Acer M5-581T :: Windows 8.1 - System Turns On From Fresh Boot When Open Lid After Sleep
Dec 5, 2014
I've had the M5-581T for 1yr and has worked fine. Now I have followed the directions for the suggested 8.1 upgrade.
Now I've been noticing intermittant events where I close the lip and the system goes to sleep. But when I choose to open the lid and wake back up the system actually turns on from a fresh boot thus losing anything I had open when the lid was closed to sleep. This seems to happen most when the unit is not plugged in but not all the time.
Also the unit will sometimes wake back up but not have any WIFI access and state that the WIFI is turned off w/o the option to turn it back on. This is only fixed by closing all and restarting.
What BIOS/Drivers need to be installed to fix this or is there a Battery issue?
I have an acer M3 581T which I bought about a year ago. Now, windows crashed and said there was a file missing. I am no longer able to boot up the system, I've tried the erecovery (alt f10) but it just proceeds and says it's not able to boot. I have no recovery cd/usb at hand. It is of my understanding that this ultrabook has two harddrives. One SSD on which the operating system is installed and one HDD with the other files on.What do I do to make it work again? I do not care if all my files are lost.
It is a XPS 15 9530 and when set to sleep when the lid is closed the unit will not wake when the lid is opened. If I then press the power button it lights up and I hear a faint sound for about 20 sec (fan, disk, nothing weird) and then the sound stops. I never see anything on the screen. If I press the power button, again, then it says the PC wasn't shutdown correctly. Next, it runs some diagnostics for about 10 seconds and then it starts normally.
I bought a Aspire E5-551 on amazon second hand. Had a fresh Windows 8.1 on it. Turn it on, mess around, everything seems fine if not slow due to the HDD. Pop in a new SSD I bought that tested OK on with another computer. Install Windows 8.1 Via USB. It get to the part will it tell me to restart, upon restart it will always hang at getting ready or some such thing. I let it set for hours, even the spinning icon stropped spinning.
So I reset the laptop via the power button. I get the error "The Computer Restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error" and tell me to restart. It will keep doing this no matter how many times I click restart. Never had this issues with all the other computers or laptops I ever installed 8.1 one but the internet has a solution. While the "The Computer Restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error" is on screen you can bring up cmd line via shift+f10 and bring up regedit. The fix is to go to HKLocal machine/SYSTEM/SETUP/STATUS/ChildCompletion and change the setup.exe key to 3. After this I'll get some issues with blank screens upon restart but after 1 or 2 reboots i get to my desktop. Though the desktop doesn't have all the apps and things a fresh windows install comes with.
Like IE is not even listed on the start menu. Looks like a halve baked install or something. But everything is fine. While like this I can reboot the machine a bunch. Click around, seems okay. Seems like all is well till I start installing drivers. Ill go installing drivers then the machine will stop responding to clicks but the mouse still moves around. When I reboot it like this Ill get struck at "getting ready" and i'll never be able to get to my desktop again. Now I can get into safe mode and Ill uninstall all the drivers but when I try to do a regular boot ill just hang at "getting ready'.
I have an Acer 6930ZG with a fresh install of windows 7 RC 32bit. I can play Call Of Duty 4, Counter Strike, Flatout 2 etc. with no problems! But when I try to open MapleStory a blue screen appears, and begin to make a physcial memory dump? . MapleStory is a 2D-game, and Call Of Duty requires much more.
I made a little research, and I found out that alot of people have the same problem, and they said it was caused by a conflict with a program or hardware drivers. I have tried to delete my NVIDIA driver, and install it again. No luck.
And yes, I have also tried to run MapleStory in compatibily mode
As I said: It's only in MapleStory I experience the problem, and I don't think it's ram-failure, since I have seen the same problem on a different computer, and I can play Call of Duty 4.
Here is the system log: Problemsignatur: Navn p problemhndelse:BlueScreen OS-version:6.1.7100.2.0.0.256.1 Landestandard-id:1030.....................
I have installed a clean Windows 8.1 on the Helix and have several issues.
The first thing I did after installing the system (and critical Windows Updates) was running the Lenovo System Update tool and downloading everything.
Helix turns on by itself after shutting down or putting into sleep. Disabled intel rapid start in BIOS. Cannot alter the “30 day standby mode” in settings because dependency package cannot be installed (issue 1).
I have an Aspire M5-581T and all USB devices that I plug into any USB ports comes up with the mesage that "The USB device can perform faster if you connect it to a Hi Speed 2.0 port". When I check Device Manager it is showing a whole list of USB Device Drivers (See Below). Do I just delete all but the USB 3.0 Device Drivers??
