Dell :: Buying A Vostro 3300, Memory And O
May 3, 2010
Im thinking on buying a Vostro 3300 from the Dell website.
Seems as a good lappy for editing text and watching some videos and movies.
How much ram can I add to it? Im planning on buying it with only 2GB and planning to upgrade it to its max. Which I don't know exactly what is.
Also it comes with Intel i3 350 M, any advice on this processor?
The default OS is Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit.
Considering the processor, should I upgrade the OS to 64 bit? Does that actually make a difference at all?

I know the Vostro 3300 just came out.
For those who own the V13. Do you miss having HDMI? How's the build quality on the V13? And with the Vostro 3300 out now, the Vostro 3300 would be a better buy, no?
Any differences that I should take note of?

My brandnew DELL Vostro 3300 has arrived, some days earlier than expected.
First impressions:
- Notebook is quite small, although somewhat bigger than I thought. (But that may come from the fact that I did much webbrowsing on a Motorola Milestone yesterday :-))
- Build quality seems okay. For the price in fact good.
- Notebook is very lightweight. I have to measure the exact weight, but it feels much lighter than a DELL Studio 15.
- Power supply unit is very small and lightweight. Seems to be the same as the Studio 15's.
- Display is bright, colours are bright, seems to be an exact (smaller) copy of the Vostro 3700 with the same very limited viewing angle (not much of a problem to me when you do mostly office work and software engineering with dark letters on bright background, but could be a problem if you want to play games with mostly dark background).
- Keyboard is backlit, surprisingly good.
- Display and keyboard have relatively much flex.
- Battery is 4 cell, seems to last approximately 2:30 (with maximum brightness, WLAN on and light office work)
- It's very fast.
- It doesn't emit much heat, feels quite cool.
- It's relatively silent, so far.

Does anyone one here have one and can comment on its quality/performance?
I'm looking at the i5/310M, I'd prefer the i3/310M but that doesn't seem to be an option.
I'm hoping for 4hrs of battery, is that being to hopeful?

SO Ive decided on a compromise till then to tie me over. Luckily it will be purchased as a company expense
So I have to make a decision between these two laptop today as sony offer on free blu-ray ends today
I am aware that getting parts to fix sony's are a lot more harder than dell. I am also aware that the lead time for delivery on sony sytems is also a lot longer
So Here are the specs. The Vaio has options for downgrades that could bring the price down even further
Sony Vaio VPCEA1X5E
windows 7Home
Intel i5 430M(2.26GHz) (subtract £50 if going with Intel i3 330M(2.13GHz))
14"
320Gb HDD
4GB 1066 RAM
Blu-ray drive (read Blu-ray, write DVD)
BlueTooth + Wireless
ATI 4570 (512MB) card
hdmi port
16900x900 0.3mp Webcam LED display (subtract £20 if going with 1366x768)
£659 .....

I have a Dell Vostro 3300. Windows 7 OS. Hard drive went out. Replaced hard drive. Reinstalled Windows 7. Used backup system disk that I made with Recovery Manager back in December 2012. It looked like it was working properly, but after using all backup disks, got message image could not be applied. Started over, reinstalled Windows 7. Put in #1 backup system disk. When drop down box is displayed asking which backup to use, I choose 12-29-2012 like I did before. Nothing happens. It just sits there. Next button can not be used (it is greyed out).

I am intending to buy a Vostro 1320, I will use it for text editing, Internet surfing, occassional photoediting, so I don't have high hardware demands only that computer works smoothly.
There are some things which I dont understand:
1) they offer processors with fsb 800 Mhz and fsb 1066 Mhz, but the RAM memory works on 800 Mhz
I am prepared to pay for little bit better processor but do I have advantage of better CPU when I have slower Ram ?
2) they have also half-height and full-height wireless card,
is it some particular advantage with half-height ?
3) is it worth to buy 256 MB Nvidia instead of onboard Intel X4500MHD graphics card, and as I said my demands on graphics are not so high ?

