Oct 8, 2008Anybody experienced sound problems when the volume is higher than 50%?
This on Vista, havent tried updating the bios or sound drivers yet.

Oct 2, 2008I did this because I want to play Blu-Ray films AND have a decent selection of 16:9 resolutions - The Nvidia ones (with the modded inf) cause Acer Arcade not to play (gives an error about incorrect driver installed) and the official Acer ones only give you 2 actual 16:9 resolutions. Bear in mind this is mainly for my gaming as not everything will run at 1920x1080 but I don't want to go as low as 1366x768 but it's fixed a wierd problem with my TV where the HDMI 720p output was bigger than the TV screen (which is 720p but doesnt have any over/underscan ability?).
****This should be regarded as a "hack" to the drivers and as such I take no responsibilty for anything that happens if you try this - I am providing the details in case others have the problems above........

On Screen Display problem: when I press volume up/down Button the volume decreases completely. To make louder or dim the volume I have to hold the buttons. All the other hotkeys functions work . why? what I have to do?

Apr 6, 2009In short: My e1705 with a quadro 2500m is idling at temperatures at least 10 degrees celsius higher than it was before: 70 degrees with slow fans compared to ~60 with slow fans (I had fans kick in at 65 to bring it back to 60). There have been no hardware/software changes to the system.
So I read the guides about applying AS5 to your GPU and I thought I'd try to get better temps.
I cleaned off all the old compound from both the GPU and the heat spreader, and placed about a pea-sized piece on the GPU (see attachment). It wasn't the most perfect blob of AS5, but volume-wise I think it was pretty close, and ideally it would be smoothed out when I tightened the screws on the heat spreader.
I stuck to a "less is more approach" having heard that all I needed to do was fill the minor imperfections of the contact surfaces.

HP/Compaq :: Who's Higher Than A CASE MANAGER
Feb 3, 2009My case manager messed up the order on my SECOND 'replacement' notebook. She promised me upgrades across the board and messed up the order again, and forgot the screen res., fingerprint reader, extra battery, etc. So, now HP calls me and tells me that she was promoted and gave me a new case manager, Elric, who tells me there is nothing he can do and I can take it or leave it. Apparently he is one of 3 "executive" case managers and he says he is the top of the food chain.
Is there anyone else I can call to rectify this situation? Does anyone have a corporate # or something?
This has been a 6 week ordeal for me. Originally, I ordered a POS spec'd dv5t, but it came with a blown out speaker. So after hours with customer service, they gave me a case manager, Angelia, who promised me the world with upgrades and free accessories. Well, the replacement notebook she sent contained none of these upgrades. So i called her back and she said she would order a new replacement, but at that point they stopped customizing dv5t's, so she said she would order a dv7t for me. Well, she FINALLY got around to it, like 3 weeks later after having to call her constantly. We discussed the specs and I even sent her a screenshot of what I wanted so she wouldnt mess it up again. So what happens? She orders it with WXGA+ instead of WSXGA, no extra battery, no fingerprint reader, no hard drive upgrade, no tv tuner.. but she throws in a blu ray drive which i didnt even want! wow, seems like she wasnt even paying attention AGAIN. But now I cant even speak with her, as I'm sure she would some rectify this for me, as she was very cool. But this Elric guy is a complete bag.

Aug 5, 2014I just received a refurbished HP ENVY TouchSmart m6-k125dx Sleekbook. I can't set a resolution higher than 1366 x 768 though according to specs the native resolution is 1920 x 1080. I updated the Intel HD graphic driver and the BIOS but that did not work. Did HP possibly reinstall a wrong display as part of the refurbish?

Dec 24, 2009my laptop's lcd screen died 1 month after guarantee expiry. Since original LCD replacement screens are crazy expensive, I bought physically compatible lcd screen, that supports same resolution.
But I cannot get any higher resolution as 1024x768 (I've used 1400x1050 on original). I suspect there is a problem with drivers - my screen is recognized as plug and play monitor, but settings won't offer me any higher screen resolution.

