I keep getting a message on my laptop: Catalyst control center: host application has stopped working.
This has started happening after I tried to do a BIOS update last week and I ended up with the blue screen of death & had to recover my whole laptop.
This message came with a Microsoft update in about April 2014. I am running:
HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC
Product Name D5F64PA#ABG
Windows 8.1 64-bit
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 and AMD Radeon HD 7600M Series
S440. I prefer to use the function keys F1-F12 without using the Fn key. It seems like in other models there is an option in the BIOS to change this, but not on my machine. Also the Lenovo software nor Windows configuration seems to be able to change this. Is there anyway to do this?

View 4 Replies View Relatedi have downloaded Catalyst Control Center several times but it is still not working. I have Paviliion dv6-6120se, AMD radeon hd 6490M and built-in intel GPU hd 3000 both GPUs is working fine but the problem started when i uninstalled the Catalyst Control Center in order to get a new updated one from AMD website. But the AMD site said my version of radeon hd 6490M is not supported anyway i have tried everything i uninstalled the ATI GPU driver and install it again. Somehow I downloaded Catalyst Control Center the and the installation finished and the same problem it is still not working. Now i lost the Catalyst Control Center and the switchable graphics config.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an S440. I've had it for one week. Two days ago I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store. Since then, when I start up the computer, it doesn't even taken me to the 'sign in' screen. There's just a black screen. When I move the cursor, it briefly appears, flickers, then disappears again.
I understand this is an issue with the graphics drivers. So I ran Windows in safemode and disabled Intel R HD Graphics family and AMD Radeon HD 8600 series graphics drivers.
This, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the problem. It still boots to a black screen with an occasionally flickering cursor. I'm currently running in safemode.
when I try to install the Windows 8 copy I got with my Lenovo S440 in a virtual box environment
the installation procedure hangs on the windows splash screen. I never saw a Windows 8 installation
procedure before, so I booted my laptop from the installation media to check if it is corrupted.
This works fine. A loading dot circle is displayed under the logo after a few seconds and than after quiet
a while the lenovo wizard is shown... so it has to be an issue with the virtual box.
I attached a screenshot to show you where it hangs.
After reading many reviews here, I finally ordered and received my Studio XPS with the RGBLED screen. I felt the reds were a little harsh so I made a few adjustments in Catalyst Control Center that seemed to help.
But I still wanted to make a few more adjustments...So before I got too deep I checked and saw there was an updated driver. So now I updated the driver and it seemed to install okay except now the Catalyst Control Center won't open.
I wanted to update my ATI CCC driver. So I downloaded the latest ccc, uninstalled from from my laptop, restarted, installed latest ccc, restarted. Now when I start windows 7 the little icon doesnt show up in the system tray.
I have an ati mobility radeon 4200 on windows 7 x64.
My laptop model is HP Envy 6 1178-sai just updated my graphic card (AMD 7670HD series to driver 13.251.0.0) and now the Catalyst Control Centre application is not opening at all, not even an error sign pops upwhat should i do?
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is dell inspirion 5520 with core i5, 8GB memory and amd radeon HD 7670M. When i bought adm radeon switchable graphic works ok. Yesterday, I update the graphic driver. version is 8.933.3.4 from dell website.
Previous version is 8.933.3.0.
After updating, catalyst control center can't load. So, I roll back previous driver version but the catalyst control center can't load.
I think switchable graphic not work.
I have a Thinkpad Twist. I started it up and got a thermal sensing error before the boot screen. I looked up the error on various forums, tried turning it off to see if the message would still be there. When I rebooted it, it went away. Should I still be concerned for the fan or CPU?
My laptop has been overheating before this, but it's never shut itself down, even after the error message.
Sometimes the machine does not show any wireless networks and I have been able to solve it by turning on and off the hardware switch for wireless on the back of the machine. This time I can not get the machine to find any wireless networks. I am running XP. The only think different that I noticed is that MS Security Essesntials has ended support for XP.

This started happening to me a couple of weeks ago (I've had the computer since December and haven't noticed a problem. I sent it in twice and supposedly, they replaced the whole machine this last time, but I'm still having the problem. Could this be a fault in this model in general?

In the device manager it usually shows up, but sometimes doesnt. In the control panel>biometric devices, it shows up less often, usually only after i've clicked "Scan for hardware changes."
I have 13" thinkpad yoga that will not auto rotate in any mode, this macine is new and the auto rotate function has never worked.

