View 1 Replies View RelatedI just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!). It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb.
I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. All set right?
Not quite. In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2" However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2" Opps! There is no "3" and there is no "4" In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?

I tried using a common stereo jack to RCA cable, using just the left (black) RCA to plug into the digital COAX input of my ampilfier, but nothing came from the speakers.
Do you know how to setup the digital output of the Aspire?

View 4 Replies View RelatedSince 2 years ago, I owned an Acer Aspire 9420. It is a 17" laptop with Intel CPU (Intel C2D T5600). According to Intel website, T5600 processor have Intel Virtualization Technology. However, for unknown reason, there is no option to turn ON Virtualization in the BIOS. Even Acer doesn't provide BIOS update that support this feature. My works involved VMware simulation & this prevent me from running 64 bit guest OS. Since buying another laptop seems not worth at all & Acer Aspire 9420 is a strong laptop to do heavy job, I'm determine, what ever it takes, I will enable Virtualization on this laptop.
For the past 2 years, I have working hard to achieve my objective. I has search & search in the internet and I found a couple of article about hacking the BIOS to enable Virtualization. This is a few forum's threads & articles I found:-

Considering an Aspire One right now because it is less expensive than the others. I have a 512MB RAM (DDR2-PC5300) and 80GB 2.5" SATA HDD from my Thinkpad (which I upgraded both). So, I think maybe I could buy the Aspire One the cheapest version (8GB I guess).
So, is it can be done? I know that there is SATA version of the Aspire One but not sure the connector will be there in the SSD version. Try to google it but found only SSD upgrade....
My understanding is that this notebook has 2 kinds of memory DDR and DDR2. Pasted below is my Aida32 config and I need to know where I can get this specific memory from.
Motherboard:
CPU Type Mobile Intel Pentium M 740, 1733 MHz (13 x 133)
Motherboard Name Acer Aspire 1690
Motherboard Chipset Mobile Intel Alviso-G i915GM
System Memory 502 MB (DDR2-533 DDR2 SDRAM)
I recently upgraded the ram in my 5315 with 2x1GB 5300 DDR2 sticks. Ever scince i did the upgrade i have had the Memory Management Blue screen about once every 3days. The sitcks are installed correctly and ive even tried swapping the order of the sitcks in the slots and i still have this problem. running Vista Basic 32-Bit
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a 5517-5779 from best buy. Got a nice deal on it and i think im starting to see why...its only a 160gb HD which im kinda kicking myself for getting. To start with i was sitting at about 105gb with nothing of my own installed.
a week later im sitting at 99.6gb. i have still installed nothing. i have used many HP's and havent had this problem.. there seems to be a memory leak somewhere. Are these prominent with Acer products? I should have familiarized myself with Acer a bit more before purchasing one of their products. If i could resolve this issue i would be 100% satisfied with my newest purchase.
ETA-The pc has already had the geek squads "optimization and restoration" done.
I have an Aspire E1-571-6650 that is about 1.5 yrs old. I am getting messages that I am almost out of memory (currently 4GB of memory). Not sure what is using up the memory as I don't do any gaming or graphics. I do use the internet, facebook, MS Office, MapQuest, Google Earth, etc.
Beside why am I running out of memory? Can I add memory to this notebook? Got plenty of disk space but might want to add an additional 4GB or more of internal. Possible?
an Acer Aspire 5570z was gifted to me by my father and I own it since 1.5 Year and it works cool, the notebook came with 512MB RAM and I updated it to 512x2 a year back and every thing worked cool, but now, I finally decided to buy a 2 GB RAM, I bought a 2 GB DDR RAM and inserted in my laptop, the laptop works good but problem is that now when I go to CMOS setup, it shows up as Extended memory to 2048MB but I own Windows Vista Ultimate (French) 32BITS ; but my Windows only shows up as I have only 1.00GB of memory!
why my memory RAM is not being showed in Windows?
I wanted to open my box to check the ease (or not) of a memory upgrade but had a helluva sweaty time trying to get the compartment cover off.
After undoing the 4 screws and getting it open a bit, it still seemed VERY firmly held in the vicinity of the fan vent area.
The plastic cover is pretty thin and I was terrified of breaking it, so tried a little prying, a bit of heaving, some levering, tugging, jabbing, swearing, praying etc. I even had the computer overturned and was looking for a way through the keyboard where I was convinced that a bolt must be holding the memory cover down.
Anyway it DID finally come loose but it was a bit scary, so I've made a couple of scans and added some notes on the lugs which were holding it in place in the hope that it might prove useful to others in the same predicament.
