My battery in my Vostro 1500 lasts 8min running full power now so it is mostly dead. I have been unemployed for 11 months now so funds to buy a new battery are very low.
I have soldering skills and I upgraded the CPU in this thing so this should not be a problem. I just have a few questions...
Does anyone have any tricks on cracking the weld on the case? Besides scrapping away at it with a knife for 3 hours.
How much would the replacement cells be (estimate)? Has anyone done one of these batteries know what is going to be inside of mine?
Ok, so i got a new 1537 as the upgrades in the 1555 didn't impressed me.
But I have some questions...
The T3400 has like 55 Celsius in Idle...is it normal? If so...is better to upgrade later to the T6400 or P8400?
Also i would like to buy a backlit keyboard and a bluetooth adapter. Is there any store where I can find both? I need shipping to Canada.
All 1537 have a LED backlit screen?
I'm from Canada and I'm very interested in the xp studio 13.
The specs seem really great, and It fits into my sub 1200ish budget.
I've heard that the "flat keyboard" needs some getting used to. How bad is it? I'm somewhat picky when it comes to keyboards. I've also heard about the dell 1340.
I've had my E6400 for about a week now, by far best laptop I've ever owned. Specs are P8400, 4GB RAM, WXGA+ led, integrated graphics, 160GB 7200rmp HDD, 9 cell, FP reader. However, there are a few problems that really bother me and I can't figure out.....
As a preface, things I have already done/tried: Updated BIOS to A11; Unistalled IDT audio driver and installed Vista High Definition Audio; Updated touchpad drivers; Installed Intel Matrix Storage Manager 8.7.0.1007;
disabled HDD indexing and Windows Search; installed SP1; uninstalled Dell ControlPoint Connection Manager, updated video drivers .....
Is the light always on or I can turn it off manually? Or it goes out automatically when out of use for a certain time?
And how is the color of the light? White or kinda blue?
Sorry for overload of questions recently. I ordered an XPS16 ( ) and I am waiting for it to get delivered.
1) Where do I go exactly to apply for the upgrade for windows7?
2) Do I apply AFTER the laptop is delivered or can I apply for it now?
3) After I filled out the respective application, Dell sends me the Software whenever windows7 comes out?
4) I see some posts in threads stating that users with xps16 are using Vista and/or Windows7 and/or XP. Windows7 is not even out yet... how are people doing that
A little about myself. I live in Fresno, Ca. I own my own local auto enthusiast message board, as well as manage a high-end car stereo shop.
My current machine: Dell Inspiron E1705
-Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2300E (1.66GHz/667MHz FSB)
-1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
-NVIDIA GeForce GO 7900 256mb Graphics Card
-17 inch UltraSharp™ Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife™
-Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy® ADVANCED HD Audio
-Intel® PRO 3945 and Dell 350 Bluetooth Internal Wireless Cards
Dell is in the process of 'System Exchanging' this machine. They are sending me a Studio 17. I have of course, like every other tech-nerd, watched and read every review I could find, but reviews never tell you what they like and dislike over time. I'm hoping I can get some honest opinions here .....
so I am going to use my EPP to buy a secondary Studio 17, 24" monitor and an Inspiron Mini 9. Out of curiosity, because I really do not know, is there a difference in build quality, materials, workmanship, etc...
for people that have an EPP with Dell and order systems and other devices by Dell? Do "Home" systems differ from EPP systems? Like do EPP systems use used parts or remanufactured parts for a new system? Just curious....
)the screen is nice but its quite reflective though im using it on the train right now and havent had an issue but taking outside in bright sun may be a problem (cant test that right now as its winter here in blighty).
The screen doesnt fold all the way back but currently that hasnt been an issue
the perfect viewing angle has the screen far back enough as to possibly cause annoyance if sitting on a plane/train but only if your really picky
keyboard is nice to use no flex to note and its a good size to type on
After some troubleshooting, it seems to be related to the Intel Wifi services, of which I have several listed under "Services" in msconfig.
My Wifi card is the Intel 5300 and if I only run the Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Service, start-up happens without lag.
If I add any of the other Intel Services (Wireless REgistry Service, Wireless SSO Service, Wireless Event Log), it can take several minutes of unresponsiveness before things finally work.
Do I need these other services? WiFi seems to work fine, as far as I can tell. I use the Intel Conncection Manager , not the Dell utility to connect.
Second question: I move my laptop frequently from the table to my lap and back, and the adapter plug comes lose fairly easily, even though the cord is not pulling on it.
Is this a common problem with the E6500?..
just looking for software/firmware (if i need any) to support the OEM dell blu-ray burner for the m1730 as i just ordered one from an online store...
just curious...i assume that vista will go to windows update to look for drivers when i install the new drive....not entirely sure. i looked on dell's web site and did not find blu-ray specific software for the m1730....
Will a 370 Bluetooth mini card work in my 1737?

Just got a 1340 from the outlet with the standard base specs that are already quite good.