Dell :: Miss The Volume Meter Bar
Oct 15, 2008One thing I miss going from a Inspiron 6000 to a M1530 is the onscreen volume meter bar when you press the louder and softer volume buttons on the Media Bar. On my Inspiron 6000, a gui bar pops up when you adjust the volume using the media bar buttons to let you know exactly where your volume is set at. I don't even know when to stop pressing the volume up button because I don't know when the volume is maxed out on my M1530. Anybody know of a way to make the onscreen volume meter return?

Previously (that is, before I recently reinstalled Windows) my computer used to have some sort of "memory" for volume settings.
I normally set the volume to around 20 when using headphones and set it to around 100 without headphones.
My computer had a "memory" for this in the sense that whenever I plugged in headphones the volume would automatically set to 20 and when I unplugged them, it would go back up to 100. However, this no longer happens and I don't know why
Dell :: Volume, Network, And Battery Icons
Jul 13, 2009Well when I started up my system all these icons were gone from the system tray. I went to properties and tried to click "show the icons all the time" but those three were grayed out.
I restarted the system and the battery showed back up but the other two didnt. So, I restarted again, and now all three are gone again. I'm guessing the only option will be reinstall OS?

Dec 7, 2009I've put together a two-SSD configuration on Dell's configurator (2x 128GB).
I've checked the online manuals and haven't been able determine if the Z can configure the two internal drives in a RAID0 set.
Anybody do this? If it's not available from the BIOS, anyone try a striped config?
Dell :: XPS M170 CPU Lower Volume Whine
Jan 6, 2008I have a 2ghz P-M, 2GB RAM, 7800GTX equipped XPS M170 and never really took attention to this. It has CPU whine, and when you scroll webpages, it slows the scrolling process and emits the higher pitched intermittent whine until you stop, then it resumes a lower volume whine.
It's not really noticable unless in a quiet situation, but it's very annoying to me in such situations, especially because it limits the scrolling speed of pages and things in programs.
I've reformatted several times and i'm pretty sure its either the CPU or GPU whining. Gaming eprformance is unaffected.
Can I call Dell and have them do anyhting about this? I don't have Bluetooth, as some other topics have said works, but I don't think I should have to buy a module to have my CPU stop whining.
Dell :: Quickset: Change Volume Dialogue Position
Nov 9, 2008I couldn't find any info on this and seem to have figured this out. On the Dell I got (Studio 1735 / Windows Vista Home Premium), the volume dialogue (the volume slider that appears when you press the up/down volume media touch buttons) showed up in some strange place in the upper left corner. I wanted it in the lower right corner.
So, follow the following steps:
1. Find the Quickset Icon in the icon tray. Right-click it and "Exit".
2. Fire up regedit (Start > Run > regedit).
3. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREDell Computer CorporationQuickSet.
4. Backing up is strongly recommended as when performing any operations with the registry. At least back up the part you are changing. To backup, just rightclick the Quickset node and do "Export" to a file.
5. Find VolumeDlgX and VolumeDlgY keys. These hold the x&y position of the volume dialogue. Change them to whatever you want (note that by default the values are in HEX, but you can change them to decimal when setting them). I used the position of BrightnessDlgX/BrightnessDlgY (the Brightness dialogue which did appear where I wanted it) as reference).
6. Reboot the computer.
Note that if you start Quickset without rebooting, it appears to overwrite the registry values with the ones that were there before the change.

i have problem with laptop sound....
if speaker level is 0-60 proc all is fine, but if speaker level is 70-100 proc, then hard disk begin work at max... sound and programs crash... then i put mute or slow down speaker level and hard disk again working calmly, not a max performance...
i not understand why hard disk working at max performance when speaker level more thant 70 proc...
it is really strange.
i tryed to instal another audio driver, not helped...
maybe to strong magnetic field from speeker? if speeker to strong?
