Jul 25, 2009I inspired my girlfriend to buy an Apple Macbook Pro, but I have a few questions for you.
We are speaking about the new releases, which are now at the apple.com website.
I read a lot about Mac and Win support, ways and so on, but you are users, and maybe someone is tried a lot...so :
The important questions are:
Is there real Windows XP/Vista/7 support for the new Macs 13.3" or 15.4", for example: Is it possible to run Win 7 through BootCamp without problems, and is everything working good - Wifi, Lan, sound, touchpad, bluetooth, camera, etc.
Also what about the Applications: I'm interested in (windows versions) Photoshop, MS Office, MS Visual Studio(or some other packages for programming in C/C++ also on PHP and etc.)
What about playing movies in HiDef but in Windows, also Games?
Are there good video/audio drivers, codec packs, everything?
Explain as much as you can.
Also she's going to use OS X, but I'm not familiar with the programming software in OS X. She's going to do Web design, Photoshop editing, Video Editing, Programming, PHP, C++, other also.

May 26, 2009I have the 15" Macbook Pro 2.66 with the 512mb graphics and I was wondering if there are programs out there that I can adjust the battery options more? All I can really do is go from Performance to Better Battery Life (I assume it disables the graphics?). also any must have apps would be great for my new macbook pro. (I have xupport already)

We just did a clean install of Leopard and authorized the computer and all that, you know sign in the account in iTunes and all...
Anyways, my Dad has this list of purchased apps in his "purchase history". However, when clicking "Check for available downloads" iTunes reports that all the apps have been downloaded.
And no, my dad doesn't have them on his iPhone anymore because it's a jailbroken one and I had to wipe out everything and make it new again.
How do I re-download all his apps (that he bought) from iTunes? and by the way, there's no "Applications" in his sidebar in iTunes, because he has none on his HDD.

Nov 9, 2009When I click "download all free updates" it says that they cant not be purchased because i do not have write access to the iTunes media folder. I do because I checked out all the folders and they say read and write, plus I can add music to the library from other sources than iTunes store without a problem.

Sep 21, 2009Seems there's some sort of odd issue with only some apps running under SL where they don't retain any sort of settings as far as where the window was.
Preview, for example, always opens in the same not-actually-"maximized" position no matter what I do to it. I open a lot of PDF files, so I'd like to be able to specify how they open. (A plus would also be to auto-select the annotate -> comment function).

Oct 2, 2008I did this because I want to play Blu-Ray films AND have a decent selection of 16:9 resolutions - The Nvidia ones (with the modded inf) cause Acer Arcade not to play (gives an error about incorrect driver installed) and the official Acer ones only give you 2 actual 16:9 resolutions. Bear in mind this is mainly for my gaming as not everything will run at 1920x1080 but I don't want to go as low as 1366x768 but it's fixed a wierd problem with my TV where the HDMI 720p output was bigger than the TV screen (which is 720p but doesnt have any over/underscan ability?).
****This should be regarded as a "hack" to the drivers and as such I take no responsibilty for anything that happens if you try this - I am providing the details in case others have the problems above........

Sony :: New Vaio Ns Owner- Apps
Mar 8, 2010I just got a vaio ns with a pentium dual core t3200 @ 2ghz. I just did a fresh install of windows 7 so theres no SONY apps in there. I'm having trouble with notebook hardware control. It doesn't detect the voltage, it's basically showing ... and so I can't undervolt it and I really want to. Also when I installed NHC, it seems to take over the original settings somehow and always dims the screen to 0% when I start up the PC.
I'd also like to know if vaio's have a way to enter the bios during boot?
What are some recommended apps/drivers for me to download for this laptop? It comes with a gma4500mhd. Do I have to download drivers or does it pretty much come or auto download with the windows 7 updates?

Jan 10, 2015I own a Dell Inspiron 3521, and I'd been having an issue with apps not opening and closing when I do try. I went to fix this error. That's when I made a grave mistake. Somewhere along the line of me trying to fix it, I messed with something I shouldn't have and when I finished with my task, I was told to restart the computer to activate the settings. After I turned it back on it seemed normal up to the point after I saw the dell logo. It went black. At first I made the assumption that since I changed settings that it was still trying to configure them. But soon after, I saw my mouse and a little signal flash in the bottom left of my screen. So I checked around and found out that I needed to reinstall windows with disc or USB. But I don't have access to either of those.