One scan is of the actual lid and the other is of what's inside, in case you get to feel like pushing a screwdriver in there - (don't).
When I check in the bios, it has the video memory set at 64mb. It does not give me the option to change this value like my old aspire 5100. Does anyone know of a way to increase the video memory on this lappy?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a new(ish) Aspire 5580-6974 notebook:
Core 2 Duo (T5300) 533 MHz
1GB RAM, etc.
I just bought a 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 dual channel memory kit; that should be a relatively simple upgrade.
I want to eventually upgrade the CPU to the T7600, which is 677 MHz. The intel 945GM chipset should support that, but is it just a matter of dropping in the new CPU? Or are there changes to be made on the motherboard (jumpers, etc)? There doesn't seem to be any such setting options in the BIOS.
I recently got an Aspire 5315 laptop and have been slowly getting it set up to run XP instead of Vista. However, the one problem I am having at the moment is with the Intel X3100 Graphics Accelerator. I have looked all over the internet and can't seem to find any info on how I can define the memory that is allocated to the card, it's all well and good the card using dynamic memory allocation but it's not allocating enough memory. I want to have a fixed 128MB dedicated to the graphics but I can't see any way of doing this either via the Intel software or the BIOS.
I thought I ought to be able to assign a minimum memory amount via the BIOS but graphics memory is locked on my BIOS setting. Would flashing to a later BIOS fix this?
Have a new 3690-2970 with 512 memory Vista Home basic and it runs extremely slow. It has only been on the internet to do MS updates so I know it is not infected with spyware causing it to run slowly. I was thinking a memory upgrade would help.
I got DDR2 533 SO-DIMM, 200-pin memory for it 1 gig but can't for the life of me determine where the memory chip is located
I have looked in two areas on the back of the notebook and can't find it. I looked under Hardrive. and then there is another small panel with one screw but when I opened that there was just this chrome box in there.
Question 2 once I find it can I use both the 512 and 1gig together or only the one 1 gig chip?
I tried locating a tech manual on this notebook and none of the links showed manuals for this model.
I bought Acer Aspire 5315 (hard:80Gb ,Memory:512Mb ,screen cystal 15.4" ,DVD RW , web cam, built in microphone, BUT Video memory 64 MB (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100).
Wherever I search the net i found that video memory:up to 358Mb then why mine shows 64Mb? is there anyway to increase it? I am running windows vista.
My laptop is an Acer Aspire 6935G with Intel C2D P8400 2.26GHz (1066MHz FSB) and 4GB DDR3 RAM. OS is Vista Home Premium 32-bit.
Under the memory tab in CPU-Z, the DRAM Frequency shows as 399MHz. However, the maximum bandwith for the memory under the SPD tab shows as 533MHz. If I'm correct this means my RAM is running at 800MHz instead of 1066MHz.
I've read other threads mentioning this problem and a solution was a BIOS update to v1.10. My current BIOS is v1.05, which has been on my laptop since new.
I've never updated a BIOS before and therefore reluctant in case anything goes wrong. The laptop is running fine with Vista.
My Acer Aspire 5101 wasn't running very fast so after the usual anti-spyware and anti-virus programs I tried the Windows Memory Diagnostic program booting from cd.
My laptop came with two sticks of 512MB DDR2 RAM. I got fails on wmats+ so I tried each stick seperately in both slots. I got the same errors for each stick in either slot.
I don't know what to do now. My laptop is out of warranty so if I want to speak to Acer technical support there's a 50p/min helpline. I thought I'd ask for advice on this forum first to see if anyone had any other advice before I end up spending a fortune on the phone.
it is a Acer Aspire 3680, the other day the clips that holds one stick of memory in broke, does anyone know how I could fix this, was thinking of gluing the clips back on or using electrical tape to hold memory in place,

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have been looking into upgrading my Acer aspire 5610-4537 laptop every single place I looked said something different I finally decided I would trust the website www.crucial.com and there crucial system scanner tool which worked perfect and was correct even thought everyone else said it was wrong. My CPU had 2 caches for 2x512mb to make a 1gig of ram which is no where near enough for this laptop to be running windows vista or even thinking of running multiple programs. So after I ran the crucial scanner tool it told me what ram I had currently and how much I could add to my system it picked 2 GB 200pin ddr2 sodimm 256x64 pc2-5300 dual die so I ordered two of them to bring my system to 4gigs. I was a little worried because I do only have a 32bit operating system but all I had to was unplug the old chips and insert the new ones and press power and that was it no updates no changing bios or operating system so I would highly recommend using this web site.
