Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X200s Flacky Wireless Latch
Nov 6, 2008My new X200s has a flacky wireless latch.
Sometimes windows gives the message that all wireless radios are now off. So as if I've switched the hardware switch. But I didn't touch anything.
I think it is hardware related because sometimes I can just yently touch the switch and windows will be telling me that the radios are on again. It is not so much of a problem, but it happens every few hours and fixing it would be nice.
I've removed the keyboard and the palmrest, but the cardbus (?) is still preventing me from having a closer look. Don't know if I can get any closer without removing the entire mainboard. Because that would be a bit too much.

Nov 6, 2008I am trying to share my 3g connection to my other devices. My internet is working on my laptop. I've enabled mobile hotspot in access connectoins, I've connected a 2nd device and the device is properly showing up as a connected device. But when I try to load a webpage on my 2nd device, it times out. I tried also with other devices (ipad, android phone), but to no avail.

Mar 9, 2013I have a brand new W540 with Windows 8.1 running. Some Fn-Keys are working, for example Fn+F2 for the volume. But I have some keys which are not working: Fn+F5 or Fn+F6 should change the LCD brightness.
Why these keys are not working? All updates are applied (Lenovo and Windows)...

Dec 28, 2013I bought a T510 few days ago and was surprised to see this machine has ridiculously low volume. I have tried everything including the tweaks in Smart audio and removing audio limiter but still the volume is very low. On my dell 1525, I never go past 40% volume on my headphones but on T51o, I am using 90-100% volume to watch videos on live streaming websites.
Is there any solution to boost the volume on T510? My system is with windows 7 ultimate (64-bit) and audio device is Conexant 20585.

Jan 11, 2013So this is about the only issue I have with Windows8 on my laptop, I've tried various audio drivers from OEM provided
to drivers directly from the Realtek site and I can't seem to remedy the issue....
Only during charging of my laptop or when the laptop is on battery does the jittery/distorted audio playback occur. Happens during Flash playback or local media playback using say VLC, sometimes the distortion can Freeze or lock up the system.....
I've tried Audio Drivers, Video and my BIOS is the latest. This playback issue did not occur under Windows7 when I had it installed....

Feb 11, 2015I have noticed that on my Lenovo Y50 Windows 8.1 64 bit when I play video files (mp4 or mkv) on both VLC player or Windows Media player or this other Video app that is installed by default on Windows 8.1 they are all laggy. The only difference is how they are laggy on each software, VLC for instance gets like invert colour grey kind of lasting 3-5 seconds inserts. On WMP it slows down and then speeds up quickly to catch up every 15- 20 seconds lasting for a bout 3 seconds and very similar issue on Video app. There is no problem with online videos, only what's on my computer.
I have checked my video drivers, seems to be up to date.

I pushed the "Install this driver software anyway" but the hardware still wasn't recognized after installation/reboot.
So I installed instead of that the Lenovo Energy Management Software Ver 7.0.3.4 ...
This is working, but I dont know if it is a problem for my system becouse of incompatibility with the battery of Z710.
Any digitally signed driver for my Z710 or I can use the version 7.0.3.4 without problem?

Nov 15, 2014I tried plugging several devices into a USB 3.0 port on my z510 this morning to no avail. The USB 2.0 port is working(I have a mouse plugged into it and it works fine) but the USB 3 ports will not work at all. I tried looking at device manager; it says everything is working properly. Power management doesn't turn any of the ports off.
It was working fine 2 days ago. Is it possible to turn the ports off? Because nothing is being recognized.
I looked for drivers on Lenovo's site; no USB drivers for windows 8.1 at ALL. What do I do?

