View 5 RepliesI was looking for a cheap 14" notebook and came across Aspire 4736.

Surprisingly I couldn't find any info in the forum. and also couldn't find any reviews
If anyone have one of these then it will be great if you can post a brief
overview /review .
Also what about the general build quality of Acer .I need it to last atleast 2-3 years under normal college/home use.
I've just bought acer aspire 4736
The information about graphic is :Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD up to 789, 128 MB
But when I check in BIOS, it's only 64 MB. I don't know where and how to upgrade to 789MB
I am intending to buy acer aspire 5738G next friday. But I cannot find any valuable reviews on the net . I am concerned about it build and durability. the specs are fine. can any one tell me is it strongly built and durable or not. I hear a lot about the acer screen damage and other stuff.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI bought an acer aspire 5738G a couple of days ago with windows 7 x64 installed ,catalyst 9.9. When playing any game or using any 3D demanding application both my GPU temp. jumps up to 85-95 degrees C, and the CPU to 75-85 degrees C. according to GPU-Z my fan speed is always at 30% no matter how hot the lappy gets. I also wanna mention I didn't OC or use any modded stuff yet.
My questions are:
-Are these normal temps since this is my first acer and my previous lappy which wasn't an acer with a Nvidia Geforce GO7900 never got past the 75 degrees barrier
- Is there something wrong with the fan or it is supposed to kick in only at critical heat point
When I power on, after about 5-6 minutes the fan (I assume the CPU fan) kicks in. However, it then seems to remain on constantly until the laptop is turned off, even if I'm only idling. This is slightly annoying, not just because of the noise, but also it seems to have quite a noticeable effect on the battery life.
I have installed SpeedFan to keep track of the CPU temp and it seems that the fan kicks in initally when the core temps reach about 35 C, but then the fan does not switch off, even when temps drop back down to 25/26 C, which seems very cool.
On every other laptop I have used (none of which were Acers), the CPU fan only comes on now and again, as and when it is needed.
So, is this normal behaviour or is there possibly a fault with the fan control mechanism ? If so I will consider taking back to the retailer for an exchange.
my laptop overheating problems ever since I bought it, I almost tried everything ..... but alas nothing worked the final straw im hanging on is to downgrade my bios to the utterly old version 1.13 which is the last known stable & heat friendly version which is not on Acer website anymore .... So I was wondering if anyone has the windows 7 x64 executable bios 1.13 for aspire 5738G on their laptop
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently bought the laptop in my sig. I could have paid an extra Ł100 for a Blu-Ray drive and 500GB HDD, but I chose not to. I don't necessarily regret this, but I'll probably want to upgrade to a Blu-Ray drive at some point.
Does anyone know what Blu-Ray drive comes with this laptop? Or if any other Blu-Ray drives work? I'm not interested in recording, just standard playback.
I have bought the Aspire 5738G over half a year ago and it was just a couple of days back from now, when Everest showed me a hardware report about an integrated Intel 4500MHD onboard, which is inactive.
I couldn't find any info on this matter online, so I thought that with your help and my readiness to disassemble my laptop, we could figure out a way to make use of this integrated chip, which would result in serious power savings when running on battery.
I am thinking that maybe there is some place in the circuitry that was cut in order to disable the chip or something, or that it has no access to the LCD and HDMI ports.
Also, I downloaded a Service Manual for my model and I couldn't find my 5738G specification in it.
just bought a computer: Acer Aspire 5739G wireless card: intel wifi link 5100 -all drivers up to date
when i started to connect my wireless network 9 feet away(it has full connection) it said could't connect to network. Then i desided to try right beside the router and it worked. then when i walked from the router(5 feet) the connection sais limited connection. 8 feet no connection the same happened when i tryed to do it at my friend.
my Aspire 5739G will not run games.
I updated it to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit using the disk Acer sent me about a month ago, but never checked to see if any games work until today. Stupid, I know. I put in the CD, the game starts to load up and then it goes to a black screen. It always did this when I had Vista too, but it usually came back on and the game was loaded up. Its stuck there then and I'm forced to hold down the power button and restart the computer.
