Acer :: How Can I Disable Internal Microphone On Aspire 5920G
Sep 19, 2008
I've just bought an Acer Aspire 5920G and the Crystal Eye webcam works perfect with MSN and so does the internal microphone. However, I've started hosting a show on an Internet radio and the sound quality from the internal mic is too low. Therefore I bought a microphone that I plugged in the appropriate jack on the laptop (next to the jack for the headphones) but when recording or broadcasting it seems that my laptop uses BOTH the external and the internal mic. Could anybody tell me how to DISABLE the internal mic and use the external instead?
I've tried to disable the Crystal Eye from the Device Manager on Windows Vista but that doesn't solve the problem. I've also tried to modify the settings from the recording devices but the LineIn is not plugged in. I'd just like to plug a mic and use that instead of the webcam's one. Any help would be really appreciated as I have to host a show in 2 days and I don't have a clue on how to solve this problem.
I wanted to just mute or check off the microphone on my laptop (the one that comes automatically installed on the laptop), only "Disable" made it completely go away. I don't even know what microphone it was. How can I get it back? Anything I can just download online? Â HP dv2419us is the model.Â
I have an HP DV9930US, and the internal/built-in microphone (actually, I think there are suppose to be two, surrounding the webcam at the top of the display) is not working. When I try it, I get no input, e.g., with Sound Recorder, I just get "noise".
I've tried this with the original Vista Home Premium 64-bit, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit, and Windows 2003 (I multi-boot), and I've tried every possible driver (including both the ones from HP and the direct Realtek ones) and setting that I can find, but no success ...
I haven't had a need for using the mic, so I don't think that I had tried it when I originally got the laptop, so I don't know if it ever worked...
I've partially disassembled the laptop, and confirmed that the microphone connector that goes from the display to the small (~1" x 1") board is properly connected. I haven't opened up the display bezel to check what's going on there.
Also, if I plug an external microphone into the jack at the front of the laptop, that does work.
Does anyone have a DV9930US, or something in the same series, and if so, does your internal microphone work? Did you have to do something "special" to get it to work?
Im trying to record some audio using my new Vostro 1510 but I can't seem to select the internal microphone and it allows me use the 3.5mm plug with a external microphone.
I think the microphone is left to the webcam
But there is no selection in the Sound settings. Tried in Skype, WLM, etc. It worked fine in Vista basic. I upgraded to ultimate and it doesnt work .....
How do I switch between internal and external microphone? I have Z500 with one connector for headphones and microphone; when I connect an external microphone there, it's ignored and recording is done automatically from the internal microphone.
I am having problems with the internal microphone located at the top of the display on the HP G60 notebook PC, pre-loaded with the Windows 7 Home Premium operating system. All OS, PC drivers and system ROM have been updated to current.  The sound it produces is at best barely audible or usually completely inaudible. This is true when I use the internal Sound Recorder app as well as when I try to utilize Windows Live and Skype for either audio or video calls. The fact it behaves this way using Sound Recorder proves it has nothing to do with firewalls or internet latency. Also, I can hear and see the people I'm trying to communicate with just fine.  I first noticed the problem on an HP G60t system I purchased from hpshopping.com in early December 2009, which was a custom build and shipped to me.  I opened a case with support and they told me I would have to ship it back for repair or I could just return it. I returned it.  Figuring I was just unlucky enough to get a bad system, I then went to Best Buy in late December 2009 and bought a second HP G60, this time a G60-535DX, which was similarly configured. Guess what? The exact same problem.  I have been researching these HP support forums and the customer reviews posted at bestbuy.com for the HP G60. It seems many people are having the exact same problems. I have tried all of the suggestions I have found, including the following, but nothing changes the fact the microphone quality on two HP G60 notebooks purchased from separate retail outlets / inventories is extremely poor and essentially non functional.  Updated HP Drivers and ROMUpdated Windows softwareUninstalled Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio driver in Device Manager, then reinstalledUnplugged and removed battery, pressed power for 60 seconds, reassembledAdjusted Conexant Pebble High Definition SmartAudio driver property settings, including changing the Default Format, Exclusive Mode and Signal Enhancement settings.
I have a standard internal HDD and a secondary HDD in the optical disk drive bay.The BIOS reports them as HDD (internal) and ODD (drive bay). What does ODD mean? Now in the Boot section the terms are:
•Hard Drive - shows my internal HDD. My secondary HDD does not appear here.
•CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive - is the optical drive. BUT as my secondary HDD is in the optical drive bay will this boot the secondary HDD?
•USB Storage Device - assume this refers to the USB ports
•Removable Drive - what is this? What boots from this?
•eSATA - assume it boots when an eSATA drive when attached
Finally. I know you can move the priority of boot options up and down BUT can you disable options? Eg. if you want to force a boot from a second drive - how can you disable the internal drive? (which you can do on many BIOSes)
Is there really no way to use an external microphone without purchasing one of those USB-pens to transfer it through that?  The in-built microphone is dreadful, and I recently bought a microphone. I thought every laptop nowadays had an input for microphones. The AA e1-522 doesn't, or am I missing something? Why remove it in the first place...?
I own an Acer Aspire R7-572G which has a combined 4-pin 3.5mm headset jack.  I would like to use a normal microphone with an 3.5mm connector. The microphone did not work by directly plugging the connector into the socket, therefore I bought an adapter which splits the 4-pin output into speaker & microphone sockets.  Now the microphone does work properly, however, unless I am connecting external speakers I am not able to use the internal notebook speakers. (maybe because the notebook assumes that a headset is plugged in)  >>> Is there a way to use my external microphone and the internal notebook speakers?  One more thing to mention: If I plug in the cable, a popup on the notebook appears asking which device I just plugged in. Sadly my only three options are "headphones", "speaker output" or "headset". NO MICROPHONE OPTION !!!
My aspire 5315 over heats occasionally and when i am using it it shuts down due to heating problems. I use "notebook hardware control 2.0" to monitor my hardware, and at time it shows my cpu temp to be 98 degree centigrade, at 99 it shuts down.
So what im asking that is this a normal issue, do you guys owning this model have this problem as well.
Today i used "Speedfan" to find out any info about my cpu fans, but it gave me no info, like no fans found.
Can some one install this app in their aspire 5315 and tell me if u get the same results.
edit: k even if someone else does not have this app or does not want to install it. i stilll find it a bit odd for a laptop to be with out a cpu fan, dont u.
like this is how the normal operation of speddfan should look like, " i ran it on my desktop pc"
Just got an acer aspire 15 for birthday. The box says dvd/cd combo, but there is no dvd cd drive. There is a plastic piece over where it would go. Can I add one and how much for and internal one?
I just acquired an Acer Aspire 5920G with NVidia GeForce 8600M GS.
I opened the back cover to see what it looks like and it looks like the graphics card is replaceable. It’s an MXM-II card in 73 mm x 78 mm dimensions.
I’m planning to replace the graphics card and I have couple questions.
Does the motherboard or the system support Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 MXM – II or Nvidia Quadro FX3600 512 MB MXM II?
How do you upgrade the CPU? I unbolted all the bolts on the heat sink but the frame is in the way and I can’t slide the heat sink assembly out as simple as I thought it would be. Does the mainboard support X9000 extreme CPU?
Is there a link to a manual where it shows how to break apart the laptop? I might change the screen, etc.
Is it worth putting the 5920G on steroids with X9000 cpu and Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 or Nvidia Quadro FX3600?
on my installation of an internal bluetooth adapter (I bought off of ebay) in my Aspire 6930? What exactly do I have to remove to get to where I install it? Where do I install it?
I recently downgraded my girlfriends Acer Aspire 3680 from Vista to XP as it became apparent that this notebook couldn't handle vista well; (on a side note, this is the second aspire 3680 that I have downgraded). For some reason no matter what I do the computer does not see the internal dial-up modem. Now, as its internal there is no installation disc, I have downloaded 6 different acer aspire 3680 modem drivers from Acer support centers and not a single one worked. In the Device manager, the modem drop down is not even there. I ran the modem troubleshooter and it detected no port was found, but Ports weren't in the device manager either. This one is really stumping me and i'm tired of looking at that screen.
So after packing up my comp at a friends house my comp is kinda dead, it was alive before I left my home and everything was fine then.
When i try to start it the cpu is flickering for a bit then freezes so i dont se any bios or anything.
The blue tooth and the lights to the right of the key board are lit to and I have no idea what to do.
Ive tried my old ram mem sticks, pulling out the battery and trying without it, trying a new hard drive, checking for loose cables inside the comp, checking for dust and screaming at it but nothing works.