If I close the lid it goes to sleep and when I open the lid it is resuming . If I don't close the lid and it goes to sleep I can't wake him up, tried pushing the blinking power button, keys, trackpad nothing works...
I am probably stuck with 4 primary partitions (two WINRE, EFI, and C), and unable to split C on a fresh system installation from HP DVDs.
320GB HDD has failed on my G6 2233 HP laptop. I've mounted a 500GB replacement, and done the following things: installed Windows 8 from the HP System Recovery DVDs (provided by HP, not recorded by me, fresh installation)removed the recovery partition with HP Recovery Managerinstalled all Windows 8 updates, and HP Support Assistant updates upgraded to Windows 8.1installed all Windows 8.1 updates, and HP Support Assistant updatesWent to the system partition tool, to see 4 primary partitions created...
At this point I was unaware, this may be an issue. I've tried to split C as seen on the image. Wasn't able to set desired values (max value was to about two of equal size, due to ummovable files), but that was nothing new for me - on the previous 320GB HDD I've ran into the same issue, as I could (but COULD) do two about 14xGB partions. Here I've wished for 120GB and 344GB.Anyway, even with various values I've got an error on the next step, claiming that there is no room on the HDD.
Then I've decided to try EasyUS software, as it worked for me me in the past.First screen is without any action (there is a bunch of weird partitions there, all created by HP software/OS).
I could choose to decrease the partition size, but option to create on from the unallocated space was not active.
I am confused. If I am not mistaken, I should not remove the two WINRE and one EFI partition, but I either convert C to logical partition (this option is not active on EasyUS (could do that on my USB HDD drive), or remove one or more of the other primary partitions.
Even if I will find a way to convert C to logical, is that safe, and should I after D is created return C to primary?
I've tried to play safe, and let the HP/OS software do the job, and they left me with 4 primary partitions...
OK I've found the guide which sadly does not seem safe... [URL]...
Unfortunately they seem to have different names... What is the EFI partition HP Toolls as mentioned in the guide etc.
I guess I should, after installing Windows 8, and removing the recovery partition, create a new partition then, and upgrade to 8.1...
I've read other forums on similar issues, but I can't seem to find one that matches mine exactly.

Problem: When I put the computer into sleep mode, it goes into sleep mode without issue. It has stayed in sleep mode for a maximum of 8 hours, but usually before it hits this long the system will turn on. It seems to run random processes and overclock the processor as the computer gets very hot. It will do this until the battery dies, or if plugged in, indefinitely.
While it is doing this I have opened the lid, pressed every key, including power, with no response. Once, and only once, upon pressing the space bar, it had actually come to the unlock screen as though it truly was in sleep (except it was still overheating and on). Otherwise my only option is hard shut down.
I've just gone around it for a while now by shutting down every time and not using sleep. But today I had put it in sleep, and placed it in my backpack where it nearly cooked itself to death.I have tried:
-I have checked the wake_armed, which currently display NONE -I have checked last_wake -I have fiddled with hybrid shutdown.
I own an Acer Aspire M5-581T.Everything with it works fine except this one problem. While I am using it on battery (i.e. not charging), it shuts off unexpectedly. If the charger is connected, it runs just fine. No unexpected shut offs.

My XP finally gave up and so have a brand new Acer Aspire E5 with 8.1 which is a beautiful machine and love lots of the features but if I can't figure out how to open a downloaded embroidery design with the Bernina Artlink 7 software (download free from Bernina) I have no use for it at all. This should be a very simple task and has turned into a nightmare of support calls with no one understanding that all I need is to be able to tell the computer what program I want to use for opening the embroidery design.
I have an old Presario R3000, someone updated it to windows 7, has a few problems, especially cd drive not reading bootable disc, as would like to install Vista instead...
I've been working on this issue on my own for about a week now. I'm not entirely sure how to start explaining, so I'll just do a rundown of the noticable issues.
Hovering over the speaker icon gives me the text, "No speakers or headphones are plugged in." I use the internal speakers, and I always have my headphones plugged in. Audio playback troubleshooting doesnt give me anything (though at one point during my progress, it said that my audio device was disabled.)
Device management has been confusing at best. I can't seem to get the Realtek W8.1 drivers to properly download, even after finding the Acer-support driver.
F11 system recovery can open but in the end its not working, cant even open using boot manager ,looks like the disk driver is not working what will i do?
I installed "Startup Inspector for Windows" and got an error message that borlndmm.dll was missing and therefore the program could not open. I did a Norton power scrub, ran MWB, did a clean reboot.
