Aug 2, 2013
Recently my fingerprint stopped working for power on and Windows login. Fingerprint reader setup utility started to show some strange error followed by empty utility window (see screenshots below).

I have updated all the software using "Lenovo update and drivers" but it did not work (BIOS image also was updated during this process). I doubt that it is hardware fault because I have Linux OS installed as dual boot among with Windows, and no problems there with logging in using fingerprint reader (fingerprint-gui package)...
I've got an x240 with bios enabled fingerprint and the latest fingerprint driver/utlity installed, a fingerprint registered and all the options checked for fingerprint to be integrated and boot.
When the laptop is powered off the fingerprint swipe doesn't boot the machine, no LED on it, it's dead. How do I make fingerprint power on work? When the laptop is in sleep mode the fingerprint swipe doesn't boot the machine, no LED on it, it's dead. How do I make fingerprint resume from standby work? When win7 boots and it's at the CTRL+ALT+DEL login screen the fingerprint LED is green, a fingerprint swipe does nothing. How do I get single sign on to work?Only when I manually hit CTRL+ALT+DEL will the Fingerprint graphic then show on screen, at that point the swipe works. How do get the fingerprint to log me in without any manual intervention? The x201 I had previously did all this without an issue.
Sometimes the machine does not show any wireless networks and I have been able to solve it by turning on and off the hardware switch for wireless on the back of the machine. This time I can not get the machine to find any wireless networks. I am running XP. The only think different that I noticed is that MS Security Essesntials has ended support for XP.
For whatever reason my ringerprint reader stopped working. I've uninstalled and re-installed the driver, software and done just about everything I can find online.
In the device manager it usually shows up, but sometimes doesnt. In the control panel>biometric devices, it shows up less often, usually only after i've clicked "Scan for hardware changes."
I have a 2014 X1 Carbon (Gen 2) and my ethernet dongle stopped working this morning. It worked fine for the past 3 weeks but after rebooting this morning i can't get to get access to the network via the ethernet port anymore. The port's activity lights don't light up and a network connection is never recognized.
I have checked the Device Manager and verified that I have the latest drivers (12.11.77.1 for Intel I218-LM), and made sure that the Power Settings do not allow the port to go to sleep. I have also tried 3 different ethernet dongles, all behaving the same way.
I was able to use a USB-to-Ethernet dongle to get access with a ethernet cable. Is my port just dead? I don't see any visible damage, or loose connectors.
My laptop is ideapad z510 and os is windows 8.1All action and gestures are working in elan touchpad except two finger pad (Right Click)I searched the forum and found that the synaptic driver can fix this problem, but when I want to install it tell me that this system does not have any synaptic touchpad!I test both lastest update from Lenovo and Microsoft for touchpad driver, but didn't solve this problem!
I have recently purchased Vostro 3550 with Finger Print reader. After i updating all drivers and checked in dell diagnostic also. Nothing happen to no response for my reader. I purchased 07-05-02012.It haven't worked while i purchased itself and i updated all drivers
Problem :2
ST MICRO SCREEN DETECTION SENSOR ISN'T COMPATIBLE WITH THIS VERSION OF WINDOWS - ? Wat i need to do for this???????????
I have checked through installing Free fall data protection. it shows nothing.
The Biometric Fingerprint device on my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop is not working. I get the message:
1. The Fingerprint reader is not detected (during start up prior to logging in). 2. Windows did not find any biometric devices on this computer ( when I checked via Control Panel).
I went into this challenge when I reinstalled my windows 7 o/s after I realised I had some corrupted files and so could not install an HP printer on my computer. Unfortunately I did not have the original restoration file so I had to do reformating and reinstallation of the o/s.
I have an acer travelMate 8573 gt and I recently downloaded the drivers for the fionger print reader for the acer website but I can't make it to work because I don't have the acer pro shield where can i get it. How I can use to make my finger print reader to work...
My HP ProBook 440 G2, Finger print reader not working when I upgraded form Win 7 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro. In device manager showing that biometric reader is working properly. But actually the finger printer reader is not reading or senseing. It seems like "dummy" part.
I tried plugging several devices into a USB 3.0 port on my z510 this morning to no avail. The USB 2.0 port is working(I have a mouse plugged into it and it works fine) but the USB 3 ports will not work at all. I tried looking at device manager; it says everything is working properly. Power management doesn't turn any of the ports off.
It was working fine 2 days ago. Is it possible to turn the ports off? Because nothing is being recognized.
I looked for drivers on Lenovo's site; no USB drivers for windows 8.1 at ALL. What do I do?
My finger print reader doesn't work the way it used to. It only asks for my finger print when logging on to Windows. At all other times it only asks for my windows password which is very annoying. What's wrong -it used to work fine. I reformatted my hdd and downloaded the latest drivers and programs using the system update program. My finger print reader version is 3.3.2.27. I have a T400 with Windows 7 Pro.
