View 2 Replies View RelatedAnother problem on my Lenovo Thinkpad L520: After installing the Lenovo Power Management Driver, I can no longer adjust the LCD brightness by using the FN+DEL/POS1 keys. Immediately after adjusting the brightness, it gets reverted to its old value, set in the Power Management software.
I tried the Windows 7 driver (1.65.05.21) and the WIndows XP/7/8 driver (1.66.0.22), both with the same result.
This is really annoying and I am very frustrated with Lenovo right now, since this is not the only problem I am having with the laptop.
I have a thinkpad l520 5016-c74 running windows 7 64bit and kubuntu 13.04.
When i try to adlust the brightness in kubuntu, the jotkeys work just fine.
On the other hand, in windows, i can adjust the brightness from the windows menu, but every time i hit Fn+home or delete (this is the hotkey on my machine) the brightness, regardless of where it is set, drops to 7 (from a scale of 1-15), and cannot be readjusted, If i hit again Fn+Home or Delete, it does this flash, like it's trying to change the brightness, but something holds it in 7. I can always change it from the windows menu. But again the same thing, hotkey and back to 7.
The most critical issue on my week old L520 is that it goes into sleep mode seemingly randomly even while I'm doing work. (In fact, it went into sleep mode twice while writing this post.)
I have the newest (3.59) Power Management Installed with all settings set to keep the system awake, plus updated drivers for both Lenovo and Microsoft via the Think Vantage Toolbox update feature.
According to TP Fan Control the temperatures seem fine, except perhaps for the 6th and 8th sensor, where the temperature always hovers around 60c or a little below. [URL]...
I have updated some months ago, my laptop 7859-5SG from Windows 7 to Windows 8 -> 8.1 and after that the bluetooth radio doesn't work anymore.
I tried to find a driver on the driver download section for my laptop, but I didn't find nothing. First problem found, is the hotkey fn+F5 that not show nothing on the display after key press, and normally with this function I can see if the radio is on or off.
I checked on the BIOS section if bluetooth is enable, and this is on. What I can do to activate bluetooth radio again?
I've had my L520 for over a year now and have not previously needed to burn stuff to disk, so I do not know if my problem is new or old.
Essentially the drive recognises disks when they are inserted and accurately displays files already on the disk, but it gives available space as nil regardless of disk or existing file size. Additionally if a blank disk is inserted it will say that the disk cannot be read and to try formatting. These are standard preformatted disks I'm using.
I want to install a new ssd-drive, which is empty. I did create a DVD under rescue & recovery. But on startup with the new hdd, it only offers me a restore option, not a NEW system. R&R also only created ONE disc, imho thats not enough, dont I need some more for the whole system?
And I cant backup the whole windows system, because even though its fresh its 80 gig (some data was taken along, dunno which)...
And thats my problem in a nutshell: I cant create discs with ONLY the windows install-system, or rather I dont know how
I now tried 3 times, and R&R burns only ONE disc, and booting from that, it asks for a recovery. I want a new fresh virgin system...
I tried a couple of times, did not work. Had to swap back the old drive to work again.

Is it normal for the Fingerprint reader to flash green when the X230 is turned off? Running Win8

I have updated all the software using "Lenovo update and drivers" but it did not work (BIOS image also was updated during this process). I doubt that it is hardware fault because I have Linux OS installed as dual boot among with Windows, and no problems there with logging in using fingerprint reader (fingerprint-gui package)...
where is the printscreen button on the X1 carbon ? Where is the insert botton ?
The keyboard of the X1 Carbon is non standard compliant. The person who took keyboard classes and efficient at typing becomes inhibited with these changes The End botton is close to the A key which is usually the spot for the Caps Lock
I'm tried hard-booting the device, but no dice. When I push the power button, I show activity in the status lights and can feel heat coming out of the heatsink. I think I see the 'ThinkPad' screen displaying very faintly at that time, but it seems not to proceed through the regular boot process. I'm definitely not able to get to a BIOS post.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI got an X230 a few months ago and the power key has stopped working. It doesn't spring back like the other keys and pressing it has no affect. My laptop is under warenty so I plan on contacting the store I bought it in about a repair but I'm wondering is there any way for me to use the laptop in the meantime? Any way to turn the laptop on without using the power key?
View 8 Replies View Relatedthe microphone mute button doesn't work, nor does it light up at all... the speaker mute button works. View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to disable the center scroll button on the x-240 trackpad. I keep hitting it when I try to use the left mouse button. I never use the scroll button and want to get rid of it. The new trackpad's design is horrible with the undefined buttons.

