How do I switch between internal and external microphone? I have Z500 with one connector for headphones and microphone; when I connect an external microphone there, it's ignored and recording is done automatically from the internal microphone.

How I assume the switch between headphones and speakers should work: I turn on music or anything esle and if no headphones are plugged in, every sound comes from the internal speakers. Now if I plug in headphones then the sound comes exclusively from the headphones. If I pull then out again the sound comes from the speakers and so on.
In my case the situation is the following: If I have no headphones plugged in and turn on music, then I hear if via speakers. If I decide to continue listening to that music via headphones and plug them in, then the music continues to come from the speakers, but for example the notification sound from outlook comes from the headphones. This works vice versa.
If I open, say youtube to watch a video, while having the headphones plugged in, I will hear the sound via them. If I now unplugg them, the speakers will stay silent.
What can I do that if there are no external speakers plugged in (headphones etc.) every sound will be played by the internal speakers, if I plug in some sort of external speaker it comes from them and if I unplugg it it switches back to the internal speakers?
All was fine until I pressed F12. Now even on maximum brightness it's really dim.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have z500. I start playing some medium grapic games. After a 1 hour gameplay my graphics start to glitch so i checked my cpu and gpu temp. I saw that CPU temp has reached 99 Celcius but still the fans were dead.
Few minutes later, after what ever reason, fans start to spin and now its cooled downed to 60 C. and keeps spinning in low speed still.
Since i can see the temp, i assume there is no problem in thermometer so i assume its kind of a software deficiency. I am not using any overcload or cooling app, my power settings are set to high performance.
I want to use F1-F12 as standard keys but I can't find any way to do so. I looked in BIOS but theres nothing useful. How do I turn off the FN button?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI bought the Lenovo Ideapad Z500 and I'm trying to boot from a USB drive in order to install Windows on it. When I start the boot menu I only see the hard-drive, the DVD and the network. I tried to set both UEFI mode and Legacy mode in BIOS but the USB stick does not appear in the menu when I boot. I put the image of windows with Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool which formats the stick in NTFS mode.
I have the latest BIOS v1.21 and I tried with 2 different USB sticks: one 16GB USB 2.0 Corsair and with a 32GB USB 3.0 ADATA both on USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports on the notebook. I really haven't seen anything like this in my entire career.
I even downloaded the file efiootBOOTX64.efi and replaced the one that Windows come with on the specified folder on the USB stick ....
Why is so difficult to choose the USB boot drive on the newer notebooks? How can I boot from USB?

I have an HP DV9930US, and the internal/built-in microphone (actually, I think there are suppose to be two, surrounding the webcam at the top of the display) is not working. When I try it, I get no input, e.g., with Sound Recorder, I just get "noise".
I've tried this with the original Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and Windows 2003 (I multi-boot), and I've tried every possible driver (including both the ones from HP and the direct Realtek ones) and setting that I can find, but no success ...
I haven't had a need for using the mic, so I don't think that I had tried it when I originally got the laptop, so I don't know if it ever worked...
I've partially disassembled the laptop, and confirmed that the microphone connector that goes from the display to the small (~1" x 1") board is properly connected. I haven't opened up the display bezel to check what's going on there.
Also, if I plug an external microphone into the jack at the front of the laptop, that does work.
Does anyone have a DV9930US, or something in the same series, and if so, does your internal microphone work? Did you have to do something "special" to get it to work?
I recently got the Z500, working under Windows 8.I got a question regarding the battery charge. I work on the laptop for extended periods of time with the power plugged in. Since this is bad for the battery, is there any way to disable the charging or to perhaps remove the battery?I wasn't able to find anything similar for this model.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a new z500 that I've downgraded to Windows 7 64bit. For the most part I have everything working. I accidentally hit the brightness + (yes, +) and it instantly dimmed the screen to where it is barely viewable. It seems that hitting that one key decreased the brightness to the minimum amount. I've rebooted, looked for a setting in the BIOS, hit the Brightness +/- and can't increase the brightness. It is interesting because the other hot keys work correctly. I've even upped the brightness in the Control Panel, but nothing seems to work. The screen is extremely dim whenever the machine is powered on (including the BIOS), not just in Windows. I tried a lot of intel chipset drivers, the available Intel HD 4000 drivers in Win8 and win7 too, but nothing working. How to up the brightness?

Ever since I got the laptop over a year ago, the audio was never working properly for me. Every time a sound was played there would be a staticky sound played with the audio.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought Z500 last week and I am facing problem with the battery life. I charged the laptop for 12 hr for the first time. The battery discharges within 2 hr every time. I just browse internet or watch movies and the battery life is far below the expectation.
There are two power plans - Balanced and Power saver and I do not see any difference in either. What is wrong with my laptop battery.
The default behavior of F1 through F12 keys on the z500 are set to perform laptop functions like mute, turn sound or brightness up and down and so on.
Is there a way to reverse the way F1, F2.. F12 keys work, so they work like on any other regular keyboard.
I use the basic functionality of the F-keys all the time, when renaming files, searching and so on, and I would like to be able to use them without having to press "fn" every time.
I always use a headset when I need a mic, so I want to basically disable the internal mic but I can't figure it out.

Im trying to record some audio using my new Vostro 1510 but I can't seem to select the internal microphone and it allows me use the 3.5mm plug with a external microphone.
I think the microphone is left to the webcam
But there is no selection in the Sound settings.
Tried in Skype, WLM, etc. It worked fine in Vista basic. I upgraded to ultimate and it doesnt work .....
I've just bought an Acer Aspire 5920G and the Crystal Eye webcam works perfect with MSN and so does the internal microphone. However, I've started hosting a show on an Internet radio and the sound quality from the internal mic is too low. Therefore I bought a microphone that I plugged in the appropriate jack on the laptop (next to the jack for the headphones) but when recording or broadcasting it seems that my laptop uses BOTH the external and the internal mic. Could anybody tell me how to DISABLE the internal mic and use the external instead?
I've tried to disable the Crystal Eye from the Device Manager on Windows Vista but that doesn't solve the problem. I've also tried to modify the settings from the recording devices but the LineIn is not plugged in. I'd just like to plug a mic and use that instead of the webcam's one. Any help would be really appreciated as I have to host a show in 2 days and I don't have a clue on how to solve this problem.
