I just got a brand new Edge 335 with Windows 8 Pro 64 bit installed. It has 8 GB RAM, and AMD E2-2000 APU. I've had a couple of issues with this. One was that I couldn't turn on Bluetooth in Windows 8 (fixed by installing an older version of Thinkpad Hotkey features software). The other issue which is still unresolved is that of virtualization.
Â
AMD virtualization is enabled in the BIOS. However, Windows 8 as well as the AMD virtualization tool both state it is turned off. I have, after searching these forums and the web, disabled it, cold booted the machine (removing battery), re-enabled it, cold booted again (also removed the battery). However, Windows just doesn't want to accept that it's enabled.
Â
AMD virtualization and DEP were both enabled when I got the laptop from Lenovo. Is there anything else I need to turn on/ off?

After I reinstalled windows 7 I can't recover factory settings and drivers (going threw F11 as mention in many support sites). Also I can't download Wifi (wirelees lan driver). It shows that it can't be done on this computer becouse it doens't support this operating system or that it doesn't have wife device at all. I downloaded Lan driver from support and it works, but its diffrent story with wifi. Driver genius can't find it either. Also tried using rescue and restore, but it doesn't find any back up's. Even do there still a partition LENOVO_RECOVERY. So I need to know that I am doing wrong, did installed wrong OS(even do I tried two diffrent setups) or I just do something wrong then I try to restore fatory settings or I just f.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15R (5520, Mid 2012) and I would like to get faster storage. Can this laptop support a mSATA drive? I have read different answers and I am confused if mSATA SSDs are supported or not. mSATA is not mentioned at all in most of the Inspiron 15R 5520 manuals. However, the "Inspiron 15R 5520 Specifications (Accessibility Compliant)" at ftp.dell.com/.../inspiron-15r-5520_Reference%20Guide2_en-us.pdf says this:
mSATA (optional)one mSATA port that supports up to 32 GB (Inspiron 14R-5420/7420)one mSATA port that supports up to 32 GB (Inspiron 15R-5520/7520) 32 GB seems very small. Is there a reason why I couldn't use one of the larger mSATA devices on the market, such as the 128GB or 256GB mSATA devices?

I have a couple issues with moving Win7 Pro from my HD to my new mSATA. I have an E520, 1143 FU3 (?), 500gb hd, Win7 Pro. I added a 120gb mSATA SSD.
Â
I first thought I would clone the drive to the new one, but had trouble getting the used space small enough. Then I thought I would do a factory install, but can't seem to get that to work either.
Â
First of all, I made recovery disks back when I first got the computer. But I can't find a way to use the data on the disks. They are not bootable. So If I remove my old hard drive so I can install to the new one, how do I boot? I made a boot disk from Lenovo Recovery, but it doesn't boot to a command prompt, just into the program, which doesn't seem to be able to use my recovery disks, it wants something else. How do I restore my computer back to factory defaults? The recovery system won't let me make new disks, its says this can only be done once.
Â
Also, I have been removing things from the hard drive so it will fit to clone to the new 120gb drive. I seemed to be unable to get the drive to be less than 130gb, even though I had removed almost everything except Windows. I was checking the size by looking at the drive properties in Windows. Now I noticed that if I check the properties of each item, directories and files, on the C:, the total size is only about 60gb. Does that mean I can clone the drive, and the drive properties is reporting the used space incorrectly, or am I missing something? Even with the "Q:" (Lenovo_Recovery) added on, I should still be well under my 111gb on the new drive.

I updated my Thinkpad with windows 8.1. But the wifi driver doesn't work correctly. After the installation the device was diasabled with code 10. I searched for a new driver and found one from Realtek for win 8. After this installation and the reboot, the wifi works fine. Restarting the notebook again, the device was disabled again. I tried a lot of different drivers - it's always the same: After the first installation and reboot it works, after the second boot, the device is disabled again.

