View 4 RepliesAfter updating to brand new BIOS from Jan. 19th I cannot boot anymore into Windows 8.1 - always get INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. Tried to repair using a Windows 8.1 USB Stick, no success. Even downgrading to 1.08 did not work as well!
View 1 Replies View RelatedW540 20BG001CGE, had BIOS 1.05 and RAID 1 with two Samsung 840 EVO 1TB working fine under Windows 7 - x64. Did a (by lenovo update tool recommended) BIOS Update with the bios update manager to 2.05. Update ran fine. After Rebooting (and loading defaults, disabling Intel Rapid Start, Changing BIOS boot option to legacy first ... I recognized SATA Option (AHCI or RAID) in BIOS is gone. At boot Intel Matrix Storage Configuration doesnot appear anymore (where you can build RAID etc).
Boot then brings up message "missing operating system".
Downgrade to BIOS 1.05 impossible, due to ISO File on www.lenovo.com support is not system compatible, message "Lenovo Group Limited - Invalid system disk; Replace te disk, and then press any key")
(The link to the ISO File version 1.05 at the bottom of this page links a non bootable ISO image [URL]....)
Also the downgrade to BIOS version 1.08 found here [URL] .... does not work, CD also messages "Lenovo Group Limited - Invalid system disk - Replace ...").
Rewriting BIOS version 2.05 (GNET57WW) does not work (says "BIOS update not necessary").
Embedded Controller Version GMHT25WW (1.10) ME Firmware Version 9.0.22.1467. How to get back my RAID controller?
Both me and a friend of mine have Lenovo W540s. Everything was working perfectly fine with all of our hardware, until today. A BIOS update came out and installed correctly on both of our machines. After this update both of our UltraNAV features on the trackpad are all dead. After that first restart a message appeared "finding new hardware" and it found a generic mouse on the laptop. Now when I try to re-install the UltraNav drivers, it says no hardware found. I tried both the drivers on Lenovo.com and the manufacture's website all with no luck.
How to fix our UltraNav pads?

I have a thinkpad W500 and I'm reinstalling Windows 7 after years of running linux (I got tired of my video drivers being unsupported due to the age of the card). However, when I attempt to install system update, I get the message "an error occured while gathering user information" and I cannot continue. How can I get the switchable graphics, power, and keyboard drivers properly installed? I don't really care about the rest of the software, it just that system update is the only way I know of to get it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedToday I updated two Lenovo drivers (ACPI and Sound). After the installation I was asked to restart my Laptop. The restart did not finish and the system showed the bluescreen for a short time and the it restarted with the system recovery. All attempts to repair the system with Windows recovery were not successfull. I am still not able to start my Laptop.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion dv6-6154tx laptop. My current version of BIOS installed is Hewlett-Packard F.1B, 05/10/11.I wanted to check if my BIOS is up to date, and if there was a newer version of BIOS available.
So I went to the HP Support page for laptops (URL...) and chose Pavilion Notebooks > Models dv4000 to dv6999 > dv6000 Entertainment Notebook PC series > Matching products outside the United States.
But alas, I could not find my laptop's model listed there. There's dv6150tx and then it jumps to dv6161ea, but no dv6154tx. Is there any other way I can update my laptop's BIOS?
Lenovo settings on my X1 Carbon 3444CTO, bought January 2013, will not finish. I have staring at spinning dots for two days now.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am unable to update the BIOS on the Thinkpad listed below.I have tried to run Boot CD version of the update program (using CD player in dock) and it reports the error:"The system program file is not correct for this system"..The Windows based BIOS update program reports the error (in or out of dock):
"The process does not recognize this system. The process has been cancelled"..The Lenovo support page lists the new BIOS as being appropriate for this model. The BIOS reports the correct model and serial number.I desire to update the BIOS only as part of a software reload / refresh of the laptop. No actual problem with current BIOS to my knowledge.