Apr 29, 2014My Ideapad S510p has accrued over 10 BSODs over the past 2 weeks. It is totally random, not due to putting it in sleep mode, and apparently is caused by a failure in the ntoskrnl.exe and usbehci.sys.
I have tried looking for malfunctioning devices, and disabled bluetooth as it was apparently not working.
I also installed several new drivers. This solved nothing, and I am at a loss of what to do entirely.

secondly i hearred the discussion about 2 or 4gbs of ram. if i insert 4gb ram, then i just get 3 a 3.5 gb? and will an t7200 allow me to have more ram?and last is more an software issue; i use fingerprint to logon to windows 7 (home premium). is there a way i can set windows to only use fingerprint log on? (so you cant select other logon options).
Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X201 - No OSD With Windows 7 Pro
Aug 1, 2011I'm having a bit of a strange problem with my Thinkpad X201.
I've been running Windows 7 Pro on it for almost a year without any problems at all, but the SSD I installed developed a fault and had to be replaced. I have the original Win 7 Pro DVD and have installed it from scratch on the new SSD but a few problems have come up.
W7 couldn't find any drivers for the network card or wireless card, and without a network connection it couldn't go online to find any - luckily I was able to download a network card driver via my desktop pc which I then installed on the X201, and when the Windows updates were downloaded and installed, the wireless also started working too.
However, the on-screen displays for the volume, brightness and Caps Lock functions don't work and neither does the Fn-F5 for wireless and Bluetooth.
I spent all of yesterday evening hunting various forums and downloading numerous drivers etc, but I still can't get the OSD to work.
I've tried Lenovo's System Update which downloaded some things and have also tried using the Intel video drivers etc but am totally lost now as to what to do next.
I know that the OSDs do work as they were all working perfectly on the original W7 install, I just don't know what the problem is now with this clean install.

Sep 25, 2014I am trying to install windows 8 from the 3 disks that came with the X1 Carbon. There is no DVD drive and we have no external disk drive, so I need to create a bootable USB for this. The laptop came with windows 7 on it.
It is easy to use DISKPART to ready the USB as a bootable device, but how to I take the data from the 3 DVDs and put it onto the USB so that it works? The first one only has drivers but the OS install is split onto two disks. I referred to a KB article but it was talking about autorun files that are not present on these DVDs.
The DVDs I have are labeled as
(1) Applications and Drivers Recovery Disk,
(2) OS Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro [Disk 1 of 2], and (2) OS Recovery Disk Windows 8 Pro [Disk 2 of 2].

Jul 14, 2014We bought 12 X240 pc's and installed a Windows 7 64bit OS on them. We are having problems on several laptop (5 so far) that they freeze several times a day. The mouse icon changes in the processing icon, you can still move your mouse but can't click anything or even press ctrl + alt + del. Have to long press the power key to get them to power off.
I already read that there were problems with the fingerprint reader software, uninstalled it but still having the problems (fingerprint reader is disabled in BIOS). Also upgraded the fingerprint reader software to the latest version on another pc, but same problem.
Ran solution center on one of the PC's, didn't find any problems. Ran system update and updated all to the latest version. Also tried to change the power settings to Performance mode in windows. But problem keeps coming back.
I tried installing the latest Intel graphics driver, but it fails to start stating that you need a version from the manufacturer. No error messages in the windows event logs.
X240 model is 20AL00C1MB.

problem:
Laptop is in docking station with external 22" Samsung DVI and working in Winword, IE or others. Suddenly screen from Samsung turns black (laptop TFT from people who use dual stays on). After 1-10 seconds the samsung screen comes back. We fiest thought this was some RDP issue with other users connecting to the device. (Not the case)

Nov 8, 2014I have S430, bios 2.58 I decided to upgrade my HDD to SSD and install clean Windows on it.
I've downloaded Windows 7 ISO from [URL] ....
Then I have loaded it into Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool
Prepared with that app bootable DVD and flash
First I tryied to install Windows from usb, installer runs and asked me for CDDVD drivers. I sat up USB3.0 to disabled, then in browser window I can see my flash, but the message about drivers remains..
Also I copyed USB3 driver from [URL] ... to another flash and tryed to give them instead of CD-DVD drivers, but they are shown as "not compatible"
Next i tryied with DVD, but I can't even load installer - DVD begin to roll, but then shows me "choose boot device" dialog. Secure boot is OFF, UEFI tryied both Legacy Only and UEFI only....

Dec 20, 2013Basically I am trying to install a new Samsung SSD into a W530, however, I can not get the Bios or Windows instalation to see it (when you select what drive you want to install windows on).
I can externally attach the SSD to my other laptop and see the drive. I can create partitions, format them, etc. But none of that worked my original issue.
I have also updated to the latest BIOS version, tried turning off UEFI, no luck.
What I am missing here to get this SSD to show up?