I have a newish (4/2014) Thinkpad E440 with a 500 GB HD. All of a sudden, the hard drive has filled up. I cannot account for all of the space. Here's what the system says:
Â
35.2 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytesÂ
So you can see this is a wee bit over 135 GB. Where in the world is the rest of the space? Here's what I've looked at / done so far:
Â
"System Protection" is turned on and is currently using 10.48 GB. I have the max set at 3% (13.59 GB). There are currently 3 saved restore points. --> EDIT now it says it's using 5.97 GB and there are only two restore points now.I've run "Disk Cleanup" and it says I could regain 33.6 MB. Whoo-whooooo!The disk was 1% fragmented so I ran defrag.I ran the error checking tool on the drive and it said there were no errors on the drive. Now, after finishing the defrag, I've lost more space "as we speak"20.4 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytesÂ
FYI: When I go to Lenovo Solution Center and click on Support and then go to Configuration History, the calender there shows the yellow triangle with the exclamation point in it for "System Events" on every single day that I use the laptop. When I click on one of those days, it shows multiple "Application Errors". This has been going on since the day I got it. I don't know if there is a log somewhere that is spiraling out of control.
Â
I forgot to say I use Kaspersky Pure 3.0 for virus software and I have it performing a Full Scan, a Vulnerability scan and a Critical Areas scan every day. I also scanned the drive with Malware Bytes and it did not find any malware. Also I am running Win 8.1 - it came that way from Lenovo.

So, I desperately need the SSD speed.Â
I know i can use the intesl caching stuff, but i dont want to!!
Intel® Smart Response Technology: This technology utilizes the speed advantage of SSD in caching where the frequently used information is stored on the SSD instead of the Hard drive.
Intel® Rapid Start Technology: This technology enables the system to boot back with-in seconds after getting into hibernation.
What i am looking to do is, put a 128GB mSATA SSD drive in the slot, fire windows into in and use this as my OS & APPS drive, (Drive C:), and then use the existing drive, the 1TB mechanical drive as the storage drive (Drive D:).Â
The dell site, say i can not use an MSATA SSD to boot with...i see no reason why!?
Also, i cant find the spec of the mSATA...dont know whether its SATA 3 or SATA 2.

I agree that most phone support is not very good, but I've been helped before by other laptop makers when I had quick, relatively simple questions.
How can Acer not offer phone support and be competitive. People expect phone support for computers.
That aside, what do you think of the Acer Aspire AS5535-5452 for $450 ??

Just upgraded the 24GB msata to a 120 GB msata and I'm having trouble cloning the hard drive over to the ssd with Clonezilla. The plan is to move the OS to the msata ssd and wiping the original hard dirve and using it for back-up and storage. The BIOS is current set to AHCI with Lagency OS support active but trying UEFI first. I've done this before with win 7 systems; but this is my first foray into win 8.1 w/UEFI. The system does recognize and access the 120 GB Crucial M500 msata disk; it just won't mirror the 8, win-8 partitions. I reinstalled the HD and rebooted the system; to ensure I didn't mess something up and everything seems to be working; though on the slow hard drive.
I did boot from the USB drive with Clonzillia on it and used the drive to drive cloning option...

I am using a B590 booting from a mSATA SSD (Mushkin). I am booting in to Ubuntu 12.04. Everything worked fine for half a year. Last week booting from the SSD did not work any more. Now the mSATA SSD is not visible in my BIOS, under Windows 7 oder several Linux distros. I cannot access the mSATA SSD at all. I am especially surprised that my configuration quit working from one day to the other without any action from my side. The usual set of questions:
Â
Is there something trivial that I do wrong? Is there a way to check the sanity of the drive and/or my notebook? Is there any way to revert to the previous extremely satisfying state? My BIOS-version is 1.18 (06/27/2013).

I have installed my mSATA card as instructed and that part went fine. Like a couple of other folks the drive is not being recognized by Windows 7. I'm  planning to add a mSATA SSD on a brand new T430s and use the 500gb HD for data. I ordered the R&R DVD's so that I don't even have to turn on the machine with the factory drive. I will remove it and install the mSATA to install OS etc.
Then reinstall the factory drive for reformat and add data.Â
I'd rather do this than go through the whole first time setup with the factory drive just to create R&R disc. Â It seems like a giant waste of time otherwise.Â
I'm assuming the factory R&R discs will have the OS, drivers and Thinkpad utilities, which is all in need.

Replacing the stock mSATA SSD used for caching on the T430 with a large capacity SSD and placing an OS on it?
Â
I've got a T430 with dual boot Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu. Â I rarely use the Window partition, and I want leave it on the HD and migrate the Ubuntu partition over to a new mSATA SSD installed in slot currently used for caching for Windows. Â I'm not concerned about Windows slowing down without the cache, but I do need a bootable windows partition.
Â
I was about to go ahead and purchase a suitable mSATA SSD for this process when I read the hardware maintenance manual (pg 26) and mSATA update guide, which made me think that using the mSATA for anything but caching on the T430 might be problematic.