I just updated my ThinkPad W520 using the System Update utility and after rebooting I realize that the battery icon is totally gray and shows the message "Battery not installed". Checking the installations log of System Update I see
-Lenovo Power Management Driver 1.67.04.05
-Power Manager for Windows 7 6.66.1
And the Windows battery icon shows the info correctly. Is there any way to uninstall the updates?
I recently upgraded my ThinkPad W530 laptop BIOS from version 1.11 (which it shipped with) to the latest, version 2.59.
After doing so, my two 16 GB DIMMS are not only showing up as 8 GB each, thereby cutting my usable memory in half from 32 GB to 16 GB.
I ran through all the normal hardware checks to ensure that one of the DIMMS wasn't bad. I tried each DIMM separately, tried in different slots, etc. They both show up just fine and even pass the memory quick test in the BIOS. Only, they are showing up as 8 GB DIMMs.
Is there a feature in the latest BIOS that would somehow limit this? It was working fine at 32 GB before.
And, unfortunately, there is no reverting back to BIOS v.1.11 from anything after v.2.55. It asked me if I was sure I wanted to proceed...this was the last type of problem I expected to see though. (I also tried reverting back to previous versions of the BIOS that were allowed and it didn't work...
I recently bought an X240 and have this shutdown problems. Before it was caused by Norton anti-virus so I uninstalled it, then the laptop was working fine. Now, after some Windows update, it doesn't shutdown again. What is wrong with this laptop?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI bought windows 8 .1 machine from factory. Then I had local shop install 8.1 on larger ssd. I just performed latest bios update and now machine will not boot. I am sure this is uefi related but I am not knowledgable in that area. The boot parameter returned to me by the shop was "legacy only" and secure boot was disabled.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI got a thinkpad w530 with Windowd 8 from the factory and its ultrabay worked really well. I use a few SSDs in the ultrabay and used to swap through them by just ejecting the one currently in use and plugging in another one. However, since Wondows 8.1 update I haven.t been able to do so, as I have to turn off the machine and change the drives.
I believe it has something to do with the OS set up. How to enable the hot swapping capability of the ultrabay?
My surround sound was incredible! But now after the latest updates, I can hardly hear the actors speaking due to the surround sound being so loud. How can I fix this? Or how can I "undo" the update? I have a Carbon X1 ....
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter the latest set of updates, my touchpad took to displaying a stationary gray circle/swirl half the time when I tried to move the cursor. Seemed to happen less if I moved very slowly. I turned off scrolling (again), and it's mostly gone away. Is this related to scrolling?

It's been a yeah that i work on this X1 Carbon laptop and no default. I got a windows update yesterday, i did it and my computer powered off naturally. This morning, i cant start it, It boot well, Lenovo sign appear but nothing after. only black screen with blinking underscore.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an S440. I've had it for one week. Two days ago I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store. Since then, when I start up the computer, it doesn't even taken me to the 'sign in' screen. There's just a black screen. When I move the cursor, it briefly appears, flickers, then disappears again.
I understand this is an issue with the graphics drivers. So I ran Windows in safemode and disabled Intel R HD Graphics family and AMD Radeon HD 8600 series graphics drivers.
This, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the problem. It still boots to a black screen with an occasionally flickering cursor. I'm currently running in safemode.
I have a Yoga 2 Pro. How can I find out if I need to update the BIOS?
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy new W540 has the latest bios & software updates. It won't wake up from sleep...or rather the display won't come on. When I push the power button (pulsing green), it goes to solid green and the fingerprint scanner light turns on, but no screen. I scan my fingerprint and the scanner light turns off, but still no screen. The only way to bring it back to life is a long press on the power button and a reboot.
Nothing plugged into any of the ports. It does this regardless of whether it's plugged in or on battery.
I am considering replacing the original 512 MB HDD that came with my W540 to SSD with similar capacity.
From what I read, the performance difference is huge
I am using - Win 7 pro and my reason buying this beast is solid CAD drafting
Anything special I need to know regarding BIOS, driver setup, other issues, SSD recommendations?
I have just ordered a w540 and I'm wondering if I can add a second hard drive (actually what I want to install is an SSD) to it. In which case I failed to find the appropriate message...
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have tested the following on 2 identical W540 machines. After installing Windows 8.1, the internal camera is not working. View 9 Replies View RelatedI waited a long time for this new W540. Downlkoad all the newest drivers and did all the updates and now this POS will not shut down. Just goes to a black screen and have to hold the power button to force a shut down.
When I try to reboot the screen goes to black right after the home screen with a twirling cursor. Had to send my new W530 back for hard drive failure and now this W540 is screwed, too!
When I put my laptop to sleep or it sits idle for a period of time and goes to sleep on it's own it stops recognizing the laptop monitor. It will still display on other monitors connected through the docking station, but not the laptop. It doesn't matter if I put it to sleep while on the dock or off the dock, it never recognizes the monitor.
I have an Intel HD Grpahics 4600, and an NVIDIA Quadro K1100M video cards. I've checked drivers for both and they both say they are up to date (9/29/14 for Intel, and 09/12/2014 for NVIDIA). I have also updated every possible thing in the Lenovo System Update.
This problem occured after switching from windows 7 to windows 8.1.I have also lost the ability to control the brightness of my laptop monitor through my computer at any point in time. The function keys don't work, and the setting is not shown on my power manager.
I recieved the W540 a few days ago, and I see there is a slot behind the battery for a SIM card, I tried using my SIM card and I still can't use mobile broadband. Can I use mobile broadband on the W540? do I need any drivers? and if I can't use it, can I buy something like this for the expresscard slot and insert the SIM in the slot behind the battery?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI got my w540 in about 2 weeks ago, and finally had a chance to start migrating everything to it last week. I bring my laptop(s) to and from work everyday and right now I'm bringing a w520 and my new w540. But everyday since I started bringing my w540 home with me when I get home the laptop is running when I take it out of my bag.
So yesterday and this morning, I made 100% sure the laptop was in sleep mode and nothing was running before I put the laptop in the bag. I get to work 15 minutes later and the laptop bag is about 150 degrees because the w540 is running even through the lid is closed.
