HP Pavilion Dv6 Display :: Fn F2 - F3 Brightness Hotkeys Not Working After Formatting
Oct 28, 2014Since my laptop (dv6 pavilion 7090el) had to be formatted to another copy of windows 7 (64bit), i can't manage to make hotkeys for brightness(f2-f3)/volume(f9-f10).

I tried to install/uninstall/install HP quick launch software (with all the system restarting combos possible) and the software doesn't really seem to be installed, since it only appears in the Control panel but not anywhere else.

The BIOS "action key" option in System configuration is already "enabled" ....

Nov 9, 2013The F keys short cuts (mute mic, brightness, projector etc.) has stopped working on my Lenovo Helix? It used to work in the beginning, but after few updates, they do not work, except for the volume short cuts.Â

Apr 27, 2009i recieved my 1640 wiped it installed Windows 7, did the driver updates and everything works great.
The problem Im having is none of my media button, volume up/down mute, etc... on the top work. I did install Quickset, no luck.
Anyone have any ideas, i remember on my 1530 I have to install Media Direct or something like that
Lenovo ThinkPad L R/SL :: R500 (2714-CTO) / Green Hotkeys Volume Bar Has Disappeared
Jun 2, 2008I just noticed that the green hotkeys volume bar has disappeared from two R500’s (2714-CTO) that I own. Both are running Windows 7 professional. One is running Windows 7 Professional 32 bit, while The other is running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. The 64 bit machine has just been re-imaged from a set of original Lenovo supplied recovery DVD’s. The reload process installed Norton Internet Security (2009). After the re-load was complete, I installed Windows 7 SP1 from an original Microsoft Windows 7 SP1 DVD. Next, I manually installed the latest version of Update Retriever and System Update, turned on the antenna for the first time, and ran System Update to update all Lenovo drivers.

The other machine has been running Windows 7 professional 32 bit since being purchased in 2009. It has never been re-imaged, and the green volume bar was working until recently.

Both are currently running Hotkey Features Integration V3.89.0000, and Lenovo Power Management V1.67.04.05. Â

which software, and which version of that software, is needed to get that functionality back.

Apr 8, 2009I have an SZ691 trying to go from Vista Business 32 to 64 bit. Everything but FN, Graphics switching, and S1 S2 keys work fine. 64 bit is very stable and fast but I would like everything to work and also be able to load from Sony restore disc. The thread about ABR may help too.
Anyone have any idea how to get FN working? I think the video camera works but the Viao software won't recognize it, strange?
It would be nice if we could "STICKY" all 64 bit OS threads. Here are some that I have read.

Feb 12, 2010I recently got a sony vaio CW at bestbuy yesterday. The link for it is below. Brought it home and started using it.
Everything worked perfectly for the first hour, and then the wireless just went out. It will no longer allow me to search for wireless networks. Two other laptops in my house are working fine so its not the router.
The wireless switch on the front is ON, however the little light is not lit. When I go to the SmartWi Connection Utility in the taskbar, it only lists an on/off option for Bluetooth, no Wifi option

I picked up a Lenovo Ultrabay III adapter for a W510 I had on order and subsequently canceled after 2 months of delays in shipping.
The DVD drive is attached via a micro-SATA connector. If you haven't seen one before, here's a comparison to a regular SATA connector .....

note:i downloaded all the drivers for x32 from the site and still they don't work and i checked device manager and found nothing not installed and b4 my format there were cool wallpapers vaio and some applications i don't remember from vaio but didn't find them on the site

May 19, 2010I just got my new Z, burned the recovery disk, did a clean install of retail W7, and now wanted to go back to original factory setting. So I popped my recovery disk back in, selected "Restore Complete System", went through all the default options. Then I got "An error occurred while executing an application." at 17% into recovery, and the recovery stopped.
Did I screwed up on the recovery disk? My recovery disk is 7.90GB.

Is there a chance that Sony's drivers were written for XP SP2, and that SP3 is the cause of my problems?
Reason I'm thinking this is that SP3 recognized some devices that SP2 doesn't recognize

Feb 14, 2010i upgraded my hard drive and installed windows 7 this weekend. Everything is working fine except for my fn keys will not work.
I have looked high and low through the forums to try to find a fix. I have been installing Sony drivers for the past 3 hours, rebooting between each installation, and it still isn't working perfectly.
I've gotten to a point where the Volume keys work, and when I push Fn+F5 to lower the brightness, the little brightness meter pops up and the sound is made. But, the brightness won't go any lower than maximum.
The screen is really bright and it's killing my eyes, and draining my battery crazy fast!

Sony :: Vaio Touchpad Stops Working
Feb 15, 2009If anyone out there runs into an issue with the touchpad on a Sony Vaio where it suddenly stops working it may be due to static electricity. I bought a brand new VGN-NS240E (Jan 08 @ Best Buy) and while setting it up I ran into this issue and have seen many other reports on the WEB of the Sony touchpads suddenly dying. Try these steps for an easy fix:
1 - power down the unit.
2 - unplug the power adapter.
3 - remove the battery.
4 - hold down the power switch for about a minute or two.
5 - re-insert the battery.
6 - reconnect the power adapeter.
7 - power the unit on and see if the touchpad lives!
These quick and simple steps worked for me 2x. Noted on the second time it happened that I shocked the machine after walking across the carpet, that's why I said above I think its related to a static charge - bad design on this model of touch pad I suppose. I have Dell laptops and Acers never seen it before until this Sony.

Mar 21, 2009I was taking my Z690 apart to put in a larger hard drive and I did something wrong because the keyboard no longer works even in the bios. The cable seems snug on both ends. I tried removing it from the motherboard and plugging it back in and it still doesn't respond. I've rebooted - pulled the battery booted again - the 6 key is the only key that works. I've tried caps lock - 6 is the only key that types. The touchpad doesn't work either.

May 22, 2009While starting the notebook, it beeps, (short toned but continuous) and pressing Alt / Ctrl or function keys stops that noise , then system getting booted. In the login screen, in the password field automatically populated with "*" and entering correct password get into a windows.
Every key is working except 'p' and this sometimes works. But to my wonder, this key automatically getting typed in text areas frequently. it continuously prints that key whenever focus goes on the text area.