I have the Lenovo Y400 laptop with Intel Core I-7 processor and Nvidia Geforce 650M Graphics chip. Â The laptop came with windows 8 and is now running windows 8.1 At the time of purchase I opted to go for a model with a standard HDD and no MSATA SSD for caching.
I have recently purchased a 128 GB "My Digital SSD - Bulletproof 4" MSATA SSD and installed it.
I installed the Intel Rapid Storage Technology software and it shows the drive, but does not give me any options for acceleration or caching.
Based on my research so far, it seems I need to enable RAID mode in the BIOS (SATA setting is currently at AHCI).
The only other option shown is to change it to "compatibility mode" which it identifies as IDE.
Is there a way to switch the BIOS to RAID mode so I can use my MSATA SSD for caching without having to reinstall windows?

I cannot select my new SSD (M4 mSATA) in the boot order in the BIOS.
Â
The mSATA drive DOES show up on the BIOS info page (first BIOS screen) but does NOT appear on the boot order page. The drive is visible and formatted in Windows 8 64bit and I can copy files to it,
Â
Computer: Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 with a 1TB HDD (i7 CPU, 660M COU, 8GB RAM, etc.)OS: Windows 8 64bitSSD: Crucial M4 mSATA 256GBÂ Model # M4-CT256M4SSD3Windows shows the drive as operating correctly. After some fiddling I did use disk management to populate the volume (238GB available) and assigned a drive letter. I successfully copied a txt file and can open the file.
I have created a recovery DVD but it doesn't recognize the drive when attempting to use--although I can see/use in Windows.
I have also removed the HDD and rebooted a number of times. So the drive is working but I cannot set it as a bootable drive. The things I have tried:
>>>Have you tried the ssd as the only drive>>> Yes.
Â
>>> are both drives on the same sata contoller have you tried the ssd in the hdd port?>>> he SSD is mSATA and has a different port than the HDD (which plugs into the SATA port). I have tried w/o the HDD plugged in,
>>>could it be that the hdd has ahci and the ssd doesnt or vice versa>>> I have not tried disabling AHCI yet as a quick browsing showed this bricking some systems.
>>> See the Bootmenu of the BIOS setup utility. Make sure that the Boot Device Priority in the BIOS setup utility is set so that the computer starts from the device you want. >>> Doesn't list it as an option on the priority screen, BUT it is listed on the BIOS information page as recognized (HD0 I believe).
>>> Press F12 when the Lenovo logo appears on the screen while the computer is starting up to select the device you want the computer starts from.>>> Does not list the SSD drive as a boot option. Tried w/ and w/o the HDD installed.

best way to install a *clean* version of Windows 8 to their Thinkpad that came with Windows 8?
Â
I ordered a T430s with low specs and Windows 8 and I dropped in an 8GB DIMM and mSATA drive. Â However, the Lenovo implementation of Windows 8 is maddeningly difficult to create backup media (you can't) and the Lenovo "restore" from the HDD partition won't allow you to restore to another drive. Â Plus, that kinda defeats my original purpose of a clean install without any bloatware onto a fast, user-installed mSATA or SSD.
Â
I have Windows upgrade media I purchased for my desktop, but that install program says the installation won't work with the Lenovo Product Key specific to my Thinkpad T430s (I'm guessing it's an OEM product key while the install media is an upgrade looking for a previously installed Windows 7?)

My Lenovo Solution Center (LSC) told me that my mSATA had a targetd read test fail. Â I ran the test myself and it had the same issue. Â Read some threads and tried the LSC test but only tested the SSD, and it passed all tests when ran this way.
Â
Went to the IBM Electronic Service Call website and entered the details and they sent me an empty box to ship my laptop back for repair. Â This seems overkill as I'm sure I could just pop in a new mSATA if that really was the problem, I don't want to give up my PC.
Â
My T430 seems to run fine.  Wondering  if this is a software problem with LSC? Here is my error code:
Â
LENOVO HARDWARE SCAN ERROR: RESULT CODE: WHD01V002-UI8VYJ DATE RUN: 1/26/2013 - 14:52 DEVICE: SANDISK-SANDISKSSDU10016GB-123659310730
(I don't get this error when I test the SSD by itself, only if SSD is tested right after the primary HD)
Â
Is it worth sending back to Lenovo? Or does LSC have a glitch?
