Lenovo 11e E/Edge :: E325 Won't Hibernate - System Drive Offline
Sep 28, 2013
Cannot hibernate until I switch SYSTEM_DRV online in DISKPART. Volume goes offline after every reboot, but stays online if resuming from hibernation or sleep. What could be wrong?

I've problem with my notebook. After clean installation of win7 64bit, installation of all drivers with lenovo update and windows update is the hibernation option behaving in strange way.
The screen turns black but the computer is still working and when I start moving with mouse it shows me the login screen. So basically it just logs me off.
I tried to instal newest drivers of Chipset, Graphical card, Bios.... the option in cmd: powercfg -h is turned on... nothing worked. I also updated powr manager soft and driver.

After some virus problems I set up my system from the scratch, formatting the hard drive and reinstalling Windows. I also downloaded the Lenovo System Updater, installed all updates and downloaded the ThinkVantage Solution Center. Now, the PC works again BUT the WiFi adapter does not work. It seems to be non-existent, if I press F9 it says I am suppossed to press the hardware switch. I have a ThinkPad Edge 15, it does not have such a switch at all.
In the hardware manager i find one network device without driver, so I suppose this is it. However, no driver seems to work. I downloaded the WiFi dirver(s) from the Lenovo website and installed them, nothing happens. What can I do?
Here are my specifications:
-Thinkpad Edge 15
-Windows 7 Home Premium (OEM)
- the driver I installed which did not work: Intel Wireless LAN (bg, abg, abgn) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad
I am pretty certain that the hardware works, before I set uo the system WiFi was not at all a problem.

Today I received my brand-new E540 from Amazon. Upon inserting the battery and starting the laptop for the very first time, I was greeted by the following error message:
The battery installed is not supported by this system and will not charge.
Please replace the battery with the correct Lenovo battery for this system.
Press the ESC key to continue.
The message has only appeared once and hasn't been shown on subsequent reboots.
I proceeded to install Windows 7 which worked fine. Under Windows the battery symbol in the taskbar would say "66%. Plugged in. Not charging". I then shutdown the system and re-inserted the battery. Since then the battery appears to be charging normally and when I inspect the battery symbol in Windows it says something like "89% charged. Plugged in. Charging."
Seeing how this is a brand-new laptop, do you think the battery is broken and I should return the laptop, or should I keep it since it seems to be working normally now.

Using Defender Offline "Beta" as instructed on MS website for Windows8.1. Created the media on a USB drive, then on a CD. Manually selected boot device on the boot sequence page. Followed all the instructions to the letter, but the Defender Offline media won't boot on this new W540, either on USB flash drive, or on the CD drive.

I have a newish (4/2014) Thinkpad E440 with a 500 GB HD. All of a sudden, the hard drive has filled up. I cannot account for all of the space. Here's what the system says:
35.2 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytes
So you can see this is a wee bit over 135 GB. Where in the world is the rest of the space? Here's what I've looked at / done so far:
"System Protection" is turned on and is currently using 10.48 GB. I have the max set at 3% (13.59 GB). There are currently 3 saved restore points. --> EDIT now it says it's using 5.97 GB and there are only two restore points now.I've run "Disk Cleanup" and it says I could regain 33.6 MB. Whoo-whooooo!The disk was 1% fragmented so I ran defrag.I ran the error checking tool on the drive and it said there were no errors on the drive. Now, after finishing the defrag, I've lost more space "as we speak"20.4 GB available of 452 GBApps: 31.4 MBPictures: 76.1 GBVideos: 137 MBMusic: 20.9 GBDocuments: 8.14 GBDownloads: 0 bytesRecycle bin: 0 bytes
FYI: When I go to Lenovo Solution Center and click on Support and then go to Configuration History, the calender there shows the yellow triangle with the exclamation point in it for "System Events" on every single day that I use the laptop. When I click on one of those days, it shows multiple "Application Errors". This has been going on since the day I got it. I don't know if there is a log somewhere that is spiraling out of control.
I forgot to say I use Kaspersky Pure 3.0 for virus software and I have it performing a Full Scan, a Vulnerability scan and a Critical Areas scan every day. I also scanned the drive with Malware Bytes and it did not find any malware. Also I am running Win 8.1 - it came that way from Lenovo.

