work on the laptop for extended periods of time with the power plugged in. Since this is bad for the battery, is there any way to disable the charging or to perhaps remove the battery?I wasn't able to find anything similar for this model.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. How to up the brightness?

Ever since I got the laptop over a year ago, the audio was never working properly for me. Every time a sound was played there would be a staticky sound played with the audio.
The same thing happens when I use headphones with it. The laptop is also out of warranty so I don't know what to do.
I bought Z500 last week and I am facing problem with the battery life. I charged the laptop for 12 hr for the first time. The battery discharges within 2 hr every time. I just browse internet or watch movies and the battery life is far below the expectation.
There are two power plans - Balanced and Power saver and I do not see any difference in either. What is wrong with my laptop battery.
The default behavior of F1 through F12 keys on the z500 are set to perform laptop functions like mute, turn sound or brightness up and down and so on.
Is there a way to reverse the way F1, F2.. F12 keys work, so they work like on any other regular keyboard.
I use the basic functionality of the F-keys all the time, when renaming files, searching and so on, and I would like to be able to use them without having to press "fn" every time.
How do I switch between internal and external microphone? I have Z500 with one connector for headphones and microphone; when I connect an external microphone there, it's ignored and recording is done automatically from the internal microphone.

I own an Ideapad Z-500 notebook with Win 8.1 pro.
My battery is at locked at 59% of charge and even if i connect the power plug it doesn't charge any more.
I had the same problem a few months ago and I run run the "Battery Firmware Update" i found here: [URL] ....
It worked for then, but now I have the same problem once again and firmware update doesnt work anymore because my firmware is already up to date.
My z500 cannot boot up without power cable plugged in. Usually,a few seconds after I saw the lenovo logo,the system will suddenly shut down just like the battery was removed.however,if I connect powercable to the laptop and power on,everything is fine,I can enter windows 8,or ubuntu,after I enter OS,I can disconnect the power cable without any problems.the battery is healthy and can last for more than 2 hours.
So far I tried the following methods:
1.update BIOS
2.update battery firmware
3.reset BIOS
none of them worked for me....

The Win7 that it came with also had lenovo energy management through which I could toggle the WLAN and bluetooth on and off. Since I never used the bluetooth, I turned it off via energy mgmt.
Also interestingly, when I was running Win7 I had it dual boot with Ubuntu. And if my Bluetooth was turned off via EM from win7... bluetooth wouldn't be recognised in ubuntu and there was no way of turning it back on... I had to boot back into win7 and turn it on via EM and boot back into ubuntu.
Recently I updated to Win8.1 but hadn't turned on the bluetooth before doing so. In Win8.1 the bluetooth device is not recognised anywhere..not in PC settings(metro UI), not even in device manager. I tried to install the energy management for 8.1 from the support site but it was extremely buggy and didnt find any option to turn on bluetooth. The old EM didnt install properly in comaptibilty mode.
In ubuntu now (dual boot with win8.1) its still the same. Bluetooth not regonised just as before.
I cannot go back to win7 now. There is no proper EM for win8.1. There is no option in BIOS regarding bluetooth. How do i turn on the bluetooth adapter?
I just installed the 8.1 update. It now seems that my laptop shuts off when idle It did not do this on 8....
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter installing the windows 8.1 update i can't get the sound to work on my tv. When i connect me laptop to the tv by a HDMI cable the sound doesn't work. The playback option is already set to 'realtek digital output' and i installed the latest drivers.
When i check my device manager i see that the high definition audio has got a exclamation mark on it,
but when i try to install de latest drivers trough the device manager it says that the latest drivers are already istalled.
Well i just don't no a sollution for this problem, and it would be nice to watch movies with sound on my tv again
