Sony :: VAIO FW Series Recovery Disc

I just ordered the Sony Vaio FW series. The agent said the notebook don't come with any Windows Vista Home Premium x64 DVD's as back up and i need to burn the recovery disc from the OS once i receive the laptop.
1. Is this the standard practice of shipment.
2. If i am to create recovery disc from the laptop, and then at a later time format and do an install from the recovery back up disk's, does the recovery install the old factory shipped drivers & software by default. If so is there a way to get rid of this.
3. What do i do if i want to do a clean install of the OS with the new drivers from net.

I am getting a Vaio SR and I want to upgrade the harddrive to a 500 gb one i have already. Is there a way to transfer the recovery stuff from the harddrive that comes with the vaio to the new one i am swapping in?

I`ve just received my new notebook and I had already bought the SSD drive I would like to use with it.In the first moment I thought it would as easy as described hereURL.... but my notebook has the windows 8 and the OKR 8.0 and I can't find the option to create recovery discs.Â

I found out that I can make a recovery media, a pen drive with at least 16Gb, to recovery the system. I would like to make the same with DVDs. create the recovery discs or to reinstall the windows 8 from scratch with the same license key (not even sure if I have one) the one preinstalled in my notebook?

I recently got this laptop and wanted to upgrade to Windows 8.1 immediatly since it came with Windows 7. This was of course and option with the disc set that came with the laptop. Unfortunately i have encountered problems in the installation/recovery of Windows 8.1.Â

When the laptop is finished using the actual disc's (i say finished because it spits out disc 4 which is the last one) and is booting into the OS to do the last installing it "freezes" in the middle of "dowork.cmd". In the cmd window it tries to access a destination directory which it can't. Instead of writing it here, i'm just gonna link a picture of it:Â

I recently ordered a new Carbon X1 20A7 for a VP here and noticed that it, as well as all the other sets we receive for the T430's, W530, etc all contain 4 things - 3 discs and a small pamphlet. The Pamphlet explains that the discs should be labeled 1 2 3 and all (Ive checked an order of 100 T430s and the first 17 boxes are all wrong) contain 2 x #1 and a #2 - I have looked in the old lab and found older shipments that all contain similar 1 1 2 instead of 1 2 3 .Â

I was making a Windows 7 recovery disc set, usning the Lenovo Thinkvantage tools, and one of the first pop up windows that came up said "Note: DVD RAM is not supported for Disc 1 of the Product Recovery disc set". Does this meen that I cannot use a DVDs for a Recovery discs? That is all I have.

locating a recovery disc for my s360, as a few months ago the HDD stopped working (cant recover from the partition) and I cant seem to locate the recovery disc I made.
I tried installing windows 7 and looking for device drivers for the video & audio cards but was unable to find them.
Anyway, if anyone is aware of somewhere vista drivers or the XP recovery .iso would be downloadable that would be groovy.

Where Can I download or order a Boot Disc for my Z580? Â It came with Windows 7, and PC World were offering a free upgrade to Windows 8. Â
I am currently unable to create a Factory Default Recovery Disc. Â There is an error with the Onekey Recovery software in burning onto the DVD / Disc. Â I have tried two different DVDs (4.7GB), and have tried a CD (740MB). Â And I receive the same error about one fifth of the way through.
The reason I am having to do a factory reset, is because my Wirless Network driver is not working, and the laptop no longer accepts external wireless USB dongles. Â I can't get internet even with a wired connection. Â It isn't to do with whether the wireless is switched on or not. Â I've tried this.
What is Lenovos policy about providing customers with the means to restore their Laptops? Â In the past computer manufacturers / suppliers provided all the software and bootdiscs.

when I try to install the Windows 8 copy I got with my Lenovo S440 in a virtual box environment
the installation procedure hangs on the windows splash screen. I never saw a Windows 8 installation
procedure before, so I booted my laptop from the installation media to check if it is corrupted.
This works fine. A loading dot circle is displayed under the logo after a few seconds and than after quiet
a while the lenovo wizard is shown... so it has to be an issue with the virtual box.Â

Its a Vaio pcg-7g2L. He says it crashed and its dead. I know the dvd drive needs to be replaced because it was stuck closed for a LONG time.
Were can I purchase a replacement dvd drive? I cant find them anywhere online.
Also, is there anyway to get windows installed or downloaded? we have the service tag and Windows Xp sticker on the bottom. Can I reformat the HDD and in install Windows 7 Beta for now?

I have a vaio cs laptop. When i start Click to Disc software, an error comes up saying
"Cannot start Click to Disc because the related programs required to create a disc cannot be found.
VAIO Content Importer will start so that you may import media files from the device to the hard disk drive."
I am not able to figure out which programs are missing for disc creation.