I talked to some friends and they suggested something called flashing the bios but I have no idea how to do it and I dont know if it will work since i cant se the bios start up screen before it freezes.
I have called acer but they basicly told me to send it in but i dont know if i have any varenty left on it so I rather try to get it working on my own before sending it in if I still got varenty on it.
i played nfs and my laptop overheated and turned off fan was very loud. is there a way that i could buy a new fan or new graphic card i have Gfroce 8600gt 512 is there any graphic card beter one that doesent heat up so much?
I believe that my Acer Aspire 5920G was getting too hot, so I checked the temps:
CPU: 81C GPU: 73C HDD: 55C
I'm afraid those temperatures are too high. I don't understand why this happens! I don't play games that much now, I have cleaned the laptop's fans recently and I have the air-conditioner on all the day to keep the room with the laptop cool.
What can I do to decrease temps? I don't want to spend money, because I'm having problems with that laptop and my 8600M GS might die soon...
I don't think the issue is physical as under Audio Properties => recording I get response from the 'VU' meter there. However, I am simply not being heard across skype or BF2/OFP VOIP. It's not the levels, which are set to maximum, I've installed the latest realtek HD drivers, and skype is set to 'windows default device'
Windows sound recorder works, although not very well.
i installed windows 7 on my 5920g, however, i don't know what to do with empowering technology. Although launch manager is suggested by acer to be installed the other applications are not listed as compatible with windows 7..
I did download them though, and installed them, but at enet communication manager i got a message about known compatibility issues...So i wonder, if there is a compatible version, or if i can use a version of another laptop that originally came with win7 and if so ,which one..?
If I close or open the Display part of the screen and or all of the screen turn's black and or blue shortly, it flickers more or less. On some positions I don't get any flickering at all, but if I just slowly open it and adjust the viewing angle it tend to apear and disapear.
Also I can reproduce it if I slowly and very gently touch the top edges of the lid and slightly push on one side and pull on the other. Not much, just a bit. Also if I put a little pressure on the left bottom side of the screen it tend to get this flickering.
Black & Blue are not the only problem, sometimes the screen turns black all of the sudden and white stripes apear on the right side / partly left side and it looks like the display is burning in, it slowly gets white and the effect moves slowly to the middle of the display. Also an indicator for that problem is that part of the pixels on screen get blue and or flicker blue. Then bigger parts bet blue and so one.
The usual open / close / adjust viewing angle works to make this disapear for a while.
Also 3D extensive games and HD movies seem to cause this problem.
My Acer Aspire 5920G appears to have 'died' and I thought I'd try here before contacting Acer. Despite being under warranty, Acer have found loopholes to charge exorbitant fees every time something goes wrong.
the 2.5 year-old laptop was working perfectly last night. This morning, I opened it and:
T: Pressed power button T+2secs: DVD drive clicks on, hard drive spins up, everything seems normal T+5secs: NumLock light flashes, but visible POST/BIOS *does not appear*. The screen never shows anything. T+8secs: Hard drive is still on but ceases activity. Operating system is not loaded.
(I took the timings at a subsequent attempt, but every attempt follows the same pattern)
I've tried: - running from battery, AC and both - reseating the memory modules - replacing and removing the hard drive - booting with a boot disk in the DVD drive - booting with an external monitor attached
to no avail. From this end, I'm not sure what else I could try. Clearly there's no 'good' time for a laptop failure, but this is a pretty terrible time, so I was hoping to avoid Acer spending 6 weeks deciding how many hundreds to charge me.
Very often, when my 5920G boots, it changes from the native 1280x800 resolution to 1024x768. Because of that, the icons mess up and I have to change the resolution and then put the icons back at their place.
There is roughly 75% chance this will happen when my laptop boots.
Adding this with my other problems makes using this 5920G a frustrating experience!
This started happening months ago, when I reformated the laptop the problem had gone, and now it reappeared.
I have ordered this laptop recently (Spec is below), well, it's due to arrive tomorrow, and am probably going to upgrade to Vista x64, or at least give the new Windows 7 x64 a go on it. However, I'm just unsure as to whether it will be easy enough to migrate or whether I'm likely to have issues finding drivers for the relevant hardware. I hope someone here can give me some advice as attempting to scour the internet for a response for this particular model has been a nightmare, I've found the drivers page but it's all a bit confusing with seperate 64bit and then SP1 sections! ...
