I have damaged the right shift keycap - it is still in place but badly defaced.
I live in Spain, so finding a repair facility is difficult (believe it or not).
I would like to replace the keycap - but I can't discover what key type it is (I was going to try to get a replacement from a seller on eBay in Canada). The seller lists key type A-11, A-12, A-18, A-37 . To purchase, I need to specify which type.

i am reluctant to attempt to remove the key to check the type.
Can anyone tell me me which type the aspire 3690 has?
Or maybe someone has already replaced a keycap on this model and can recogise the type I need to specify?
I have a aspire 3690 running vista. The left side of the keyboard types fine. The right side some keys don't work other type multiple letters and preforms different action. I replaced the keyboard twice thinking i bought a faulty one but still have the same problem. If i use a external USB or the onscreen keyboard it works fine. I also flashed the bio and still no change.

I have a Acer Aspire 3690. It has a Intel Celeron 420 M @ 1.60 Ghz with 512 RAM (Recently updated to 2 GB)
Now I am pretty sure this is compatible with mine: (Here) (NewEgg seems to be having problems with the website, just fyi, unless it is my computer)
It is a Intel Core Duo T2300 @ 1.66 Ghz. Now I have been wanting to know if the SOCKET is correct. Now according to NewEgg, it says it is a Socket M. Now according to utilities I have been running it says mine is a Socket 479.
So I looked that up and it turns out is it is basically a 478 (478 Pins) but they just said 479 for differentiating. And I have heard that Socket M and 479 are NOT the same and i have heard that they are, because sites such as NewEgg dont have Socket 479 processors cause they are actually Socket 478 Processors.
So anyways, i wanted to look up the package type to help me identify. My Package is a Micro-FCPGA. Now the one I want to get is a Micro-FCPGA as well. Now NewEgg doesn't tell you this.
So i found this place: (Here) They called there Socket a: Socket 479 Pin. Then i scroll down and it says: The Intel Core Duo Processors are available in 478-pin Micro-FCPGA and 479-ball Micro-FCBGA packages. This is 478-pin Micro-FCPGA package. Model: BX80539T2300.........................
I'm working on my friends laptop (model mentioned above). He does not have the eRecovery CD so I'm unable to restore the machine back to factory. I tried loading XP Pro (Volume License) before and after disabling D2D in the BIOS and wiping the HDD.
Once the installation begins, the machine begins to install the necessary files normally, I reach the "Starting Windows" prompt then the machine crashes to the following error(s):
Technical information: *** STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005,0XF854A0BF,0XF8996208,0XF8995F08) pci.sys - Address F854A0BF base at F8543000, Datestamp 3b7d855c ***
No additional hardware is attached to the machine during install, It has the default hardware installed. The same Volume License install disk worked fine on an older Aspire 3000 model, Dell, Gateway and (2) custom builds.
Have a new 3690-2970 with 512 memory Vista Home basic and it runs extremely slow. It has only been on the internet to do MS updates so I know it is not infected with spyware causing it to run slowly. I was thinking a memory upgrade would help.
I got DDR2 533 SO-DIMM, 200-pin memory for it 1 gig but can't for the life of me determine where the memory chip is located
I have looked in two areas on the back of the notebook and can't find it. I looked under Hardrive. and then there is another small panel with one screw but when I opened that there was just this chrome box in there.
Question 2 once I find it can I use both the 512 and 1gig together or only the one 1 gig chip?
I tried locating a tech manual on this notebook and none of the links showed manuals for this model.
My PC allows me to save and burn files onto CD-Rs- but everytime I insert a DVD-R to do the same, a message pops up saying "please insert a writeable disc."
I've tried formatting the DVD-Rs, but the same message appears, or says "no disc detected, please insert a writeable disc."
I have a 5920G with the 160GB HDD and the 8600 GT graphics card.
I upgraded the RAM to 3GB which didn't such a big change to be honest, but it did help with my Ubuntu partition.
Anyway I have a few niggles and some bigger issues with it:
1) whenever I play games such as Day of Defeat/Counter Strike Source, the computer shuts down after about 20 minutes. It just overheats, badly. It feels really, really hot at times when I play. I don't play with heavy graphics, more like the opposite in fact.
