This on Vista, havent tried updating the bios or sound drivers yet.

Sep 26, 2009I was wondering if anybody would be able to help me with a little volume problem i'm having.
I recently installed Windows 7 RTM. Everything was working fine including the volume control. Then one day i booted the laptop and was unable to control the volume using the volume dial on the front of the laptop.
Some information:
>The volume dial hardware is working fine because when i boot into Vista there are still no problems
>When i turn the dial, the volume does not change either up or down
what drivers control the volume dial or as to what software may be required to make it work again?

Jul 28, 2009When at home I use my laptop (Vista Home Premium) connected to external Labtec speakers and an Acer port replicator, which in turn is connected to an LCD monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Normally all is well.
I quite often use my laptop during my travels and sometimes when I return home (and it is only sometimes) I get no sound from the speakers in the laptop or from the external speakers. The muting is right across the board, internet, music, DVDs etc.
I have checked everywhere I can think, such a laptop sound control, screen icons and Control panel, and everything seems to be set for sound.
I can get round this by re-installing the sound drivers but this is a bit of an overkill.
For a start where should I check to ensure that the sound is not muted and what is the likely cause of the muting?

Mar 31, 2010I remember on vista I was playing dirt 2 for a while, and the main menu music sounded incredible. Awesome deep loud sound.
Now on win 7, It seems do dull and lifeless and low. I have the latest realtek HD drivers for the 5920g. Everything is on max. Played around with the settings.
The speakers are capable of so much more, need more power delivered to them, NOT just a higher equaliser setting. Its so annoying having the volume on 100% and not being able to hear much.
Does anyone know of a way or modified drivers that boost the sound up? Such a shame, you should be able to use the speakers to capacity. I.e the point at which they start to distort is where you stop. I need at least 200% volume to achieve this.
Also what 64 bit druvers from realtek offer the best quality sound? Has anyone exprimented with this? I id notice a difference between versions in the past on vista.

Jul 23, 2009The power light above the machine indicates that it is off, no sound etc. the ac adapter still runs on another machine. machine has 3 years static use.
is it an obvious mainboard failure?
can i safely buy a new mainboard?
Is it worth fixing seeing as the GFX is Nvidia 8600m and may fail anytime (although it never plays 3d games so surely should last 3 times longer than a heated one???).
should i sell the ram, graphics, processor, and laptop for spares and buy a different one to be cost effective?
What steps should i take to figure it out, fix it, else to find my sister an new one?

Sep 18, 2014How can I increase volume without the UP arrow key? Normally do Fn-Up. Volume is only issue (can page up then down to scroll). Control panel options look like they increase volume, but they don't. Windows troubleshooting deals only with the sound card, which is fine. (Old laptop, so I don't want to replace the key).

Jan 20, 2010Just got my vpccw26fw from best buy, love everything on it except the sound volume. The 100% sound volume on the CW is not even louder than the 50% on my Z.
Is this a driver issue or the hardware is built like that?

Apple :: Start-up Sound - Loud As That Volume Level
Mar 7, 2009I usually turn my volume really low or even mute it before shutting down my mbp, and when I turn on my mbp, the startup chime will be as loud as that volume level.
Yesterday, I used onyx to clean up some of the preferences,etc. Now, it doesn't matter if I mute the volume before shutting down, the start-up chime will always be there at the same level.
I rather not download the startup sound preference program if i really dont have to.

Apr 6, 2009In short: My e1705 with a quadro 2500m is idling at temperatures at least 10 degrees celsius higher than it was before: 70 degrees with slow fans compared to ~60 with slow fans (I had fans kick in at 65 to bring it back to 60). There have been no hardware/software changes to the system.
So I read the guides about applying AS5 to your GPU and I thought I'd try to get better temps.
I cleaned off all the old compound from both the GPU and the heat spreader, and placed about a pea-sized piece on the GPU (see attachment). It wasn't the most perfect blob of AS5, but volume-wise I think it was pretty close, and ideally it would be smoothed out when I tightened the screws on the heat spreader.
I stuck to a "less is more approach" having heard that all I needed to do was fill the minor imperfections of the contact surfaces.

Feb 3, 2009My case manager messed up the order on my SECOND 'replacement' notebook. She promised me upgrades across the board and messed up the order again, and forgot the screen res., fingerprint reader, extra battery, etc. So, now HP calls me and tells me that she was promoted and gave me a new case manager, Elric, who tells me there is nothing he can do and I can take it or leave it. Apparently he is one of 3 "executive" case managers and he says he is the top of the food chain.
Is there anyone else I can call to rectify this situation? Does anyone have a corporate # or something?
This has been a 6 week ordeal for me. Originally, I ordered a POS spec'd dv5t, but it came with a blown out speaker. So after hours with customer service, they gave me a case manager, Angelia, who promised me the world with upgrades and free accessories. Well, the replacement notebook she sent contained none of these upgrades. So i called her back and she said she would order a new replacement, but at that point they stopped customizing dv5t's, so she said she would order a dv7t for me. Well, she FINALLY got around to it, like 3 weeks later after having to call her constantly. We discussed the specs and I even sent her a screenshot of what I wanted so she wouldnt mess it up again. So what happens? She orders it with WXGA+ instead of WSXGA, no extra battery, no fingerprint reader, no hard drive upgrade, no tv tuner.. but she throws in a blu ray drive which i didnt even want! wow, seems like she wasnt even paying attention AGAIN. But now I cant even speak with her, as I'm sure she would some rectify this for me, as she was very cool. But this Elric guy is a complete bag.

Acer :: 5920G LCD Won't Come On After A While
Feb 7, 2008My 5920G which I got for Christmas is giving me some problems.
I have gone to power options and and changed the settings so when I close the lid, nothing must happen. But when I come back in about 20 minutes after leaving the lid closed, there is no way of me getting the LCD to start up. The only way I can get past this is by pressing the power button in for a few seconds forcing it to shut down. Obviously this is bad for my notebook. How do I get this sorted out? The same thing happens if I leave the lid open and come back in a while.

Jun 14, 2008I have an Acer 5672. It has the media keys on the left side of the keyboard where i can control the volume, stop, pause etc. I reformatted my machine and reinstalled XP Pro. When i use the media keys there is no display on the screen of what i am doing. What i mean is before if i turned the volume up or down it would display on the screen and you would see like a volume bar moving up or down. How do i get that back?

im even more suprised to see that there are thermal pads all over my gpu and cpu
heres a rough picture of how it looks like
silver color denotes where thermal pads where installed
the weird thing is that the copper plate of the heat sink only touches the parts of the picture with the orange circle
should i put AC MX-2 on the areas where i found thermal pads or just on the areas where the copper plates of the heat sink touches the core
