Acer :: Aspire 5942G Display (diagonal Lines Over Colors)
Mar 7, 2010
I experience the following display problem with Acer Aspire 5942G:
When certain colors are displayed on the laptop screen, thin diagonal lines ( like waves ) start moving all over the mentioned color ( see the attached photo and movie).
The effect is very annoying and well seen when You look from underneath the display. The exact color depends on the color calibration and the Acer Cine Boost Color Engine but always exist.
I attach a test pattern of 4 colors - they are light ones. Each color reacts as explained depending on color calibration : default MS Windows 7 calibration , default ATI video driver calibration, Acer CineBoost Color Engine On/Off.
It is not affected by hot/cold notebook, battery/normal power. It does not affect the external display.
From time to time, only a blink of a second though, I'd get the lines seen on the print screen below on this Sony VGN-Z890. Moving the mouse will make them disappear. If I remember correctly this happens in both Stamina/Speed mode.
Mobile Intel 4 series driver: 8.15.11.8684 nvidia: 186.84 (directX 11) Bios: INSYDE R5030M3 (18.08.2009)
I have a Vaio Z with the 1600 by 900 screen, since having it repaired (the bottom case replaced) I have noticed Diagonal lines from the top left to bottom right.
I have had it in with Vaio Link, but they say they can see nothing wrong with it and sent it back
The lines/banding show in the Bios so it is not software related.
Does any else's screens look like this? I have compared it with another model in the Sony Shop and that one didn't seem to have the issue.
1: Diagonal lines from top left to bottom right in the lighter colours, this is in MS paint.
2: BBC web site, the Diagonal lines are clearly seen in the BBC blue.
3: Sony Vaio Bios, is clear in the light blue and lightly in the white area.
I must admit that there are the diagonal lines that appear on the vaio Z when the laptop moves or just for no reason. It's very fine, but obviously there has been alot of discussion about it. Every Z (or 95%) of them I have viewed (about 10) have this issue and I can truly see it. I saw it before I read these forums and was like "what is this?" Well, how can I make this phenomenon not bother me, b/c it seems like it's not constantly being brought up in these forums anymore.
I feel it detracts from my enjoyment such that I want to sell the Z which I just got. Is there a way to unlearn what I've already seen? I guess do you really stop noticing it after time?
I'm having big problems with my NEW Aspire 5942G. I bought it last week, everything worked just fine, till last week when he crashed for the first time. I was playing Grand Theft Auto 4 and the screen freezed. I restarted it and everything worked well (i didn't played any games in the mean time) until yesterday.
I was working in Photoshop than the laptop restarted. He didn't even wanted to boot anymore, he restarted many more times. When he worked again i was trying to render a video....again : restarting. I went outside with the laptop and tried to render the video again. It worked! So...i guess the problem is that when he gets to warm he suddenly restarts...
But there's one more problem : when i move the laptop from a place to another, he restarts again. I just don't get it. It's a brand new laptop, as i told you, bought it last week. What can i do? I really need it and i cannot send it to the service becuase it will take too long...
I bought Acer Aspire V3-772G about a week ago. It was without an OS which I installed myself. First I installed win 7. When I was trying out new PES 2014, I had a problem with movement with arrow keys.
I mean no diagonally moving or anything. Only up, down, left, right. Laptop doesn't recognize multy pressed arrow keys. At first I thought it was an windows issue cause all drivers in Acer support page are for win 8. Installed win 8 and still same problem.
I have an Acer Aspire E1 model Q5WPH, runnng Windows 8. All has been well until this week when the screen began flashing random colours.
I powered the machine off and from then on it refuses to boot back up. Power appears to be getting through as it starts up the DVD drive but then the power light goes off - then back on and the process continues until I power the machine off again.
Firstly the power management button does not seem to work.
I have of course launch manager and power management programs installed.
When i press the button, it does light up green, but i have no indication on the screen like i have when i activate wlan or bluetooth.
When the drivers of the powersmart manager are uninstalled the button does not light up green when i press it, so it partially works.
Also, nothing changes in my power settings nor the screen brightens down, no sign that it works.
Actions i took so far: I uninstalled and installed both programs, and i run them as admin.
