View 4 RepliesOne more time I am doing the same changing as I did to my previous Vaio Z and TT,
but this time I am having some problem which I don’t understand…………
I have placed some photo in order to see what I am doing,
In the att.
photos you can see the device manager and what happening using the full WWAN European drivers package ,Vaio Smart Network,One Click Internet and the Qualcomm Gobi2000 driver,
It show always the “Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB Mobile Broadband Device 9225” with yellow warning
I've had my eye on the Sony Vaio VPCZ11 however, I would like to add an external hard drive for data storage, is the USB port the only way of hooking up an external hard drive? How come a high end notebook like this doesn't have a eSATA port?

I'm looking at purchasing an FW with only 2g of RAM and upgrading it myself cheaper than I can do buying it from Sony. The RAM from Sony is DDR2-800 PC2-6400. where to buy a couple 4g modules (2x4, 8g total)?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a Vaio Z620D, it's a Canadian Model. It's got only 2GB of ram, so I am looking to add 2 more. I was told that it should match the frequency or something like that, I am not too sure about the whole deal.

Here is the detailed specs for this laptop, just scroll down for the RAM info.

Ive recently bought 2-2gb sticks to upgrade my memory to 4gb. Ive seen that for vista it can only support up to 3gb, which is fine,
but my computer still says that it is only 2gb? whats wrong
I have a Sony Vaio S460 laptop.
Recently it had been lagging really bad, and so I was advised that it might be a power supply problem, or, another solution would be to upgrade the memory.
I went to my local computer store asking about it, and he recommended trying to upgrade the memory (I currently had two 256 MB memory sticks, for a total of 512).
I told him my model number, and he pointed me to a Kingston 1 GB memory stick, and said he was pretty sure that it would be compatible. Since it was only $10, I bought two of them.
so I went ahead and replaced the two 256 MB memory sticks with my newly acquired 1 GB memory sticks. But after I put the laptop back together, and I pushed the power button, nothing showed up on the screen (although the lights indicated the power was at least on)
Considering buying a UK spec Vaio FW laptop. How easy is it to upgrade the memory on this?
From 4 to 8 GB. Looking at the spec on the Sony UK site it looks like it's already fitted with 2x2GB RAM
And would either of these brands be compatible? - Crucial.com or Orcalogic.co.uk .....
Sony VAIO W211 comes with 1GB installed with max. upgrade limit of 2GB.
Can someone tell how easy or hard (as in Dell 1010, forget about doing it because you have to disassemble the whole thing) to upgrade the memory on this
I just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!).  It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional  It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb. Â
Â
I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. Â All set right?
Â
Not quite.  In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2"  However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2"  Opps!  There is no "3" and there is no "4"  In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?
I have a PCG-F580K running Win2k and Ubuntu in a dual-boot config. It runs great for most things I need it for but could use a little more memory. According to Sony, I am maxed out at 256MB but I believe it could take more. The PCG-F580K uses the 440BX chipset, which accepts 256MB modules, but only certain low density types. These should theoretically be the same ones used by Thinkpads of the same vintage. I will point you to [url] for reference. Can anyone confirm or deny the ability of my Sony to use 324 or even 512MB of RAM?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a valid license for Vista Ultimate 64bit. If I order a Z series with Vista Home 64 (cheapest option), will I have any problems updating it with my Ultimate 64?
In particular.. will I have all the necessary disks to install any Sony software that would normally come with the laptop? (stuff particular to the laptop.. like making everything work.. I don't care about 3rd party junk software like antivirus, works, etc).
I have the new Win7 disks from MSDN (pro and ultimate). Tried multiple times yesterday to upgrade my Z690 from Vista. Uninstalled all of the conflicting drivers/programs, it goes all the way through the install process, gets to the point where it copies over the old files, but then abruptly restarts and uses the Rollback program to get me into Vista again.
I tried 4 times, same result each time. Anyone have an idea if there's something I can do get this machine upgraded?
A clean install is not an option, too many programs I can't find the disks to...
have a TZ340 on order. At the time I thought it would be nice having an ultralight with an optical drive and really long battery life, but ten looking at the specs ULV U7600 1.2ghz cput and 100gb PATA 4200 rpm, 1gb ram, i'm starting to get buyers remorse cause it seems like the hardware is kind of dated already. Anyone with some of the older TZ models have any relatively cheap modification suggestions to speed up the laptop when I get it. I have some 2gb so dimms laying around so I'll just swap that in for the 1gb, but anyone have any suggestions on some smaller ssd drives available now? I believe the 100gb pata drive in the tz is a 1.8" drive, do they make 1.8" pata ssd drives?
View 4 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone have pictures or instructions to upgrade Z series wireless network card?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought my sony Z series in Oct 08, havent got the full spec infront of me. But it was the 4GB, 320GB model The past 18 months its been faultless apart from a problem with the left clicker under the touch pad which sony fixed very quickly.
Ive had a couple of problems recently with it overheating. Fans running at when seems like warp speed then the laptop turning off. The laptop seems to run really warm when I have the wireless on and using the internet etc. Ive done plenty of virus scans, defrags, disk clean up and cant seem to find anything un toward.
So my next port of call is to do a full system freash install. My questions are
With the speed that technology changes is it possible to upgrade any of my current Z series?
Or
would I be better off buying on of the latest Z series models?
The laptop is used alot for internet and some gaming.
I know that many of us have been seeking an inexpensive third-party RAM upgrade for our new Vaio Zs. Fortunately, I've found a great solution. Not only does this module use precisely the same RAM ICs as the currently shipping Vaio Z11 8GB machines, those RAMs just happen to be manufactured by the world's largest DRAM manufacturer (by far), Samsung. This module has been tested for over a week, and it has truly been a completely stable solution. Plus, I don't suppose that it'll hurt to point out that this is the least expensive 4GB DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM module that I can find in the United States right now! Moreover, it's sold by a very reputable vendor, whom I trust - EWiz.com (they're still making the transition from their old name, SuperBiiz). They've got great prices, ship fast, and stand behind what they sell - no, I have nothing whatsoever to do with them, other than being a customer.
Rock-solid RAM that's the cheapest, too! For details behind all the testing that allowed me to finally post this, see this thread (which started off as a look into RAM speeds on the new Vaio Zs). To pick these up, check out the Super Talent 4GB DDR3-1066 Samsung Chip Notebook Module at EWiz.com - literally priced below any other 4GB DDR3-1066 SO-DIMM on Pricewatch, as of 3/30/2010!
I was browsing at an online store today and I see that Intel has released 1.8" 160GB drives! These are 5mm thick.
Now I have upgraded my Z to a single 160G (2.5") but these should slip right in!
Does anyone know where I can get the required cable and the tray for the z-series notebooks

