Does anyone get their touchpad fully working with XP? Even after installing Sony Synaptics driver from Sony site, mine still only works like a regular mouse and there is no option to control the tapping
View 7 RepliesIf anyone out there runs into an issue with the touchpad on a Sony Vaio where it suddenly stops working it may be due to static electricity. I bought a brand new VGN-NS240E (Jan 08 @ Best Buy) and while setting it up I ran into this issue and have seen many other reports on the WEB of the Sony touchpads suddenly dying. Try these steps for an easy fix:
1 - power down the unit.
2 - unplug the power adapter.
3 - remove the battery.
4 - hold down the power switch for about a minute or two.
5 - re-insert the battery.
6 - reconnect the power adapeter.
7 - power the unit on and see if the touchpad lives!
These quick and simple steps worked for me 2x. Noted on the second time it happened that I shocked the machine after walking across the carpet, that's why I said above I think its related to a static charge - bad design on this model of touch pad I suppose. I have Dell laptops and Acers never seen it before until this Sony.
Z520 touchpad won't work when the laptop comes back from hibernation, any idea since I have to restart each time.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got the new acer 5740-6491 model and the alps touchpad (multi-touch) does not work well.
When in use the cursor jumps around the screen very erratically.
Ive tried reinstalling the driver and using the synaptics driver as well. Neither work.
Does anyone have support in this issue? Basically all I want is to scroll on the touchpad and doubleclick.
After turning on our Inspiron 17R laptop the cursor is between 2 user profiles and I can't get the cursor to move using the touchpad. I tried using the Hot Key to enable the touchpad but that didn't work.

Machine: HP ELITEBOOK 8570W
OS: Windows 8.1 64-bit ver
Its current state is: no respond upon touching it; double-touching up the upper left courner also no response(if it's working normally, the little light will light up AND THEN the touchpad will stop working coresspondingly.)I have tried following methods:
-Restart the computer;
-Reinstall the touchpad's driver to initial state;
-Update the touchpad's driver to latest version;
-Download the sp51647 driver, install it(failed);
In Device Manager, I can still see the Synaptics SMBus TouchPad under the Mouse and Other Pointer Devices category. The manager says the touch-pad is working normally. What I suspect to be the reason is that, this morning I started the laptop without connecting the AC adapter but only on battery and the voltage is too low for the touchpad to function normally.
My touchpad driver stopped working today afternoon. It was working perfectly and suddenly it stopped and i have recently (last week) purchased it. I uninstalled and the reinstalled the driver but still its not working. Also, please note down my Notebook details:

After some driver updates (Bios and touchpad) scrolling on touchpad stopped working. I also did a reinstall of the drivers.

I have opened the laptop and checked if any cable is loose or not conneced ,so I pulled it out and inserted properly and tried again .but it doesn't show any sensitivity .checked the driver also in the device manager where it shows as synaptics PS/2 port Touchpad and says the device is working properly and driver also up to date.

After a shower and breakfast, it starts then TOUCHPAD ERROR.
Bring it to office and get there 9:00 a.m, run TOUCHPAD then good but WIRELESS LAN ERROR.
Before i manage my office works, run WIRELESS LAN then good but goes to BLACK SCREEN ERROR.
After half an hour talks for stuffs, BLACK SCREEN ok then AUTO RESTART ERROR.
Half an hour later, it come back to windows very well but FAN is still sleeping.
Emails, market data pages are running. So I keep to carry on without FAN working. Some minutes later, SHUT DOWN automatically.
Try to restart, cleverly comes to windows back and FAN also works very well but CD comes out without commands.Then to lunch.
After lunch, i resume my works. My laptop is also again to above ERRORS.Then go back to my home at 6:00 p.m.