Well I use my own laptop as a admin/standard user I use my standard user account mostly. I remember on my v570 when the user access control came up i had the option and i could type the password or use the finger print. so i was wonder if their is away i could set that up on the thinkvantage fingerprint software so that when the use access control comes up when i'm on my standard user account i could swipe my finger that i use for my admin.
I get this spiral symbol (see above image) in place of my mouse indicator when I move my fingers a certain way on the ultranav mousepad.
One way it occurs is if I move my finger from left to right or right to left across the bottom of the ultranav mousepad.
It interferes with me being able to move the mouse. I suspect it is to prevent inadvertant movement of the mouse when your finger just brushed the ultranav mousepad. I would like to turn it off if possible.
I bought my Y500 a few days ago and happy with it in general. However, one day the two-finger-tap (for right click) on the touchpad stopped working. Below is a description.
Everything else as far as I can tell, including two-finger scroll and one-finger tap and so forth, are working fine, but the two-finger tap stopped working even though it worked fine for a few days. I have a suspicious as to what caused it but I'm not entirely sure. In any case I think it's most likely a bug, and probably software.
One day I went into "control panel" -> "mouse" -> "device settings" -> "settings..." -> "Scrolling" -> "two-finger scrolling" -> "enable coasting". I played with coasting for a while, and soon disabled it again because I didn't really like it. However, it was then that I noticed that my two-finger tap stopped working. I have doubled-checked that "control panel" -> "mouse" -> "device settings" -> "settings..." -> "clicking" -> "two-finger click" is set to "secondary click (context menu, special drag)", but the two-finger click still doesn't work, even after a restarted. I downloaded the latest driver (version 16.2.18.0) and it still didn't work. I uninstalled the driver and installed it again and it still doesn't work. Now I like using the touchpad, but really hate living without two-finger tap for right-clicking.
I upgraded xp to win 7, like we all are going to have to do, but can't get the finger print reader to work. It does show in devices that there is one on the machine. I downloaded the drivers for Vista but they got me nowhere.
I bought my Y580 about a month ago and it has been great. The only problems I've been having with it is with the touchpad. About a week ago the synaptics software on here started to shutdown at random and things like two finger scrolling and swiping from the sides would all stop working. I searched around and downloaded updated software both from synaptic's website and from lenovo driver support. The newest ones from lenovo are the only ones that don't quit at random but now the only thing that doesn't like to work still is the two finger tap to right click. Sometimes it'll work for the first ten min when I first turn the laptop on but then it'll quit. Two finger click sometimes works for right click but not always and two finger tap for right click never works any more.
I did an upgrade from win vista x32 to win 7 x64 on my Dell Studio 1735. In order to do that upgrade I did change the HDD to a 1 TB and update from 3GB to 4GB ram.
Now I have on item still not working after that upgrade. The integrated biometric (fingerprint reader) refuse to work. Windows 7 x64 did detect that it was an Authentec device, and installed it driver.
But If I installe the software for the reader. It refuse to install and give this as the reason (No driver installed for the reader) I've tried to replace the windows driver with the original Authentec drivers, but windows 7 replace the drivers with it's own.
Any windows 7 drivers out there for my Authentec integrated device ?
I have been using the Communications Utility (Lenovo - Web Conferencing) when I first bought the laptop, a few months ago everything was fine. But now when I press F5 (hotkey for camera options) there is a pop up with massage "Communication Utility Main UI has stopped working".
Everything is fine in Device Manager.
Is it a hardware problem? Is there a way to check?
I have a brand new W540 with Windows 8.1 running. Some Fn-Keys are working, for example Fn+F2 for the volume. But I have some keys which are not working: Fn+F5 or Fn+F6 should change the LCD brightness.
Why these keys are not working? All updates are applied (Lenovo and Windows)...
So I installed Windows 8 (Clean install, no upgrades) on the machine and since then the card reader isnt working. I downloaded and installed the drivers from Lenovo Website and after failing from Driver Genius and then from ThinkVantage System Update 5.03. Still doesn't work, I install them, but after I reboot it is installed but the card reader doesn't work (It was working before on Windows 7 on the same day I installed W8). I updated to 8.1 and the problem continues.
I upgraded my w520 from Win 7 to Win 8 last year with zero problems. Now I upgraded my W520 Win 8 to Win 8.1 via the store download. Except the webcam everything works fine.
In e.g. the Skype desktop application, Google Hangouts or the camera app, the built in webcam no longer works.
The green light turns on, but I just get the crossed out camra icon in e.g. the Skype video options. No video.
I see there are no drivers yet for Win 8.1 on the Lenovo support site for the w520 camera. In device manager it still shows the 2011 camera driver 1.1.0.1147 and says "This device is working properly."
But it does not work properly. How to get the camera to work or is it just a matter of waiting for a driver to be released eventually?
I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, camera is enabled in the Bios and permissions are set to give Skype and the camera app access to the camera. I also tried the W530 drives as was suggested elsewhere.