Nov 28, 2014I just got my Aspire V touch, so I don't understand why the Acer applications keep crashing when I try to open them. All of my other apps open fine without crashing. (Acer apps i.e.: Acer Recovery, Acer Quick Access, etc.) Why only Acer apps are crashing? I'm trying to make my recovery files.
Also, what is AOP Framework? It always crashes when my laptop is waken up from it's sleep. Can I uninstall it?

Aug 28, 2009Is there some way around this? I ended one of the process one time, I VolCtrl.exe * 32, and it made the onscreen display go away, but then I could no longer adjust the brightness (probably because the onscreen display is identical for both except for a light icon insteam of a volume icon)
With that process not running volume control still worked fine, but screen brightness changing went away, a price I can't afford to pay for that.

Dec 15, 2012I upgraded to WIndows 8.1 a few hours ago (available in Store). However, ever since the upgrade I can no longer watch videos or hear sound in all Apps.
Netflix gives me a message that there is a problem with this system's configuration that prevents Windows from playing protected video and error code W8156-8007007E.
Xbox Music player gives me "Can't play. Make sure your computer's sound and video cards are working and have the latest drivers" error code 0x00d11d1 (0x8007007e).
All the other Apps that have video, and or audio, give various errors messages (e.g., "The video failed to play".
Now I can watch imbedded You Tube videos in Internet Exployer.
I did find KB2756872 that seems to address the problem with protected videos not playing. However, it doesn't mention if it is compatible with Windows 8.1 and when I follow the manual update method where you make changes in Regedit. I did not see the key that needs to be deleted.
Dell Latitude E5440 :: CPU Spikes Every 9 Seconds (no Apps Open Or Network Traffic)
Jan 4, 2015Having done a lot of monitoring of my Latitude E5440 because of fan issues I spotted large CPU spikes every 9 seconds (no apps open or network traffic):
I can see it's caused by a group of "DcomLaunch" services. My old laptop with same OS, software, Anti-Virus (Avast) does not show these spikes.
Looking at similar problems reported on the net it was down to a third-party service/driver or malware but I have done a full scan and it still occurs in Safe Mode:
I have also gone through disabling as many services and drivers as possible but no luck. Seems like it must be something to do with power management?
I'm not a gamer as a 25% CPU spike every 9 seconds would be totally unacceptable.

I remember reading that it said it may do this, may have a blank screen and not to turn it off. I left it on all night and still have just a green screen this morning. I know my wifi is not the fastest and figured that's what it was. Came to work today and left it sitting on the counter, still on.

Apple :: Using FAT 32 With Mac OS X
Nov 28, 2009Conventional wisdom holds that one of FAT 32's classical limitations is a 4 Gigabyte files size limit. I've done a few searches on the net, and I find this rule repeated ad-infinitem, without contradiction.
I recently purchased a 320 GB Iomega Prestige external drive that I plan to use interchangeably with my Mac and PC systems. To do this, I re-formatted the disk to a single 320 GB partition with FAT 32 file system (The drive comes formatted NTFS).
Yeah, I know there are work-arounds that would permit me to format it NTFS, and use it read-write on my Mac, and there are probably a few solutions that would permit me to format it Mac OS Extended, and use it my PC. I prefer not to use any "workarounds".
Here's my question.... I had occasion to copy a few files to the drive from my MacBook to the drive, namely my Virtual Machine files, that I don't want to use Time Machine for. I had no problem doing so. The two files exceed 4 Gigabytes handily, with one of them being over 30 Gigabytes! Oops, this can't be done, right?
I ask, how is this possible? I thought I had a 4 Gigabyte limit with FAT 32. Does the fact that I formatted the drive with my Mac give me some sort of advantage that Microsoft's formatting using the same file system does not?
I have read that the reason the FAT 32 files sytem can't store files over 4 Gigabytes, is the insufficient lack of storage within the allocation table for the requisite number of pointers required for a file over 4 Gig in size.
