Feb 26, 2015My Windows 7 Acer Aspire 5552 laptop 's display brightness has lessened and I can not even open Power Options in Control Panel. When I connect another monitor to my Acer Aspire the brightness is just fine. Audio service is not running either. What should I do?

Apr 21, 2009I have had this laptop for only a year and the other day when plugging in my power while the laptop was on, left keys on the keyboard stopped working. A friend suggested I take the battery out for a bit and then plug it in without the battery. So I did and the keyboard worked for a couple of days like that. Then one day it stopped working again.

Mar 9, 2015I bought one for a customer, and it's been a nightmare. I've done all of the suggestions and ended up taking it to an authorized repair facility. They "reset" it and said it was fixed. Of course it was not. Acer has to provide a fix as it is their product that does not function correctly.

Jan 24, 2015I bought a new Acer E5-571-5552 recently, it came with Windows 8.1 64bit. One of the ways I use my laptop often is in "docked mode", basically connect it to external monitor via HDMI, and external USB mouse & keyboard. I set the windows power options for "close lid" to do nothing, then it works fine like a desktop. This works fine with all other laptops I've used in the past (Lenovo, HP, Toshiba...etc). But this new Acer has trouble waking from sleep, the USB keyboard & mouse only light up, but doesn't wake up the fan/drive/monitor. I have to open the lid and press a key on the laptop (USB keyboard/mouse still doesn't).
I've opened case 3601882U and chatted with 2 agents, one had me update to latest BIOS 1.11 which didn't resolve it. The other tried to insist it was a limited feature, that the Acers had to have lid open to wake up the computer from sleep. I think this is a broken feature. Is this true for all Acers, or just this windows 8.1 model?

Nov 30, 2014I have a 4 year old Aspire 5552-5898 which is having issues ....
First issue is that the Laptop doesn't always boot. When this happens, the power button will light, the fan will spin, the HDD will start, but the screen stays black. Sometimes the PC will restart but the same thing will happen. Usually when this happens, if you hold down the power button, the laptop will power down, only to start up again. The only way to end this cycle is to unplug the machine and pull out the battery. Also of note this seems to happen 100% of the time if the machine is not plugged in, and about 50% of the time when it is.
The next issue occurs when the machine does actually boot. I HAVE to enter the bios because it never holds the date. I thought this could be a CMOS battery issue, but even after replacing that, the problem persists. After entering the date, and saving and exiting, the machine will boot into windows just fine.

Acer :: 1810T: Arrow Keys Not Working
Apr 20, 2010I've noticed our new 1810T's arrow and PageUp/PageDown keys often don't respond to presses, specifically when pressed higher on the key (along the upper border as someone says in one of the 1810T owner threads). This ends up happening quite a lot the way I situate my hands over the keyboard and the touchpad, and is a serious issue for me since I'm using these keys a lot in the development environment I use. As referenced above I've seen a few mentions of this issue on the forum, but no clear confirmation whether it is normal for the 1810T. Can anyone with a 1810T out there verify whether their unit exhibits this issue?

Nov 1, 2007I've fot Acer Aspire 9423WSMi laptop with Vista Home premium preinstalled. Untill recently, it worked just fine, but the other day, my navigation keys on the touchpad just stopped responding (everything else on the pad works OK). I've tried to update the driver, but the response was that I'm using the latest driver and the device is working propperly. I've also tried switching the pad ON/OFF with Fn+F7 but to no avail.

If you want it to point to other programs, simply
1. copy and paste onto notepad
2. Change "wmplayer.exe" to something else the reason I don't use the full path is because wmplayer is in C:Windows and the shortcut can automatically find anything in C:Windows.
3. If the program is in Program Files you have to use the full path eg."C:Program FilesXXXXXX.exe"
4. Change the Label and description (although it doesn't work as in display the word Windows Media Player when you click it)
5. Save as backup.reg
6. Double Click then Confirm and you are done.
7.There are other keys however I don't recommend modifying them as they are pretty useful like battery saver mode and Wireless Shortcut.
8.To Locate other shortcut keys find the executable path and trace it to the specific keys.
9.LManager (LaunchManager) always hold the key data.

I use the notebook mostly as a docking station, with a larger monitor and separate keyboard, so it's not an issue of the keys being misused or over-used. But the headphone and/or microphone is working very fine. I went to a local laptop repairing shop for diagnosis. Unfortunately they were unable to find out the actual problem.