I'm trying to configure a laptop which has 14" 1440x900 display. Would like to get as much discounts as possible. How much is the employee discount? Is it stackable with the coupon codes found on the internet?
Also why isn't the Vostro 14" or inspiron 14" available anymore?
How is the screen on the Inspiron 13" ? I'm keen to buy the 13" but I think it'll be kinda small.
What is Dell's return policy? Just incase I dont like the laptop.

A friend just showed me his new Dell Vostro lappy. He has 4 GB of DDR2 800mhz memory on it when compared to my 4 GB of DDR2 667mhz memory on my XPS 1530
However, under his windows experience score - he gets 5.9 score for memory operations while I just get a 5.1. I can't believe that a couple of hundred mhz can result in such a drastic difference.
Is there something optimized for his system but not for mine?

I was trying to configure a very powerful system (Precision) but didn't want the crappy widescreen monitor, need ultrasharp as it's for graphics work, but there is no option to deselect or select ultrasharp.
Another annoyance was that for some reason it wouldn't let me select a second drive - no incompatibilty message, nothing.

I'm thinking of buying the SXPS 16 from Dell Hong Kong as my bro lives there and he should be able to bring it down within the next two months. Unfortunately the only screen available is:
16.0" Edge to Edge High Definition (720p) LED Display with TrueLife(TM)
Does anyone know the exact resolution of this. I've heard amazing things about the screen but I think this is has less resolution and not RGB?
Is it still worth getting? Will be used primarily for graphics editing, light gaming and Word/Excel.
Thanks for any input.

I'm interested in buying a good portable notebook and the E4300 is one of the main contenders because of the solid build, good batterly life and its weight and size
So I've been reading many mixed reviews about the latitude e4300 where many people thought it didn't live up to what you would expect from a premium business notebook with a premium price.

So I have been looking into something bigger than a 17' (yes i know im getting greedy as far as size) However Im not sure of the quality, performance and other things and was wondering if you guys could fill in the gaps.
Will be used for
-Light gaming, but i definately want a low 'response time'
-Watching movies
-Browsing internet
My main questions are.
-what is a good 'response time'?
Ive seen 2ms, 5ms as the lowest times and im guessing these times are more than reasonable for playin a few games.
-Will a 7900GS be strong enough to handle displaying a resolution of say 1600x1200 or 1920x1200 and play a game or two w/o any issues?

I've been watching for a long time the XPS M1530 line and now I'm almost 99.99% decided finaly get mine. ( the laptop will be purchased in Romania ).
However, I have some small questions if anyone can help me.
First, the model I choose is http://www.emag.ro/notebook_laptop/n...NBKDLLIXPS0054
If anyone looks at the price, it's about $1364.
The use is for programming, some web design, and a little gaming (world of warcraft mostly).
1. Can hardware acceleration be used on the secondary monitor? Meaning that if I attach a second screen, can I have 3d full screen acceleration on it instead on the primary laptop display .....

im going to get the best processor they offer (T9300), 4gb shared memory.
i need ur advice if i should get 200gb 7200 rpm or stay with the 320gb 5400?

do you know if i have hdmi out on the computer ?

So I see lots of refurb'd Studio XPS 16s on ebay at very competitive prices (like a couple of hundred $ off dell.com).
The ones I am looking at includ warranty transferred to buyer - seller has 100% (or near) feedback.

Should I place the order for SXPS16 online or through a Dell agent ?
I had a chat with a agent today and asked, If he can give some discount on my online config ? He was ready to give discount of $50 on $1250 config and $75 on $1394 config ! Is it worth (means should I bargain more with him :-) ) and safe to place the order through the agent ?
Unfortunately till now there is no substantial discount offered from Dell for black Friday or holiday season

Some guy is selling an E6400 for $750 with 3 year warranty left. It's $300 cheaper than a simliar configuration brand new.
What things should I check for? this will be my first laptop. Of course i'll check to make sure all the parts work, test everything out.
anyway to test if there are overheating issues? build quality issues? can i see if the seller exchanged any parts?
He says he has a service # that i can check with Dell, not sure what this is though.
