what is the highest capacity HDD I could use in the Aspire 5610 Series please? At the moment, I have a 160gb SATA HDD but would like to upgrade to a higher capacity if at all possible?

Apparently, it is dual channel memory but it doesn't actually tell you what memory it will take or what memory speeds it will take as the destruction manual isn't very helpful at all (typical Acer)? I know it will hold up tp 4Gb of RAM and it has 1 x 1Gb 533/667 (I think that's what it is) in at the moment but I would like to upgrade to faster memory if possible? Could anybody assist and let me know exactly what the specs for the memory are please?
In the specs of my Acer Aspire 5610, it says it will accept up to 4Gb RAM, yet a friend has just told me that it will only recognise up 2Gb of RAM? Is this correct? As I can't see how Acer can say it will take 4Gb of RAM if it will only accept up to 2Gb? Also, I have another slot on the motherboard and the same friend tells me its a mini PCI slot but I don't know what the hell they are? I am geting so confused here listening to people with one person saying one thing and the specs saying something totally different! Also, I have 2Gb of 533 RAM at the moment but I have been told that it will also take PC2 4200?

1. The silver directional square in between the two buttons on my touchpad dont scroll anymore, now they just act like the left click button. i used to be able to push the downward part and it would bring the page down.
2. my media buttons on the right side of the keyboard do not work at all. (the volume, play, fb, ff)
3. My windows side bar is activated, but doesnt show up...
My Acer Aspire 5610 constantly overheats and shuts off. The fans arent clogged or anything and there's nothing that I can see that would prevent them from cooling the chips.My battery goes low quite fast even though I have it set to power saver.Buttons on my keyboard don't work very well, I can't use the mouse/touchpad or scroll buttons to scroll. And now when it performs POST, it has a lot of short beeps...like beep beep beep beep beep beep beep beep...no break or pause between the beeps.And it keeps going, it doesnt allow me to turn the computer off by pressing the button either, I have to take the battery completely out. The only way to pass the POST and beeping, I have to press F2 as if I wanted to go to setup, then it loads up correctly.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an Aser Aspire 5610 - 2328. The model is 5610z. I have the same issue with my webcam and it is orbicam with logitech software. I also here the unplugging sound and also get BSOD's. My laptop is under warranty and it has been sent in to be checked. They could not find any issues also when I click the orbicam icon first try it shows it disconnected. I try again it works. They still claim its working and nothing they can do they have also seen what it doese when clicking on the icon and still claim its working.
Not sure if they really checked the connections I will look into it. It is under warranty thru Wal-Mart and was sent to a place called Cyber Test in Longwood Florida.
I am trying to perform a factory reset for a Acer laptop but I cannot find an option that I am looking for.
I hit ALT + F10 at bootup and I get to the eRecovery Management screen.
From here, I get two choices:
1. Restore system to factory default.
2. Restore system from CD/DVD
As, I do not have any DVDs, I choose option 1. After that, the recovery process continues without any more prompts and restores the laptop to its default settings.
Here is the problem but. The laptop has a 120GB Had drive which after factory reset is split into 2 partitions of 55GB each with the remaining 10GB for the hidden recovery partition. Thus there is 3 partitions in total.
As it is Vista Premium, C: is already 50% full straight after the factory reset.
Is there any way I can perform the reset and have an option to just have one C drive of 110GB? I did not see any such option when performing the reset by using ALT + F10. There doesn't seem to be an option for this when performing the reset from within Windows itself.
I was thinking maybe deleting the D partiton before performing the reset may help but I am not 100 percent sure as I am not sure if the factory image contains 1 or 2 partitions.
Have a AS5610 and recently it is dog slow on bootup (8 Mins until the computer is usable). Have removed hard drive and scanned it with several malware scanners, tested the hard drive for physical problems as well as running memtest on the memory. None showed any problems.
Have run msconfig and disabled everything and that allowed a usual computer after 4 mins.
I ran a shareware util called BootLog XP and it appears to indicate that LVPRICINJ.DLL is running for 509 secs of a normal bootup. This is the logitech video camera driver. I was thinking of uninstalling the Orbitcam software and drivers but can not find the current drivers on the Acer (N America) site.
I have an Acer Aspire 5610-4179 laptop which was recently shipped back to me from the factory. I had been experiencing several problems, all of which were detailed and only some of which were fixed. I love having it back so much, though, that I am reluctant to send it away again. Some of the problems I am running into deal with the Orbicam camera and the touchpad. I have tried updating the drivers for these, but that doesn't seem to solve the problem. The camera still says that it is not plugged into a working USB port even though it's an internal camera; the touchpad works for moving the mouse, but tapping on the touchpad does not act as a mouse-click anymore. In addition, the volume and DVD control buttons on the right side of the keyboard no longer work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have been looking into upgrading my Acer aspire 5610-4537 laptop every single place I looked said something different I finally decided I would trust the website www.crucial.com and there crucial system scanner tool which worked perfect and was correct even thought everyone else said it was wrong. My CPU had 2 caches for 2x512mb to make a 1gig of ram which is no where near enough for this laptop to be running windows vista or even thinking of running multiple programs. So after I ran the crucial scanner tool it told me what ram I had currently and how much I could add to my system it picked 2 GB 200pin ddr2 sodimm 256x64 pc2-5300 dual die so I ordered two of them to bring my system to 4gigs. I was a little worried because I do only have a 32bit operating system but all I had to was unplug the old chips and insert the new ones and press power and that was it no updates no changing bios or operating system so I would highly recommend using this web site.

