i have a acer aspire 8920g that i got 3 months ago and i have vista 64bit installed in it.i want to change it to xp or even vista 32 because i do not like vista 64 but i think drivers will be an issue since this thing has a driver installed for everything.is there going to be a problem with the drivers?and if so can i find all the main drivers somewhere for it?

I have ordered an Acer Gemstone Blue 6920g which is due to be delivered next week sometime.
I was wondering if anyone else already owns one of the gemstone blue laptops and has tried a laptop bag or case out for it.
The gemstone blue laptops come in a 16 inch and 18.4 inch screen size and have an aspect ratio of 16:9 instead of 16:10.

This thread is specifically designed to put an end to the multitude of threads about people asking why their Aspire 6920G, 6930G, 6935G, 8920G, or 8930G is experiencing lackluster performance in gaming.
What Causes It
We’re not 100% certain, but through a process of elimination, we believe there are two possible causes:
•That a sensor on the motherboard is going haywire, reading internal temperatures entirely wrong. As a result, the system’s BIOS believes the CPU’s temperature is reaching dangerous levels when it’s really well within operating limits, and causes a thermal throttle to be activated. This halves the CPU’s performance until the temperatures are returned to what the system perceives as safe levels.
•It could also be potentially linked to a ridiculously low setting in the BIOS and not the fault of a motherboard sensor – this was refuted by my travel to Acer’s Canadian headquarters, where a stock 6920G was shown to operate just fine, with no throttling whatsoever. That being said, given the large number of users affected, it's still a possibility.....................
Well I just Bought the last saturday an acer gemstone blue 6920. The model with the intel gma x3100 and it came with Windows Vista Premium. The first thing that i did was to install the newest drivers of vga..i downloaded them from the intel website but the results were ugly..
I decided to downgrade the OS to Windows XP Pro...And I did it i have to put my HD on IDE MODE from the bios and install without a problem..
I downloaed the xp drivers...
After this i played fifa 09 but in two time the game crashes and when i closed the game with ALT+F4 i saw the next message:
THE SCREEN DRIVER IGXPRD2 STOP WORKING etc etc and the screen went like if I doesnt have any driver so i have to restart
Searching via google I found that there is an old driver(6.14.10.4859) that makes the performance on gaming a little better...well i found the driver and installed.
The results? Yeah it was true the fps in games were a little better but when it seems to be all normal THEN THE GAME CRASHES AND BSOD!
Yeah Blue screen of death so i have to restart...only have been happenned two times and the gameplay is much better than with the latest drivers but i need to do something with that BSOD...It doesn't appear much but its a problem.....
Are the new models by Acer, the 8935G and the 5935G, based on the Gemstone Blue design?
Because both look very different from the 6935G, 8930G etc.
Is that a new design and Acer hasn't announced it yet?
There's all little bits of white dust in the speaker panel and it won't come out if I try to vacuum it.