Often when I touch the Touchpad I see the arrow on screen change to a "button" being displayed. And the button is not like using the arrow. Very difficult to work with it. So I keep moving around Touchpad to get rid of the "button" and return to arrow.
How to rid of this "button" action? Or what am I doing to cause it? I believe I have changed the sensitivity of the touchpad. I'll check again.
I've run my Lenovo laptops (on a T510 now) for years using the middle button (the "scroll" button) as a plain old middle mouse button. The ultranav tool has always had an option to make it act like a MMB, with no fancy scroll function, etc.
I just bought a new W540, and found, much to my distress, that such an option doesn't seem to exist on the W540! This is very important to me as I run Cygwin X server and rely on the middle mouse button to to paste in Xterms and other X apps. This is a real showstopper for me!
I noticed a "three finger tap" function that's supposed to act as a MMB. But it doesn't seem to work in Cygwin X. Plus, it's not the best solution.
Is there any way to do this with the new Ultranav drivers?
on an L530, when i click and hold the left mouse button on the trackpoint while performing a "sweep" operation -- ie dragging out a rectangular area on the display -- the button doesn't stay held; it prematurely unclicks / releases before i lift my finger off the button.
i had this problem with the original keyboard. i called support, they quickly shipped a replacement keyboard, and almost as quickly the problem reoccurred.
this is annoying, because i frequently perform mouse sweeps (almost exclusively in conjunction with "snipping tool" on win7). invariably, i need to retry the sweep 2,3,4,5,6.... times before i'm successful at getting what i want. and i'm pressing down on the button with significantly more force than should be required.
this isn't a problem that develops over time; it's there from the get-go.
i've phoned in to support again, and they're shipping me a 3rd keyboard. sounds like a design flaw, since the same problem's shown up on 2 keyboards. (progress has been made, however; on the original keyboard, F10 wasn't working reliably either; on the now-in-use 2nd keyboard, F10 works fine.) hope i'm wrong about the chronic failure, and 3rd time's a charm...
sometime in sleep mode my Yoga fall into irresponsive mode without any possibility to do anything. The power button is simply not working - pushing it for more than 30 second not change anything... Yoga red light is slowly blinking, the fn key is lighting, the fan is working, processor is heating and this follows to full drain battery.
Is any possibility to reset or reboot this "thermal brick" Yoga mode? Some computers and tablet have the hard reset button to work with such a situation - have Thinkpad Yoga similar solution (i.e. button combination invoking reset)?
We bought around 40 of these X220 I5 before xmas and now more than 20 of them have failed. The company we bought them from tried everything but they ended up switching the mainboard on the first two that failed.
We were told it was a batch issue with the serial number R9-HNXXX and now all of those are changed into T420. But today we had the same problem with serial number R9-HXXXX that was bought two weeks earlier and with different config - I7 and SSD.
The trackpoint middle scrolling button doesn't work for some of the newer applications such as ITunes, the newest versions of Picasa, Windows Live Mail, Safari, and Windows Live Writer.
Below is a fix applicable to all Windows OS's. The location of the edited file may vary so look in the Device Manager under trackpoint driver details to find driver locations.
The file must be edited as an administrator in Vista and Windows 7. To do this, at the programs box type in notepad and on the notpad program in the menu right click and select, "Run as Administrator."
In Win7 x64 it is located at: (edit with Notepad run as Administrator).

I just got my x230 yesterday and I'm having some weird issues.
(1) whenever my laptop goes to sleep mode. I can't seem to make it wake up. The power button would just slowly blink and would not respond to anything. I would have to hard reset my laptop for it to turn on. When I turn it back on, it would go the "Start windows normally" screen.
(2) whenever I close the lid, I'm guessing it tries to go to sleep mode, then if I wake it up, the system seem to reboot and would go to the "start windows normally" screen.
Both seems to all relates to sleep mode.
I got a X230 with 4GB 1Rx8 PC3-12800S-11-12-B4 memory installed. I tried to upgrade it with two Kingston KVR1066D3S7/4G 1.5V memory sticks.
Unfortunately after installing new memory sticks (combinations don't matter) my laptop doesn't power on. After pressing the button there's just a flash and BIOS doesn't boot.
Everything is back to normal after restoring the previous RAM configuration.
Is there something wrong with my memory sticks or is it some kind of bior issue or maybe something else?
I have just installed the HP 4635 printer to my network. All devices were printing yesterday wirelessly. Today the laptop device has a print job that I have requested to delete. It has said "deleting" for two days and I can not get it "unstuck". each time I send a new print job to the que it goes in line "behind" the print job that is stuck in "deleting" mode. I have tried re-starting. re-booting, ctrl, alt, delete. nothing seeings to get this print job "unstuck" and deleted.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 15r and a Dell v313w I purchased in November 2010, both are wireless and connected through a gateway/router that have been very great over the years but about a year or so ago I noticed each time I would try to print out multiple documents I could only get one document to print out, it could include one sheet or many sheets . Any others documents would be stuck in the print queue listed as " printing " but would never print out unless I restarted the computer then it would print out all documents one after another just as they had been entered complete with all sheets per document accounted for and in correct order.
After the printer had finished printing all the documents if I needed to print another document I would have the same headache all over again and the document would remain in the queue until I restarted the computer again.I'm not a spring chicken by any means and have to think logically went operating the computer or installing software so many of the technical jargon is something I really don't understand.
I have got a thinkpad x61 with win 7 pro x64. A few days ago I installed hotkeys drivers from Lenovo. On Screen Display problem: when I press volume up/down Button the volume decreases completely. I bought it on ebay so don't have any warranty information, unfortunately. It appears to be the LCD connector or cable. Is it possible to open it up and fix that somehow, or should I buy an IPS screen (the current screen isn't IPS I believe) and replace it myself?
My T420 takes about 20 seconds from pushing the power on button to the Lenovo POST screen. After that boot takes about 30 seconds to Desktop. What bothers me is this long wait until I see the POST screen. It doesn't seem normal to me.
My System is setup with Windows 7 64bit booting from UEFI on a mSATA Crucial M500 SSD. It has 16GB of Ram and a i7 CPU. I have the newest BIOS (1.46) installed.
Why it takes this long to reach the POST screen?