I would like to know if it would still be possible to upgrade my cooling system by just applying a thermal compound on the existing copper wire cooling system. I also plan to add more thermal compound on the cpu and heatsink.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just recently upgraded my Z from Vista x64 to Windows 7.
I am having a problem with the function keys though.
Everything works except the brightness controls both in stamina and speed mode.
I tried reinstalling numerous drivers but nothing seems to work.
Does anyone know the fix for this issue?
I have a Z790CJ model if that is any help
Alright so i have been trying to upgrade from home premium 64bit vista to W7 with my upgrade disc and i am out of idea. Every time i try to run the upgrade i get an error saying
"Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070017"
I just have a question regarding aftermarket upgrade of blue ray for Vaio Z series, did any one try upgrading with any aftermarket blue ray drive for Z series? If so what is the compatibility criteria and did anyone find one for Z series
I found a notebook blue ray rom for $79

but it is IDE interface I am not sure what interface is for Z series.
I have a 2.5 year old E1705 notebook. I'm going to upgrade to W7 soon and in the process I thought I'd upgrade my memory from 2GB to 4GB.
I ran Dell's utility from their tech support page and it seems to be the case that the maximum my computer will support is 2GB! Is that possible?
In any case, I ran a diagnostic program (from Dell's utility) and it says my computer has two memory slots, and currently each slot on my computer has "Dual In-line Memory Module 1GB, 533, 128X64, 8K, 200", whatever that means.
I assume the 533 is memory speed (Hz) value. So according to Dell's utility, I am unable to increase the amount of RAM, but I could, for instance, "upgrade" to better chips (i.e., Dell sells DDR2 SDRAM Memory Speed: 800 MHz). Price would be $56.
i currently have a TM 5720 with 2GB of ram. I was thinking of upgrading it to 3GB. I was wondering if you think it will make much of a difference and whether any of these would be suitable (already done a small bit of research)
i cant post any links but had seen a few on play.com
2gb pc 5300 200 pin
would it matter that there would be 2 different types of RAM in the laptop.
