Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: Finger Print Stopped Working For power On And Windows Login
Aug 2, 2013Recently my fingerprint stopped working for power on and Windows login. Fingerprint reader setup utility started to show some strange error followed by empty utility window (see screenshots below).

I have updated all the software using "Lenovo update and drivers" but it did not work (BIOS image also was updated during this process). I doubt that it is hardware fault because I have Linux OS installed as dual boot among with Windows, and no problems there with logging in using fingerprint reader (fingerprint-gui package)...

Aug 17, 2014My finger print reader doesn't work the way it used to. It only asks for my finger print when logging on to Windows. At all other times it only asks for my windows password which is very annoying. What's wrong -it used to work fine. I reformatted my hdd and downloaded the latest drivers and programs using the system update program. My finger print reader version is 3.3.2.27. I have a T400 with Windows 7 Pro.

Is this because it is not standard on the laptop and do you need to pay extra? (Im talking about the NZ/AUS version [url] theres no option to include or exclude it like the US site).
Also is it possible to upgrade from the LCD to LED in the future, if so how much?

I installed the minimal install from the HP Driver page and I was wondering how I could then logon with my fingerprint? Would I have to install some extra software?

Nov 28, 2012I did an upgrade from win vista x32 to win 7 x64 on my Dell Studio 1735. In order to do that upgrade I did change the HDD to a 1 TB and update from 3GB to 4GB ram.
Now I have on item still not working after that upgrade. The integrated biometric (fingerprint reader) refuse to work. Windows 7 x64 did detect that it was an Authentec device, and installed it driver.
But If I installe the software for the reader. It refuse to install and give this as the reason (No driver installed for the reader) I've tried to replace the windows driver with the original Authentec drivers, but windows 7 replace the drivers with it's own.
Any windows 7 drivers out there for my Authentec integrated device ?
Lenovo W530 ThinkPad W Series :: Cannot Power Up Unit
Aug 9, 2014I have a W530 (2436 CTO) ThinkPad purchased 11/10/13. It will not power up.While in use the screen went black, then the unit tried to reboot. Just as Windows began to initiate, the screen went black again. It immediatly tried to restart about three times in quick succession, about 3 seconds long each time. It was powered with the AC adapter at the time with the battery in place. I have tried all combinations with or without the battery or AC. In either mode, the power button lights up for approximately 1-2 seconds, then goes black. I have tried holding in the power button for 30 seconds. Nothing, other than about a 2 second light, then dead.
I have never received any power warning messages, low battery warning or the like. The only unusual behavior I've ever had is about half a dozen times I've had to do a hard power down. But not recently.I have tried the removing and replacing the SSD. I have removed and switched the two memory boards to test for a bad board or bad connector. None of these have solved the problem. I’m guessing the SSD failed, or perhaps a bad BIOS chip. I can easily replace the SSD, but 9 months of moderate use seems like a short lifespan for even an SSD. I can't update the BIOS (if that's the issue) because I can't get the unit powered up.

I remember on my v570 when the user access control came up i had the option and i could type the password or use the finger print. so i was wonder if their is away i could set that up on the thinkvantage fingerprint software so that when the use access control comes up when i'm on my standard user account i could swipe my finger that i use for my admin.

We were told it was a batch issue with the serial number R9-HNXXX and now all of those are changed into T420. But today we had the same problem with serial number R9-HXXXX that was bought two weeks earlier and with different config - I7 and SSD.

Jul 21, 2014On my T410 i was able to save my username and password to my network so that loggin in was super quick.
Sit, swipe, and surf.
Now on my t440s the finger print reader software only allows you to save your password. So i have to:
1. ctrl-alt-delete
2. type my user name
3. swipe (it would be just as fast to type from there)..

Jun 24, 2014I get this spiral symbol (see above image) in place of my mouse indicator when I move my fingers a certain way on the ultranav mousepad.
One way it occurs is if I move my finger from left to right or right to left across the bottom of the ultranav mousepad.
It interferes with me being able to move the mouse. I suspect it is to prevent inadvertant movement of the mouse when your finger just brushed the ultranav mousepad. I would like to turn it off if possible.

Mar 29, 2014I just got a new Lenovo W540. I installed a new Samsung EVO SSD inside to replace the stock mechanical hard drive. I'm now trying to boot from a flash drive to clean install Windows. I've done this so many times before on other laptops and desktops without a problem. For some reason now it will not boot from the flash drive. It shows it as available in the BIOS but it looks like it reads it for just a second and then goes right back to the screen that allows me to choose which drive I want to put to.The same flash drive works fine in other computers to boot to.I did check to make sure the USB drive was not excluded in the BIOS and it is not.

Tried everything and all possible combinations on the fingerprint software. But can't start my machine by swiping. The reader works perfect otherwise. I can pass bios log on to windows etc. But I still have to go through the power on button. I observe that in the new software (unlike in the earlier ones) there are no start on buttons to be clicked above the fingerprints. how to bypass pressing the power on button and start the machine directly by swiping the enrolled finger?

Mar 3, 2014I got a X230 with 4GB 1Rx8 PC3-12800S-11-12-B4 memory installed. I tried to upgrade it with two Kingston KVR1066D3S7/4G 1.5V memory sticks.
Unfortunately after installing new memory sticks (combinations don't matter) my laptop doesn't power on. After pressing the button there's just a flash and BIOS doesn't boot.
Everything is back to normal after restoring the previous RAM configuration.
Is there something wrong with my memory sticks or is it some kind of bior issue or maybe something else?

Oct 13, 2010I have a new W510 but I cannot get the fingerprint reader working for Windows logon. I have the Lenovo fingerprint software installed. It can enroll my fingerprint with ease, which also shows that the reader works. I have turned on the option "use fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into windows". When I restart Windows, I see a fingerprint logon option, but it still defaults to CTRL+ALT+DELETE. When I pick the fingerprint option and scan my fingerprint, the lght blinks twice and nothing happens. I know from my old W510 that I should be seeing a Lenovo Fingerprint icon on the logon screen, but I just cannot get that to display. What have I missed?
The virtual agent was no support - it gives me a setting that doesn't exist, tells me to reboot, tells me that the first time I log in I will need both fingerprint and password, but afterwards it only needs fingerprint.

Dec 13, 2013So I installed Windows 8 (Clean install, no upgrades) on the machine and since then the card reader isnt working. I downloaded and installed the drivers from Lenovo Website and after failing from Driver Genius and then from ThinkVantage System Update 5.03. Still doesn't work, I install them, but after I reboot it is installed but the card reader doesn't work (It was working before on Windows 7 on the same day I installed W8). I updated to 8.1 and the problem continues.

In the device manager it usually shows up, but sometimes doesnt. In the control panel>biometric devices, it shows up less often, usually only after i've clicked "Scan for hardware changes."

Mar 17, 2014I just reveiced my Lenovo Thinkpad x240 20AL000AAU with SD card reader integrated.
I inserted an SD card standard size and the card is read properly, I can access all the files and I can write on it.
The problem is that I cannot extract the card from the SD card slot!
If I right-click on SD card in My Computer and choose eject, it says that it is safe to remove the card. If I select "Safely remove Hardware and eject media" it tells me that it is safe to remove it...but the card is stuck inside!
I read somewhere to press the card until I hear a click but I cannot hear any click.
Also the card is unreachable inside the slot. I cannot grab it to pull it. I can only press it a little bit with the nail, it goes one millimeter inside but I don't hear any click.