It randomly turns off/has a blue screen, then I can't use it for 6-10 hours before it works again, but then only for 30 min then repeats. I've checked the temperatures for the HDD/CPU/GPU on the time I was on, and the HDD was 58C, CPU and GPU were around 50C (With FF3.5, iTunes, MSN and Vuze running). I've taken off the back panel and removed the dust but that didn't do anything at all. This morning I turned it on after leaving it upside down (back panel on) to vent all the air (if I left it open more dust would've gone in) and it wouldn't even hit the desktop. Kept crashing when it hits the desktop (that's basically what happens when I try and turn it on after it has a blue screen or turns off). So I opened the back panel and let my hand hover over the components - no heat what so evr radiated from it, which means it can't have overheated...right? Now I can only run it with the back panel off, which I'm doing now in a well ventilated area.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFrom what i see from the Acer Aspire Gemstone official page. It would seem like all models in that series has 1020p display regardless of screen size from the specifications page.
However, I have two laptops in question right now.
First is my friend's 6935G which is featured in the official page and is said to have a Full HD display on its 16" screen. However, the maximum resolution available on my the laptop is only 1366x768. Furthermore, there is a sticker on the laptop indicating "Full 1020p HD display" and no, I did not get confused with it over the "Full 1020p HD Playback"
Secondly, is my own personal 6930Z which is essentially almost the same except the lack of the 9600GT, biometric fingerprint reader and blu-ray player found in the 6935G thus its low price. As seen from the website, the WHOLE series is supposed to have 1020p resolution display which mine is part of. However, my max display resolution capable is also the same as the 6935G although mine doesn't have the sticker that the 6935G has. I'm not complaining due to mine being a budget model but shouldn't the 6935G have the touted 1020p display?
Ive got a an Acer Aspire 8920g and ive just bought a new Seagate momentus 500gb HDD for it.
Is there a way to transfer my windows and all my files and programs etc to the new hdd without having to do a fresh install on the new hdd and installing all my programs etc one by one.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 8920G Win 7 Pro which is randomly shutting down only in when connected to 'AC' power. It does not happen when using 'battery' alone or in 'safe mode'. I've tried,investigated, and corrected all overheating issues, cleaned fans, changed AC power supplies, disabled graphics card, to no avail. All drivers are up to date. This has been happening over a period of 3 months now. Can not use the laptop except when battery is charged or in safe mode.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium preinstalled (with no installation nor recovery disks delivered).
I accidently hit the arcade button on the cinedash panel, instead of the power button. The computer started directly up into arcade deluxe, after a short install. Nice feature
I thought, and choose to exit arcade through the exit feature. Then I noticed that the computer prepared to hibernate, but instead it shut off after it finished.
After turning the computer on, a small complaint about improper closing the computer popped up, and I choose to start windows normally. Now the boot loader ran, and when I expected the logon screen, instead I met a black screen with a working mouse cursor. I eventually had to force power down, since crtl alt delete didn't work.
Since then, all boot options, safe mode etc leads to the same black screen.
Vista looks like it's going to boot normally then goes to a black screen with a working mouse pointer. The hard disk light just pulses every couple seconds.
I tried extracting the battery but it doesn't work.
I tried to alt+f10 - Vista Recovery page, so it gives me menu called "Edit Boot Options". There is the path to winload.exe and this:
"Partition: 2
Hard Disk: b8f0ffa4
[ /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN
]"
That's all what I have when I press ALT + F10.
I could type "Enter" = nothing happened
"Esc" = shutdown the system
"F8" = go to recovery page.
Hit f8:
Goes to a "Vista system recovery" or something like that, i'm not quite sure what its name was. Anyway it had about 6 options, including "Get windows to check for and correct the faults on your disk" in a little bit more high tech talk. And "Restore to a earlier point". Since the "Checking and correct faults" said it was recommended, i thought i'd go for that.
It ran its tool, told me to click the restart button. Runs it again, tells me to restart again.
And now it enters its final state - Its virtually dead :|. If i turn it on, it will go to the black screen, that talks about an improper shutdown, with the options for Safe Mode, Safe mode with networking.. etc. Any of these 4 options all result in the same black screen displaying only the mouse cursor.
I was not trying to install or upgrade nothing, was not trying to change form vista to xp or so.
I have not deleted any hidden partition (as far as I know...)
I Have The Acer Aspire 8920G that i Want do to downgread to XP.
And have been search google for hours trying to find the XP driver.
ATI RADEON HD3650 512mb XP drivers.
I called acer and ATI no result.