I updated the driver for the Nvidia GeForce GT 130M to its latest (mainly because I have no clue what to do and thought to myself "yeah, that sounds like something that might be wrong with it"), but no change.
I've recently purchased the Aspire 5739G off Newegg and would like to install XP on the machine. Fortunately, there are official XP drivers for this model on the Acer support website. I've downgraded before and know the procedure of slipstreaming the SATA drivers. Which drivers do I slipstream for this model? I noticed on the drivers page there is a SATA AHCI Driver. Is this the driver to slipstream?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI just recently bought a Acer Aspire 5739G and installed Windows 7 64 bit. All the bells and whistles are working except the fingerprint reader and the bluetooth.
I've tried a multitude of drivers from the manufacturers website and the acer driver website but to no avail.
Any attempt to install the bluetooth drivers asks for the device to be plugged in or turned on and pressing the BT button only displays the "bluetooth disabled" image on the screen. I can't see any bluetooth device installed in the device manager but there are a bunch of HID-compliant devices under the Human Interface Devices tab.
Installed the Windows 7 x64 Acer Bio Protection all goes fine until the System Wizard where it tells me that it can't detect the fingerprint scanner even tho I can see it installed in the device manager. It's installed as "TouchStrip Fingerprint Sensor" under Biometrics.
is there any way to control the fan speed of this lap top?
I have tried speedfan, rivatuner, even tried the undervolting option with RMClock (no success - the CPU was running at the lowest voltage already).
One option did present some signs of activity - Acer Asprie One (!) Fan Control utility. However, it only switched off the fan completely. Besides that, it was quite unstable and sometimes forgot to turn the fan back on after the threshold of temperature was crossed again.
By the way: computer doesn't get hot at all. The feel is quite cool, as Speedfan utility indicates these temperatures:
GPU: 41C
HD0: 36C
Temp1: 54C
Core0: 30C
Core1: 27C
It appears that I love this lap top almost for everything, except its loud operating sound.
I am running at:
ACER 5739G
Vista 32 bit,
Chipset: Intel PM45
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T6600
GPU: GeForce GT 130M
The Aspire 5739G I purchased from Newegg in July has been randomly crashing on me.
Windows completely freezes without BSOD, I can't move my mouse, the sound skips repeatedly, and the keyboard is unresponsive (num lock won't turn on) which forces me to manually shut down with the power button. The screen flashes a bit before the crash happens.
I first experienced these problems after I installed Windows 7, but I reset to factory defaults w/Vista and the problem still remains. After two fresh installs of Win7 and one of Vista I am stumped. I also ran the Western Digital HDD, memory diagnostic tool, and mem86 and they all didn't find any problems with my hardware.
The crashes have occurred in Excel, playing flash movies, games, but mostly in playing videos. However the crash is completely random. I have tried both media player classic and VLC with different movies and windows has crashed with both. Not to mention that the same video that crashed my computer, I can play again with no problems or it will crash again at a different spot so it's not a corrupt file. Also I've tried both official and unofficial video card drivers and that didn't work. Event Viewer also doesn't tell me crap.
My laptop is still under warranty but I'm afraid Acer won't take it back or do anything if the problem isn't obvious. I once sent this laptop in for a noisy fan (loud buzzing noises) but they sent it back without repair since they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Even though the fan is noisy, speedfan says that temperature is kept cool and I'm also using a laptop cooler.
When I'm listening to music, my speakers tend to crackle every once in a while. Even with headphones, I get the same problem if not worse. I've searched around and it seems to be a driver issue but I've updated to the the latest Realtek HD Audio drivers and it still crackles. I'm just wondering if people with the same laptop have similar issues while listening to music or my laptop is faulty.

My Asprie 5739 appears to have gone into sleep mode. Â When I push the power button the power charge LED below the touch pad blinks, but it does not boot, even when I hold it for a long period of time. Â
Â
I removed the battery and power, then plugged it back in, tried holding down the power button with the same result. Â Left it unplugged for a day, same result.

