I was using the laptop today and my keyboard stopped working. I can't get the keys to work. I am using windows 7 home. I tried restoring my os to a good working point, then ran a virus check in case it may have been a virus.

If you use control panel to switch buttons then the only thing that happens is the cursor moves no click at all. Also after a period of time letting the computer warm up suddenly the cursor is working but even the left click will not function it will highlight the icon but not allow you to click it. I am wondering is the only solution to replace the motherboard since it appears to be a heat aggravated problem. And before I forget, yes I have replaced the drivers a couple of times clean install as well

My keyboard has started being erratic and not responding when some keys are pressed. I use the notebook mostly as a docking station, with a larger monitor and separate keyboard, so it's not an issue of the keys being misused or over-used. It's not related (as far as I can determine) to caps lock or any interference with USBs. It happens when I'm booting up as well as when I'm typing in a document and with nothing attached to the computer other than the power cable.

Particullary unhandy as I use some of these numbers for my password. Problem started 7/15/14. Worked as expected in the AM but now do not register this PM. The On Screen entry method works but not the keyboard! All other keyboard keys seem to work as expected. No error messages and no recent changes made to this Chromebook 14.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've spent 3 days and countless hours trying to find the solution to a black screen after attempting to update my daughter's Acer Aspire 5742Z from the bios it had to the latest bios available on the site (1.30). I ran the windows version from windows and I clicked thru the various dialogue windows appearing to be on its merry way. At one point, the screen went black and after about a half hour it stayed that way so I unplugged it b/c it wasn't responding to the power button nor the ctrl-alt-delete. I've tried using a usb stick formatted to both fat and fat32 containing the dos version of the bios files and the full contents from a windows 98 startup floppy disk i dusted off from retirement. I also tried a cdrw and cdr only containing the bios files. In all attempts, the hdd led and either the optical drive or usb stick led blinked a little before dying out and nothing more.

I mean no diagonally moving or anything. Only up, down, left, right. Laptop doesn't recognize multy pressed arrow keys. At first I thought it was an windows issue cause all drivers in Acer support page are for win 8. Installed win 8 and still same problem.
Ive had this Acer laptop E1-510p with window 8.1 and all of the sudden some of the keys accross the keyboard stop working. These keys are random and even when i plug in a generic keyboard it does the same thing ....

When I put my switch 10 to sleep, and then re-open it, the keyboard is not working anymore, like it has problem recharging drivers. Same issue happens sometime when I use it in tablet mode and then reconnect the dock to it, I've a very hard time trying to make the keyboard and touchpad working again. The fact is that the usb port on the dock doesn't seem to have any problem at all, only the touchpad and the keyboad. I can't figure out if that's a software or an hardware problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem with my keyboard on my dell studio 1737. When you press certain keys on the keyboard the adjacent keys are activated as well as the key itself. I've tried various techniques I've read about to correct the problem such as removing power from the laptop for an extended period of time and installing new bios drivers but nothing seems to work. From the information I can gather this is a common problem with this model of Dell laptop. What is the best way to correct this problem. Will replacing the keyboard correct this problem or is there some other problem causing the malfunction?

I believe the HP's keyboard is 92% and the AA1's is 89% I believe. It feels "okay" to type on, obviously not the best due to its size compared to a normal keyboard, but am wondering if the HP's is worth the price jump (paid 300 for mine).

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have had this laptop for only a year and the other day when plugging in my power while the laptop was on, left keys on the keyboard stopped working. A friend suggested I take the battery out for a bit and then plug it in without the battery. So I did and the keyboard worked for a couple of days like that. Then one day it stopped working again.
To be exact these are the keys that are not working:
Esc, F1, F2, F3,
~, 1, 2, 3,
Tab, Q, W, E,
Caps Lock, A, S, D,
Shift, Z, X, C,
Ctrl, Fn, windows, Alt

If you want it to point to other programs, simply
1. copy and paste onto notepad
2. Change "wmplayer.exe" to something else the reason I don't use the full path is because wmplayer is in C:Windows and the shortcut can automatically find anything in C:Windows.
3. If the program is in Program Files you have to use the full path eg."C:Program FilesXXXXXX.exe"
4. Change the Label and description (although it doesn't work as in display the word Windows Media Player when you click it)
5. Save as backup.reg
6. Double Click then Confirm and you are done.
7.There are other keys however I don't recommend modifying them as they are pretty useful like battery saver mode and Wireless Shortcut.
8.To Locate other shortcut keys find the executable path and trace it to the specific keys.
9.LManager (LaunchManager) always hold the key data.
I've had this Aspire for a while but I never got the media keys (play, stop, etc) to work.
Another thigs that doesn't work is the scroll key below the touch pad.
How can I get them to work? I feel like something has to be configured/installed.
I have an Aspire 5733Z laptop. I just recently lost the capability to adjust the volume using the keyboard shortcut of Fn key with up or down arrow keys. I have uninstalled and installed the Realtek HD driver.

I also realized that when I switch the button of speed and stamina the window that ask you if restart does not apear.