I installed first the launch manager and then the power management.
Nothing changed.
I go to c: program files:acer:acer powersmart manager and try to open the right exe file which i think is ePowerMsg but then i get an error message saying that the element ePowerMsg stopped working.
The window is this: Is this the right exe? I tried with ac only, ac and battery, battery only, same results.

Found and attempted to apply Win64_153318.exe on Intel Graphics website for my Intel 4000 Graphics hardware. This failed to install, with error message that it is not for my system (It was clearly marked Intel 64 bit, Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000.
Also found on HP Envy drivers, SP63750.exe, Version 10.18.10.3304, dated November 8, 2013. Made no noticeable change.
In some cases, I could get the color acceptable for one mode (Viewing JPG file), but unacceptable for screen display. I tried the high contrast mode, but made the screen really hard to follow with all those text boxes, like looking at a brick wall.
If I look at the same files with my (Win 7 Updated) Netbook mini 1101, all the graphics are really normal color and contrast. (Maybe the drivers got messed up when I had sent it on for repair to the HDD/MoBo). I haven't tried a total reset yet, it's always such a pain to do a master reset to see it is a hardware failing or not.
How to get my colors and contrast back to normal????
last week i had 1 vertical pink line come on my screen and i dont know why because i hadnt dropped it or anything, but ever since i have been getting more and more of them until today when i turned it on and theres a big group of them.
I was wondering if i brought a new lcd for it would this fix this problem?
And also how easy are they to fit by yourself if you dont really know much about computers?
I have had my Acer since new (about 2 years), not having any problems with it whatsoever, until recently, when it decided that upon displaying dark (black, grey etc) background it will intermittently flash white vertical lines across the screen.
Since it is out of warranty I have had it looked up by a repair company, which have said it was the screen connection cables that were at fault. That helped the problem for about a month, after which it reappered.
I have repeated the process then - the company replaced the connections, but this time it didn't help at all.
As this is happeneing randomly I am now asking, what could be the casue of such a fault,, if anyone has any idea. If there are any questions I will respond to the best of my knowledge.
I have made a short video that shows exactly what happens [url]
I have dell Inspiron 5520 laptop now i have install windows 8.1.when i install windows 8.1 the screen display problem accur.screen color is convert into black and white and also distortion problem occur. I have already install chipset drivers.......
My acer aspire 6930 would crash and then have problems starting up sometimes the blue screen would show up and sometimes i would see lines on my screen and it freezes and also sometimes it just fades away. When i try to restart it the computer wont boot but all the lights are on.
I was given a old imac. It's white, has 2.16 Ghz processor, 3GB RAM and the latest version of OSX.
I am a having two problems with it.
1. Seemingly at random, lines of varying length, one or a couple of pixels tall, appear on the display. Within each line the pixel by color appears to be random.
2. Sometimes I will click on a website or launch something and I get the multicolored wheel. The machine freezes and the wheel keeps going round and round and round. This seems to happen most frequently when making a video full screen. I wind up turning the machine off and restarting it.
Any ideas as to what's wrong? Video card? Video card memory?
My Y500 (one of the older models) has some weird display issues for some time now. When I try to adjust the screen angle, some horizontal green lines appear randomly on my screen. Some other parts also have vertical magenta lines. Then I have to try several angles until I find a position where the display doesn't show any problems. This happens almost every time when I open the display and turn it on. Sometimes it is less of a problem and sometimes more. If I don't move the laptop or the screen the problem does not show up. My drivers should all be up to date and I have Windows 8.1.
I have an hp Pavilion g7-1150us Notebook that is approximately 3 yrs old. I turned it on the other day to find that the screen is all pink and green with lines etc... Is there an independent video/graphics card that can be replaced? I would like to be somewhat knowledgeable when taking it in to be repaired.
I have encountered vertical lines on the lower half of my screen and it is always there. When you reboot, it comes up right away. I read where someone else had the same problem and it would come and go at will..
Yesterday I set my laptop on my desk and the bottom portion of the screen turned into a colored mess.