Suddenly the scroller on the touchpad has stopped working.
The small touchpad icon has also disappeared from the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
about 2 months ago i bought an Acer 5920G, a week or so ago suddenly the touchpad stopped working, i dont recall how it happened, i think i just booted Windows Vista as i usually do and the touchpad didnt work when i tried to click my user name so i could enter my password to logon.
I thought maybe the driver had gone bad so i rebooted and booted Windows XP( on a different partition) and in windows xp the touchpad also didnt work anymore.
Is this a hardware failure? Or are there other possibilities? I tried removing the driver and reinstalling, but it still didnt work.
i have an acer aspire 5335 and the touch pad aint working i have not installed anything new or used a mouse or anything i have even restored back to factory settings and i cant seem to install the drivers i have downloaded them from acer offical site but they aint working. i cant even open the synapsis to even do any test or anything and i have tried the fn+f7 and that is not doing anything.

Taking out the battery works fine...but my question is, will I ever be able to use the computer with a battery in it? Do I need a new battery? Or is my laptop forever a battery-less one?

View 5 Replies View RelatedTo start off, i have a dell xps m1530. i just recently (a week ago) installed windows 8 on it and it was working perfectly fine until about a day ago. My touchpad suddenly started typing symbols when i moved my finger around on it and then all together it just quit working including the buttons.
I later discovered that if i were to press the caps lock key my whole keyboard would quit working until i restarted my computer. I've tried reinstalling all different kinds of alps drivers for my touchpad including the one i had before the windows 8 switch, which was supposedly compatible with windows 8, and still have got nothing to work or change.
Under the device manager my touchpad still shows up but has a "code 24" under the description of it which means something isnt working properly, not plugged in or the drivers are nonexistant. I am so lost now and dont know how to get my touchpad working again or why my keyboard quits working when i hit caps lock (which doesnt actually turn on the caps lock anymore).
I bought a dell xps 13 a few months ago. I was pretty happy with its performance untill a few days ago, when its touchpad refuses to scroll periodically. While it is refusing to scroll, other multi-finger gestures like zoom, pinch etc work. Also, touchscreen scroll and mouse scroll also work. Problem doesn't go away even if I disable and re enable the driver. It sometimes goes away on its own, or on restarting the computer.

I am having issues with my touchpad not working, I have gone through most of the troubleshooting tips such as hitting touchpad enable/disable hotkey, turning of the laptop and holding down the power button for 15 seconds, and downloading the suggested driver. The most distressing thing is that when I go the mouse hardware/driver, the only thing that the computer is recognizing is the usb mouse I am having to use.
View 2 Replies View RelatedTouch pad is no longer working. I have had my Dell Inspiron 17R for abut 15 months and the touchpad has not worked for at least 12 of them. At first I noticed the problem after my computer would install updates and I'd have to restore the computer to a particular snapshot point. That worked for all of one week. Then I also checked the drivers. That was unsuccessful. I have also tried pressing F3 + Fn and nothing. I won't begin to mention that I have to hold this laptop a particular way to get it to turn on.... I do know, the touchpad on a basically new laptop is supposed to work and the device is supposed to turn on when you press the power button without having to do some form of sorcery.

I have tried the function key to make sure it is enabled and did the f12 on boot but not sure I ran the correct test. I have a Dell support depot nearby so I may have to take the laptop to them if this can't be resolved - I have purchased pro support so it's fully covered.

My touchpad just randomly stopped working when I opened my laptop this morning. I'm using an external mouse right now but need to have access to the touchpad. I have already attempted the following:
Rebooting 5 times
Trying function keys
Toggling on/off: there is not light above the touch pad, and double tapping does not facilitate any change in the light or function of the touchpad
Reinstalling touchpad driver twice
Searching mouse properties: does not list touchpad as mouse device.
With this process able to work with touch pad in Windows 8.1. Another problem observerd that the TP behaving abnormally. It stop sometimes and sometimes move. Checked with Windows 7 , found to be working fine

View 1 Replies View Related2 days ago I bought a acer notebook. The touchpad is working but not the gestures. If i go to the "mouse settings", there are no specific settings for my touchpad. Just the normal mouse settings like pointer speed. I already downloaded the 2 driver which are on the acer support site: TouchPad_Synaptics_18.1.2.1_W81x64_A and TouchPad_ELANTECH_13.6.1.1_W81x64_A. I have installed boot of them sucesfully (there was the green pick).
Also for ur info there are no warning signes for unknown devices in the device manager.