My Aspire E15's brightness is locked at maximum capacity. I can't change it in power options or with the Fn key. It is the same whether connected to the AC adapter or not. While using the Fn key and pressing Fn+Left Key or Fn+Right Key, the on-screen brightness indicator alternates between two levels but the brightness of the screen doesn't change.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Aspire 5750G that started out with 1TB of disk space. Now it says I only have 100GB free of ca. 650 GB! How did 1TB turn into 650 GB?! I've been trying to use Nero Backitup 2014 to back up my drive to my NAS, and couldn't - I think the capacity shrinkage is why. (Nero tells me there isn't room on my laptop to update, even though I'm trying to update FROM the laptop to the NAS. I went through the procedure with Nero Support, and they couldn't find out why it was happening.) I've done a disk defrag, but still haven't regained the missing capacity.

Problem: My 1TB capacity (not usage) appears to have shrunk to 650 GB.
Program troubles: Nero Backitup 2014 can't deal with the missing capacity, even when I try clearing out my NAS and doing a repeat backup. The exact error message is: It is not possible to sync because the space is full at this location: (My C: drive) Check the space and try again.
Tried: Defragging, no luck.
I have an Acer 5610-4610 system. It was repartitioned to one XP drive for several years. I am finally wanting to put the PQ service partition back on it but none of the folders of the restore CD's have any of the files needed to recreate this partition. I am wanting to put the factory (VISTA Home Premium) system on C. With all the system files and folders from the 3 restore CD's into the PQSERVICE partition. I have no clue how to proceed.
I do remember there was an acer(C) partition and a data (D) partition when I got it. The PQSERVICE partition was there back then.
The first (System) CD has none of the files mbrwrdos.exe or rtmbr.bin
used to create the PQSERVICE system.
I run the ACER Disk Formatter and it cannot find any drives on the laptop.
Weird! From what I've been able to glean my thought was that that the Formatter disk would facilitate creating the correct partitions?
I just bought 2x2gb ram from my Acer Extensa 5610 and my Windows 7 x64 can see it right, but only use 3gb. Resource monitor says the other 1gb is Hardware reserved. In the Bios theres an info saying extended memory 3gb. Is that what the problem is? coz its not something I can set in this version of bios.
Do i have to upgrade my bios? if so, to what version? The manual clearly says i can upgrade to 4gb. (extensa 5610 has intel 945 chipset)
How I put the bluetooth back on my 5610? When I first got the laptop, bluetooth was enabled (I think) as there was a blue LED lit on the front of the machine by the sliding bluetooth control button. I have since had to reformat as I loaded some drivers for a Compro TV stick that was 'supposed' to be Vista compatible. Needless to say, it screwed everything up so I ended up just reformatting and reloading everything. I have been to the Acer FTP site as Acer themselves told me to do and clicked on the Vista link and downloaded the Bluetooth program and loaded it but nothing happens? No blue LED or nowt.

But when I plug this lead in my laptop just stays connected to to my wireless network. I tried disabling the Wireless on my computer then putting the lead in but still it wont attempt to connect to the internet with the ethernet lead in. What driver do I need to download so it will recognize the lead is in the laptop and attempt to connect to the internet?

I am working on my brothers laptop.
Its an Acer 5610 that came with Vista.
He had a broken screen and a virus. I repaired his screen and he then took it to a "buddy" who partitioned the HD to save the pictures ect on it and put XP on the other partition.
My brother was updating drivers when he rebooted it and it just wouldn't restart.
This is a description of the problem:
"I hit the power button , lights come on (no HD light though). and the Fan spins for about 30 seconds and stops. After about 1 minute the fan starts back up and stays on.
Power light , battery charger light stay on but nothing happens."
I pulled the covers off the back and everything seems seated and where it belongs.
Recovery disks have been ordered (before I knew the full extent of the problem) and will be here in a week or so but I don't think they will do any good on a system that wont boot.
I have repaired a few desktops but this is my 1st laptop repair.
My Acer 5610 had a "Supervisor Password" entered, I believe by my grandson two years ago. I noticed it once, didn't know how go get in so never did. Recently had a bad day. Used what I had for a restore back a few days, nothing worked.
I have the two Recovery Disk I made the day I bought this. Never used them. I can't get the disk to take hold and restore to Factory. I get a message I'm going to try to attach. It's not clear. What is stumping me is the last entry. "[ /NoExecute=Option]" That is the bottom. On the bar at the bottom is "ENTER=Submit" I've tried every thing I know to do.
I've learned to use the PC on my own as I live many miles from a city. Done fair but now I'm stumped. By the way I'm 75 years of age. My learning term as been more than 7 years.
I've got a 5610 (5612wlmi).
The Hitachi-LG GSA-4082N cd/dvd burner seems to have mostly died. It only occasionally recognises that a disk is in the drive, and burns almost always fail.
I've tried cleaning the lens and I've removed the unit and given the contacts a clean and a dust down. Still problematic.
I'm assuming that there's a hardware fault on the drive.
I'd like to replace the drive but the only GSA-4082N I can find are 2nd-hand out of old lHPs etc on eBay.
Is there a new and not-too-expensive unit that will work as a drop-in replacment?
What is the maximum ram capacity of a older X31 2673? I would like to take it to the highest possible; is 4Gb ram an option? I'm hoping this will speed up things, as it's slow at times.

