I have a VAIO SZ3 an I decided yo make a win vista clean install, I installed all drivers and everything works correctly except the FN+brightness or FN+ any combination. But misteriously FN+volume and mute works, I don't know why.
I also realized that when I switch the button of speed and stamina the window that ask you if restart does not apear.
I own a Macbook, and on that if F2 and F3 directly it changes the brightness on the laptop and also volume too

View 4 Replies View RelatedI tried doing a clean install for my friend's Vaio VGN-FW463J/T. I left the hidden Sony recovery partition intact just in case something went wrong. I used a retail Vista x64 sp1 disk and installed it just fine. Then I started installing the drivers, but some of them wouldn't install. The Sony Shared Library starts to install, but then just disappears and doesn't say that it finished installing. The Sony notebook utilities doesn't install because I can't get Shared Library to install. A prompt says that it only works on vista, a message which causes me great confusion. But I can get the Sony Firmware Extension Parser Device Driver to install correctly. The problem is that the fn keys don't work.
And the Intel SATA Driver Registry Patch doesn't install. I think it's because I don't have the original drivers installed, or is this it? I'm missing something huge, aren't I?
I did a clean install of Windows 7 and I was surprised that almost everything is working out of the gate. There are only a few bugs that I've noticed.
1.) The Fn functions in the F-keys don't work. Which driver do I need for that?
2.) Same thing goes for the Mode - - - - - Settings keys above that. Which driver fixes that?
3.) In the device manager I have and unknown "Base System Device" with the Location of "PCI bus 7, device 3, function 2". What is this/How do I fix it?
4.) The touchpad doesn't scroll. I tried installing the driver from the Sony eSupport page, but it failed. (I reinstalled and rebooted and it's working)
And not a bug, but just a straight up question...
5.) Should I install Sony Shared Library? Do I need it for anything? I really don't plan on installing any of the programs that came pre-installed with Vista, unless it's necessary.
I have just got a new dell XPS 12, but no touch is enabled in it. I would like to know, is there any way to enable it, like hardware switch/ or from BIOS etc. Or I landed up with a defective device? What is the wayout to make touch work on XPS 12.

Anyway, the game says that i don't have enough memory to run it on the laptop (definitely not true unless the laptop is lying about its memory)) but I did notice when it was laoding it said it needed DirectX and I should install a service pack (didn't get this with the laptop). Just been looking and it says Windows 7, which I have, has DirectX incorporated into it, is this true? Should I be downnloading DirectX to make my game work?

I recently formatted my Acer Aspire 5935G and downloaded and installed all drivers from the Acer website. I currently am experiencing the following probs:
1. The Acer PowerSmart Button is not working (cannot find drivers / application to make it work)
2. Cannot switch from the onboard video card (Intel) and the "discrete" one which is an ATI Radeon Mobility 4570 HD
- Both video cards are installed
Current OS - Vista Ultimate x86 SP1

I have the following problem - after upgrading to Windows 7 I have only volume controls working, but not Fn+Fx key combinations.
Details are:
1) Fn key physically works - it worked on Vista
2) In order to have volume controls working I had to install Visual Studio 2010 Redistributable package
3) My BIOS version is 2.24, tried downgrading to 2.23 as well
4) System Interface Driver is installed alongwith Hotkey Support
5) Power Manager is installed
6) Tried older Vista drivers
I cannot type but I can use the keyboard trackpoint and trackpoint keys. I have tried changing the keyboard, but the same problem persisted. The drivers were good and I can attach keyboard via USB for full functionality. Could it be a problem with the palm rest where the keyboard attaches to or something else?

Particullary unhandy as I use some of these numbers for my password. Problem started 7/15/14. Worked as expected in the AM but now do not register this PM. The On Screen entry method works but not the keyboard! All other keyboard keys seem to work as expected. No error messages and no recent changes made to this Chromebook 14.

I just discovered a weird issue: both the alt keys and the space bar do not work when holding the up and left arrow keys simultaneously. I discovered this while playing a racing game. While holding up and left arrows, pressing either of the alt keys or the space bar produces no effect, and the laptop makes a "blip" noise.
All other keys seem to work while holding up + left arrows, and holding up + right arrow doesn't change a thing.I looked at the Ease of Acces settings (I've got Win7 Pro 64) and turned off all Filter Keys, Sticky Keys, etc.
These are terrific little computers, with the brilliant LED screen, small size and light weight, DVD/CD recorder/player, 54mm slot for the Mogomouse,
slots for SD and Memory Stick, and a true five hour battery life. It is almost powerful enough to do mild graphics such as Google Sketchup, Irfanview, etc.
We have installed XP and removed everything unnecessary - hopefully without losing something important. Memory is max'd at 1.5GB. The processor is a U1500 single-core, at 1.33GHz
It is known that due to marketing strategies Sony decided to limit the maximum memory supported by Z690 (aka Z3) down to 6GB, despite the fact that there are reports about Z1, Z2 and Z4 installed 8GB successfully without a problem.
The working way is the stupid (and possibly risky) way:
1. Important: Clear all passwords in BIOS! (including main, user and HDD passwords) otherwise you may have to flash back to your current version to access BIOS settings.....
I just purchased Sony Laptop VGN-SZ750N, now i want to make recovery dvd set in case i need to upgrade HD, but i do not know how to do it, or i do not know if is possible. i only find in the control panel how to do back up, but recovery dvd like other sony laptop.

It's very fine, but obviously there has been alot of discussion about it. Every Z (or 95%) of them I have viewed (about 10) have this issue and I can truly see it. I saw it before I read these forums and was like "what is this?" Well, how can I make this phenomenon not bother me, b/c it seems like it's not constantly being brought up in these forums anymore.
I feel it detracts from my enjoyment such that I want to sell the Z which I just got. Is there a way to unlearn what I've already seen? I guess do you really stop noticing it after time?
how to make optical drive to be revealed on eject key press if it was turned off according to a powersaving scheme? This issue relates only to Sony Z after Vista clean installation (by this manual: Sony Z series 32bit Vista Clean Install Guide (full functions & no windows activation)). When I had "factory installed" Vista, it worked this way. But after I have reinstalled OS, DVD drive doesn't want to wake up without restart.
