stuck in a Memory Stick PRO Duo (without the adapter) in my Acer Aspire One notebook, but was able to get it out with tape. Perhaps this will help other people in the same situation.
Apparently you have to make 15 posts to submit a thread, but I'm a preschool teacher with limited technology skills, so it you go to w w w dot LloydandLauren dot com and look at the November 21st post, you can see how I got it out.
Anyone use Sony's Memory Stick Pro in the card reader? Seems too small, I assume I need an adapter of some sort? Just hoping someone can confirm with a pic.

I'm thinking now that I'm back with XP, I'm missing a driver or something. I'm not sure which driver I'm supposed to use though...

Whenever I put a Sony Memory Stick into the built in reader in my M6400, it asks if I want to format it. The same memory stick opens fine in my Dell M90. I've already updated the Ricoh Chipset drivers for the reader.

Formatting the memory stick, no matter what I do it comes up 3.45GB. I tried a second one with the same result.
Is this a problem with the laptop? With the driver? Or is it yet another case of "live with it"?

I recently installed windows 7 64-bit and for some reason the windows installation didn't install any driver for the memory stick card reader (and didn't even give a notice or something about that).
I tried to manually install a driver and all I could find is the driver R168331.exe. It installed properly but now it can't read all my memory sticks and it only give me a massage that I need to format the stick (even if its an old one that I used recently).
Even if I'm trying to format the stick a massage come up and say that it can't format the stick because it can't read it right.
My HP Pavillion 15 sleekbook has a digital media port on the side that does not read my Sony 64mb memory stick, although it fits fine. After being put on hold for an inexcusible amount of time the tech, that I could hardly understand said it wouldn't work. Why not, and if not what will?

So, I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried using different size RAM together? I know it's not advisable to do that due to possible instability in performance. But I would like to get some opinion from experienced user.

in the BIOS, showing the system is installed with 4GB of Memory, but when come into the windows, it show 4GB installed (2.90GB Usable) .....
In certain light it's just freakin' invisible, so I have to constantly move around to find an angle that I can actually see the screen at.

A friend just showed me his new Dell Vostro lappy. He has 4 GB of DDR2 800mhz memory on it when compared to my 4 GB of DDR2 667mhz memory on my XPS 1530
However, under his windows experience score - he gets 5.9 score for memory operations while I just get a 5.1. I can't believe that a couple of hundred mhz can result in such a drastic difference.
Is there something optimized for his system but not for mine?
I just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!). It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb.
I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory. All set right?

In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2" However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2" Opps! There is no "3" and there is no "4" In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?

I received my E6400. In short, I like it. It came with 1gb of Ram. So I ordered 4gb of Crucial (2x2gb) ddr2 6400 to put in it.
Well. It's only recognizing one stick of it. The Ram itself is not bad. I've verified this by placing each stick in individually and I get no errors. Would there be any reason the computer would not be recognizing that second stick that isn't hardware?
The bios says the second slot is empty. Which either means that for some reason the software isn't recognizing the ram or the second slot itself is bad?

View 10 Replies View RelatedMy XPS 17 screen sometimes goes black like the display is turning off when using USB sticks, SD Memory cards or even an external Mouse. If you move the mouse it will resume but if you pull out the USB drive again it will go black causing you to have to move the mouse again. Even using programs that use the User Account Controls will cause it to go black (unlike how User Account dims the screen) causing you to have to move the mouse to bring the screen back.
The only way to stop it from going black is rebooting, until it decides to do it again. However even if you aren't using a USB anymore after it started going black, it will go black at random even when using the internet causing you to have to reboot. It will only do this if the USB or user Account has triggered it going black first.
Sometimes this doesn't happen for a week or two and sometimes it happens a few times a week. Dell has replaced my motherboard and my Graphics card with brand new ones. It seemed to have fixed it until it did it today (week later)
I don't believe it is software related as I have all the latest bio updates, driver updates and windows updates.
I tried something I've never tried before. While it was going black using USB drives I tried pulling the battery charger cable out from the back. When I did that, it completely stopped going dim without a reboot. I've never tried this before and no matter what I tried before doing this the screen would always go black.
Could it be my Power Cable that charges the laptop? or could it be my display? It seems it's related to the charger because me unplugging it seems to have fixed what ever was messed up until it occurs again at random.
I'm hunting for some elusive pointstick covers for several D-series latitudes. Specifically, the broad,
flat caps that have about two dozen tiny rubber bumps on them. NOT the narrower, domed, classic "cat tongue" caps.

I want to be able to scroll with my pointing stick using the pointing stick middle button, but no matter what I set it at with the synaptics software it will only perform the action which the touchpad middle button is set at.
Am I missing some check box I need to uncheck, or something else that I am not seeing. I already tried updating the driver and uninstalling it and reinstalling it, and I tried it with the touchpad disabled, but nothing has worked.
I have a Blackbook 2.4, with 2gb of ram. Right now I don't have the stock ram, my friend took it when he sold it to me, there's some random mis-matched slow 2x1GB sticks of stuff in there, I can buy a 4GB stick (800MHz) off of another buddy soon for 100 kuai ($14), I was wondering, I know OSX will only take 4GB or whatever, and that the book wont support more than 4GB, but will ONE slot support, and fully utilize the 4GB stick?
I only need this computer for another month before I buy a new MBP, so I don't want to spend any actual money on Ram, I'm doing semi-ok with 2gb.
I have got a problem with my T430. I'm not able to boot from usb stick. I checked BIOS settings like 1000 times. Approx. 8mo ago I installed an Ubuntu form usb stick, and everything went well. But now, I guess after BIOS update (2.54 or 2.56) it doesn't work any longer. Today I saw on support webpage information about BIOS version 2.57. It has even written that it solves my problem: "Fix an issue where the system fail to boot from USB device by configuration.".

I have adjusted my screen brightness/color/contrast via the NVidia Control Panel, but I periodically lose my settings. Initially there was a conflict with the VAIO Control Center - display settings there superseded whatever I did in the NVidia Control Panel. I eventually figured out how to get the NVidia Control Panel settings to stick by changing the display settings in the VAIO Control Center first - or at least I thought I did. It would work for a few reboots, but eventually I seemed to lose my settings again. So I uninstalled the VAIO Control Center hoping that would leave my NVidia Control Panel settings alone. But lo & behold I still periodically lose those settings (the NVidia Control Panel radio button "Other applications control color settings" is inexplicably selected.) Any ideas? (And yes, I hit "Apply" before closing out the NVidia Control Panel.)

My desire is to have a number pad, nearly equivalent keyboard, faster graphics (its newer, it should be better), and hopefully, the point-stick doesn't drift like my Lenovo does. I don't do CAD, only light video encoding, and I fully intend to play Diablo-iii if it ever comes out.
I have recently bought a Flex 2 15 and want to instal Win 7. I created a bootable Win 7 usb stick with the tool from Microsoft and it works just fine. The problem is, no matter what I change in Bios or Boot manager, The laptop doesn't boot from usb. All I get is the normal Win 8.1 installation.

Bough with touch screen mostly because of possible Win 9 upgrade in future. I've already ordered Win 7 recovery DVD set, but t440s doesn't have DVD So I would need to make a USB stick from recovery disks. How to do that?
Some additional inputs to make story more complex. Before installing Win 7 I would replace existing 500Gb HDD with Samsung 840Evo 500Gb SSD and increase memory to maximum 12Gb (bought with only 4Gb).