I don't exactly know how to explain it so I've placed thumbnails below to better show you what is happening. The screen remained like this until I picked it up and placed it down again, then it went back to normal. However, now every time I pick it up it does the same thing and won't return to normal unless I set it down a certain way. Has anyone had this problem before, or can anyone help me solve this issue?
I am currently running an Inspiron 9300 with a 1.60 GHz M Processor, ATI Radeon X300 128 MB, 2GB of Ram, and XP Pro.My specific screen is the 17 inch LCD WUGA.
I own a HP dv5t-1000 LAPTOP which I bought around 3 months ago.It was running great, but now a problem in LCD screen has starts appearing. Its really hard to explain that why I have attached snaps to show what's really happening.
What happens that some time discontinuous horizontal lines appears on the lower or upper part or on the whole screen of the laptop. They become prominent when the LCD brightness is dim.
The screen become normal again when I move the laptop lid back or froth.
To double check my LCD I even tried using secondary display (A CRT monitor) and the picture appears to be fine on the monitor(I guess Graphic Card is working fine).
I have an hp compaq nx6330 (ex856av) using windows xp. last may, the screen turned black (i was told i need to replace the lcd), so i decided to use a generic external monitor. a couple of months ago, i had to have it repaired and the repair guy said he'll upgrade the OS to windows 7. things were working fine for about a month then the screen (external monitor, since the laptop screen is dead) starting having vertical gey lines (the entire screen). i played with the resolution and i was able to get rid ofthe lines a couple of times. are the lines due to using windows7? can this particular model handle any OS besides the one (windows xp) it came with?
My HP Pavilion g6-1207ev is appearing green and purple lines on the screen. It started out of the blue, they come ang go from time to time but when they appear they remain even after it shuts down or restart.
My screen recently started getting a lot of faded white lines going horizontal and vertical across my screen causing the screen to blur/disorientated my screen. I can still navigate just fine but there is clearly something wrong here. I've plugged it into my hdmi's port on my tv and the image is just fine. Is it a wiring problem maybe? The lines are getting slightly more extreme and a little more colored... They lines of windows extend around the border all the way to the end if the screen.
I have a pavilion dv6, working perfectly till I closed the lid ( probably a bit too hard :/ ) and then when I opened the lid these vertical white, red and green lines are there. And a black stripe at the bottom of the display. Also horizontal grey bars covering the start button completely.
I have a dell Inspiron n5010 laptop and use it for personal works and photo editing as a photographer. when I watch a picture, in some specific zoom levels there are weird vertical and horizontal lines witch create many regular squares in the picture. it's not matter what software display it for me (it happens in every photo browsers I have and even in firefox) here you can see them (this picture is taken by Prntscr Button):
here you can see that little squares witch is annoying for me as a photographer! these squares goes away if i zoom in more! but some times squares are bigger like this: (same photo) as you can see it looks like some sort of distortion! and here you can see the same photo when it is displayed normally: my own guess is some sort of GPU problem!what I should do to get rid of these squares? some of my laptop specs are as follow: Dell Inspiron 15 (N5010) Laptop CPU: intel core i5 2.8
my old travelmate 8104's LCD started having problems few months ago. First the colors were corrupted and shifting the screen slighty to a different position helped. After a while the problem got worse; there's no real picture, just pixel-garbage. Shifting the screen still has an effect to the image, but no real picture appears.
I have the service manual and I'm planning to disassembly the laptop and I'd appreciate any advice where to find the problem. Broken cable or bad connectors?
I have a 1 year old dell inspiron 5520 and about a month or two back, the display started showing white lines at the top and bottom. One day, it stopped working and we gave it to this tech guy. He replaced the motherboard and battery(The laptop worked but was noticeably slower). The white lines still existed and the screen started jumping up and down. Changing the refresh rate worked temporarily. And then my mother gave it to the tech guy again. She got suspicious of him and asked him to return it. And he did but now, the laptop display won't boot and there's the 8 beeps. I connected the laptop to our properly working PC monitor to see if it was the laptop's display's fault. But, it still gives 8 beeps and the monitor shows a blank black screen.
My Dell XPS 15z model laptop display screen is suddenly turning to noising with vertical and horizontal scattered color lines. This is happening every 15 to 30 min and when the mouse cursor is activating after automatically resuming the screen normally.