It was a Scratch and Dent but excpet a few scuff marks on the leather it is almost new .....
i just got my M4400 and from a first contact, i am very happy with it. i have a question about the WiFi Catcher.
it seems it does not recognize the wifi card (5300) although i am able to connect to the internet over wireless. when i press the button, a window that says radio is off appears.
Also in Dell Control Point it seems like there is no wifi connection in the DCP connection manager and all wifi related options are disabled. i can only see and use the dial up and ethernet connection in this software.
I am about 75% sure this dell is the one. I am seriously considering the lenovo U330 (heavier-ugh but w/hdmi port) or a Thinkpad T400 (maybe 400s) because i am hard on my computers
The e4300 is my top choice because of it's weight, but I saw the Studio 14z and was a bit put off. I know consumer vs. business can be apples to oranges, but I it made me start to think...
with no restocking fee for items purchased from the outlet?
ah, here it is http://www.dell.com/content/topics/s...n&s=dfb&~ck=mn
it doesnt say anything about a restocking fee though...but i guess it does say that youll get the price of the system back. so...nm? sorry!

I have just a few questions left before I order a shiny new E6400. Any input would be much appreciated . My original "What should I buy?" post is here.
1. I'd like to get the 7200 RPM drive, but I've heard reports of a whirring/whining sound. Is that a widespread problem or is it limited to the original batch half a year ago?
2. Everyone seems to have a different preference for the WiFi card. Are there significant differences between the options? I plan to use this computer outside whenever possible, but I don't know how far apart the access points are.
Does upgrading or replacing the HDD, RAM, or CPU void the warranty? (I know that changing the motherboard does. Oops.)
I tried reading through the warranty terms and conditions but I couldn't find anything that was very clear on the subject
I have a new Dell Studio 1737.
When I close the top down and open it later,
usually the unlock screen appears and I can go back to doing whatever I was doing.
Sometimes there is only a blank screen and I can't do anything but unplug it and remove the battery so it'll start up again.
Should I be closing the top down or not?
And why doesn't it always start back up when I open it?
I am looking at upgrading the memory in my Vosto 1500. It currently has 667mhz memory in it (came with the laptop). My processor is a T7100, a 800mhz processor. If I get 800mhz memory, will it recognize it and run it at 800mhz?
Also, while I am here, has anyone upgraded to a SSD drive in place of the stock HDD? Will the bios accept it? Laptop was purchased in 2007, and I am on the original A01 bios
I received my 1640 yesterday. Big props to Dell, since I bought it on Friday around 3pm (outlet "previously ordered new") and Fed-Ex attempted to deliver it on Monday at 10am (picked it up at the distribution center at night).
I also received my 9-cell battery, but haven't had a chance to use it or review it, so this will focus on the 6-cell.
First - Boxing: Non-fancy tan cardboard box. The laptop was encased in foam and a foamy-sleeve.
No bags were included with this laptop. I got a slim AC adapter (probably about 1/3rd weight of the previous bricks), some cds, and the laptop. Nothing else. Should I have gotten a sleeve of some sort .....
I have a question about 4gb of memory on inspirons. I recently put in 4GB's memory in my inspiron (Corsair brand) and I am running XP(x86) aka 32bit. Windows sees 3.25gb's which is exactly correct.
Awhile back I read that the inspiron motherboard which is an intel, will not run the memory in Dual Channel mode, which will slow the memory down about 3-5%. However I am not sure of how true or not this is. I put the memory and checked my bios and its showing all 4GB's and "Dual Channel" enabled.
So the question is how real is this dual channel concern if the bios is saying its in dual channel mode? PS we are both running the latest bios A17.
Either I'm being really dense (possible) or the battery on my CW2 is jammed. I'veonly just got it so it's the first time i've tried to remove the battery.
It does come out the same way it went in doesn't it? I've unlocked the lock switch and whilst holding the 'release' switch im trying to lift the battery from the the recess next to the release and lock switch.
One side of the battery (on the release switch side) seems to lift slightly but the other side isn't coming out at all. It's almost as if lock is still in place.
When I done a clean instll of windows 7, when iboot up i get this error now. its a process called isbmgr.exe. how can i get rid of this?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI got my laptop around 3 years ago, it's a Sony Vaio VGN SZ1M/B.
The battery stopped working completely around 1 1/2 years ago, since then I just took it out and have been forced to use it at my desk.
I'm going on holiday in a few weeks and fancy getting a new battery so I can use the laptop on the trip.
I just called my local Sony Centre (UK), who said they could order a new one from Sony for £190!
I've had a look on the net, but all the online battery websites seem really dodgey, does anyone know where I can get a battery for a more reasonable price?
The battery that came with the laptop has a model number of VGP-BPS2C, but I'm not sure if there's a slightly newer, yet obsolete model out?
Is it ok to get a battery that's not made by Sony? and if so where. Or if not, where can I get a real Sony battery for a reasonable price?
I have purchased the FW 490 CTO about two weeks back, but the battery seems bo giving me some issues. Can somebeody please confirm if the problem that I am facing is an issue or it is quite normal.
I have configured my notebook for super battery care function in order to protect its life. So far it seems to be doing a good job that it keeps the battery charged for only 50%. But when I Shut down the notebook overnight and restart it in the morning the battery levels are down to 25%. I have no clue as to how 25% of the battery is getting depleted overnight even though I shutdown my laptop.
So I bought a Sony Vaio FW-340DW for school which is the lower end with the X-Brite Eco screen. However, I have noticed something about the battery.
When I'm on the Vaio Optimized battery plan, I get 2.5 hours of battery life. But, When I switch the battery plan to Maximum Battery I still get 2.5 hours
For those in the UK/Europe who ordered CTOs with the extended battery...
Did the extended battery come attached to the laptop in the box in place of the standard one, or is it sent separately, in addition to getting the standard one
where to find / buy one extra battery for my VAIO ?
And i prefer also large capacity if possible.
