if the sony Z590 was:
P8600 intel (2.4 ghz)
4gb ram ddr3
250gb hdd 5400rpm
geforce 9300gs 256mb no shared
1600x900 screen
and the macbook pro was:
P8600
4gb ddr3
250gb
geforce 9400 shared ram
1280x800
I am planning to buy the new aluminum macbook. This will be my first mac experience. Will the base model at 2.0ghz be able to play 1080p mkv file? And yes, I do know the resolution is only 1200x800. The 1080p mkv movies are from my desktop computer. It would be a hassle to convert everything to lower resolution to be able to play on the macbook.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron 9300 notebook and am wondering if it's time for a replacement. Things were fine until about a week or two ago where the system was running a bit sluggish in Linux during the more CPU intensive stuff like compiling and VMWare. When the CPU kicks into max speed the fan usually goes off as well and since about a week or two ago the fan has been on almost constantly. Figuring I could live with the machine running in max speed I didn't think much of it until now. Running RightMark CPU Clock Utility (RMClock) under Windows I'm told the speed is around 800MHz, as well as the utilities in Linux. Weird thing is the info under System Properties General Tab tell me it's running at 1.86GHz... BIOS tells me the min is 800MHz and max is 1.86GHz, however it is currently at 800MHz. Running the usual stuff in Windows and Linux that I know usually would spike the CPU into max speed no longer does this. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm awaiting shipment of a duo core 1410 Acer. My intent was on using it primarily as a HTPC. I know it has HDMI/spdif outputs but I have been told when inputting into my receiver from either of these outputs, sound will be limited to stereo 2 channel audio.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI need a new laptop, and am torn right now between the Macbook 13" or the Asus UL30VT. I know they are completely different animals. I like the 13.3" size of laptop. One thing I really like about the ULV notebooks is the battery life. I have owned a unibody Macbook 2.4ghz (old model), and the performance was great, but the integrated card lacked a little. The new ones are supposed to be quite an improvement though. Anyways, if you were just to compare the G210m in the Asus vs the new integrated 320m, which will preform better? I know these aren't high performance but I would like to do full HD video with no lag, and maybe some slight gaming.

i9300 owner here. It's killing me that I can't get HD video streaming (Hulu, Youtube, Slingbox, etc...) to work smoothly on the 9300.
Any suggestions on how/if I can make this happen. It's killing me as I'm getting a new desktop that will stream HD just fine but I wanted to retire the 9300 to my media watching machine at work?

I seem to have the latency issue in check. I read in a thread to download intels matrix storage manager, and that helped. I have also disabled the esata ports and LAN. I am running vista buisness x86 sp1. I am just using the drivers that came on the install cd. I am hoping that someone can help me out, because if I cant get this fixed I might just return it. I really like this computer and dont want to have to do that.
View 10 Replies View RelatedLooking to pick up a notebook for almost the sole purpose of hooking up to an HDTV over HDMI and watching online streaming video. I was looking at the dv2z but the slower processor was a concern for Flash-based video and other processor intensive streaming video. Am I safe going with the dv2z, or should I be looking at the dv3z? Or even the dv4t? All three seem to be in the same approximate price range. More compact is better, but acceptable performance is most important.

Do 4810t stream multimedia content better if running Windows 7? I guess i can wait till then.
Videos from Vimeo and Streetfire.net ( i work in automotive media ) are slow, stuttering or just plain unwatchable. Some of it isn't even HD content, and even when you wait to cache up and load then play it still is choppy.
Similar to a post about the T530 I used to record streaming audio (internet radio, youtube, playback etc.) with Snagit on my old computer, now on new W530 I cannot find "line out, mono out, wave out," devices to record from, only "microphone".Â
On the Lenovo W530 using Windows 8 Pro I followed the follwoing steps posted elsewhere for the T530:
Â
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Recording ... right-click to check Show Disabled Devices, then choose Stereo Mix as Default (may also want to right-click on Stereo Mix and double-check Properties: make sure Listen level is not at zero)Â
Â
After showing disabled devices on the sound > recording tab the tab still shows only one device, the "Microphone".Â
Â
If it is possible how on  Windows 8 or the W530 (and possibly other models) do we get the line out / mix out / mono out / whatever they call it for the sound that comes out of the computer? Â
I used to record streaming audio (internet radio, youtube, playback etc.) with Audacity on my old T43; now on new T530 no matter how I configure Realtek sound and Audacity I cannot. On the T43 I recorded using "SoundMAX Digital Audio: Wave out". Wit other soundcards it could be "Stereo mix". I get no option of choosing either Wave out or Stereo mix in Audacity.Below is an extract of Audacity WIKI page: URL....According to this information the issue might be Lenovo disabling the possibility of direct recording???
Â
"Sometimes "Stereo Mix" can only be made to work by using the control panel supplied by the sound card manufacturer - this is often reported with RealTek inbuilt sound devices. Try launching the sound device control panel from the Windows Control Panel or the system tray (by the clock). If you see a volume control for Stereo Mix, try clicking to select it. Confusingly, some RealTek devices "select" an input by muting all but one, so in this case, mute everything except stereo mix. If you don't see Stereo Mix, click the wrench icon and enable Stereo Mix in the dialogue that pops up.
In some RealTek versions the option to check is "Enabled recording multi-streaming". You should now see a volume control for Stereo Mix. Remember to select or unmute it as above. Be aware that on some machines, the "Stereo Mix" option will never work because it is disabled internally by the driver settings due to copyright concerns. This is a known issue with Lenovo Thinkpad laptops, but sometimes editing the driver files can enable stereo mix."