It ran Modern Warfare 1 but again, for less than 10 minutes before shutting off.
I have it on a wooden desk, so there's not much air circulating under the laptop. I tried propping it higher up with various things but to no avail.
I don't quite understand what I can do... what's the point in getting a decent graphics card in a high powered PC (my PC before was a P Celeron with 256MB RAM ) if it's not going to be able to run it fast due to overheating..? I'm a little at lost.
2) and that's mostly a niggle... I used Media Monkey as my media player, and PlayMovie as my DVD player.
Whenever I have a DVD in the player, and I use MediaMonkey, the play/pause media key brings up the Windows Media Player to start playing the DVD. It's very frustrating as I have something in the DVD player most of the time and I basically play music out of it whenever it's even on. I'd uninstall WMP but that's basically impossible...
So I'd love to be able to use that media key without anything popping up to full screen and making everything else lag, if it's possible...
The irony there is that while Ubuntu didn't see those media keys at first, a little script later with the help of the Ubuntu forum and they now work BETTER with any media player.
Don't know what else... I tried the latest graphics card driver and wouldn't advise it, I rolled back. Otherwise it's a nice laptop for sure.
I have the Dell Studio 1537 and I have two issues :
1. Since I bought the laptop, the media (light) buttons aren't functioning properly. The media player-button isn't working at all, and after I upgraded to Windows 8.1 only the Eject-button does work. Earlier I tried some Registry tweaks, but they did not do the job..
2. The scroll line on the touch pad doesn't work, even when the driver for it is installed properly. How I can bring it to usefulness again?
Anyone know of a way to make the QuickSet media keys work with iTunes when using another application? Big annoyance to have to navigate back to iTunes when I want to change the song or stop it, though the Win7 Jump List controls help a bit.
I just got my replacement SXPS16, the media keys (volume etc) all function but do not light up.
On my old laptop they lit up left to right then stayed on, that computer had bios A08, this one has A10 and im running windows 7, even on a bios boot they do not start ever
I have a 3690-2970.Everything is on the C partition of my hard drive and I can't get anything to write to the D partition. The C partition became full. This caused an error in Vista that required a clean reinstall of Vista. How can I get files to write onto the D partition of my hard drive?
My wife's Aspire One 725 went down a couple of months ago with a bad hard drive. Of course, I hadn't maed a recovery USB. I finally ordered one from the Store, and tried it out tonight. I set the boot order to USB HDD, and, well, nothing happens! First, I see a cursor in the top left corner, and then I see the little circle of balls wait indicator, but i never get any other screen! Could I have a bad USB media from ACER?
A friend has a 3690. Haven't seen it, but this is what they describe as happening.
Sometimes! on startup four? beeps are heard and nothing appears on screen. Turn off/on again and it will most likely boot into Windows BUT the clock is wrong, reverts to July 2005 I think. Reset the clock and all OK, until the next time it happens.
Somedays it behaves, other times not so, maybe doing this twice in a day.
As the clock is wrong does this perhaps point to the CMOS backup battery?
Any other checks we can do?
Would entering the BIOS at start up ? "F2" prove anything. I know it's difficult when its not in front of you.
i have recently bought acer aspire 6930 g laptop but when i play song with windows media player it play normally but when it turn on wow effect and tru bass of windows media player i found that the sound of song stop although it is still playing and when i turn wow effect off the problem continue but when i turn wow effect off and close windows media player and play the song again the song paly normally as this problem does not occur till i turn on wow effect of windows media player also i notice that when i turn on laptop its vista boot time is slow ..is this slow boot time is normal in acer aspire 6930 g and you should know that my model of acer aspire 6930g has processor core 2 duo t6400 2 ghz and 2 mgb cach and 4 gb ddr2 ram and has dobly home theater and 1000 gb hard disk.
Few days ago I've installed Xubuntu on my Acer Aspire 5920G notebook. I saw that blue media buttons (these on the right side of the keyboard) started to work as a mouse wheel. Using 'play/pause' with 'stop' I can scroll vertically, and using 'next' with 'prev' I can scroll horizontally. It's quite annoying, because I often use them accidentally. When I was using Windows, there wasn't any problem (buttons didn't worked). Is there any method to disable them (like in Windows)?
