The touchpad on my aspire 5517 has stopped working and I can use the cursor only with a mouse.I have windows 7.I tried system restore and used devise manager.
View 9 RepliesI've been having problems with this device since the day I bought it. The second day I owned it a bad pixel jumped onto the screen. After pushing it for some time physically on the surface of the screen it dissapears for another day or two.
But my biggest problem is taht sometimes touchpad simply stops responding to any gestures or mouse cursor keeps shaking on my screen. The only ting I can do is turn off the whole touchpad and wait for it to repair itself.
Also it happens that for no apparent reason my notebook behaves like as if I had been pressing CRTL button all the time, while I dont do it at all. Pressing S key alone makes it run into save options. Left clicking on the page makes it open in a new bookmark.
I just got this laptop for a month and the touchpad is making me frustrating. The cursor lags, the drag function sometimes not working, the primary and secondary buttons interchange (the settings are not changed), and the left or right-click does not work properly. I got downloading the drivers of the mouse to restoring the pc to its original settings. Currently, the bios is updated but it is still happening though the update made the touchpad to become more responsive than before.

I've read lots of posts about downloading a new driver but I've tried several different ones and none work. I have an Aspire 5517. When I go into the device manager it says the webcam is working....but it isn't.

I looked for drivers but only found vista ones which I installed but still not working. Thankfully I have a bluetooth mouse but it is not that good and I like to use the touchpad.
Using windows 7 32 bit. I might install the OS again but does this sound like a hardware failure?
I have an Aspire E-17. I shut of the curser and or touchpad by mistake. How do I turn it back on?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI wish to disable the touch pad on my Inspiron 1545 with Windows 8.. I have a Logitech wireless mouse. Currently both the mouse and the touch pad operate the curser. I want to only use the mouse. In Windows 7 the default was mouse only as soon as the wireless interface was installed. This is not the case with Windows 8.
I've been told to go to the Device driver and select the touch pad under Mouse and other pointers. The touch pad is not listed. I've tried disabling the PC Mouse compatible but the disable button is inactive.

My touchpad just randomly stopped working when I opened my laptop this morning. I'm using an external mouse right now but need to have access to the touchpad. I have already attempted the following:
Rebooting 5 times
Trying function keys
Toggling on/off: there is not light above the touch pad, and double tapping does not facilitate any change in the light or function of the touchpad
Reinstalling touchpad driver twice
Searching mouse properties: does not list touchpad as mouse device.
The touchpad on my laptop (hp pavilion x2) is not working, the cursor is not visible. It works perfectly well when I plug in an external mouse, however when I unplug it the cursor will freeze and when I use the touchscreen it will disappear completely.

I upgraded to Windows 8.1 recently. I have noticed that my touchpad freezes and my cursor no longer works, no matter how many times I click or try to revive it. If I then start using the touch screen, the cursor disappears altogether and does not come back. This happens completely randomly - sometimes every couple of hours, other times more than once an hour. It has nothing to do with how many programs I have open or how often I am using it.
I go to Device Manager to check the mouse/pointer, and it says the device is working correctly. It also says all available updates have been installed. Most of the times I have to shut my computer and wait for about 30 seconds before opening it, and then the mouse will reappear. But the problem surfaces again after sometime...I am fedup with restarting my laptop everytime.
I have tried all the other tips and driver downloads, removing battery, reloading drivers, sleep "wake up", all with temporary success. Acer says to refresh the computer, that does not work either. It is new with about 20 hours on it. I took the first machine back to retailer and same situation with the new machine.
Clearly this is an issue with Acer notebook touchpads and at least in my case W8.1. That is why google is littered with search titles for acer touch pads not working.
I have purchased an Acer Aspire ES1-111M-C3CP with windows 8. I am generally really pleased with the laptop and quality, except for one thing, the mouse pad stops working. When this happens I have to plug a usb mouse in the move the mouse pointer on the screen. If I restart the laptop then the mouse pad works fine, then randomly it will stop working again.