Suddenly my FN stops working if the keyboard is on F1-F12 keys. No reaction when pressing it.
If I go into the settings and change default to something else, I can press FN until it again show F1-F12 - After that is stuck on the function keys?
I have a 2014 X1 Carbon (Gen 2) and my ethernet dongle stopped working this morning. It worked fine for the past 3 weeks but after rebooting this morning i can't get to get access to the network via the ethernet port anymore.
The port's activity lights don't light up and a network connection is never recognized.
I have checked the Device Manager and verified that I have the latest drivers (12.11.77.1 for Intel I218-LM), and made sure that the Power Settings do not allow the port to go to sleep. I have also tried 3 different ethernet dongles, all behaving the same way.
I was able to use a USB-to-Ethernet dongle to get access with a ethernet cable. Is my port just dead? I don't see any visible damage, or loose connectors.

I've updated my Intel Wireless LAN Driver to 17.0.2.5 and since then every time I close the lid (I'm connected through a OneLink docking station) the wifi stop functioning normal (connects to network but shows "Limited" and practically not functioning). If I open back the lid everything goes back to normal, either directly on the laptop or while still working through the docking station.
I'm using a Yoga S1....
Sorry to bother folks with this nuisance, however, I updated my ATI Mobility Radeon 4650 drivers via Dell's website to 8.65 and ever since, the Catalyst Control Center refuses to run. I politely click on it, the machine thinks for a while and then, rather rudely, simply ignores my request.
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe issue was in regards to WiFi not working properly on my Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga S1. After a restart my computer's internet (with WiFi on) would work for a few minutes then it would stop. Long story short, I tried various things, and even uninstalled Norton and other software which I thought may have been a culprit but still the same issue. I also used a USB to Ethernet port (since there is no built in Ethernet port in the ThinkPad Yoga) and connected my computer with a cable and disabled the WiFi to see if it was the wireless hardware not working. Unfortunately still the same issue.
Finally I noticed in the Windows Task Manager a process called "Discover.exe". It turned out this was using some noticeable amount of CPU and wondered what this was doing as I hadn't seen that before. I found out that this was a piece of software bundled in with my computer called Lenovo EMC Storage Connector. I'm not sure why it was running but I ended this process.
Suddenly my internet was working again! This time no problems. I uninstalled this software utility to make sure this doesn't cause this issue again.
Recently my fingerprint stopped working for power on and Windows login. Fingerprint reader setup utility started to show some strange error followed by empty utility window (see screenshots below).

I have updated all the software using "Lenovo update and drivers" but it did not work (BIOS image also was updated during this process). I doubt that it is hardware fault because I have Linux OS installed as dual boot among with Windows, and no problems there with logging in using fingerprint reader (fingerprint-gui package)...
Is there anyway to disable the center scroll button on the x-240 trackpad. I keep hitting it when I try to use the left mouse button. I never use the scroll button and want to get rid of it. The new trackpad's design is horrible with the undefined buttons.

I get the message right after I log in. I can access my desktop and the Internet, but the taskbar with the programs at the top is missing.
When I go to Explorer, my laptop also can't find any of my libraries (documents, pictures, etc.).
Anyone else has experienced a similar problem? It happened yesterday...
The Airplane mode button has stopped working. Not sure when, but could be well after updating. Everything else works well.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Yoga 13 and have been avoiding the 8.1 update but was forced upon me yesterday. Media player stopped working but found the update on this site.
However all old videos now play fine but new ones taken today will not and just says 'Windows Media Player has stopped working'.
I have my lenovo x230 laptop set to sleep when I close the lid. When I close the lid the "sleep" icon on the back of the screen lights up. But the batter will not last through the night on sleep mode. Within five hours or so, the battery is completely drained and I have to plug in and boot up the system. I've never seen such poor batter performance during sleep mode on any other laptop I've ever owned.
Another thread in this forum blames the USB port that allows you to charge mobile phones/etc. during low-power states and recommends disabling the "always power on" option fo this USB port in the Bios settings. At least my laptop still will not make it through the night in sleep mode.
At this point, it seems my ownly option is to use sleep mode only when the laptop is plugged in and hibernation mode when on batter power, which is disappointing. I've never had to worry about this in the past with other laptops. Perhaps/probably related is the fact that the lenovo ThinkVantage Power Manager (v. 7.16) hangs at the splash screen when I try to open it, so I've been trying to manage the power through the windows control panel power settings.
I have an L540 refurb I got a couple months ago, and the webcam suddenly stopped working. Here's what it looks like when I try to use it anywhere.