So as soon as I got my brand new Y50-70, and before doing anything on this laptop (not even installing new software), I went tried OneKey Recovery only to discover that it is broken.
I then tried my luck with Windows Recovery (the one provided with every Windows 8.1 copy, not unique to Lenovo):
I first went through system image creation on a recovery drive (1TB WD Elements USB HDD):
1. Find it on Control Panel:
2: Select it (Recovery option):
3. Create a recovery drive:
4. Selected the F: drive (1TB, it's not a *flash* drive just an ordinary USB hdd, does it matter?):
5. Got a nice warning (indeed, this process reformatted the drive, to 32GB only, why 32GB and not the full 1TB?)
Now... let's see if I can restore from this newly created system image:
1. Rebooted from the newly created Recovery Drive (it actually boots!):
2. Selected "Use a device", then received this menu:
3. I selected EFI USB Device. It then went to an intermediate Lenovo boot splash:
4. And shortly after that (without me doing anything) a new prompt, to choose a language:
5. I selected English and then, got prompted for keyboard layout:
6. The system then system to restart again from the Recovery Drive, only to prompt me again with the "Choose an Option" screen (as in step #1). So, I selected "Troubleshoot" this time:
7. I then selected "Advanced options", and received this screen:
8. I then selected System Image Recoery and received this screen:
9. I selected the only option available (Windows 8.1), then got this "Cannot find system image":
10. Why??? I clicked cancel and I was prompted to select an image:
11. So I clicked Next, but got nothing to select:
12. Clicking the Advanced button only provides irrelevant options:

Under "Computer>Properties" it is showing only 4 gb Install RAM. Why is it not reading or the system not using the additional 4 gb of RAM on the second card?

I know, that F10 it's a Windows-only laptop and Linux not officially supported on it by Lenovo,
Have purchased just yesterday a new IdeaPad F10, Spanish edition
Have successfully installed Ubuntu 14.04.1 x64 on it. Have preserverd the possibility to boot Windows and Recovery.
The installation was smooth, every things was working fine, but:
After the closing the cap, the laptop was going to hibernate, and then no way to resume or get it on.
Have tried to press the power button for a 8-10 second then disconnect the AC cable.
When doing this the power indicator becomes white for around of 30-40 seconds then off, during this nothing is happens, the screeen is black, no fans no HDD activity noise. Only if pressing the Windows logo on the screen it´s become giving a some sound, not a beep but it hears like... a rattle or something like..
It is dead now? I belive that disconnecting the battery can solve this but it´s mean loosing the warranty, because it´s necessary to remove the back screws. Or it´s possible to reanimate it by the other way?

I’ve had the T430s for about a year. Whenever the laptop goes into sleep/hibernate mode, I hear a high pitched hum come from the bottom back section of the laptop. It also becomes noticeably louder when I unplug the AC adapter. I've put my ear to the laptop to try to identify where exactly the noise is coming from. I attached a picture with the general vicinity circled.
I don’t think I explained the issue to the repair centre properly. They ended up replacing the fan the first time I sent it in for repair. The second time I sent it, they replaced the system board. However, it continues to emit that high pitched hum.
Am I being too sensitive to the noise or is this something that can be fixed? I’m just past my warranty and I’m afraid if there is a problem that isn’t identified, I’ll be stuck with it for the next few years.

Ever since i've wiped the machine, i've been having these two problems. When I close the lid, it used to go to sleep straight away, but now I can see the sleep light (and the power button) flash and flash, then it goes to sleep.
When waking up it goes through the lenovo startup screen and resuming windows, then it asks for a password, before I used to open the lid and it would ask me for the password straight away. I know it was going to sleep because I could hear the beep straight away when I closed and opened it, but now it just takes too long.
Also, everytime I boot up into windows or resume into windows from a sleep state, I can hear the device noise, like something is being plugged in/out. But there is nothing being plugged in or out at the time. I can't get to device manager quick enough to see what it is that is causing it. But all drivers seem okay.
Also noticed, when the lid is closed, randomly the laptop turns off (hear the beep) an then turns back off again.

the way the F keys have been switched on my Edge 14", today I came across some time to fiddle around with it. I googled what I needed to do...and came across this question on yahoo, which is exact what I need. I bought Lenovo Thinkpad Edge several months ago, and I really like it so far. But I use MS Excel a lot and I always use shortcut keys which involve F1~F12. On my thinkpad, I always have to hit "Fn" and "F1~F12" keys simultaneously, and it is a little annoying since I've been used to using F1~F12 keys without hitting "Fn". So I went to BIOS keyboard setting, and enabled the Function key lock. It became a little bit better, because now I don't have to hit "Fn" and F1~F12 simultaneously, but I could press "Fn" AND THEN, F1~F12. But what I really want is the "Fn" key always on without pressing it. On the BIOS screen, it says hitting "fn" key twice keeps "Fn" key always on, but whenever I hit it twice and hit F1~F12, it doesn't function like F1~F12 key, but it just controlls the sound volume or display light. Is there any way to keep "Fn" key always on without pressing it everytime I want to use F1~F12 keys?"
In short, in the BIOS page, once "enabled", you are able to double tap the Fn key and have it stay on without you pressing it each time; however, it doesn't appear to work that way and turns off everytime you use a F key.