I have an Aspire M5-581T. In March of 2014, the battery suddenly stopped working. It would not charge, the unit would not boot from the battery, and if I unplugged the computer from the AC outlet it shut down completely.
I just received my MBP 13" yesterday. So far I love it. However, I noticed an issue. Last when I put my MBP to sleep, it had about 30% battery left. However, when I woke up this morning and opened my MBP, the battery went down to 13%.
When I put the laptop to sleep, I had a pdf file open along with itunes (paused). I have never used Mac OS, so maybe I not doing something correct. Also, I noticed when I open the lid (after I put the notebook to sleep) it just goes directly back to the desktop as opposed to on windows it prompts to the login screen when waking it up from sleep mode.
I want to use my laptop mostly in a docking station with the screen closed, but that makes the power button inaccessible. Is it possible to boot the system on usb or power event? I see no option for it in the bios.
My dell laptop wont boot. When i hit the power button, i can hear the fan whirr, and some of the lights come on, but nothing happens on the screen ( not even the back light) and after about 40 seconds, it beeps twice, then nothing else happens. i tried plugging it into another monitor, but still nothing showed up on screen. i removed the hard drive and tried, but got the same result. it wasn't dropped or anything... it simply didint work one day. Its not my pain pc, so its not a big deal, but for the time being i have no mobile computer.
Ive done some googling and have tried swapping out each ram stick, and removing AC and battery power and holding down the power button to empty the capacitors. Ive tried to hold f2, f8, f12, and delete upon boot, none of these are having an effect. another thing worth noting is upon turning it off, i hear a high pitches ring coming from the inside that makes short pauses intermittently. it only does this when the AC is plugged in.
Now that the new Sony Z is out, I think it would meaningful to get a sense of the boot time for this system under various scenarios.
If people could post the boot times of their Z with this information:
- Whether you're calculating the boot with all the bloatware untouched (factory settings), with the $50 Sony Fresh Start (which still has a couple unnecessary programs), a Clean Install, or a Manual Uninstall of all programs.
- And the size of your SSD or HDD. If it is an SSD, it would be nice to know if you can tell us have many SSDs are in the RAID 0 configuration as that affects the speed.
I think this would be very helpful not just for direct comparison, but as another factor to consider in whether to do a clean install, which takes more tech-savvy than some may have.
My Y580 should be arriving shortly. I got it on the Black Friday Special and it comes with Windows 8. I bought a SSD to replace the HDD and I am wanting to downgrade it to a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate or Pro and I have a couple questions:
How to do this for the Y580? I have not been able to locate one.
Also I am assuming I would not want to use the Windows 8 device drivers correct? Do I use the Windows 7 device drivers?
Would use the drivers from the Lenovo site or each devices specific website? I am going to try to save them on a DVD in advance and want to be prepared.
Helix does not sleep after closing lid, even though I set to let it sleep in power plan in windows. I previously do not have this problem. Not notice anything changed.
So I broke my laptop (xps l502x) while traveling. The hinges were broken so I couldn't open or close the lid. Dell has stopped supporting this model so I had to get my own parts and replace it.
After replacing, I realized that the screen turns on but is white and the motherboard beeps 8 times continually. I realized that was an issue with the lcd connector. I tried to fix the connection. Now the laptop turned on, booted. But I couldn't see anything on the screen. The screen was lit but displayed nothing, everything was black. Then I removed the lcd connector and put it back again. This time the laptop doesn't even turn on but fan turns on with a loud spinning sound and emits cold air continuously.
Here are my problems as most of you are already familar with....
Mouse freezes when system is woken up from sleep mode.
Speaker crackles and I am unable to update driver. Tried several times.
How do i make sure all my drivers are up to date? Do i have to check each one manually?
Here are the steps I have taken to try and fix these problems....
20 hours on the phone with hp tech support. (i speak fluent indian now) tried to download speaker driver - unable tried to install updated mouse driver - unable installed updated Bios - caused the dm3 to go into blue screen 3 times re-installed windows 7 - problems still exsist...............
My new DV7t Quad should be coming on Friday. Right now it is stuck in China, but I was wondering. Would it be better to keep the Windows 7 that they have install on the computer, or should I do a clean install? Right now, I have Windows 7 Ultimate running my old laptop, however, I only the disk for the 32 bit. While my Quad will be a 64 bit.
So if it would be a benefit to do a clean install, could someone explain how to do it without having a new windows 7 disk. I did order the system restore disks from HP when I bought the computer.