Basically I'm after something similar to what I've got with improvements (a little bigger would be fine but not too big - say 14" max) - good battery life, can have windows 8.1, a touch screen and can get an SSD (again happy to upgrade via crucial or other third party) and can support 16Gb of RAM.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIt's been about 5 months since I started to use my Thinkpad  X230.  Only three days ago it could work for 5-6 hours without charging.  I could charge it at home, bring it to school and use it without charging.  But suddenly the battery started to die in a short amount of time.  Then I explored the battery settings a little bit.  I found out it says "Battery Condition: poor" and "Your battery can 47% of its original full charge capacity." Â

It has warranty until 2015. So can Lenovo send me a new battery if I want so? Or is it a problem that warranty doesn't cover?
I did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate 64bit a few days ago.
All is fine except one major issue; My battery capacity dropped to half of that in Vista. I am now lucky to get over 3.5 hours. In Vista I had an average of 6-7 hours.
What could be the cause of this? I have updated all drivers and empowering software. I also installed the Vista version of the Optical Drive Power Management just to see if that was the cause.
Anyone else experiencing poor battery times in W7? Is 64bit known for reducing battery times?
I had an Acer Aspire in the 5000 series. A drink got spilled on the keyboard and I cut the power to the unit immediately. The motherboard was fried anyway, but the hard drive was salvageable. I had it put in a USB case to access the data as an external hard drive when I needed it. I had trouble with permissions on some folders and documents at times, but I was generally able to access what I needed.
A couple of weeks ago I opened a folder on the external hard drive that I hadn't been to since I replaced my notebook. I forgot what happened at the time, but I was called out of the office. Since then, I'm unable to read the USB hard drive at all. I get an error message that says "E Drive Not Accessible. Folder or Directory is Corrupt & Can Not Be Accessed". Every recovery solution I've found is for an internal hard drive. Will I need to try to put it in my current Aspire 6920 to do a directory repair/recovery? Is there a way to recover it externally without sending it out to a data recovery service?
So my g/f has bought this laptop from her brother for £100 and upon this he did tell us the battery is dead and the charger he is using ins't the official charger but the laptop works.
Upon getting the laptop I decided to try and make the battery last longer by discharging and charging it a few times fully, but this has just completely stopped the batery from working, fullstop.
So now I am having to run it off the power supply solely.
I have ordered a new battery from ebay and made sure it is the correct battery by checking the model of the laptop, model of the battery and not only that it's £15 cheaper then getting it from shops.
Dispite all that I still need to get a charger for this model, so I found one on ebay which said it was for the 5000 series but not my model, I emailed them and they confirmed to me that it wouldn't work for my laptop.
So now I am on the lookout for a charger for this laptop 5003WMLi but I don't know the model number for the charger so if anyone has an official charger for the 5003WLMi can they please post the model number so I can look for a cheap official charger.
Or if anyone knows what watt, voltage I need then I could perhaps get a charger to suit my needs................................
I'm an HP user myself, but my girlfriend has an older ACER Aspire 3000 series (about 2.5 years old). I recently reformatted it, and did a clean install using the recovery discs...
Everything seemed to go fine, until I noticed in the disc manager that the Hard Disc has 3 partitions... one is like 3GB, and the other 2 are about 27GB each... One is the Main C: Drive, and the other is called "Acer Data". This is driving me nuts! She only has 27GB of usable storage on her computer, and I can't figure out how to consolidate the 2 Partitions to make 1 large one. Can anyone please help? It's a 60GB harddrive, and I'd hate to see that go to waste for "Acer data" (whatever that is).
Also, the disc was formatted in FAT32... Is there any reason Acer chooses that file system over NTFS? I'd prefer to format the drive with NTFS... I'm just concerned that if I reformat the drive I'll lose all the drivers and stuff. The computer currently doesn't have any programs installed or any data that needs backing up, so I'm not concerned about that stuff.