The thing they call "edge to edge glass" which is really just plastic above an ordinary screen. The thing is, that the screen under that edge to edge plastic is a nice anti-glare screen, no kidding! You can see this if you take your laptop in sunlight and tilt it the right way.
So what's happening is you're getting the worst part of an anti-glare screen (reduced contrast ratio) plus the worst part of a glossy screen (unless you have a really pretty face).
I took the plastic thing off, cut along the black/clear border, pulled out the middle, and stuck the centerless border back on the laptop.
Result? THIS SCREEN IS FANTASTIC. Yeah ok, of course I would say that. But if you knew me, you'd know that was way out of the ordinary and really meant that THIS SCREEN IS FANTASTIC.
One thing you may not have considered is that the screen in its default position has yet another flaw, both sides of that glossy plastic thing are glossy, so some of the light coming from the screen is reflected back to the screen, and as you know light reflected onto the screen has a yellowish tint. That is my guess as to why the whites on this screen are really really white now, and the screen is much brighter. This also explains why other 300nit screens used to look so much brighter than this.
I will have more pics when I am able to charge the battery to my good camera. If anyone has any questions about removing that plastic thing I'll be happy to answer your questions, it's actually pretty easy. For those interested, here is how I did it:
1. I removed the "star" head screws, this was accomplished not with a special star head screw driver, but an ordinary flat head precision screw driver.
2. Put some paper over a hacksaw blade to avoid scratching, wedged it under the plastic near the top where the camera is, and snapped out the first of the several lock-in points on along the top edge. I proceeded to detatch the rest of the top of the screen in this way.
3. Both the left and right sides were held on mostly by adhesive, the very edge point locks in slightly, but the efforts removing these sides are focused mainly on separating the adhesive bond.
4. I pulled upward on the plastic and it came right off, there seems to be no adhesive or lock-in points on the bottom side.
5. Using the center of the screen as a test area, I tested several cutting utilities and decided on the utility knife. To my surprise, the plastic was about 1mm thick.
6. I clamped the screen down to the table, with a straight edge positioned 1mm inward of the black line, to give headroom for errors.
7. I cut along these lines, and repeated step 6 for each side, and pushed out the center to reveal the border piece that now resembled a common laptop screen enclosure border.
8. I used a medium grit sand paper to bring the cut lines to meet the black lines, and finished it off with a fine grit sand paper.
9. I applied some electrical tape to the area between the edge of the screen itself, and the edge of the laptop on the right and left sides because there was light leakage, and then popped the border back on and screwed it down.
Found the charger! Here's the high res shots. They do *some* justice to the screen quality.

Heres a video I made to demonstrate the ammount of flex on the edge to edge lid. It does have flex and bend, but its not as bad as the one j3n82 reported. I recorded with an iPhone so the video quality is crap. Also forgot I had left it in portrait mode when I recorded it (I didn't have a tripod so I used a cup lol). But I hope it gives some of you a basic idea of the quality. I thought openning the blinds to allow the vertical lines will show the bend/flex a lot more. I was applying quite a bit of pressure, although it doesn't seem like I was in the video. I felt as if any harder I might have damage something, or maybe pop the edge to edge screen out. I used an 8lb dumbell, I think thats the limit.
If you noticed the cloth I used to cover the keyboard when I closed the screen, I did this this to avoid getting the smudges on the screen when I pushed the lid down onto the keyboard.
At the end of the video I tried showing the Edge to Edge display, notice how theres another layer of screen over the bezel. Thats the difference between the edge to edge.

I just bought an Edge 130 and wanted to set it up today. But I just can't enter the BIOS! I keep pressing F1 during the Lenovo splash screen. I've pressed it repeatedly, held it down, I even tried it with the Fn button pressed. Nothing worked.
I've have been working with and professionally supporting Lenovo (and before IBM) notebooks for over 10 years and not once did I have such a problem. This is only the second E-series notebook I have ever had. I bought myself an E525 last summer and had no such problems and at work we have T-, X- and W-series.

ThinkPad Edge, Win 7 Sp1. For the last month I have had a problem with the control key always down. Programs react as if the control key were pressed. MS Word 7 gives an error message that the control key is down and asks if I want to go to Safe Mode. I have had the keyboard replaced with no change. The computer has been thoroughly checked, all drivers, patches, software upgrades have been made by my Tech, and the Bios has been flashed.
Last week, I found a post on Google for Win XP where the poster had the same problems. The fix was to ensure that the Sticky Keys were turned off in Ease of Access on the Control Panel. I went to Ease of Access and turned off all of the selections, and the fix seemed to work. However, yesterday the problem reoccurred. I don't know if it is a problem with the motherboard, hardware, or with Windows. It appears that this problem affects more than one version of Windows.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E530. Occasionally I will have the following icon pop up on my screen and refuse to go away: A reverse google image search told me this is the logo for the "thinklight", which as far as I know is not actually equipped on this model. As a side note, I have seen this happen on a friend's E530 as well.