Have tried to hold the power button + FN F4, still not response.
I have a big issue with my Acer Aspire 5739G laptop that I recently purchased through Ebay. Actually, I bought it from Newegg dba Fred's Fresh Deals. (Newegg sells their returned items and cosmetically damaged goods under this name on Ebay). The laptop was advertised as a possible hard drive issue (it couldn't load windows and the error code looked like a boot sector virus, so I purchased it thinking a simple reformat will fix it).

Anyways...
After I did a fresh reformat of the hard drive and a fresh install of Windows 7, the laptop freezes/locks up after 10-30mins on the desktop. I cannot move the mouse or anything, so I have to do a hard reboot. I don't understand how it is happening.
I updated the mobo's Phoenix driver to the latest one, and tried older VGA Nvidia drivers because I thought it might be a video card driver issue; It is still locking up. I went as far as to purchase a brand new laptop hard drive and the problem still arises. There is no BSOD. As noted earlier, the computer just simply freezes. I cleared CMOS....240M GT VGA is running factory settings....I tried leaving only 1 ram stick in the laptop. I never ran through a problem like this before.
I ran it on Safe Mode and the computer seems to be working fine as long as I do simple tasks or remain idle. I did the SFC /SCANNOW in safe mode and it locks up. I attached my event view file to this email. (I tried to install RivaTuner to underclock factory settings, but the program could not load).
I just received my new Acer Aspire 5739g and I want to get the lastest nvidia drivers but nvidia says that i can't that acer wants me to do if from there site and they aren't up to date. I can't even do it manually by downloading the updated driver from nvidia. I downloaded the newer driver and the only thing it let me update from my download was the audio driver. my geforce driver is still the same one 179.52. How do i get it up to 186.xx. i'm lost. also can i get rid of this "mywinlocker" what is that.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy original hard drive of Acer aspire 5738G crashed and I bought a new 1 TB WD hard drive. I tried to reinstall Windows 7 from recovery disk. All data copy and system restoration (from 3 restoration disks) completed successfully. But after the auto reboot, during “Setup is applying system settings” stage I encountered error message “Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run this computer’s hardware”. I tried reinstalling the OS multiple times but every time I am getting the same error. Before replacing my hard drive, I was using Windows 7 Home Premium OEM version and now I was trying to restore the same in my system.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI bought my Acer Aspire 5738G laptop last november and this month I experienced for the first time my laptop shutting down by itself while playing cs-source.
The laptop is quite hot and upon searching the net found out that it's most likely due to overheating.
My question is about the ventilation at the bottom of 5738G.
Is it supposedly closed? No holes/slots? Cause I think it's the cause of overheating.
The system doesn't have a way to take-in air
It's like it was designed to be a bottom vent for air intake but then forgot to make holes in it.
I also searched for it's manual and confirmed that it is a ventilation slot.
It even says there "do not cover or obstruct the opening of the fan".
(I've got a screen shot attached. I'm talking about part 6. That part of my laptop doesn't have holes/slots but clearly there should be according to the manual.
I just got this laptop (windows vista home premium 64bit) from newegg yesterday and I was wondering why in the task manger and the processes tab, most of the problems end with "*32".
For example:
firefox.exe *32
pidgin.exe *32
Steam.exe *32
I have never used Vista 64 bit before and I was wondering if something is wrong.
This is the first laptop that is now available to buy and has the Geforce GT 240M GPU (40nm, 48 shaders, DX10.1, 128bit, 23W) with 1GB RAM (DDR2 or DDR3).
You can find it in Germany for almost €800 here
1,
2,
3,
4,
5, and here
6
The GPU memory probably is DDR2 otherwise the price wouldn't have been just €799 for GPU with 1GB DDR3.
Since when the 5739G had only 130M or ATI 4570 in the beginning and now it comes with the 240M, that might mean that other laptops (like mine, I wish) might get the upgrade with this GPU as well.
It will very interesting to see how the 240M compares to the ATI Mobility 4650.