Nov 21, 2014Having some troubles with my X220 and windows 8.1 and fast startup.
It has been working flawlessly for a few months now with Windows 8 and an SSD but has recently decided it does not want to fast startup - every time I try and boot with the feature enabled the laptop immediately shuts off completely after the boot animation. On pressing the power button again the laptop boots 'normally' i.e. at 'normal' startup speed.
I've tried disabling the feature, using the 'powercfg -h off' and 'powercfg -h on' commands to recreate hiberfil.sys and enabling it again, which worked at first but now it has started having the problem again and this no longer works.

Lenovo X120e X Series ThinkPad :: Bluescreen On Windows Startup?
May 15, 2014Recently, my x120e began blue-screening (with error code c000021a) while Windows was starting up. However, if the computer was off for a period of time, usually about 5-10 minutes minimum, it would start up with no problems. I thought it might be overheating except for two things:
1) Once windows started up, I had no issues. No matter how much processing power I was using, it didn't bluescreen or even try to turn itself off
2) When I rebooted in safe mode and looked at what modules it was loading, it always failed after the same one (CLASSPNP.SYS)
I had heard that there were occasionally some significant driver issues with my hardware, so I did a clean re-install of Windows (Win 7 Pro, 64-bit), hoping that this would rule that out.
The issue persisted, and in fact would interfere with a Windows install disk booting into the installer. After I got the installation to complete, the previous issue continued to be present.
I did some Google searching and found that the BSOD error code c000021a is generally caused by a driver or security issue, and the usual solutions suggested are to try to use the "Last Known Good Configuration Option" for windows startup, and to update drivers. However, neither of these things have worked, as it still does this on a fresh Windows install.
I also tried running without the battery (AC power only) and without the AC power (battery only), and neither has fixed the issue.
(Side note: This was originally happening with the original 320GB hard disk that came in the machine. I was going to upgrade to an SSD anyway, and this problem has persisted with the new drive).

Dec 18, 2012After receiving my w530, I wiped the drive and installed a nice fresh copy of Windows 8 Enterprise (volume licence work copy).
I have installed all the latest drivers, etc. and taken note of the various documents about Windows 8 upgrade/install, but cannot make use of the integrated camera?!
The driver is listed under the device manager:
Imagine Devices -> Integrated Camera (Ricoh 1.0.0.19) - BTW I tried the beta one to see if that worked, and it made no difference to I rolled back to the proper release again.
The docs I have read said NOT to install the Communications Utility, and at this point in time there is not a Windows 8 listed compatible version of that. I did give it a try when the camera did not work, but although there were no errors, etc. it didn't work either ...
Skype/messenger/windows 8 camera seem to know it's there, but cannot make use of it (I get the placeholder image).
Under Control Panel->Hardware and Sound, there is no appropriate entry for me to toggle/configure.
I see the green light come on, but no picture. Running latest bios G5ET65WW (2.07).

Wonderful machine, but I hate Windows 8. I can say a lot about that, but let's just state tha fact that I'm not compatible with Windows 8.
Can I install Windows 7 intead? If so, how? Since there's no DVD drive in the system.
And if I install Windows 7, will I lose touch funtionality? WIll I lose other things? (apart from things in Windows 8 of course)

Oct 30, 2014I got my W540 recently with windows 8.1 pro on it. but as all engineers worst nightmare windows 8 has hard time with engineering softwares (for my case TIA Portal for PLC programming software which only support windows 7). so i need to have a windows 7. i prefer to keep my windows 8 and have dual boot system with windows 7 added. But i can't install windows 7. initially due to disk type (GPT), then i changed it to MBR without losing my files (which only was possible if i had deleted the recovery partition- now my recovery is on my flash drive). But there are already 4 partitions on the system (1 for C: drive and 3 for recovery and system files which came originally with the product) , how can i install a windows 7? i can't add another partition because that makes my disk a Dynamic disk. i really need windows 7 on my system ASAP.