I have an HP ENVY dv7 Notebook. When the computer was new I tried to make a recovery disc set. When finished I would check the discs ( DVD - R ) I would get a message saying the discs did not write correctly. Tried discs from three different packs, still the same. Called HP Support and they went through the procedure with me, still the same fail. I was told me not to worry if I ever had to have the discs because of a crash they would send them to me for free as they have a record. Now I will be using this computer mainly on the internet and think I should have the discs just in case. Called HP and was told no record, no free discs and it will cost a lot to make the discs. Is there any way to make discs or put the info on a hard drive? I do not know if the computer thinks I made a copy or not since the copies I thought I was making were defective. Â

When I got my Acer netbook I had no way of burning a recovery disc for it. I have an external drive now, but the eRecovery utility won't let me burn a recovery disc any more.

My recovery DVD disc got corrupted. I tried to recover the disc using Unstoppable copier but couldn't recover completely. Now I need to create this disc again. I searched the forum and I found solution here
I tried moving HPCD.sys but it would still give me the error that the disc has already been created.
if the program has been changed and you have to fiddle around with something else?

i am unable to burn my recovery discs from my hdx 16. i hav the one with t9550,m130gt,tv tunner.actually the prob is that when i create my recovery disc.the first[i] dvd burns completely and while verifying the ist disk the system says found error in the files in the ist dvd please insert another disc to create the 1st dvd again,but the 1st one is working flawlessly..i hav nearly wasted 10dvds..so please help me how to create the second dvd directly...or else if any one can help me by sharing their recovery disk by posting its dwnload link,

I've decided to sell my Compaq 6820s laptop and use the money to put towards buying a iPod Touch 64GB but I'm looking for a set of Recovery Disc ISO's to wipe the system clean before selling it on after backing up my data [for which I'll have to do it onto my other laptop by copying the data onto my other laptop then copy the data onto an external hard drive] as I can't access the recovery partition...

I'd like to upgrade my laptop's hard drive, but I did not pay for the backup discs at the time of purchase. As far as I know, the only way to get my OS onto the new HDD would be through a recovery disc.
I went to Start>Recovery Manager>Recovery Disc Creation and was greeted with the screen. After pressing next, I immediately receive the 'cancel' screen telling me "Cancellation in progress... Recovery disc creation will resume where you left off the next time you start the program", but it doesn't.
Is there another way to get my OS onto the new HDD?

My FJ1S vaio just crashed one day and now getting blue screen of death after Win XP splash screen on boot up. It is a generic 'Windows needs to shut down to protect your machine' bla bla bla.
Here is the real problem: when trying to use the recovery disks, or recovery utility it comes up with the error 'Cannot use this utility for your computer. Confirm the model type'. I have successfully used it many times before though. Wierd.
Checking the bios, it says Machine Name and Serial Number are 'RESERVED', which leads me to believe the BIOS is somehow corrupt - shouldn't these be populated? I am not sure as I have never checked before! I assume the recovery utility checks for these details as it is OEM installed software and when it cannot won't boot.
I contacted Sony support who gave me the only option of sending it in for £399! More than the 4 yr old machine is worth!
I think my best solution is to do a clean install of XP as I have the key and could potentially borrow a CD. I would rather have the use of the recovery tool though as it is very useful and has all the pre-installed Sony software, drivers, etc.!
I was thinking of trying to 'hack' the phoenix bios with an editor - maybe too risky?

I just last week bought an Hp G60-230US at Office Depot. Had them install Microsoft Office and clean up my computer. When I got home and tried to make a recovery disc, I keep getting a message that says "this computer does not have a drive capable of creating cd's or dvd's. Contact HP" I did this, and they tried to tell me it was the type of dvd I was trying to use (Maxell). I know Hp's can be touchy, but I don't think the type of disc would give me that type of error. Hp said they could send me a copy of the recovery discs. But my concern is with that message. Am I doing something wrong, or is my computer messed up? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I plan on calling Hp tonight, and possibly calling Office Depot to see if they did something bad to my computer when they "cleaned it up".

I have recently bought an HP envy m6-laptop, and I constantly get a warning message alerting the Recovery disc is full. I have a Windows 8 operating system on the computer, and I have tried to follow the guidelines. That solution was however for the Windows 7 and I got stuck halfways without solving the problem.

Since the newer models from HP comes with windows 8, a friend of mine wanted me to install windows 7 instaid. Said and done. Almost. When I was done and the OS was configuring it stated that the hardware is not compatible with this version of windows.Since I use my computer, I don't like the original windows you get from the branded computers, all the programs that are forced on to you are a pain. Therefor, as usual, I removed every single trace of the original. Including the recovery disc.

How in the world of the living am I suppose to fix her computer, that now serves as nothing else than a bookstand? Apparently you no longer get a product key on a sticker on the back of your computer anymore.
I was going to install w7 with a legit key, no piracy.