Looked thru the laptop disassembly stickies above and couldnt find this model.
Is there another model that is very comparable.
I recently purchased a 5517-5779 from best buy. Got a nice deal on it and i think im starting to see why...its only a 160gb HD which im kinda kicking myself for getting. To start with i was sitting at about 105gb with nothing of my own installed.
a week later im sitting at 99.6gb. i have still installed nothing. i have used many HP's and havent had this problem.. there seems to be a memory leak somewhere. Are these prominent with Acer products? I should have familiarized myself with Acer a bit more before purchasing one of their products. If i could resolve this issue i would be 100% satisfied with my newest purchase.
ETA-The pc has already had the geek squads "optimization and restoration" done.
The touchpad on my Inspiron 15z freezes-up a few times a day; the cursor suddenly won't respond and buttons stop working. Restarting the machine usually fixes the problem, until the next time...
View 10 Replies View RelatedMy Acer Aspire 5517 Laptop is running Windows 7 X 64 with an AMD Athlon TF-20 Processor at 1.6Ghz with 2GB of physical memory. Every once in a while, and lately quit frequently, my screen goes black, and it will not boot...I have attached an exterior Monitor to it, with no success, so I assume it is not the video portion. To get it to boot I turn it off and on until it re-boots. Sometimes it reboots quickly and at other times it takes several minutes...up to 20 or 30 sometimes. I have run a disc check to see if all the sectors are good on the hard drive. It checks out okay..I thought if the BIOS was out of date, I would update it, to see if that work....

I leave my computer on during the day, and leave it occasionally for short periods of time..Lately, when I come back to it, the screen will be black..It is black because the computer turns itself off, for no reason that I can find out. When I turn it back on I get a caption that says the "user (name)has been locked out." Below that is a caption that I can click on that reads "switch user." If I click that caption, it says "user logged on." Which is the user that was just locked out! I click on that and my desktop comes up like nothing happened....
So far, to try and correct it, I have flashed the BIOS, because it needed updating. I thought this might work, but it has not corrected the problem. I have also done all of the standard things like defrag., cutting down on desktop icons, fewer starting programs, etc.
I have repaired a few laptop in my time so when a friend said his screen was black but he could read it with a flashlight I guessed right away it was an inverter problem.
I got a new inverter off of *bay, carefully removed the display bezel, swapped in the new inverter and powered it up. Successfully boots into Windows ! Shut it down, screwed the inverter down, put the bezel back on and now the display comes on for 1 second, just long enough to see that "Acer" splash screen, and then goes black. Yes you can still read the screen with a flashlight.
Checked the power in and out wires, they look good. Re-seated both connectors. unscrewed the inverter board from the display so that it is :floating". Nothing. Swapped in the old inverter and it acts the same ?
I have an aspire 5517 that will not boot up the power light comes on but nothing else happens. I've tried attaching an external monitor but it still won't work. All my stuff is on this computer and I need to at least back it up.

Early morning, i get up and go to my laptop for work emails and facebook, START ERROR.
After a shower and breakfast, it starts then TOUCHPAD ERROR.
Bring it to office and get there 9:00 a.m, run TOUCHPAD then good but WIRELESS LAN ERROR.
Before i manage my office works, run WIRELESS LAN then good but goes to BLACK SCREEN ERROR.
After half an hour talks for stuffs, BLACK SCREEN ok then AUTO RESTART ERROR.
Half an hour later, it come back to windows very well but FAN is still sleeping.
Emails, market data pages are running. So I keep to carry on without FAN working. Some minutes later, SHUT DOWN automatically.
Try to restart, cleverly comes to windows back and FAN also works very well but CD comes out without commands.Then to lunch.
After lunch, i resume my works. My laptop is also again to above ERRORS.Then go back to my home at 6:00 p.m.
I have an Aspire 5517 running Windows 7. When on battery power, the computer will not go to sleep if it is playing any audio or video file through the speakers. Pause the stream and the computer will sleep as normal on power saver options, but if I leave it playing on battery power computer will not sleep or hibernate. When battery reaches critical level computer will not shut down and I have to restart windows later. This seems like a problem with a driver.

View 1 Replies View Related2 days ago I bought a acer notebook. The touchpad is working but not the gestures. If i go to the "mouse settings", there are no specific settings for my touchpad. Just the normal mouse settings like pointer speed. I already downloaded the 2 driver which are on the acer support site: TouchPad_Synaptics_18.1.2.1_W81x64_A and TouchPad_ELANTECH_13.6.1.1_W81x64_A. I have installed boot of them sucesfully (there was the green pick).
Also for ur info there are no warning signes for unknown devices in the device manager.