A, when watching streaming movies on Hulu in full screen, high quality, the video is jerky. I can watch hidef rips just fine, but streaming high quality is very poor.
And it's not my connection, as both my desktops and my other laptop (an older M2000) handle it just fine.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell Inspiron N5110. After two years, my laptop starts to have reduced performance in gaming and watching streaming videos. I did a factory reset. Everything seems fine.Â
I did a test by installing Warcraft 3 which I played with no lag at all. After that, I started to install/ update the Graphic drivers, Windows updates and installed Starcraft 2.
Then I played Warcraft 3 to test the performance and it lags like for every 2 seconds in game.Â
Please note that I test my system by playing WC3 after installing the following individual items:
Item 1: Graphics driver
Item 2: Windows updates
Item 3: Starcraft 2Â

This means I install WC3 and played and there is no lags. When i do Item 1, WC3 lags.Â

I have XP on my macbook pro via bootcamp/vmware. I tried putting 7 on it, but then XP stopped working. So I deleted the partition that 7 was installed on and XP worked again.
Is there a way I can have both XP and 7 working via bootcamp? As far as I know I can't, so I was thinking about running 7 with bootcamp and XP via vmware. Also ever since deleting the partition that 7 was installed on XP doesn't seem to be able to boot via vmware. It was says I have to remove the physical disk from the virtual machine then add it again. How do I do this?
The Dell E4300 for example is generally inferior (IMO) to the Vaio Z (heavier, slower, uglier, lower quality screen, lower quality build materials, etc.) yet it costs just about the same."
Sony Z here in Canada: $2614 before tax ($45 shipping)
If you make the warranty the same (3 years), $2943 before tax + $45 shipping
Same specs, I paid $2100 before tax (and free shipping) for the Dell E4300. Is it worth the difference when the keyboard (I don't like the Z's keyboard)?
I have to wait the same week (Oct 14/15) to receive either.
I am considering the P8700 2.53, T9550 2.66, and the T9800 2.93. I know the T series requires more power to run thus causing more heat to be generated. but for anyone who has any of these processors, does the computer actually get hot to the point where it affects the computer or your hands?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just accepted an offer on my MBP and I'll be purchasing a new unibody MBP in the following week.
I have a lot of personal data and applications that are backed up right now in the form of a Time Machine backup.
The old MBP is a SR (sig below) and the new one will be the unibody; different specs, GPU, HD etc...
Can I just plug in my external HD that has my Time Machine backup into the new machine and restore it? Would the fact that there are different hardware complicate matters? And if so, since I still have my old machine for now, what would be the best solution to do what I'm trying to do here?
I've recently offered to help out a friend who's Acer aspire has stopped working.
It won't book into windows, but she is keen to keep her old files.
I installed a 2nd version of windows onto the machine to basically back up the whole disk using acronis true image. I've now got that image storage remotley on my own machine.
I think she bought the computer 2nd hand and never got a burned copy of the recovery disks and for some reason the Alt-F10 thing doesn't work to get into the recovery stuff (I've checked in the Bios for D2D)
I've managed to make the PQService partition visible and was wondering what was the best way to restore the machine to factory defaults. I created a CD from the STCDBOOT.ISO file, which allows me to book into the recovery manager, but all it does is prompts for the first disk/system disk.
I'm guessing that all the data required is held in the PQService partition, but I'm not sure how to create the backup DVD's that should have been done when the machine was first used.
I would image that the data is held in the 92EPIXIE.nnn files in the D2D/images directory of the PQService.
