After the latest set of updates, my touchpad took to displaying a stationary gray circle/swirl half the time when I tried to move the cursor. Seemed to happen less if I moved very slowly. I turned off scrolling (again), and it's mostly gone away. Is this related to scrolling?

I am sure this is uefi related but I am not knowledgable in that area. The boot parameter returned to me by the shop was "legacy only" and secure boot was disabled.

All of a sudden, when I undocked it (after shutting down normally), the only thing that appeared on the display was a whitish image containing a dark grey vertical band (left), which happens to be the Lenovo splash screen background! The laptop runs perfectly fine when docked because it attaches to an external monitor. I tried fiddling with the Yoga's display panel, rotating through its various configurations and, after a while, a partial windows screen did appear although it flickered and, even still, nothing displayed properly in that left most vertical strip! Ran norton antivirus didn't catch anything. checked register disks everything ok. the computer is working fine except it just keeps flashing off and on again.
I tried rebooting removing battery nothing works. the only msg i received was a box that said wireless configuration OLE initialization failed, make sure that the OLE libraries the correct version. I am running windows home premiun 7.
I have a severe problem (I guess) after the latest BIOS Update. Windows 7 freezes during startup.
I own a 64-bit Lenovo FLex 2 15D with AMD A6-6310 and R4, 4GB RAM and a SSHD (8GBSSH). I purchased it without OS and installed Windows 7 - which worked fine so far.
I yesterday updated the BIOS with version 9FCN23WW (for Win7 and Win8), the latest BIOS update. A mistake, it seems.
After Reboot, I first had to disable Secure Boot in the BIOS, because it would not let me boot at all. I figured out how to get into the BIOS-Setup to disable this (press Enter 2x, press Tab when in the Boot Menu to access the "Apps Menu", then "SETUP").
Now Win7 begins to start up, but freezes during the startup process (the splash screen with the win flag freezes and looks a bit strange. I used the "protected mode" Windows Startup and saw that the process always hangs when loading "amdkmpfd.sys".
That is basically it.I guess I have to find a way to re-install the previous version of the BIOS.
Now about what I did to fix this (poor, but I tried):
If I try to start from a Win7 installation CD-ROM (actually it is one for Dell PCs, but I guess that is not the problem) and press a key to boot from CD, Windows loads files, shows "Starting Windows" and at a certain point again just freezes. When I -do not- press a key, WIndows Boot Manager shows up and mentions that "Windows failed to start (etc.)" "File: EFIMicrosoftBootBCD" "An Error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data."
I can't even boot into Linux on a USB stick, because the Windows "Error Recovery" won't let me when I try (just offers to boot to Win7 in protected mode - it could be that it fails immediately and jumps back to Win Startup).
My Lenovo touchpad is unresponsive after an update by avast that requires a reboot. I have no way to log in at this point. Is there a way around this? How do I fix it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI mostly use a mouse and I am getting annoying mouse pointer jumps when I inadvertantly touch the touchpad while typing. It seems like just pressure on the area outside of the touchpad is enough to make the pointer jump. I would like the touchpad to be disabled when a mouse is present on the system and be enabed when no mouse is present. I would not want to be caught having to find my way to the Control Panel using keystrokes.It does not seem like this is possible so I am hoping that Lenovo is monitoring these posts.

However, when I attempt to install system update, I get the message "an error occured while gathering user information" and I cannot continue. How can I get the switchable graphics, power, and keyboard drivers properly installed? I don't really care about the rest of the software, it just that system update is the only way I know of to get it.

I just updated my ThinkPad W520 using the System Update utility and after rebooting I realize that the battery icon is totally gray and shows the message "Battery not installed". Checking the installations log of System Update I see

-Power Manager for Windows 7 6.66.1
And the Windows battery icon shows the info correctly. Is there any way to uninstall the updates?
I recently upgraded my ThinkPad W530 laptop BIOS from version 1.11 (which it shipped with) to the latest, version 2.59.
After doing so, my two 16 GB DIMMS are not only showing up as 8 GB each, thereby cutting my usable memory in half from 32 GB to 16 GB.
I ran through all the normal hardware checks to ensure that one of the DIMMS wasn't bad. I tried each DIMM separately, tried in different slots, etc. They both show up just fine and even pass the memory quick test in the BIOS. Only, they are showing up as 8 GB DIMMs.
Is there a feature in the latest BIOS that would somehow limit this? It was working fine at 32 GB before.
And, unfortunately, there is no reverting back to BIOS v.1.11 from anything after v.2.55. It asked me if I was sure I wanted to proceed...this was the last type of problem I expected to see though. (I also tried reverting back to previous versions of the BIOS that were allowed and it didn't work...
After updating to brand new BIOS from Jan. 19th I cannot boot anymore into Windows 8.1 - always get INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. Tried to repair using a Windows 8.1 USB Stick, no success. Even downgrading to 1.08 did not work as well!

After flash and restart I can hear only beeps 1-3-3-1. I have tried to find solution to recover BIOS but no luck. Solution with wincrisis does not work for me. View 7 Replies View RelatedWhen I've got my ThinkPad w530, there was (as usually at every ThinkPad laptop) UltaNav enhanced setting dialog (if I remember correctly, these settings resided at the last tab of OS mouse settings dialog - Control Panel -> Mouse). I have spent a lot of time to configure touchpad according to my needs.
But than I've updated my Windows 7 x64, as Microsoft recommended, and installed some hardware drivers and user applications... And at some moment I've suddenly discovered, that the touchpad and the stickpoint do not work anymore the way I've configured them. Yes, they work, but in the most basic default mode.
Furthermore, when I tried to look at the configuration dialog I had used before to configure them, I found, that this settings dialog is totally gone.
Now my Windows Control Panel mouse setting menu looks as the following screenshot: [URL] ....
Is there any way to restore (re-activate) manually Lenovo UltraNav settings dialog for the touchpad and the stickpoint?
I get this spiral symbol (see above image) in place of my mouse indicator when I move my fingers a certain way on the ultranav mousepad.
One way it occurs is if I move my finger from left to right or right to left across the bottom of the ultranav mousepad.
It interferes with me being able to move the mouse. I suspect it is to prevent inadvertant movement of the mouse when your finger just brushed the ultranav mousepad. I would like to turn it off if possible.
I got a thinkpad w530 with Windowd 8 from the factory and its ultrabay worked really well. I use a few SSDs in the ultrabay and used to swap through them by just ejecting the one currently in use and plugging in another one. However, since Wondows 8.1 update I haven.t been able to do so, as I have to turn off the machine and change the drives.
I believe it has something to do with the OS set up. How to enable the hot swapping capability of the ultrabay?
W540 20BG001CGE, had BIOS 1.05 and RAID 1 with two Samsung 840 EVO 1TB working fine under Windows 7 - x64. Did a (by lenovo update tool recommended) BIOS Update with the bios update manager to 2.05. Update ran fine. After Rebooting (and loading defaults, disabling Intel Rapid Start, Changing BIOS boot option to legacy first ... I recognized SATA Option (AHCI or RAID) in BIOS is gone. At boot Intel Matrix Storage Configuration doesnot appear anymore (where you can build RAID etc).
Boot then brings up message "missing operating system".
Downgrade to BIOS 1.05 impossible, due to ISO File on www.lenovo.com support is not system compatible, message "Lenovo Group Limited - Invalid system disk; Replace te disk, and then press any key")

Also the downgrade to BIOS version 1.08 found here [URL] .... does not work, CD also messages "Lenovo Group Limited - Invalid system disk - Replace ...").