my laptop has just died. I purchased the product just under 1 year ago and it came with a 1 year warranty.
I have an ACER 4920g 2Ghz (T7300), 2Gb RAM, 256Mb Graphics, Vista Home Premium.
Fortunately I store very little on the laptop so this is not a data retrieval exercise!
I was sat surfing the net tonight, and pop!, the whole unit went dead. I was running it from the mains at the time and there were no performance symptoms that suggested it might be on its way out.
The battery pack has a green light on it which flashes when it is connected to the laptop now, but is solid when I unplug it from the laptop. the light used to be solid all the time. Is this flashing an error code?
When the power pack is plugged into the laptop, the blue power light on the laptop does not light up. pressing the power button does nothing, the fans do not kick into action, absolutely nothing.
The laptop has no signs of life whatsoever - at the time it went pop, it just powered down within 1 second, like a power failure. it did have a charge in it.
The fact that it had charge in it and it was connected to the mains is making me think there has been some kind of internal failure - a processor failing? or motherbaord failing? or the connection between the motherboard and the power button?
I am quite tempted to buy the AS8920-6048. This model is available in the USA now and comes with 802.11a/b/g wlan. Due to my need to stream HDTV I'd like to have 802.11n. The AS8920-6671 comes with it and is almost double the price. So the question is can I get the AS8920-6048, replace the a/b/g mini-pcie card by the 4695AGN and be done with it? The latter has 3 antenna leads, while the former only 2 antenna leads. It boils down to whether acer uses the same anteannae setups for all the 8920s and just varies the card, or do they actually put in extra antenna in the as8920-6671?

View 1 Replies View Relatediv had this problem for a few weeks now and nothing seems to be working. Everytime I play a game I get a bluescreen about display drivers and windows Problem Reports and Solutions says its a problem with ATI Graphics Drivers aswell.
I have tried various different ATI drivers and the driverhearn mod application but all them having failed I even run Acer eReovery and restored back to factory setting and STILL have the same problem but with a new error message, popping up occasionally while just genrally using the laptop, saying that the drivers stopped responding but managed to recover... something along those lines.

I just got an Aspire 5536 and I'm running some diagnostics on it. While running SpinRite to test the drive I'm seeing HDD temps as high as 58°C!
This is a WDC 320 GB Scorpio Blue drive rated with a maximum operating temperature of 60°C and it's in a brand new machine sitting on the desk (so the vents are clear).
Isn't this ridiculously warm for this laptop? Does anyone else have the laptop (or the WDC 320 HDD) that can give me some comparison numbers?
i have a brand new aspire 5920 notebook. The round power button LED always used to glow Blue. A week back, the power button started glowing Amber. It stays amber irrespective of whether it's running on AC or battery power. The power indicator at the bottom right stays on even after i shutdown the notebook thus draining out the battery.

what Im trying to get is get the front speakers working while my headphone plugged on the rear jack is acting like my rear. this setup is possible on the old cmedia sound cards. how I will make this work on a realtek soundcards?
I have a problem with the video being all messed up in my Acer laptop. I made a short video which shows the problem - basically it's a persistent blue colored lines flickering everywhere where the background is supposed to be white and stable. Needles to say it renders my laptop almost unusable.Â

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have had this problem a few times now since I have had it. This laptop is rarely used, so not sure what could be the problem. This last time, I had inadvertently removed the power block from the wall to plug something else in.
Since then it will not power up at all. The blue light comes on but nothing else. I don't hear the drive spinning or anything and screen just stays black. I held power button down for 60 seconds and finally saw normal booting screen and then went back to black screen.
Just bought this laptop. When I press the power button, the blue light comes on but not the screen. I'm able to charge my phone but that's it. I have to turn the laptop on and off several times before the screen comes on.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI require some help on repairing a bad bios flash for this laptop. The problem started after clearing the bios from with in windows and then using acer esettings to create another password which would save the bios but it seems it did not save properly and resulted in a bad flash.
The laptop no longer boots up, it just hangs with a black screen.
I have downloaded the updated bios file from acer web page and used various methods for other acer models which use a usb floppy with the crisis recovey disk and rename 114.rom bios file to bios.wph but cant seem to trigger the laptop into booting from the floppy using win+b/esc and fn+b/esc.
I have also tried putting the bios file onto a cd with various different file names but again it doesnt want to boot from cd either.
